Georgetown Art Gallery Reopens Doors for a Special Cause

Georgetown Art Gallery Reopens Doors for a Special Cause

Fine Art & Artists Gallery to wrap up two-month benefit for Duke Ellington School of the Arts with March 24 Grand Reopening celebration.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 5, 2007

Ever think about expanding your investment portfolio to include a work of art? According to Fine Art & Artists Gallery and the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, the time couldn't be better. The two organizations recently launched a fundraising campaign to give new meaning to an art purchase at the Georgetown gallery. Between now and March 24th, a percentage of every sale will be donated directly to the Duke Ellington Fund, which goes to support programs at the DC public school.

The 'Fine Art for Education' campaign will officially wrap up with a special Art Open House and Grand Reopening--free and open to the public--on Saturday, March 24, at 7:00pm to celebrate the success of the campaign, and feature the latest works of their artists--including Steve Penley, Ray Charles White and Emily Christenson. Interested parties must RSVP by March 20th to 202-965-0780.

"We take great pride in supporting our community, and after having spent the past year and a half refurbishing our gallery, we are thrilled to reintroduce ourselves to the Greater DC community, while supporting a cause very close to our hearts," noted gallery proprietor, Brian Benavides.

On the evening of the Gallery's Grand Reopening, members of the Duke Ellington School community, neighbors and friends will come together to celebrate the success of this very special campaign. The evening will include live musical entertainment by Ellington students, discussions and signings by a number of featured artists, a silent auction featuring a portrait of Duke Ellington--commissioned specifically for this campaign, and painted by renowned artist Steve Penley--and a last chance to donate towards the campaign with an art purchase of your own.

The Grand Reopening event will also feature a variety of artists currently on exhibit at the Gallery, including Ray Charles White, Emily Christenson and Bernard Cohen.

As part of the DC public school system, the Duke Ellington School of the Arts was designed to nurture and inspire a passion for arts and learning in talented students who might not otherwise have an opportunity to develop their artistic skills. The school ensures that their students are prepared for post-secondary education and/or careers in the arts by offering an intensive arts-based program and a strong focus on community service.

Fine Art & Artists opened its doors in 1990 and quickly built an international reputation as one of the preeminent Pop and Contemporary art galleries in Washington D. C. Benavides joined the Gallery in 2003, after an already accomplished career working for some of the most established galleries in the metropolitan area, and in 2004, purchased Fine Art & Artists Gallery. Benavides, along with Gallery Director Malvika Paddock, has designed an inviting and innovative art space reflecting his expertise, experience and passion for the arts.

Located in the "bright yellow building" on M Street, Fine Art & Artists features three floors of paintings, photography and sculpture by artists such as Susanna Bluhm, Emily Christenson and Steve Penley, as well as works by some of the premier Pop and Contemporary artists including Roy Lichtenstein, Alexander Calder and Claus Oldenburg. Now, two years after purchasing the gallery, Fine Art & Artists is ready to take its new place in Washington's art scene.

Fine Art & Artists is located at 2920 M Street, NW Washington, DC. For more information on the Gallery, please call 202.965.0780, or visit www. faagallery. com.

Pass The N. E.T.™, Nursing Entrance Test Tutorials & Guides Available on MyNursingEdu. com

Pass The N. E.T.™, Nursing Entrance Test Tutorials & Guides Available on MyNursingEdu. com

Pre-nursing students going for the RN or LPN/LDN degree now have a reliable set of tutorials and guides that streamline the learning process and helps students Pass The N. E.T. - The First Time they take it, in both electronic and printed form by the renowned authority in the field, Dr. Nancy Kimmel.

Dearborn Heights, MI (PRWEB) June 26, 2009

Entrance to nursing programs is contingent upon the student's success on the pre-required exam, the Nursing Entrance Test (N. E.T), also known as the H. E.S. I, the T. E.A. S and the A. T.T, respectively.  All colleges and institutions offering RN or LPN/LDN programs require students to sit for the said exams, allowing students to sit for the said exam a maximum of three times.  This illustrates the need for an encompassing study guide to meet the student's needs, providing a complete spectrum of material that the student can utilize to feel confident, no matter which said exam the student is sitting for.

