New York, NY (PRWEB) September 19, 2007

The new Social Work Hospice & Palliative Care Network (SWHPN) will be the first national organization of its kind that unites social work professionals, consumers, and stakeholder organizations in the field of hospice, palliative and end-of-life care.

"Planning an effective network has been a two-year project, and the results are exciting," says Grace Christ, DSW, Professor of Social Work at Columbia University, former Director of the Social Work Leadership Development Awards Program and SWHPN's first Board Chairperson.

The foundation for SWHPN was laid when a group of distinguished social workers and interdisciplinary leaders came together in Washington, D. C., at the 2nd Social Work Summit on End-of-Life Care.

This three-day conference in 2005, funded by the Open Society Institute's Project on Death in America, with support from the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and the National Association of Social Workers, developed a Steering Committee whose primary charge was to investigate the forming of a much needed organization. In June of 2007 New Jersey Health Decisions (NJHD), a state-based non-profit, restructured and joined with SWHPN to broaden its scope.

"Our mandate is to help individuals and their families make better informed decisions, increase awareness of psychosocial services at the close of life, advance excellence in care, and represent the public interest in shaping all levels of policy related to these issues," comments Gary L. Stein, JD, MSW, the organization's Vice Chair and former Executive Director of New Jersey Health Decisions. Stein also is an Associate Professor at the Wurzweiler School of Social Work at Yeshiva University, and brings a substantial background in biomedical ethics to the new organization.

"We seek to update social work education, research, policy and practice to reflect Americans' changing views with regard to the quality of care for seriously ill and dying individuals and their bereaved family and friends," says Sherri Weisenfluh, LCSW, MSW, Associate Vice President of Counseling Services at Hospice of the Bluegrass and Social Work Section Leader of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.

"This is a social work network that we expect will grow. We also will partner with other end-of-life organizations to expand our influence," says Judy Peres, LCSW-C. Peres has developed major national health policy initiatives to improve end-of-life care while working with Last Acts, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation-funded campaign. Peres is the SWHPN Board Secretary.

Governed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors, SWHPN's activities also will include development of web resources for patients, families, and professionals. For more information about SWHPN, please visit www. swhpn. org.

Abington Surgeon First in Pennsylvania to Implant Investigative Device to Treat Leg Pain Caused by Spinal Stenosis

Abington Surgeon First in Pennsylvania to Implant Investigative Device to Treat Leg Pain Caused by Spinal Stenosis

New treatment for chronic leg pain now in clinical trials

Abington, PA (Vocus) March 18, 2010

Guy Lee, M. D., spine surgeon at Abington Memorial Hospital, was the first in Pennsylvania to treat leg pain and numbness caused by lumbar spinal stenosis using the Superion™ Interspinous Spacer (ISS) from VertiFlex® Inc.

The procedure performed by Lee is part of a clinical trial to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of this new device in the treatment of leg pain caused by moderate lumbar spinal stenosis. Spinal stenosis, the degenerative narrowing of the spaces in the spine that can lead to spinal cord and/or nerve root compression, is believed to be the cause of leg and back pain for nearly 1.2 million Americans.

Information on the clinical trial is as follows:

Info session: New Clinical Trial for Spinal Stenosis
Join othopaedic spine surgeons from Abington Memorial Hospital for an information session and Q&A about a new clinical trial for patients with spinal stenosis. Date: Thursday April 8, 2010 Time: 6 to 8 p. m. Place: Frobese Auditorium; Abington Memorial Hospital For more information, please call 215-481-BONE.

The device being tested is a potential alternative to traditional spinal surgery that could act as a support column to open the passageways through which the nerve roots travel from the lumbar spine to the legs. Made of titanium and smaller than a quarter, the Superion ISS is designed to relieve leg, buttock and groin pain resulting from pressure that can be placed on the spinal nerve roots from walking or standing for long periods. It is hoped that patients who are implanted with the Superion ISS may experience a reduction in pain and the possibility of resuming normal daily activities more rapidly after surgery.

“With Superion ISS, I am able to offer patients suffering from moderate spinal stenosis an option that has the potential to relieve their chronic leg pain while preserving their natural anatomy,” said Lee, the study’s principal investigator at Abington. “With the small incision and straightforward surgical technique for implanting the device, we anticipate the study will show patients can be back on their feet shortly after surgery.”

Chronic lower back pain with the radiating leg pain is typically treated conservatively with physical therapy and other non-invasive therapies. If and when such treatments no longer provide relief, patients may be offered a surgical option called spinal decompression which involves the removal of the bone and soft tissue pressing on nerve roots. This procedure can involve a large incision, may result in a relatively lengthy recovery period and may be performed concurrently with a spinal fusion procedure. The intent of Superion ISS is to provide some patients with an alternative to spinal decompression with or without spinal fusion. The new procedure is a minimally invasive surgical technique performed through a single, half-inch skin incision that is designed to stabilize the affected level(s) while allowing the patient to move without significant restriction.

