Pet Care and Pet Sitting Industry Stable Despite Economic Slow Down But Some Corporate Jobs Going to the Dogs

Pet Care and Pet Sitting Industry Stable Despite Economic Slow Down But Some Corporate Jobs Going to the Dogs

While few industries are completely recession proof, independent businesses in the pet care and pet-sitting industries have yet to experience a decline. In fact, some workers are opting out of the longer corporate hours look to pet care as the next step in their career paths.

King, NC (PRWEB) October 30, 2008

While few industries are completely recession proof; independent businesses in the pet care and pet-sitting industries have yet to experience a decline. According to the American Pet Products Association 2007-2008 National Pet Owners Survey, 63 percent of U. S. households own a pet, which equates to 71.1 million homes. Last year, $41.2 billion was spent on pets. It is estimated that even more is being spent this year, despite a slowing economy.

Chris Sutphin, member services supervisor for Pet Sitters International (PSI), the largest educational association for pet sitters, says all signs continue to point to a stable and growing membership. As a requirement of PSI membership, business owners must have 51 percent of their businesses dedicated to pet sitting and pet care. Independent pet-sitting businesses comprise the association's 8,000 members that are located predominantly in the United States and Canada.

"Geographically we've seen some businesses struggle more than others due to competition and other local economic factors," Sutphin said. "But overall, the independent pet sitter is maintaining quite well."

Ken Prouty, PSI member and owner of Next Best Friend Pet Sitting and More in St. Louis, MO, has seen a 74 percent increase in revenue this year compared to last year.

Robyn Simnioniw, owner of Priority Pets in Colorado Springs, CO, attributes the steady demand in her business to two main factors. She's noticed that many of her clients are not eliminating vacations, but choosing to drive instead of fly. This typically lengthens vacations and results in longer pet-sitting assignments. In addition, more people in her community are using professional pet sitters for everyday tasks such as midday walks and trips to the veterinarian.

"Due to the tumultuous economy, I've noticed people working longer hours to ensure job security, says Simnioniw. "This results in people employing professional pet sitters to care for their pets during their long work days."

Some workers opting out of the longer corporate hours look to pet care as the next step in their career paths. The industry continues to benefit from the post-corporate choices of many professionals.

Pat Olson, owner of Angel Paws Pet Sitting in Olathe, KS, was working part time as a pet sitter while also working full time in database management at a health insurance company. When her position was eliminated due to corporate downsizing, she decided to go into pet sitting full time.

Olson says "After I was downsized, I decided I couldn't go back to the corporate world. I worked for a couple of years at a pet-sitting company before starting my own. I am really surprised how busy I am. Already, I am fully booked for Thanksgiving and I have a handful of bookings for Christmas."

Robert Nager, owner of Decadent Dog in Boston, MA, left a profitable sales career after finding himself mentally and physically burned out.

"The benefits of leaving the corporate world behind have been truly enormous in ways I could not have imagined. My focus was always on more money and more sales. I remember the days with endless meetings and memos about parking or ID badge procedures. Now I am making a difference in the lives of so many dogs and their families. They truly appreciate my efforts," says Nager.

In addition to nurturing their passion for pets, some post-corporate professionals are attracted to the industry due to its relatively low start-up costs. The initial investment typically includes advertising materials, insurance and membership to an educational association. For more information about pet sitting as a profession, visit PSI's Web site at www. petsit. com] or call PSI headquarters at (336) 983-9222, ext. 1.

Free Teacher Guides From Education. com

Free Teacher Guides From Education. com

Free learning resources offered from eduction portal

(PRWEB) May 1, 2002

FREE TEACHER GUIDES FROM EDUCATION. COM

Education. com, the first online destination for parents, children and teachers, now offers free guides to help teachers focus on everyday education problems.

‘Developing Your Teaching Style’ is just one of the excellent teacher guides available; example excerpt follows:

Cast your mind back to when you were at school and you will probably remember your teachers having their own individual teaching styles. Some, you might have described as being boring, strict, grumpy or even useless, while others you may have felt were influential or inspiring. However you might have described them, their teaching style was probably not something that came about through conscious thought.

What do your pupils really think of you? In order to maximise a childÂ’s learning potential, a positive and effective teaching style is needed. Plenty of thought should be given to what works well for you and what works best for your pupils. Consider the following questions:

Are you comfortable with the words your pupils would use to describe you?