At over 430+ pages of material, including free online tutorials, Dr. Kimmel's (http://mynursingedu. com (http://mynursingedu. com)) Nursing Entrance Test study guide - Pass The N. E.T™ may be the best choice among students sitting for the N. E.T and said variants across the United States and Canada. The book and other pre-nursing and nursing educational materials like the Pass the NET - Reading Comprehension or Pass The NET - Math are available for purchase at http://www. MyNursingEdu. com (http://www. MyNursingEdu. com). For a limited time all purchases from her site are accompanied by a free copy of the Kimmel Guide, soon to be also available for purchase thru online retailers like Amazon.

The educational level at which pre-nursing students would use Pass The N. E.T ™ would be at the freshman-sophomore level, as completion of nursing school would ideally take place at the sophomore year.  Intended readers/students will primarily be allied health majors, but will also include non-majors who are returning to college to pursue an allied health degree.

Trends and changes in course/material content are virtually static, as the N. E.T. is comprised of high school-college level arithmetic and reading comprehension.  The H. E.S. I, the T. E.A. S and A. T.T are more encompassing, covering biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology as well as the standard high school-college level arithmetic and reading comprehension.

Pass The N. E.T ™ has been developed specifically for this wide range of material by Dr. Kimmel, a registered nurse and PhD with over 20+ years of teaching experience. This includes first-hand knowledge of the testing material, as Dr. Kimmel has also helped to develop such pre-tests for colleges and universities, lending a highly valuable insight into the structure and content students will face on the N. E.T.

Allied health enrollment changes can vary, but as new students are constantly entering into the health profession, with the current state of the economy sending many four-year graduates back to school, the outlook for such a market is expected to grow by 25% over the next ten years.

"Our vision is to be there to help each new batch of students to Pass the Nursing Entrance Test, the first time. We at Pass The N. E.T ™ believe the need for students to have an encompassing study guide.  We care about each student, and offer a multitude of 100% free online tutorials in addition to individualized personal support for students.  Not only do students receive a complete study guide, they also have their own tutor to guide them through any difficulties they may have. Free. We at (http://mynursingedu. com (http://mynursingedu. com)) Pass The N. E.T.™ are dedicated to helping students pass the pre-required exams for entrance into nursing school. But we don't stop there. We are continually growing to meet students ever changing needs in the scholastic community, and we stay on board with students helping them to understand the challenges they'll face in nursing school, after successfully passing the exam. In the event that the student does not pass, we welcome every single opportunity to help them locate weaknesses and evaluate areas that require more work." - Dr. Nancy Kimmel

The N. E.T. Study Guide LLC began with Dr. Nancy Kimmel tutoring student's to pass the nursing entrance test in 2005 at her local community college where she was a teacher of physics and engineering. After determining that her student's needed more math and reading comprehension than what she could give in a two or three hour session, Dr. Kimmel set out to write a computerized tutorial so student's could learn in the privacy of their own home and take as much time as they needed. Dr. Kimmel took over a year and a half to put the software together, all inclusive of her math teaching experience and knowledge of the nursing entrance test. Once finished, Dr. Kimmel had a product that was able to launch student's scores on the NET to over an 85% pass rate.

Dr. Nancy Kimmel then began to pursue writing the book Pass the N. E.T.™, available now on http://mynursingedu. com (http://mynursingedu. com), all the time maintaining the same level of integrity as a personal tutor, knowing many of her clients by first name. "This dedication as educators is the foundation which we at The N. E.T Study Guide LLC pride ourselves in keeping." - Dr. Nancy Kimmel

Educational Misandry Under Attack

Educational Misandry Under Attack

Groups protest biased education system

(PRWEB) January 12, 2005

“Did you report it?”