In this study, the Superion ISS is being compared to the X-STOP® Interspinous Process Distraction (IPD® Device, an FDA-approved interspinous spacer that is implanted in a slightly different manner than Superion ISS). Study participants must have been diagnosed with lumbar spinal stenosis and have been undergoing non-operative treatment of unrelieved symptoms for at least six months. They must be over 45 years old, have leg, buttock or groin pain that is relieved by sitting or bending forward, and cannot have a history of prior surgery of the lumbar (lower) spine. The study will determine if this device should be made commercially available in the U. S. To date, the Superion device has been implanted in more than 950 patients worldwide.

Back pain sufferers interested in participating in this trial should call 215-830-0700, extension 3121 or visit http://www. amh. org. For patient education regarding the Superion study, please visit http://www. superionstudy. com.

American Eurocopter Selects Lauckgroup to Renovate the CompanyÂ’s Dallas Office

American Eurocopter Selects Lauckgroup to Renovate the CompanyÂ’s Dallas Office

Lauckgroup, Inc., an interior architecture firm with twenty years of experience creating interiors, announces the firm has been selected to re-design offices for American Eurocopter, a wholly owned subsidiary of EADS (European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company).

(PRWEB) September 9, 2004

Lauckgroup, Inc., an interior architecture firm with twenty years of experience creating interiors, announces the firm has been selected to re-design offices for American Eurocopter, a wholly owned subsidiary of EADS (European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company), one of the worldÂ’s three largest aerospace manufacturers. Lauckgroup will be renovating approximately 12,000 square feet of the companyÂ’s central offices at its Grand Prairie, 52-acre facility in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.

LauckgroupÂ’s design efforts on behalf of American Eurocopter include updating the companyÂ’s executive and administrative offices to align with its sophisticated brand image. As leading developers and manufacturers of helicopters, American Eurocopter sought to translate elements of its world-class, technologically-advanced image into its Dallas corporate offices. The project features a new building entrance with a landscaped courtyard. The metal entrance canopy is shaped like a wing and the tall icon element at the entry to the building resembles a helicopter tail section, including the companyÂ’s signature fenestron element. In the reception area, crisp finishes such as granite flooring set off the video and scale model displays of the companyÂ’s products. The project, slated to be completed in November 2004, includes an interior renovation of 8,500 square feet and another 3,250 square feet of entryway and courtyard space.

“We have had expansive facilities in Grand Prairie, Texas for nearly two decades and continue to feel it is a strategic location for our objectives,” stated Marc Paganini, President of American Eurocopter. “Our helicopter products employ the most advanced technology available today. Our objective was to bring that essence to our corporate offices and create a comfortable, streamlined marketing, sales and work environment.”

American EuropcopterÂ’s Grand Prairie facility is centered in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, at the Grand Prairie Air Field. At the facility, the company works with over 400 U. S.-based customers, keeping more than 1,300 Eurocopter helicopters operational nationwide. Services offered at the Grand Prairie location include an expansive inventory of product spares; personalized technical support; factory authorized blade, dynamic component repair and overhaul capabilities; completions and STC customization services; a vast library of technical information; national network of factory-authorized service centers; and comprehensive transition flight and maintenance training programs.

“Helicopters are beautiful machines, the result of precision engineering and high tech craftsmanship. Rarely do we, as designers, have the opportunity to use such a rich and visual palette to work from. In the space we’ve used materials reminiscent of aircraft technology combined with references to air and wind— the environment in which these aircraft fly. Walking up to the building and into the space, you can feel the excitement of flying and the company’s pride in their product,” stated Brigitte Preston, Lauckgroup Principal of Design.

“We are very excited about working on behalf of American Eurocopter and renovating their current space to reflect their cutting-edge identity,” stated Anne Kniffen, President of Lauckgroup. “The project represents a unique opportunity for Lauckgroup to work with a highly dynamic aerospace company.”

LAUSD Selects Interview USA's Virtual Video Interview™ System to Bridge the Chasm Between Central HR Processes and the Principals in the District

LAUSD Selects Interview USA's Virtual Video Interview™ System to Bridge the Chasm Between Central HR Processes and the Principals in the District

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) selected Interview USA's patent-pending Virtual Video Interview™ solution to assist in the school site selection process for teachers in the District. With the solution, teachers can record their VVI while in the HR offices and minutes later it is available to principals throughout the District. Based on hiring needs, principals preview the VVIs of teachers who are certified in the subject areas needed at their schools. This system improves HR's communication with schools and provides principals with immediate access to newly recruited teachers.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) August 16, 2005

Sarasota, FL-based Interview USA, Inc. has been selected by LAUSD to provide Interview USA's patent-pending Virtual Video Interviews™ to the Human Resources department to expedite the school site selection process in a District with more than 700 schools covering a geographic area of over 700 square miles.

