Fitness Formula Clubs Supports Philanthropist Iris Klein’s Bike4TheCure

People deal with grief in a variety of ways. Some take time to cope, some surround themselves with friends and family, and some take it upon themselves to educate others about the source of their grief. In Iris Klein’s world, a 35 year old German Fitness Professional, the latter was the case. After Klein’s friend lost her battle with breast cancer in 2009, Klein decided she wanted to do something to raise awareness and funds for this disease. Realizing Breast Cancer Awareness month is in October each year throughout the United States, Klein decided that in the fall of 2010 she would set off on a two month, 2,000+ mile bicycle ride along historic Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles.
Iris chose Route 66 because she says, “It is a route that represents people’s dreams and hopes and therefore makes the perfect setting for this project. Plus – my friend had lived near it in Illinois, so, that’s what I wanted to do”. Iris then named her upcoming journey Bike4The Cure.
Iris’s tour will kick off September 13 in Chicago and end October 26 in Los Angeles. She has received support from several sponsors and health clubs along the way to assist her in fund-raising during her trip. Two Fitness Formula Club (FFC or ffc. com,) locations will be holding Bike4TheCure fundraisers, and will be supporting Iris with two Group Exercise classes on September 8 and September 9 that she will teach prior to kicking off her journey.
Iris’s class at FFC Union Station will take place on Wednesday, September 8 at 444 W. Jackson Blvd. Chicago, IL from 5:45pm-7:00pm. Her second class will be Thursday, September 9 at Fitness Formula Clubs Lincoln Park from 6:30pm-7:45pm at 939 W. North Avenue. Chicago, IL. FFC and Iris are asking for a suggested donation of $25 to participate in each of her classes. The classes will be comprised of a little bit of everything – barbell work, martial arts, Latin dance moves, and then end with calming stretches.
For more information about any of the above classes, please contact Group Exercise Manager Dominick DeFranco at ddefranco(at)ffc(dot)com. Iris’s fund-raising efforts will be featured in Outdoor Magazine September, 2010 in a special issue geared towards women completing fitness-related projects.