“Yes”

“Did you post it to the site?”

The above conversation is taking place right now, all over America. ItÂ’s a dialogue little Johnny might be engaged in to classmate Bobby or even his sister Jessica. Teachers beware: itÂ’s a conversation that could harm your career.

All over the Internet, sites discussing a prevalent phenomenon in academia have appeared. The culprit? Misandry, which when defined is simply the antonym of the word misogyny.

James Tater a concerned father claims educational misandry has had a personal effect on the schooling of his fifth-grader. He is one of four fathers who have filed lawsuits (Tater vs. State of California School Board) in various jurisdictions across America against school boards and staff on behalf of the children affected. Seeking punitive damages and educational reforms with regards to hostile anti-male environments, he claims the lawsuits are a “trend” that seems to be growing very quickly.

“When I first started this lawsuit, I thought I was the only concerned parent out there. In my dealings with the courts, I found tremendous support on the Internet for parents concerned that their children are constantly being exposed to negative messages about men and masculinity.”

In his case, there was a picture of a girl kicking a boy in the groin area on the wall inside his fifth-graderÂ’s classroom.

“I felt the picture was clearly inappropriate, and constituted what I felt was a negative learning environment for my child.”

It appears James is not alone. Even tech-savy children are now more prone to discuss their teachers and classrooms online.

“my techer said men starts all the war becuz they are naturly vilent” one 12 year old writes. Another student comments that he “wants to be more like a girl” because the teachers favor them.

Internet activists are also taking advantage of this. Men’s organizations are donating their time and legal assistance to help parents who feel their children are being discriminated against due to the ‘culture of misandry” in education. Secondary schools and even Universities are being monitored, and one group has even offered students cash incentives to report anti-male speech or polemics by administrators and faculty. A spokeswoman from one such group, Manpower, commented that they were currently offering one thousand dollars for genuine examples of anti-male discrimination. There is talk of class-action litigation.

Robert Wilson, a teacher in southern Arizona says he understands the concern, but generally condemns the methods.

“You don’t achieve educational reforms through litigation.”

His concern is shared by the ACLU, who claim that such tactics are being used to silence intellectual diversity. However, it appears to James Tater that there is no diversity in violence.

“This case is a clear example of violent expression against an identifiable group being excused under the rubric of “intellectual diversity”. What is diverse about proudly displaying a picture of sexual violence to impressionable children in an academic environment?”

In his case, he is hoping it will become too expensive for the education system to continue to condone this type of anti-male hostility.

The Office of Dr. Dennis Gage, M. D. Will Go Red For Women to Benefit Women's Hearts

The Office of Dr. Dennis Gage, M. D. Will Go Red For Women to Benefit Women's Hearts

Dr. Dennis Gage and his employees are joining companies to support Wear Red Day to increase awareness of heart disease.

New York, NY (PRWEB) January 19, 2005

Employees at the office of Dr. Dennis Gage, M. D. are joining companies across the nation and wearing something red with jeans on Friday, February 4, 2005 to support the American Heart AssociationsÂ’ Wear Red Day event and increase awareness of heart disease, the No. 1 killer of women.

On Wear Red Day employees donate $5.00 to the American Heart Association so they can wear red and jeans on a designated day. Money raised will benefit research and education to help reduce the incidence of heart disease in women.

Wear Red Day is a component of Go Red For Women, the American Heart AssociationÂ’s national campaign to raise awareness of heart disease in women and encourage women to take charge of their health.

Dr. Dennis Gage, M. D., F. A.C. P. Endocrinologist, Obesity Expert, Member of the North American Association for the Study of Obesity, and Author of The Thinderella Syndrome: A Practical Guide to Individualized Permanent Weight Loss (Vantage Press, 2004) says people who are overweight or obese are at high risk for heart disease. If we treat people preventively through Lifestyle Change, they can reverse their risk for cardiovascular disease. People must be educated to ask for thorough metabolic testing such as advanced lipid testing while they are still healthy. “Wear Red Day is an opportunity for everyone to remember their female friends and family members who have suffered from the disease. It’s also a time to think about their own hearts and take charge of their own health.”