After their central HR processing, teachers are often provided lists of vacancies in the district and are encouraged to contact the respective principals for an interview. As part of LAUSD's ongoing effort to be on the cutting edge of new technology, the HR department felt that Interview USA's technology would allow principals easier and quicker access to highly qualified teachers. Teachers are able to record their Virtual Video Interviews™ while in the central offices and, minutes later, these interviews are available to the principals. In the short time since implementation in mid-June VVI has proven to be an asset in the hiring process. Principals have already selected over 50 teachers who were introduced to them through the Virtual Video Interview. Additionally, the District's recruiters will be able to record VVI's from teaching applicants in the field and upload them into the system for immediate access by principals. LAUSD's recruiters attend teaching job fairs in about 20 states.

11% of the nation's workforce will begin retiring in three years. As baby-boomers retire, it is expected that competition for good employees will heat up in many occupations not already plagued with national shortages like teachers. Employers that can identify potential employees faster and get them to hire will be at a competitive advantage. The Virtual Video Interview™ System makes interviews available to employers on an enterprise basis in minutes.

“The Virtual Video Interview™ really gives the teachers an advantage because LAUSD's principals are immediately able to get a feel for the teacher's personality, their demeanor, their communication skills, and enthusiasm for teaching. These are elements that are impossible to get from just a resume and a portfolio of their work,” said Raj Doraisamy, CEO of Interview USA, Inc.

There is already interest in the Virtual Video Interviews™ from other departments within LAUSD to assist them in their efforts to meet the employment needs of the second largest school district in the Nation.

About Interview USA, Inc.

Interview USA, Inc., based in Sarasota, FL, (www. InterviewUSA. com), was founded in 2001 as a provider of workflow automation solutions. The privately-held company markets its Virtual Video Interview™ technology as a cost-cutting, time-saving tool to any organization that conducts interviews, whether for hiring or other purposes. IUSA's first deployment in an educational institution was installed in February 2003 at the University of South Florida in Tampa. IUSA's unique approach to developing technology has attracted partnerships from global enterprises such as Sprint and Fujitsu, Ltd., the third largest provider of Information Technology consulting services in the world. Top Business School Announces Strongest Enrollment in its History

Top Business School Announces Strongest Enrollment in its History

Chicago Booth School of Business has enrolled the strongest group of entering full-time MBA students in its history.

Chicago (PRWEB) September 19, 2009

The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, one of the top business schools in the world (www. ChicagoBooth. edu), has enrolled the strongest group of entering full-time M. B.A. students in its history, the school announced.

When classes begin on Thursday, September 24, there will be 592 first-year students enrolled, compared with the previous record of 577 set last year. The jump in enrollment coincides with the smallest "summer melt" ever recorded by Chicago Booth.

"Summer melt" describes what happens when students who accept an offer of admission for the fall term abandon their deposits and decide not to enroll after all, either for work-related or personal reasons.

"This year, our summer melt was negligible compared to what it was in the past," said Stacey Kole, deputy dean for the full-time M. B.A. program. "Because of our high yield this year, we had to turn away many extremely talented candidates on our waiting lists," she said.

"Several factors likely contributed to the higher enrollment and lower summer melt this year, including our stronger brand presence in the U. S. and globally," Kole said. Chicago Booth has taken steps to raise its visibility, including increased use of advertising and marketing, she said.

Full-time enrollment of first-year and second-year students at the school is 1,169.

The incoming M. B.A. class includes 35 percent women, equaling the record high set last year. The average age of the new students in 28 and 18 percent of them already have at least one other graduate degree. Sixteen percent of the students are married and 36 percent are from outside the U. S.

The largest group of international students is from India (34 student), China (16), Canada (15) and Brazil (14). The number of students from Western Europe increased to 40 this year from 24 last year, led by a big jump in students from France. The Class of 2011 includes 10 students from France, compared with six last year and two in 2007. Enrollment from Asia declined to 78 for the Class of 2011 compared with 94 a year ago.

The typical student scored 714 on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) and had an undergraduate grade point average of 3.53.

The University of Chicago Booth School of Business is one of the leading business schools in the world. The school's faculty includes many renowned scholars and its graduates include many business leaders across the U. S. and worldwide.

The Chicago Approach to Management Education is distinguished by how it leverages fundamental knowledge, its rigor, and its practical application to business challenges.

Chicago Booth offers a full-time M. B.A. program, an evening M. B.A. program, a weekend M. B.A. program, and an executive M. B.A. program in Chicago, London and Singapore. The school also offers a Ph. D. program, open enrollment executive education, and custom corporate education.

“This is a book that could change things if only enough people would read it and react.” – The Gaited Horse Magazine

Through the lives of two innocent horses we discover the painful fate of many. We follow the development of their breed from its beginning to the present. Equine nobility, innocence, and truth, grapple with human cruelty, greed, and duplicity. It is an epic battle that continues after the final pages are turned, entrusting the reader with the knowledge of blatant atrocities, which cannot be ignored.

“Once you have achieved the willing suspension of disbelief about talking horses, what they have to say is chilling.”