Are any barriers created by your mannerisms and approach to teaching?

Could any changes in your teaching style allow you to enjoy your job more?

Are you a confident teacher?

Do you allow your pupils to see you have a sense of humour and enjoy theirs?

Education. com also offers teachers daily news, weekly reports on key educational issues, free email, a resource centre, a ‘Virtual Staffroom’ with diary, discussion forum and even games! Find the site at: http://uk. education. com (http://uk. education. com).

Ploom Designs Sweet and Savory Identity for Personal Chef Service

Ploom Designs Sweet and Savory Identity for Personal Chef Service

Branding & Design Firm Helps to Brand Personal Chef Service

Providence, RI. (PRWEB) April 17, 2006

Ploom (www. ploom. com) recently combined creativity and science to design an unmistakable logo and identity for Boston's Sweet & Savory Personal Chef Services (www. sweetandsavorychef. com). Services provided by Ploom in its unique research-led design approach included Brand Positioning and Development, Identity Design, Design Research, Design Guidelines, and Stationery. Utilizing a thorough and distinctive research, testing and creative process founder and chief strategist Haig Bedrossian calls "plooming," the resulting identity includes a truly delectable logo, and colorful materials that are elegant yet instantly recognizable, incorporating a sense of sophistication as well as the taste, warmth and approachability so distinctive to Sweet & Savory.

Ploom's branding specialists began work by first determining how to best differentiate the service in what can be a crowded and competitive market. They first conducted a survey of 30 participants to assess how people typically view personal chef services, finding that most viewed them as a luxury service for special occasions, however that most respondents would also love to have the support in preparing dinners as their lives get more busy day by day. At the same time, they also undertook a detailed competitive audit of personal chef services in the Boston area, and determined that most such services either presented themselves as being very high-end (i. e. expensive) or conversely (especially among the startups) often came off as slightly amateurish.

Ploom's own conclusion after its analysis for Sweet & Savory was that, as founded by talented local chef Andrea Silver, it was a personal chef service with potential for greater accessibility than either of these, with a warm and personable style that was both sophisticated and approachable. "Our goal was to create a brand that was both sophisticated and playful, making it easy for people to approach this type of service as a viable and affordable new part of their lives," comments Ploom founder Haig Bedrossian. "However, we also didn't want to lose or underplay the importance of the superb quality of Sweet & Savory's services, so we maintained that as part of the positioning, as well. We achieved a balance by using the appropriate visual cues in the design. Certain visual elements trigger or cue a particular perception and meaning for people, so in some ways, we were more concerned with the response than the design itself."

Ploom's research-led approach to branding and identity was especially valuable on this project. Testing at various stages throughout the design process allowed the Ploom team to ensure that it was generating designs that resonated with audiences and clearly communicated what Sweet & Savory was all about. Because of this more analytical approach, the team was able to make subtle changes or revisions based upon survey feedback, ultimately refining and creating an identity that scored high with audience demographics of all types.

The resulting identity and associated logos and materials are as delectable as the food at Sweet & Savory -- fun, sophisticated, and instantly recognizable. With its stylized little figure of a "chef on the go," Sweet & Savory's look and feel incorporates both whimsy and elegance, with a striking logo, cool colors, and an uncluttered, spacious visual sophistication.

"In developing a logo and identity for my company, Haig first conducted a thorough research process, asking me a series of detailed questions about my services and the market I was trying to reach," comments Andrea Silver, founder of Savory & Sweet Personal Chef Services. "Using this questionnaire helped me to flesh out ideas for my company, and to think about how I wanted to be perceived by my clientele. Haig was able to then take my input and develop a logo that represented both sophistication and whimsy -- a sophisticated edge, without being too stuffy. The resulting logo is both memorable and fun."

About Sweet & Savory Personal Chef Services

After leaving the education field, Andrea Silver decided to fulfill her passion and entered the Boston University Culinary Arts Program, honing her skills and training in the intricate cooking techniques and methods used for a variety of cuisines. Andrea has since studied with some of the top professionals in the business, such as Jacques Pepin, Michael Schlow and Mary Ann Esposito. In founding Sweet & Savory Personal Chef Services, Andrea brings a special and affordable experience to her customers' tables, choosing the finest ingredients and preparing delicious meals for them to enjoy in their own homes. Whether to assist busy single professionals on the go, families or expectant mothers too busy to cook, or simply those desiring a delectable meal prepared for a special dinner event in-house, Sweet & Savory services can take place on a weekly, bi-monthly, monthly or on an as-needed basis. Sweet & Savory Personal Chef Services offer something for everyone, and will work with customers to create a service plan that fits their individual needs.