Alice K. Jacobs, M. D., FAHA, President, American Heart Association said, “The Office of Dr. Dennis Gage, M. D. and companies across the nation are really putting their passion into action by participating in the Wear Red Day campaign. Their generosity is helping to heighten awareness and bring about positive change to defeat this major health threat.”

“We are committed to supporting organizations and programs that interest our employees. Since heart disease affects so many of our employees’ personal lives, Wear Red Day is a perfect fit,” said Dr. Dennis Gage, M. D. “The American Heart Association makes the event easy by providing everything we need in a tool kit. We just pick the date, collect the funds, and forward the proceeds to the association.”

For information on conducting a Wear Red Day campaign, contact your nearest American Heart Association office or call 1-888-MY-Heart.

The Deaf Bilingual Coalition responds to HEAR Indiana and "Doing Deaf Differently"

The Deaf Bilingual Coalition responds to HEAR Indiana and "Doing Deaf Differently"

In response to a recent press release put out by HEAR Indiana, the Deaf Bilingual Coalition expresses its dismay in regard to the wording of the headline which shows great disrespect to the Deaf Community by using the phrase: "Doing Deaf Differently." The Deaf Bilingual Coalition, Indiana Chapter, will hold an informational rally in support of American Sign Language and ASL-English bilingualism on Friday, November 14, 2008, from 8:00 a. m. to 4:30 p. m., outside the Garrison Hotel and Conference Center located at 6002 N. Post Road, Indianapolis, IN 46216, which is located in Fort Harrison State Park.

Fort Myers, FL (PRWEB) November 10, 2008

In response to a recent press release put out by HEAR Indiana--a chapter of the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf, which is hosting an education conference in Indianapolis, Indiana--the Deaf Bilingual Coalition (http://dbcusa. org) expresses its dismay in regard to the wording of the headline which shows great disrespect to the Deaf Community by using the phrase: "Doing Deaf Differently." The Deaf Bilingual Coalition is a national grassroots organization supporting Deaf babies' rights to accessible language through American Sign Language.

The theme of the conference is "Building Partnerships," and a list of medical organizations and companies involved as sponsors of the event is included in the press release. The list of presenters includes one oral deaf presenter, but excludes Deaf organizations, well-known research specialists who are themselves Deaf, and also excludes Deaf bilingual-bicultural educators, and Deaf professionals.

While the organizers of the conference boast that they are "Building Partnerships," they are excluding creating partnerships with the very people who are most greatly impacted by what they propose to parents. Were their calls for abstracts, keynote speaker presentations, or applications for exhibits sent to Deaf educators, Deaf researchers, ASL users and Deaf organizations? If so, were any of them accepted? Which specific "partnerships" is HEAR Indiana building? When will Deaf adults--the people who are children of hearing parents, many of whom were raised orally but were later able to find ASL and who also fell in love with their language--be invited to be a part of this type of conference?

Even more important, when will parents get full and accurate information regarding the cognitive, linguistic, social and emotional importance of their child's access to American Sign Language and their child's right to a natural sign language as a primary language regardless of whatever hearing devices their parents might select for their Deaf child? The use of ASL does not hinder Deaf children's ability to acquire spoken language skills, and it actually INCREASES their general language skills by allowing them to be bilingual in TWO languages, ASL and English (written or spoken).

"Doing Deaf Differently" is a clear statement of disrespect toward the Deaf community. It is a false concept that is created by and implemented by mostly hearing people, without any input from the bilingual Deaf community (those who are fluent in ASL and English--written and/or spoken). The "Building Partnerships" concept, as stated in the HEAR Indiana press release, is very misleading and does not reflect on or include input and participation from Deaf individuals who live the Deaf experience every day.