“All the words coming out of the mouths of politicians and apologists for the industry will not move you as much as the simple speeches put into the mouths of horses that the author has clearly known, worked around, and loved.” – Steppin’ Out

The author is a second-generation horse trainer with four decades of professional experience. This is his first novel.

“Though this is a novel in which horses talk to each other and have vision and insight beyond their supposed capabilities, do not discount the amount of truth contained in these pages.” Eugene Davis

Helen Doron Early English, Education Franchise - the Forerunner for the Piccolingo Campaign

Helen Doron Early English, Education Franchise - the Forerunner for the Piccolingo Campaign

The European Commission recently launched its Piccolingo Campaign with the assumption that early language learning is the only way children will learn another language and culture. Since its beginnings 25 years ago, Helen Doron Early English has stood at the forefront of this principle.

London, UK (PRWEB) March 4, 2010

Under the watchword: “The more languages you know, the more of a person you are,” the European Commission continues to reaffirm its commitment to multilingualism for European culture. The recent launch of its Piccolingo campaign on early language learning is testimony to this.

Standing at the forefront of the European Unions commitment to early language learning is Helen Doron Early English which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. In 1985, when linguist and educator Helen Doron was searching for materials to teach spoken English to children aged 1 – 6 years old, she discovered that worldwide, nothing suitable existed. Developing her own innovative methodology, teaching system, and learning materials to fill the gap in early language learning, Helen Doron Early English soon became the first programme worldwide to teach English as a foreign language in the same manner one would learn a mother tongue language.

Indeed, when, in 1985, Helen Doron was asked if she had done market research to evaluate the demand for early English learning, she replied: “Market research is irrelevant in this case. Parents don’t yet understand the importance of learning English before the age of 7, nor do they understand the importance of the correct methodology and materials. It is my job to create the demand.” Implementing solid curriculums, high quality music, teacher guides and teacher training, the Helen Doron Early English education franchise can be found in 22 European countries and 31 countries worldwide. Helen Doron is proud to be a leading influence, paving the way for such powerful campaigns as Piccolingo, and looks forward to their shared partnership and collaboration.

Both the Piccolingo campaign and Helen Doron Early English will be reaching out to local communities throughout the year to promote awareness of the many benefits to early language acquisition.
“Piccolingo in action" will allow local communities the opportunity to circulate information on early language learning, present new activities in the field and promote existing ones.

Bennington BookFest Celebrates TownÂ’s Literary Renaissance

Bennington BookFest Celebrates TownÂ’s Literary Renaissance

Bennington BookFest, slated for Saturday May 15, 2004, presents Pulitzer, Guggenheim and other award-winning writers as small Vermont town celebrates not only its famed literary heritage, but also its rebirth.

BENNINGTON, VT (PRWEB) April 22, 2004 -

– The small Vermont town drew national headlines last year for its progressive renaissance in elementary education at The Molly Stark School. Now, the town’s public library is experiencing a renaissance of its own kind. Over the years, the Bennington Free Library has grown to become a vital community resource, offering everything from kindergarten and pre-school programs to adult continuing education seminars. The organization’s annual used book sale, has also grown to include as many as fifteen thousand new, used and vintage books, CDs, DVDs, videos, toys and games, drawing people from across the state as well as from neighboring New York and Massachusetts. Now, the Friends of the Bennington Free Library are building on their successful past to host a different kind of event.

The premiere of the Bennington BookFest, a day-long celebration of the literary arts, will take place May 15, 2004, and feature not only a book sale, but also play host to Pulitzer Prize Finalist and National Book Critics Circle Award nominee David Gates, Guggenheim Poetry Fellow April Bernard, novelists Christopher Miller and Ben Jones, Children’s author Rebecca Rupp and award-winning poet Matthew Wills—nearly a dozen authors, poets and playwrights in all.

The event, to benefit literacy programming and accessibility needs, will feature Jennifer Barlow conducting a drop-in bookmaking workshop for kids. Novelist Ben Jones will lead a creative writing seminar on language and meaning, entitled: "I said it. I meant it. Pity the non-believers." Festival highlights also include a special childrenÂ’s story hour, a community-wide poetry slam and a cocktail reception at the Pangaea Lounge.

For over a century, Bennington County has been home to poets Robert Frost, W. H. Auden and Mary Oliver, authors Jamaica Kincaid, Bernard Malamud, Shirley Jackson, Jonathan Lethem, Donna Tartt, Rebecca Rupp, Anne Hunter and Johanna Hurwitz. “We’re extremely excited to be part of Bennington’s literary heritage as well as its renaissance,” said Tammy Buckley, President of the Friends of the Bennington Library, “It’s only natural that Bennington’s Library should set the stage for this kind of community event.”

According to Buckley, the idea for BookFest was sparked by the need to build on the library’s past fundraising efforts in order to maintain its current schedule of programming while meeting new technology and facilities needs. “One of our many goals,” said Buckley, “is to raise enough money to purchase an automated door system so that handicapped and physically challenged members of our community can have full access to the library and its resources. We want to serve the whole community and we think we can accomplish this by creating an event that recognizes and reaches back to the town’s remarkable literary roots, while acknowledging the next generation of writers who are deciding to call Bennington their home.”