New Online Degree Completion Program Opens Doors for IS Professionals

Drexel University Online launches new BS to MS in Information Systems Degree Completion Program

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) June 18, 2010

Drexel University Online (http://drexelpr. com) has introduced a new Bachelor’s to Master’s in Information Systems degree completion program (http://www. drexel. com/online-degrees/information-sciences-degrees/bs-msis-completion/index. aspx). According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics survey for March 2010, for those 25 years and over, the number of people employed with a bachelor’s degree exceeded those with an associate’s degree. Drexel’s new degree program seeks to provide students who have an associate’s degree the credentials needed to qualify for those information systems positions requiring a bachelor’s degree.

Drexel’s program differs from traditional degree completion programs in that it allows students to work towards a master’s degree while completing a bachelor’s degree. Students earn a Bachelor’s in Information Systems and can then choose from a Master’s degree in Information Systems, Library and Information Science or Software Engineering. The program’s goal is to help professionals qualify for additional jobs, while preparing them for management positions.

Similar to Drexel’s other online degree offerings, the fully-accredited Bachelor’s to Master’s in Information Systems degree completion program is offered entirely online. The program was designed for professionals unable to commute to campus because of work, family or geographical constraints. Drexel Online students earn the same prestigious degree as on campus. Students can learn anytime and anywhere with 24/7 online access to class materials, group discussion, instructor feedback, and exams.

“We’re very proud to offer our students the outstanding Drexel curriculum within this convenient online format,” said Dr. Kenneth Hartman, academic director at Drexel University Online (http://www. drexelpr. com). “All of our online programs (http://www. drexelpr. com) – including the BS to MS in Information Systems degree completion program – are taught by the same renowned faculty as our campus courses.”

AIU Enters $8 Million Agreement for RWAN

As part of its development of an ultra high-speed Regional Wide Area Network (RWAN) for school districts, the Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU) has signed an $8 million master service agreement with two telecommunications companies for construction and Internet services. As part of the agreement, Expedient Communciations to provide Internet and hosting services.

Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) February 29, 2008

As part of its development of an ultra high-speed Regional Wide Area Network (RWAN) for school districts, the Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU) has signed an $8 million master service agreement with two telecommunications companies for construction and Internet services.

Expedient Communications, a leading provider of data center and managed data network services for local business customers in Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Boston, will provide Internet and hosting services from its Green Tree facility while Sunesys, a Warrington, Pa.-based telecommunications company, will build approximately 130 miles of the network's physical structure.

School district technology directors are scheduled to tour the facilities at Expedient Communications' Green Tree facility, Parish St. on Monday, March 3, at 1:00 p. m.

The RWAN, which will connect 41 school districts, four vo-tech schools and the AIU, will provide about 100 times more broadband capacity while reducing Internet service fees. Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring, and 18 districts will be connected to the network by September 2008. Since January, school boards across Allegheny County have passed resolutions authorizing the AIU to enter the master service agreement on their behalf.

The new RWAN will increase school network communication speeds from 10 to 1,000 megabits per second, and will enable districts to connect to each other, to schools across the state and to Internet2. This new network is essentially a paradigm shift, and will expand educational possibilities for teachers, administrators and students.

In December the AIU was awarded a three-year, $2.35 million state E-Fund grant for RWAN development. Federal E-Rate funding is pending.

About the Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU):
The Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU) is a branch of the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The agency, which employs 2,200 educators at 721 sites throughout Allegheny County, operates 11 family centers, three schools for exceptional children, and provides specialized education services to 42 suburban school districts. They will take a Leadership Quotient (LQ) assessment to measure their leadership capabilities, which includes feedback from their manager, direct reports, and peers. SharedHR (sharedhr. com (http://www. sharedhr. com)), an HR outsourcing, consulting and technology firm, today announced alliances with Triad Consultants (triadcon. com (http://www. triadcon. com)), an employee and vendor screening firm, and HR Integrations (hrintegrations. com (http://www. hrintegrations. com)), a provider of Web-based integration for HR vendors. The relationship allows SharedHR clients to easily order background checks and drug screens on potential employees and vendors, through HR Integration’s HRNX Hub and Widget which seamlessly and securely connects the two companies online.