Over the past 128 years, proponents of the philosophy of Oralism have unfairly and unethically cornered the market in Deaf education and related services for Deaf children and their families. In reviewing the HEAR Indiana conference program, we do not see anything new in this pathological approach which focuses on "fixing" an "impaired" baby or child. The result is that Deaf children are deprived of the use of a natural and fully accessible sign language, deprived of the opportunity of being bilingual, deprived of the ability to experience normal cognitive development, and deprived of the ability to achieve socio-emotional contentment. This misguided "speaking and listening" or "oral-only" focus, which excludes the use of sign language, does not reflect the best thinking of scholars or experts in the fields of Deaf education and early childhood development, and only builds up false hopes, all in the pursuit of raising a pseudo-hearing child.

At this late date, when HEARING babies are taught to sign and the benefits of signing are recognized for hearing children, educated people should no longer tolerate the ignorance perpetrated by organizations and programs which deny DEAF babies access to natural sign language.

The Deaf community in the US and Canada embraces ASL, the cultural connection that accompanies its use, and the access to a vibrant, clear, and accessible language that it provides. Deaf children of hearing families are thankful to their hearing parents who recognize them as being whole human beings deserving of visual language as well as other communication opportunities, and who do not regard them as being disabled or impaired children who need to be repaired.

The press release quotes Ms. Horton, the executive director of HEAR Indiana, as saying:

"It truly is amazing how far we've come. It wasn't that long ago that some cultures relegated the deaf to mental institutions because they didn't know what to do with people who had this disability. Today, modern technology and oral deaf education allow deaf and hard of hearing people to hear, speak, and communicate with their family, friends, and co-workers. That means that a child born today with hearing loss can grow up as part of the hearing world. We truly are doing deaf differently in the 21st century."

Let it be known that Deaf children who grow up with access to American Sign Language from the start, whose parents embrace the learning of ASL, and who attend Deaf Schools, will also "grow up as part of the hearing world." Not only will such children acquire a primary language that is visual, and not only will they develop bilingual fluency more easily (in ASL and also in written, and sometimes even spoken English), but they will have access to BOTH their family's culture AND the culture of the Deaf community that comes with American Sign Language. They will always be proud, independent individuals who have a place in society.

While HEAR Indiana claims to be "building bridges," what they are actually doing is DISMANTLING bridges of social partnership. By continuing to avoid the creation of new partnerships with Deaf experts in the fields of linguistics and Deaf education, more generations of Deaf children will continue to grow up without real fluency in ANY language.

It is time that Deaf people be key players in advising on the decisions that are made for Deaf children, so that they can provide input on questions of language and education, be mentors to hearing parents, and also be respected when they address general issues on behalf of Deaf babies who are not able to speak for themselves.

No one would ever, for example, have the effrontery to attempt to speak for Native American Indians by using the phrase "Doing Native American Differently." By the same token, we cannot grant sanction to attempts to "Do Deaf Differently"--attempts which blatantly and flagrantly exclude the participation of Deaf people themselves.

The Deaf Bilingual Coalition, as well as members of organizations which support this coalition, would like to express how proud we all are of the heritage of American Sign Language and being bilingual. It is our goal to educate the public so that those who are in positions to influence parents and have a positive impact on Deaf babies' lives will become aware that NOW is the time to build partnerships with Deaf experts and Deaf professionals, so that we will all be able to work for the betterment of Deaf babies' lives, including promoting their right to be bilingual in ASL and English.

Bilingually,

The Deaf Bilingual Coalition, www. dbcusa. org.