The day will kick off at Sacred Heart-St. Francis de Sales Church located at 238 West Main Street in downtown Bennington with the used book sale starting at 9am and continuing until 4pm with surprise discounts announced throughout the day. Author readings, discussions and signings will begin at 10am. The drop-in bookmaking workshop will take place between 11am and 1pm. Participants should allow 30 minutes for this workshop. The poetry slam and author reception will begin at 6pm at the Pangaea Lounge on Prospect Street in North Bennington and continue on into the evening.

A complete listing of workshops, featured authors and books can be found at: http://www. benningtonbookfest. org (http://www. benningtonbookfest. org)

BookFest is sponsored by The Friends of the Bennington Free Library. Special thanks are due to The Bennington Book Shoppe, EvanÂ’s News, North Bennington Graded School, Off the Wall Gym, The Otter Pond Bindery, and the Pangaea Lounge & Restaurant.

Connecticut in the Lead Again with Bill to Expand Access for Informed Consent Regarding Psychiatric and Psychological Testing of School Children

Connecticut in the Lead Again with Bill to Expand Access for Informed Consent Regarding Psychiatric and Psychological Testing of School Children

Hartford – State Representative John Hetherington (R-New Canaan), introduced landmark legislation that will expand procedural safeguards regarding a parent’s right to full informed consent procedures and will reinforce a parent’s fundamental right to refuse psychiatric or psychological testing and/or mental evaluations on their child.

Hartford CT (PRWEB) February 3, 2005

State Representative John Hetherington (R-New Canaan), introduced landmark legislation that will expand procedural safeguards regarding a parentÂ’s right to full informed consent procedures and will reinforce a parentÂ’s fundamental right to refuse psychiatric or psychological testing and/or mental evaluations on their child.

CT House Bill 5328, if enacted, will require the Department of Education to include in their publication, “Steps to Protect a Child’s Right to Special Education: Procedural Safeguards,” the statement that neither the state or federal departments of education endorses or recommends any "mental health" checklist, particular form of assessment, or evaluation for psychiatric disorders. It would also require that parents receive a copy of the federal code for “Protection of Pupil Rights”, and a copy of the Hatch Amendment to the General Education Act, which became effective in November of 1984. The Hatch Amendment is a parental rights tool, in the form of a letter, that can be placed into their child’s record ensuring a parents right to decline particular programs within the education system that do not coincide with their belief systems or values.

In 2001, Connecticut was the first State in the nation to pass legislation prohibiting schools from recommending the use of a psychotropic drug for any child. Introduced by Representative Lenny Winkler (R-Groton), this law received international attention. Six other states then followed suit with similar laws, and on December 3rd, 2004, President Bush signed the landmark “Prohibition on Mandatory Medication Amendment”, a Federal law stating that schools cannot demand that a child take a controlled substance in order to remain in school.

“Children are labeled with stigmatizing mental ‘disorders’ based on a checklist of behaviors, not on scientific or medical evidence,” said Noelle Talevi, Executive Director of the Citizen’s Commission on Human Rights of Connecticut (CCHR), an international, human rights organization which investigates and exposes psychiatric violations of human rights. “Parents are too frequently faced with having no choice but to have their child evaluated by a psychologist or psychiatrist in order to get services in school, thus opening them up to subjective, unscientific labels and possible drug “treatments”, without being given all of the facts. They are not warned that the diagnoses are not based on medical testing, but are completely subjective, and that their child can be diagnosed and referred for drug treatment, based solely on a checklist of behaviors. HB 5328 is another great step toward giving control back to parents in regards to their child’s education”.

Ablechild is a national parent organization that works with parents, as well as human and civil rights groups, in order to safeguard, and protect both parental and children's rights.

While Controversial DREAM Act is Debated in The U. S. Senate, My Colleges and Careers Continues to Help Students Enroll in Online Courses and Stay Current on New Laws

While Controversial DREAM Act is Debated in The U. S. Senate, My Colleges and Careers Continues to Help Students Enroll in Online Courses and Stay Current on New Laws

The DREAM Act is still up for debate in the U. S. Senate, a Gallup poll shows most Americans would vote in favor of the act and Democrats and Republicans have widely opposing views on the repercussions of the new law. However, My Colleges and Careers continues to meet its goals of helping students enroll in college and keep them informed about new laws and regulations.

Provo, Utah (Vocus/PRWEB) December 16, 2010

The DREAM Act (the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act) would make it possible for people who were brought to the United States as illegal immigrants when they were under the age of 16 to gain legal status by attending college or serving in the U. S. military.

On Dec. 8, 2010, the U. S. House of Representatives passed the DREAM Act with 216 for and 198 against. The act was delayed in the Senate when there were not enough votes to pass it. Schools, students, immigrants and taxpayers are all waiting to find out if it will be possible for some illegal immigrants to gain legal status through education or military service.