SharedHR clients can now pre-select a package of background checks online, by position level, ranging from basic Social Security Number, credit report and driving record searches to a wide range of criminal checks, educational verification, civil and bankruptcy court, drug screens and more. The information, once researched and compiled by Triad, is then transmitted to the appropriate hiring manager or HR contact securely online through SharedHR. SharedHR provides tools and flexible processes for hiring and on-boarding (including the required background check releases). The ability to pass data already in the SharedHR system directly to Triad further streamlines the hiring process.

“Integrated background checks and screening is another important puzzle piece to add to the SharedHR platform. Leveraging Web 2.0 tools to facilitate partner integrations is exactly the kind of relationship that continues to help us bring real value to our clients,” said Paul Finkle, CEO of SharedHR. “Our clients want to be able to conduct all the business of HR seamlessly and securely online and these two providers represent the perfect partners to get the job done quickly and cost effectively without complex technical integrations. This milestone sets the stage for what we hope to be multiple partner integrations to complement the SharedHR platform using the HRNX widget.”

“This strategic alliance with SharedHR will significantly benefit our mutual clients by offering an outstanding compliance and HR management platform as well as reducing their overall cost/time-to-hire,” said Brian Williamson, President, Triad Consultants.

“The seamless electronic exchange of data via HR/Integrations’ HRNX platform will provide SharedHR clients unfettered access first to background checks and drug screens through Triad and later to other of HR systems (ATS, E-Learning, and ERP) that would otherwise be cost-prohibitive due to the complexity of one off, vendor by vendor, technical integration requirements”, said Paul Mladineo, Co-Founder and President HR Integrations.

Lorenti Strives to Bring Interpreters Together on First Cruise to Alaska

Lorenti Strives to Bring Interpreters Together on First Cruise to Alaska

First ever interpreters-only cruise to ALaska in 2006

Faribault, MN (PRWEB) September 8, 2005

Attending an interpreting workshop, and then dashing off to climb a few glaciers, going for a dip in the Jacuzzi, perhaps even with a margarita in hand all within one location… Seems a bit off the wall? Not really, says Emilia Lorenti, a New York City interpreter. “It’s really difficult for interpreters to take time off to go on a vacation because they depend on their interpreting incomes, and because they usually have used up all of their vacation time for interpreting-related conferences and workshop. So this cruise is a perfect solution.”

Lorenti is the brainchild behind CruisEUs, a cruise that will provide a workshop series onboard along with social and entertainment opportunities on a cruise to Alaska on June 30-July 7, 2006.

“While at a conference, I was thinking that after the second day I had already seen everything. And since I do send a lot of interpreters to interpret on cruises, I thought – hey, why not put the two together? Interpreters could visit a different location each day and earn continuing education units (CEUs) while being with their families and friends at the same time,” Lorenti says.

And out of this idea came CruisEUs. Lorenti has been interpreting for 19 years, and has attended plenty of conferences to know what works and what doesnÂ’t. So sheÂ’s brought in dynamic workshop presenters.

Presenters include Peter Cook, Byron Bridges, Crom Saunders, and Lynne Wiesman. “We decided to bring in a mixture of deaf and hearing presenters because we know many interpreters have significant others who are also deaf, and then we of course wanted to present a bilingual approach to our workshops,” Lorenti explains. “But for those who want to attend the cruise but not participate in the workshop package, they can do this as well by earning independent study credits.”

Younger cruise-goers haven’t been forgotten, either.. “The cruise offers activities at no additional cost for children, including an ocean program for kids aged 3-17,” Lorenti says. “So this is really an opportunity for all to go, exchange ideas and experiences as working interpreters, and then go on land trips with families and friends.”

200 cabins aboard the Royal CaribbeanÂ’s VISION OF THE SEAS have been booked, and full accommodations will be provided for those who need assistive devices. More information is available at www. cruiseus. net.

“I think it’s going to be a wonderful combination of work, learning, and play for our interpreters,” Lorenti said. “I’m really hoping that this will be a major success, and that it’s the first of many cruises to come for our profession. Besides, being in workshops among the mountains and glaciers of Alaska – what more could you ask for?”

Study Shows Singles are Thriving in New Haven - Destination Named One of the Best Places to Live for Singles

According to a recent study conducted by Money magazine* on the 'Best Places to Live,' single residents in New Haven are on the rise. Centrally located in the Northeast corridor between New York and Boston, singles are taking note of New Haven's urban revival. Within the last ten years, the destination has witnessed a sharp increase in single residents, with many living and working in the downtown area.