The Committee on Fellows evaluates candidates' contributions to the advancements of statistics, giving due weight to publications, the positions held by the candidates in the organizations in which they are employed, activities within the Association, membership and attainments in other societies, and other professional activities. Selection committee members were Robert M. Bell, Chair; Demissie Alemayehu, Roderick Joseph Little, Roxy L. Peck, Bonnie K. Ray, Nozer D. Singpurwalla, John H. Thompson, Preston J. Cardiff, Wales (PRWEB) October 24, 2009

Tracesmart this week sees one of its employees travelling to Africa to help the South Wales charity, The SAFE Foundation. Louise Hewlett, Tracesmart's Communications Executive will head out to Uganda on a fact-finding mission to help progress SAFE's volunteer project, a new initiative for professional or like-minded people that are keen to get involved in third-world projects.

Just before embarking on her long journey, Louise Hewlett commented on her trip, "This is my first time in Africa, it's taken a long time to organise, but it's great that we will soon be in Uganda. The plight of these African children is incredible and shocking at times; it'll be good to see where exactly the money we have raised is invested and to be able to further research the new volunteer initiative we have launched. I'm looking forward to an exciting and rewarding trip."

Louise has worked at Tracesmart for nearly 4 years where she has helped raise the company's profile via numerous media activities. Tracesmart's primary activity in the consumer market is to provide an intuitive online facility to find relatives and friends, offering in addition, a powerful name and address search service utilising the electoral roll (http://www. tracesmart. co. uk/electoral-roll/ (http://www. tracesmart. co. uk/electoral-roll/)) at the principal data source. Since its launch www. tracesmart. co. uk has grown to become one of the UK's leading web based people tracing portals.

SAFE, an acronym for Support, Aid, Fun and Education, was founded in 2005 to assist in the provision of grants and materials that could contribute to poverty relief in developing third world countries and more specifically support remote or smaller projects, often, unable to access mainstream relief funding. Louise, in her spare time, has been actively involved with the aid organisation for over four years and introduced SAFE to Mike Trezise, the people search (http://www. tracesmart. co. uk/people-search/ (http://www. tracesmart. co. uk/people-search/)) company's Managing Director. The charity has since become one of Tracesmart's charity of choice, as part of its corporate social responsibility program.

Tracesmart's Communications Manager, Owen Roberts remarked, "It's of no surprise that Louise devotes so much of her spare time with SAFE and is very vocal and passionate about the charity. It's a great, noteworthy cause that we at Tracesmart are happy and proud to support. We wish Louise well on her travels and every success for the project."

NORTHWEST SOFTWARE EXPO HIGHLIGHTS OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE

LinuxFest Northwest, a regional exposition for computer users interested in the Linux operating system and other Open Source software, will be held on April 26 at Bellingham Technical College (BTC) in Bellingham, Washington. This event is being hosted by BTC and is being organized by Linux User Groups from Bellingham, Kitsap Peninsula, Seattle, and Tacoma, Washington, and Portland, Oregon.

Admission to the event is free. The public is invited and will find material appropriate for computer users having a wide range of interests and expertise.

Jon "maddog" Hall, an internationally recognized pioneer in the Open Source software movement, will be featured as the keynote speaker. Events will include introductory to advanced lectures and tutorials presented by Open Source experts. There will be a number of vendor booths and a raffle of valuable computer products. A detailed schedule of events can be found at the event website, http://www. linuxnorthwest. com (http://www. linuxnorthwest. com).

There will be a welcoming address given by Dr. Gerald Humphries, president of BTC, before the lectures begin. The schedule of lectures can be found online at the event website.

"We have an exciting lineup of speakers this year," said Leland Anderson, an organizer of the event. "Not only are we privileged to have Jon Hall as our keynote speaker, several of our presenters are respected authors of books. In addition to lectures, hands-on tutorials will be taught in the BTC computer labs."

"We've added a new educational track this year on the use of Linux in schools," Anderson said. "There will also be some great tutorials on the Apache web server, free database management applications, Internet security, Perl, and Java all given by local professionals and expert users."

"Open Source software programs allow developers to view and modify the source code without having to pay for licenses to do so and, with certain exceptions, are required to make those modifications freely available to others," said Irvin Dorfman, an event organizer and publicist. "End user software developed from this Open Source code is generally available to the public at low cost, and often at no cost. Any end user software that is available free from the distributor can also be shared unrestricted with other users."