Although it is difficult to tell at this point if the DREAM Act will pass in the Senate and become law, My Colleges and Careers continues to work hard to help students find education opportunities, online college opportunities, and the online course that fits their needs. The site also keeps students informed about financial aid options and laws and government regulations that may impact their education.

While most people agree that education is a positive thing, and My Colleges and Careers believes that it can make profound differences in peoples’ lives, many have opposing views on the DREAM Act.

A Gallup poll shows that most Democrats (66 percent) would vote for the bill if they had the opportunity to. Those who support the DREAM Act believe it is a good way for young people to work for legal status by proving they are productive and contributing members of communities.

The poll reveals that most Republicans (63 percent), given the chance, would vote against the bill. One fear many opponents of the bill have is that it is in essence granting amnesty to illegal immigrants and will attract more illegal immigration to the U. S.

The Gallup poll shows that most Independents (57 percent) would also vote in favor of the DREAM Act.

According to the White House Blog, the DREAM Act was written by both Republicans and Democrats and “has long enjoyed bipartisan support.” The blog seeks to dispel myths about the act and to present the facts.

One benefit the blog highlights is that the act will support military recruitment efforts and readiness. By providing yet another incentive to join the military, recruitment efforts may have bigger results.

Another benefit listed by the White House is that the DREAM Act will help make the U. S. become more competitive in the world-wide economy and will have economic benefits for our country. The blog states that the act will “play an important part in the nation’s efforts to have the highest proportion of college graduates in the world by 2020.”

My Colleges and Careers supports and strives to contribute to this goal by helping students find the college and career that is right for them. Through information articles, blogs and information about traditional and online colleges and online courses, My Colleges and Careers helps students gain an education, whether it is traditional or an online college education.

The White House Blog also points out that the DREAM Act will allow the immigration and border security departments to point their efforts towards people who are a threat to the U. S.

While some fear the DREAM Act is a way of granting amnesty to some illegal immigrants, the White House tries to quell this fear by explaining that the bill “requires responsibility and accountability” on the part of the student and that they will only gain “conditional status” after meeting certain strict requirements.

After students have had the “conditional status” for six years they will once again be required to meet certain requirements or face deportation.

The White House Blog states that the passage of the DREAM Act would not encourage more illegal immigration because it would apply only to those people already in the U. S. it also makes it clear that students who fall under the act would not be eligible for federal grants.

Despite changes and disagreements in educational laws and regulations, My Colleges and Careers continues to be the best online resource for current students and for those considering starting or going back to school and enrolling in online college courses.

Http://www. mycollegesandcareers. com is committed to helping students find the best school for them so they can earn their college degree and embark on a rewarding career. A powerful resource for individuals who have full-time jobs and family responsibilities, My Colleges and Careers connects people with the programs that help them earn their degree online.

Dallas Lawyers Auxiliary Presents Justinian Award for Community Service to Haynes and Boone's George Bramblett

Dallas Lawyers Auxiliary Presents Justinian Award for Community Service to Haynes and Boone's George Bramblett

George Bramblett, a partner in Haynes and Boone 's Business Litigation Practice Group, has been selected to receive the Dallas Lawyers Auxiliary's 27th annual Justinian Award honoring dedication to community service.

Dallas, TX (Vocus) March 31, 2009

George Bramblett], a partner in Haynes and Boone]'s Business Litigation Practice Group, has been selected to receive the Dallas Lawyers Auxiliary's 27th annual Justinian Award honoring dedication to community service.

Mr. Bramblett is the third Haynes and Boone partner to receive the Justinian Award, following in the footsteps of founding partners Richard Haynes, honored in 1989, and Mike Boone, selected in 2004. Haynes and Boone is believed to be the only firm to see three of its partners bestowed with this prestigious honor.

"George is an excellent lawyer and leader because he has good judgment on the most complex issues," said Mr. Boone. "I can say without qualification that he is a lawyer's lawyer. These are some of the reasons why he is so deserving of the Justinian Award."

The Justinian Award, established in 1982 by the Dallas Lawyers Auxiliary as a first award of its kind in the United States, recognizes an outstanding attorney each year who has shown dedication to volunteer service. Mr. Bramblett was selected for his unwavering support of various agencies and causes throughout his 35-year tenure as a Dallas-area lawyer.

"Haynes and Boone was built on a culture of service and George sets the bar for the rest of us," said Haynes and Boone Managing Partner Terry Conner. "It is no surprise he follows Richard Haynes and Mike Boone as a recipient of this award. He has been a cornerstone of this firm and in his community throughout his career."

Longtime friend, colleague and 2006 Justinian Award winner, Thompson & Knight partner Sam Burford said, "I cannot think of any attorney more worthy of the Justinian Award than George. Since our law school days at SMU, George has been an example of what trial lawyers, and for that matter, all lawyers, strive to become: smart and resourceful, tenacious in representing clients and successful by any measure, not only in bar activities, but also in community leadership roles. George simply represents the best in all aspects of the legal profession."