New Haven, Conn. (PRWEB) August 15, 2008

According to a recent study conducted by Money magazine* on the 'Best Places to Live,' single residents in New Haven (http://www. infonewhaven. com) are on the rise. Centrally located in the Northeast corridor between New York and Boston, singles are taking note of New Haven's urban revival. Within the last ten years, the destination has witnessed a sharp increase in single residents, with many living and working in the downtown area. Today, more than 40 percent of New Haven's total population is comprised of young singles. Exciting downtown developments, access to higher education, proximity to major corporations as well as a vibrant arts and culture scene were among the top reasons named for the shift, deeming New Haven one of the best places for singles to live in the United States.

"Downtown New Haven offers singles a vibrant community that includes big city amenities from award-winning restaurants to world-class culture, while still retaining its New England charm," Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. said. "The lure of singles to New Haven speaks to the city's renaissance and commitment to making the city a great place to live, work and play."

More than 130 businesses have recently opened in and around downtown New Haven, including restaurants, retail stores, museums and cultural and entertainment attractions. While more than 3,720 housing units are currently available, a wave of single residents has created demand for additional housing. More than 1,000 new housing units are on the horizon, including 360 State Street -- proposed to be a LEED Silver project -- that will house 450 luxury and 50 affordable housing units and an urban grocery store such as Trader Joe's.

Another top selling point for singles is the number of area employers who offer homebuyer programs, where first-time buyers can receive up to $30,000 toward the purchase of a home. According to Zillow. com, a leading online real estate service, New Haven property value still shows a stronger appreciation rate (188 percent over the past ten years) when compared to the rest of the country and in terms of depreciation, has been less impacted by the recent recessive trend in the housing market.

There are more than 15 colleges, universities and professional schools located within a 30-mile radius of downtown New Haven, in addition to 11 junior colleges and technical institutes. Yale University, Southern Connecticut State University, Gateway Community College and Albertus Magnus College are among the top schools that add to the city's vibrant academic environment. Beyond education, New Haven's academic institutions have also played a crucial role in downtown development, from the creation of new jobs and community services to placing the city as well as its workforce on the international map.

Several leading state and global companies are based in New Haven, including Yale University, Yale-New Haven Hospital, Hospital of St. Raphael, AT&T and the world headquarters of the Knights of Columbus. These companies have not only generated openings within the life sciences, medical services and biotechnology industries, but they have also spurred emerging sectors such as technology-intensive businesses and firms that support biotech operations. New Haven is also home to a considerable number of world-renowned architecture firms, like Pelli Clarke Pelli and Newman Architects, as well as nationally recognized law firms, such as Wiggin & Dana and Withers Bergman. These firms attract young, new talent to the city every year. Additionally, more than 20 Fortune 500 companies are located within less than an hour's drive from New Haven. Future employment opportunities include a $500 million Yale-New Haven Cancer Center, the newest of 41 research centers in the county.

For single residents, the city's most commendable attribute is it burgeoning arts, culture and culinary scene. The city is home to a number of world-renowned museums such as The Peabody Museum of Natural History, The Yale University Art Gallery, Yale Center for British Art and City-Wide Open Studios (CWOS), a resource that unites hundreds of local artists and allows visitors to discover new artists, purchase art and explore gallery shows of the city. For a more intimate experience, the city is also brimming with art galleries featuring seasonal events and apprenticeship programs. New Haven's thriving theater scene includes one of the most historic Broadway theaters in the United States, The Shubert Theater and the tony-award wining Long Wharf Theater that soon will be relocating into downtown. New Haven singles can also enjoy an unparalleled collection of world cuisine on nearly every downtown block.

"As a single person I certainly looked into the social scene and overall quality of life before deciding where I wanted to live," said Chris Laconte, director of business development at Higher One. "In New Haven, I'm at a prestigious company in a city where I'm constantly meeting new people and where the social scene is welcoming and diverse. With so many bars, restaurants, cultural activities and so many young professionals involved in everything, there's no such thing as a boring moment in New Haven. I'm glad I chose to live and work here."