"Open Source software is gaining popularity. If you are a student, a small business operator, a non-profit organization, a library or a school, the low cost and great reliability of Open Source software is appealing," said Jed Reynolds, a software engineer from Bellingham.

"The exposition provides a showcase for anyone interested in learning more about the Linux and BSD operating systems and other Open Source software," said Jeremy C. Reed, an event organizer and speaker. "Booths and speakers this year will highlight alternative desktop operating systems and stable, low-cost servers running Open Source software."

"We will be cooperating with other Educational Service Districts (ESDs) in both Washington and Oregon to present the ways that Open Source software is used in their respective regions," said Eric Hall, Information Services director for Washington's Northwest Educational District (ESD) 189.

"ESDs provide support services primarily to public K-12 education. Many ESDs are supportive of Open Source software as a way to stretch the shrinking technology dollars available to our schools."

There will be booths hosting vendors and demonstrations by enthusiasts. A list of vendors and demonstrations can be found at the event website. Vendors and presenters interested in participating can also find more information about LinuxFest Northwest at http://www. linuxnorthwest. com (http://www. linuxnorthwest. com), or contact Leland Anderson at (360) 733-6010.

Creating a New Generation of Founding Fathers

Creating a New Generation of Founding Fathers

C2 Education, a leading national education services provider, is celebrating the Fourth of July by honoring some of the best and brightest of America’s students. “These students are our future,” says C2 co-founder David Kim, “and we pride ourselves in helping these students to become tomorrow’s leaders, a new generation of Founding Fathers.”

Duluth, GA (PRWEB) July 5, 2010

Each school year, a new generation of students learns about this country’s Founding Fathers. They study Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and George Washington in order to learn about the principles that this country was built on. What many students fail to realize is that even now, two hundred some-odd years later, those men still represent an ideal that often gets lost in the rigors of traditional education. C2 Education (http://www. c2educate. com/), a premier education company, strives to right that wrong.

“We don’t simply want to help our students get a higher test score or a better grade,” says C2 co-founder David Kim. “We want to help our students to love learning simply for the sake of learning, to become open-minded and creative individuals with the capacity for innovation, and to learn the importance of community involvement and leadership. In short, our goal is to go beyond basic facts and figures in order to create well-rounded students with the potential to become the Founding Fathers of their generation.”

But how does C2 Education accomplish this goal? “In addition to utilizing holistic teaching methods that are designed to create a safe, challenging, and enjoyable learning environment,” Mr. Kim says, “we must also show students the values of innovation and creative thinking, and encourage students to develop leadership skills and get involved with their communities.”

Mr. Kim notes that C2 Education already has an impressive track record when it comes to community involvement. “Just last month we were issued a Proclamation from the Mayor of Jersey City in recognition of C2 students’ contributions to their communities,” he says. “We recognize that education doesn’t begin and end with a text book – education must be about more than simply imparting knowledge.” That is why each C2 educator encourages students to extend their learning beyond the classroom by participating in extracurricular activities, performing community service projects, and taking advantage of non-traditional education opportunities.

C2’s teaching methods, programs, and curricula (http://www. c2educate. com/main/smartercurriculum) also encourage innovation and creative thinking. “We make sure that we always act as a model of innovative thinking for our students,” Mr. Kim says. “We work to create unique curricula and we endeavor to constantly adapt to the ever-changing nature of education.” In fact, C2 Education is currently working to finalize a partnership with a leading online Advanced Placement course (http://www. c2educate. com/page/entranceexams) provider. As school budgets continue to shrink, school course offerings shrink as well, making it increasingly difficult for students to take AP courses. C2 Education will attempt to close the gap by offering an alternative way for students to take these classes.