A partner in Haynes and Boone for more than 30 years, Mr. Bramblett has maintained a diverse litigation practice and earned professional accolades along the way. He was named Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Dallas Bar Association in 2001, serves as a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and is a fellow in the American Board of Trial Advocates, where he served as President of the Dallas Chapter. He is a frequent CLE speaker and has written widely on courtroom procedures, including "The Court's Charge" and "The Ultimate Trial Notebook," both penned for the State Bar of Texas.

Mr. Bramblett's many honors include the SMU Law School Distinguished Alumni Award for Private Practice, Hall of Fame in the Baylor College of Dentistry, the Anti-Defamation League Jurisprudence Award, and the Alliance for Higher Education Award. In 2008, Mr. Bramblett received the Dallas Bar Foundation Fellows Award, the foundation's highest honor.

Mr. Bramblett has been included in Texas Super Lawyers, published by Texas Monthly Magazine, every year since its inception. Texas Super Lawyers also has designated him a Top 10 Lawyer in Texas.

Mr. Bramblett is a member of the Haynes and Boone Board of Directors. In his practice, he represents clients in the full range of business, commercial and tort litigation in state and federal courts throughout the nation and before administrative agencies and arbitration tribunals.

Haynes and Boone, LLP (http://haynesboone. com) is an international corporate law firm with offices in Texas, New York, California, Washington, D. C., Mexico City and Moscow, providing a full spectrum of legal services. With almost 550 attorneys, Haynes and Boone is ranked among the largest law firms in the nation by The National Law Journal. The firm has been recognized as one of the "Best Corporate Law Firms in America" (Corporate Board Member Magazine, 2001-2008), as one of "The Best 20 Law Firms to Work For" (Vault. com, 2008), and as a Top 100 law firm for both diversity (MultiCultural Law Magazine, 2009) and women (Women 3.0, 2008).

Laser Reproductions Undergoes Leadership Transition

Rapid prototyping, manufacturing and product development company Laser Reproductions is pleased to announce that current president Jerry Bordner is beginning the transition of some of the company’s leadership roles and responsibilities to sons Paul and Bret Bordner.

Dublin, OH (PRWEB) October 20, 2006

Columbus, Ohio—Rapid prototyping, manufacturing and product development company Laser Reproductions is pleased to announce that current president Jerry Bordner is beginning the transition of some of the company’s leadership roles and responsibilities to sons Paul and Bret Bordner.

Paul Bordner will officially assume the role as president of Laser Reproductions this October with Bret serving as vice president. Jerry Bordner will become chairman of the board and CEO.

Paul and Bret have dedicated over 15 years of service to the company and possess invaluable knowledge of rapid prototyping, product design, engineering and manufacturing.

“Paul and Bret were the two people who encouraged me to start this company from the very beginning. They also were the ones who pushed me to take risks and supported my business decisions,” said Jerry Bordner. “My sons have been integral in the growth of this company. I don’t think Laser Reproductions would even be close to the company that it is today without their strong leadership and business skills.”

Prior to the transition, Paul Bordner served as vice president of rapid prototyping, where he was responsible for the oversight of operations of the rapid prototyping division of Laser Reproductions. Paul joined Laser Reproductions’ parent company, Bordner & Associates, part time in 1989 and became a full-time staff member in 1993. He is also a principal owner in Laser Reproductions. Paul has extensive industry experience and training and has completed basic and advanced training in stereolithography 3-D systems, as well as beginning, intermediate and advanced training in AutoCAD blue print software.

“Laser Reproductions is our father’s legacy and we plan to honor that,” Paul Bordner said. “Bret and I have many exciting and new initiatives planned for the company, but we also want to reassure our customers that the company’s core values will stay true to our father’s founding principles. Our focus will be on Laser Reproductions’ continued strength and success.”

Paul is a member of the American Professional Model Makers Association (APMM), Vistage and 3D Systems Users Group (3DSUG). He lives with his wife, Natalie, and their three children in Baltimore, Ohio (ZIP Code 43105).

Before becoming vice president, Bret Bordner served as vice president of the original equipment manufacturing division, where he was responsible for contracting manufacturing products to outside vendors for use in injection molding, plastic extrusions and metal stamping. He is a principal owner of the company. He has been involved with Laser Reproductions and Bordner & Associates since October 1987. Bret has held a variety of positions in the company, including serving as set-up parts cleaner and project manager. He has also gained an extensive range of experience in the industry and in overall business operations by working in sales, engineering and invoicing. Bret is a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and the Family Business Center of Central Ohio. He lives with his wife, Tonya, and their four children in Groveport, Ohio (ZIP Code 43215).

Jerry’s professional career began as a drafter at American Standard Industrial Division, and later led to a position in the engineering department of Crane Plastics. A Columbus native, Jerry pursued his education at Franklin University with an emphasis in engineering and business administration.