1st Annual American High School Internet Mathematics Competition Begins Monday, September 13

1st Annual American High School Internet Mathematics Competition Begins Monday, September 13

The inaugural American High School Internet Mathematics Competition, the first competitive high school academic event to rely on the use of the internet, will take place the week of September 13-17, 2004. The event is free to all participating students and schools and features thousands of the nationÂ’s top high school math students.

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) August 10, 2004

The inaugural American High School Internet Mathematics Competition (“AHSIMC”), the first competitive high school academic event to rely on the use of the internet, will take place the week of September 13-17, 2004.

The event, free to all participating students and schools, will feature thousands of the nationÂ’s top high school math students.

The AHSIMC was founded by Bradley Metrock, a current Vanderbilt University business school student who participated in competitive mathematic events while in high school.

“The American High School Internet Mathematics Competition is an example of how technology will help level the playing field between the ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’ of our educational system,” Metrock said. “Because the AHSIMC is completely free to students, teachers, and their schools, all of our nation’s children can access the elite world of competitive mathematics through the internet.”

The start-up competition has been embraced by both students and educators alike, including Cindy O’Brien, a math teacher at Haltom High School in Fort Worth, Texas. “For us, the AHSIMC represents a chance to benchmark our high school against the rest of the United States, while giving us a powerful tool to strengthen our mathematics curriculum,” O’Brien remarked.

Teams of up to five students will receive the test, via email, at noon (CST) on Monday, September 13. Teams, after working both at school and at home on the contest throughout the week, must email back their completed exams by noon (CST) on Friday, September 17 to be graded.

Ben Cortopassi, AHSIMC Vice-President and Director of Testing, believes the competition will appeal to established math team programs, as well as newcomers to the competitive math world. Cortopassi explains, "The AHSIMC provides an introduction to competitive mathematics, while simultaneously challenging the brightest math students in the United States."

A follow-up national press release will announce the winners of the 2004 AHSIMC Exam on Monday, November 1, at 8 AM (CST). The winning teamÂ’s members will each receive a video game system, while both the winning teamÂ’s members and runner-up teamÂ’s members will receive commemorative plaques. Certificates are given to the remainder of the top 5% of participating teams, and additional awards will be presented to the winning teamÂ’s faculty sponsor and school.

[For additional information or interview requests, contact Bradley Metrock by phone at (205) 531 3247 from 9 AM to 7 PM Central Standard Time, or email him directly at Bradley@AHSIMC. com. The AHSIMC will make every effort to accommodate members of the media seeking information regarding a story or feature about the upcoming 2004 Exam.]

Endicott College Joins SAGE's Tuition Rewards Program

Endicott College Joins SAGE's Tuition Rewards Program

Endicott College, in Massachusetts, has joined the SAGE Scholars Tuition Rewards Program, the nation's first college savings program devoted exclusively to private colleges and universities.

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) August 24, 2005

SAGE Scholars has added another school to its consortium of private colleges and universities that reward families for saving for college. Endicott College, which was recently ranked in the top tier of “Best Comprehensive Colleges-Bachelors” by US News & World Reports, is the 174th school nationally to join SAGE’s Tuition Rewards Program.

SAGE is exceptionally pleased to have Endicott participate in its conglomerate. Dr James Johnston, SAGE’s Founder and President, stated “SAGE is focusing a lot of our attention on the recruitment of schools. Specifically, we’re trying to attract a greater number of New England private schools to our program and Endicott’s participation will help increase the recognition of the quality of schools in SAGE.” SAGE appears to be gaining presence in Massachusetts; Endicott is joining Clark University, a major research institute and a long standing member of the Tuition Rewards program, as well as Becker College and Gordon College in SAGE.

The Tuition Rewards Program has grown by leaps and bounds since 2002 when college savings entered the American mainstream. “We’ve seen our number of participating students nearly triple” Dr. Johnston stated. “We currently have over 77,000 students in the Tuition Rewards Program. Ultimately, we want to encourage enough families to save and plan for higher education costs that our member schools will have access to a database of students that will number in the hundreds-of-thousands, if not millions.”

More about Tuition Rewards: SAGE’s Tuition Rewards Program uniquely brings together families, investment companies and private colleges and universities to encourage college savings. Families earn Tuition Rewards by investing with SAGE’s Financial Partners and use Tuition Reward by sending their children to participating schools. SAGE’s Financial Partners are responsible for helping families earn Tuition Rewards by offering the Program on specific investment vehicles and accounts. Member Colleges and Universities realize that to remain affordable, they have to encourage families to “do the right thing,” which is to save for college; offering Tuition Rewards is how SAGE’s colleges do this.