In addition, C2’s innovative curriculum (http://www. prweb. com/releases/2010/06/prweb4184274.htm) also focuses on developing the students’ creative and critical thinking skills. “For example,” Mr. Kim says, “this year we rolled out a summer writing program. These students were learning to write well, to write creatively, to form logical arguments, and to perform good research – and they were having fun doing it. For us, that is success. We aren’t just a test preparation company. Our students earn high test scores and good grades not because we pump information into them so that they can pass a test, but because we focus on creating well-rounded, highly educated students – and well-rounded, highly educated students get high test scores and good grades.”

C2’s results (http://www. c2educate. com/main/ourresults) bear out this idea. As students begin reporting their 2010 SAT scores (http://www. c2educate. com/page/entranceexams) to C2, there seems to be more and more reason to celebrate. In April, a C2 student earned a perfect score on the ACT. Another student has earned a perfect score on the PSAT, the exam that determines finalists for the National Merit Scholarship. So far this year, 52 C2 students have received perfect 800s either on SAT Subject Tests or on individual sections of the SAT. Most impressive of all, one of C2’s students has already reported a perfect 2400 on their 2010 SAT. “One of our students in Stockbridge, Georgia has gotten a perfect score this year,” Mr. Kim says, “which is an absolutely amazing accomplishment! This is the first time that one of our Stockbridge students has gotten a perfect 2400. We are so proud of our student and the teachers and counselors who worked with her.” C2 Education’s graduating seniors have also given cause for celebration. (http://www. prweb. com/releases/2010/04/prweb3908134.htm) 90% of C2’s college-bound seniors were accepted at their first or second choice school. Of those, nearly half were accepted at a top 25 school.

“We hope that all of our students continue to succeed long after they leave C2,” Mr. Kim says. “I carry with me the image of Thomas Jefferson, well into his 70s, reading with his grandchildren each evening. There was a man who was so enamored of education and the joys it could bring that even in his golden years he strived to offer the merits of his wisdom to the next generation. When I think of the term ‘life-long learner’, I think of Thomas Jefferson. It is my fondest hope that one day, our students will follow in his footsteps and form a new generation of intelligent, educated, innovative Founding Fathers.”

Prom Fever will hit Cleveland this spring as one of the most exciting prom events in the nation sweeps into the Tower City Center from 12:00 to 6:00pm, Sunday, March 6, 2005. The festivities center around prom events and fashion, each young man and woman dressed up in Prom elegance--pulling out all the stops down to their best corsages, cravats and cummerbunds. Invited to the revelries are over a hundred Northeast Ohio schools. With thousands of dollars in prizes, hundreds of giveaways from local vendors, and a professionally produced prom fashion show featuring students from local high-schools, Prom-A-Palooza is the prom event of the century.

Offtoprom, American Commodore Tuxedo, Tower City Center, Rock the House, KISS FM, Dave & Busters, Hard Rock Cafe, and Fifth Third Bank along with other local merchants have partnered with OfftoProm. com to help create this new breed of prom extravaganza. In a true festival atmosphere, everywhere you turn, something will be happening. During the event, students will have a chance to win a variety of individual prizes including opportunities for gowns, accessories, tuxes, limousines for prom night and prom packages.

For attendees and participating schools, Prom-A-Palooza is an opportunity to give back to the educational community. OfftoProm will donate 50% of all proceeds to help the registered school of Cleveland defray the expenses of prom and prom related activities. Tickets for this event will be sold for $5.00 in advance, and $2.50 of the purchase price of each ticket sold by students will be donated back to their schools. In addition, with each admission to Prom-A-Palooza 2005, schools will be entered to win an Extreme Prom - where a personality from KISS 96.5 FM will “crash” their prom in 2005. Schools will also have an opportunity to win a grand prize of $1,000.00 for use towards their school's prom and prom related activities.

To give their students a chance to participate in this fantastic event, Northeast Ohio Schools will want to register for Prom-A-Palooza by calling Debra Dixon or Randy Buckosh, the founding partners of OfftoProm, at 440 871 6979.