Jerry is the recipient of the 2006 U. S. Small Business Administration District Small Business Person of the Year award for the Columbus region and the U. S. Small Business Administration Small Business Person of the Year for the state of Ohio. He was also a finalist for the 2005 Greater Columbus Chamber Small Business Leader of the Year award. In 2005 Laser Reproductions was the Family Business Center of Central Ohio’s Family Business of the Year Award finalist and was awarded the Columbus Business First Fast 50 Award—as one of the fifty fastest growing companies in central Ohio. Jerry serves on the Small Business Council of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce. He and his wife, Shirley, have been married for over 45 years. They live in Pickerington, Ohio (ZIP Code 43147).

Based in Gahanna, Ohio, Laser Reproductions specializes in rapid prototyping, manufacturing and product development. By combining today’s leading processes, a vast production capacity and expertise in design engineering, Laser Reproductions works as a full-service partner for industrial firms, original equipment manufacturers, inventors and architects. The company has been recognized as a 2005 Fast 50 recipient by Columbus Business First as one of the fastest growing companies in central Ohio. SafeMedia Corp Spotlights Filesharing Study: The Untold Dangers

SafeMedia Corp Spotlights Filesharing Study: The Untold Dangers

The "Dirty Little Secrets of P-2-P:" What Internet Users Don't Know, is Detailed in a Government Study on Popular P-2-P networks

Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) May 2, 2007

A new study by the Department of Commerce's United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) reveals that the "distributors of five popular file-sharing programs repeatedly deployed features that they knew or should have known could cause users to share files inadvertently."

"All Internet users should study this report carefully and use new technology measures to stop the immense danger of P2P networks on individuals, business, higher education institutions, and our national security," said CEO & President Safwat Fahmy, SafeMedia Corp., based in Boca Raton, Fl.

According to the report, "Virtually everyone who uses filesharing programs appear to use them exclusively to download infringing files. In practice, filesharing programs are used mostly to download and upload ("share") infringing copies of copyrighted music, movies, games, images, and software. For example, on June 27, 2005, in MGM v. Grokster, unrebutted evidence showed that 90 percent of available files on filesharing networks consisted of infringing files. In fact, the district court found undeniable evidence showing that almost 97 percent of the files requested for downloading were infringing. Perhaps for this reason, filesharing programs have become one of the most widely used, least discussed and reviewed, computer programs on the market."

The USPTO report, which analyzed BearShare, eDonkey, KaZaA, LimeWire and Morpeus discovered that all five "repeatedly tricked users into uploading infringing files inadvertently." According to the report "the distributors deployed at least five such dangerous features.
Redistribution features: All five programs analyzed have deployed a feature that will, by default, cause users of the program to upload (or "share") all files that they download.

Share-folder and Search-Wizard Features: These dangerous features can cause users to share inadvertently not only infringing files, but also sensitive personal files like tax returns, financial records, and documents containing private or even classified data.

Partial-uninstall features: At least four of the programs analyzed have deployed these features. If users uninstall one of these programs from their computers, the process will leave behind a file that will cause any subsequent installation of any version.

Coerced-sharing features: Four of the programs analyzed have deployed features that make it far more difficult for users to disable sharing of the folder used to store downloaded files."

The USPTO report also said, "Almost everyone who participates in one of the file-swapping networks is breaking the law in the process."

"Computer programs that can cause unintended file-sharing contribute to copyright infringement, and they threaten the security of personal, corporate, and governmental data," explained Jon Dudas, under secretary of commerce for intellectual property and who oversees copyright policy, who wrote the Foreword in the report.

The report also said that, "In a 2004 letter to six Senators, the distributors of KaZaA asserted that disabling KaZaA's redistribution feature would cripple the KaZaA network. In an internal email, Altnet asserted that "p2p exists because of this (redistribution) feature."

"There are several fallacies about file-sharing on the Internet," said CEO & President Safwat Fahmy, SafeMedia Corp., based in Boca Raton, Fl. "In this case the first one that pops up is 'Peer-To-Peer (P2P) is a viable distribution channel for the recording industry, and the entertainment industry in general.' When you read this most recent study from the US Patent Office, you quickly learn about the untold dangers."

"As the user downloads a song, the P2P program is making that very file available to all other program users-without their knowledge or permission," explained Safwat. "The study reveals that these schemes used by file sharing programs represent a real problem for less-experienced Internet users such as children and teenagers, who are often without supervision," said Fahmy.

The Department of Homeland Security warned that inadvertent file-sharing could compromise national security: "There are documented incidents of P2P file-sharing where Department of Defense sensitive documents have been found on non-US computers with no protection against hostile intelligence."

"A decade ago, no one would have thought that copyright infringement could threaten personal or national security," said Dudas. "Today, that threat is a reality; we need to understand its causes and find solutions."

SafeMedia's Clouseau® technology provides an easy, immediate and cost-effective way to totally protect home computers and networks from the dangers of illegal file-sharing programs.