SAGEÂ’s consortium of Financial Partners and schools has grown in recent years to include nationally recognized institutions, including DePaul University, Allianz, Beloit College, Monetta Funds, Drexel University, Horace Mann Insurance, Creighton University, Ziegler Brokers, St. Lawrence University and Asset Marketing Systems.

Dr. Johnston finished by saying “SAGE's goal is to grow our program.” With the addition of Endicott College, Dr. Johnston and SAGE are well on their way.

Alternative University Breaks Down Educational Barriers for Hispanic Community

Alternative University Breaks Down Educational Barriers for Hispanic Community

National American University (NAU), a fully accredited, four-year university with bachelor's, associate and master's level degrees, is working to reduce the barriers between higher education and the Hispanic community in Austin. By offering flexible, new programs like Applied Management, traditional obstacles are being replaced with a fresh, alternative approach towards getting a college degree.

Austin, TX (PRWEB) February 26, 2008

National American University (NAU), a fully accredited, four-year university with bachelor's, associate and master's level degrees, is working to reduce the barriers between higher education and the Hispanic community in Austin. By offering flexible, new programs like Applied Management, traditional obstacles are being replaced with a fresh, alternative approach towards getting a college degree.

Statistics show that only 13 percent of Hispanic Texans have an associates degree or higher. Common barriers to getting a college degree include the need to maintain employment for income, family responsibilities and scheduling conflicts. Additionally, as a majority-minority state, low enrollment in higher education among Hispanic Texans will impact all Texans. Lower education can result in reduced income, fewer job opportunities and lower quality care for families.

NAU is seeking to remove the barriers to higher education through flexibility and personal attention. "Austinites are fortunate, because they are surrounded by quality educational institutions. That said, NAU has the history and experience as a higher education institution to know that some populations are still not being served by traditional college options. By opening our new campus and offering the type of flexible programs we do, we're going to give more people the ability to earn their college degree and create a better life for their family," stated J. P. Foley, Regional Vice President of National American University.

According to the Pew Hispanic Center based in Washington, D. C., many Latinos attempt to get their college degree but drop out before finishing. Encouragement is especially essential in keeping students enrolled who have a lot of outside responsibilities. At NAU, student support begins at registration. Each student has a personal Career Coach to help with the enrollment process, filling out required forms and to assist in transferring credits. This level of personal attention alleviates anxiety and moves students through the enrollment process easily so they can focus on their courses.

"I've wanted to get my college degree for a long time, but I had several concerns. I couldn't afford to stop working, and my schedule was already hectic. I chose NAU, because the staff is very accessible, and I can keep earning an income. It feels so good to finally be doing this," stated Michael Leising.

National American University is changing the educational landscape with its fresh perspective. Austin students are able to take their courses in the classroom or online, reducing schedule conflicts. The flexibility of the degree programs also makes it easier to plan schoolwork around students' lives, rather than the other way around. Further, NAU students are able to continue their careers while simultaneously attending college.

Utilizing the Applied Management program, students are even turning their workplace experience into educational credit. Today, with military and civil service servants investing extensive hours in career training, the Applied Management program can reduce the time and financial commitments involved in obtaining a college degree by converting the experience into college hours.

National American University recently launched their first classes in Austin. NAU is already attracting the attention of many Austinites, including Hispanic working professionals and stay-at-home parents who have long seen the value in having their college degree but felt overwhelmed by the traditional commitment and requirements of going back to school.

With 66 years of academic expertise, National American University holds equivalent accreditation standards as state universities like The University of Texas at Austin or Texas A&M, which are members of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. With its first campus and central administrative offices located in South Dakota, NAU is also regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

About National American University (NAU):
National American University (NAU) is a fully accredited, four-year university granting degrees on the bachelor's, associate and master's level. NAU's mission is to assist non-traditional students in earning their degrees within the accountability of a private, for - profit educational setting.

2 New Free Reports Help Burn Belly Fat Without Wasting Money On Ab Machines

2 New Free Reports Help Burn Belly Fat Without Wasting Money On Ab Machines

John Davenport, the creator of the Burn My Belly Fat website, is now offering 2 Free diet and fitness reports to help men and women lose stomach fat and get flat abs. In addition, the website includes updated information on ab machines and exposes which infomercials are true and which paint an unrealistic picture.

Garfield, NJ (PRWEB) July 6, 2009

Noted health and fitness author, John Davenport, creator of the Emotional Eating Solution program (http://emotionaleatingsolution. com), has announced the release of 2 Free diet and fitness reports which can be found on this page: How to Burn Belly Fat Fast (http://burnmybellyfat. com).
The 2 guides are meant to help men and women create a healthy lifestyle and get flat abs in the process.

This is part of the expansion of his http://BurnMyBellyFat. com (http://BurnMyBellyFat. com) website which provides extensive nutrition and exercise information for people who wish to lose stomach fat and get flat abs.

It contains answers to the most pressing questions people have about how to really shed fat from their midsection, what to eat and when, how to workout, and which products work and which are a waste of money.

"There is so much misinformation floating around about how to really get sexy abs that I knew I had to do something to get the right information in front of people, " Says John Davenport, weight loss researcher and author. "Much of this misinformation is simply outdated, but some of it is actually distributed by unscrupulous marketers or by people posing as experts.

"For instance, one of the common questions I get is how you can get a flat stomach in 2 weeks (http://burnmybellyfat. com/how-to-get-a-flat-stomach-in-2-weeks. html). This is impossible of course, especially if you have a lot of excess weight to lose, yet many products do make such claims."

"The trouble people have in finding quality information is causing a lot of people to make bad choices which may cost them a lot of money and contribute nothing whatsoever to the results they see at the end of the day. People spend so much time and effort to flatten their stomach but never see results. There's no shortage of willpower. It is lack of the proper knowledge which stops people from seeing results.

"The 2 Free guides are just the beginning of an education process which each and every one of us must go through in order to take control of his or her habits, learn how to work with our body and not against it, and create the right lifestyle for long term health and fitness results."

The Burn My Belly Fat website contains information on a variety of topics and is being updated regularly. Among the many articles there is a section on which Cardio workouts burn belly fat (http://burnmybellyfat. com/cardio-workouts-for-abs. html) the best and what is the most effective way to do them. It is also possible to learn correct nutrition guidelines and motivational tips.

But what is even more interesting is that John Davenport decided to make a specific section about ab machines.

"I see many infomercials for ab machines, " said John Davenport. "It seems that you can't turn on the TV without seeing one or another. Some of these machines do have merit, but often the infomercials tend to stretch the truth, emphasizing good points and not mentioning bad ones. This is advertisement and I have no problem with that, but I want people to get the complete picture before spending $200 or more of their hard earned money.

"The key is to provide a detailed review of the good and bad things about the most popular abs machines and to offer alternatives which may be more effective and affordable."

2 examples of heavily advertised machines which are discussed in detail can be found on these pages: Ab Circle Pro Review (http://burnmybellyfat. com/ab-circle-pro-review. html) and Ab Coaster Review (http://burnmybellyfat. com/ab-coster-review. html).

"Losing all your excess belly fat isn't an easy process and will take time. However, you can get excellent results with the right attitude, the right mindset, and the right information. This is what I am trying to teach people."

About John Davenport:

John Davenport was overweight from an early age and struggled with emotional eating and weight for the better part of his life. Then, a few years ago, he decided to transform his life, and began actively researching exercise, nutrition, and the emotional sides of fat loss and fitness.
Through trial and error and sheer determination, he achieved the results he had always dreamed about.

"No one can burn the fat for you," says John Davenport, author and researcher, "but I can certainly give you the necessary push to make the first step in this process."

After losing over 30 pounds of fat, John Davenport decided to take it one step further and took up long distance running. He now enjoys running so much that he frequently does half marathons, while he had trouble completing a 2 mile jog just a few short years ago.

John Davenport states that his mission in life is to help more people lose weight, become fit, and enjoy a healthier lifestyle. He has written several hundred articles on health and fitness issues which appear on numerous websites.

"Diets often fail because most weight gain comes from an unhealthy emotional dependence on food," Says John Davenport, who recently wrote a special program on how to stop emotional eating and Overcome binge eating (http://emotionaleatingsolution. com). This program not only shares his story but includes a variety of methods in which you can develop a much healthier relationship with food.

"95% of diets fail. Even if people do lose weight, they gain it all back again," John Davenport claims. He continues to provide information for people from many countries around the world. His latest ebook, Maintain Don't Gain teaches people how to maintain their weight (http://maintaindontgain. com) for many years.
