Worried About Paying For Your ChildÂ’s College Education? You Could Start A Trust Fund, Get A Part-Time JobÂ

Or Shop For Car Insurance

"Insure Our Future" Provides A Way To Start Your ChildÂ’s College Fund

Mayfield Village, OH, March 6, 2000 – For many parents, the thought of funding their child’s college education occurs as early as the time of birth, sometimes even the moment of conception. If you think you can’t possibly save enough to fund your children’s college education, think again. The money could be right in front of you – in the form of your auto insurance premium.

Progressive Insurance has announced a program, "Insure Our Future," designed to help consumers better understand the savings available to them if they only shopped around for their auto insurance. The fact is rates vary widely. The potential savings are enough to significantly contribute to a childÂ’s education. Details of the program can be found on progressive. com.

ProgressiveÂ’s research shows that the average difference between the highest and lowest auto insurance premium available to the same consumer from different companies is $522 every six months.

In a consumer survey, more than half of the participants believed that if they shopped around for auto insurance and received several different prices, the difference between the highest and lowest price would be $200 or less for a six-month rate. Only seven and a half percent of the participants thought that the difference could be $500 or more for a six-month rate.

In addition, only 30 percent of the participants in the survey said they shopped around to compare auto insurance rates in the past 12 months; nearly half of all of consumers surveyed had not shopped around to compare rates, either by contacting an insurance company or an agent, in more than two years.

Most consumers donÂ’t understand that they may be leaving money on the table by not shopping around for auto insurance.

If a person shopped for auto insurance and realized savings equal to the average variance every six months and put this ‘found money’ ($522) into an interest-bearing account (averaging 6 percent interest compounded annually), in 18 years, the savings on auto insurance would accrue to more than $34,000 (without considering taxes). This could be a big step towards paying for the college education for the more than 15 million American children under the age of three.

"People donÂ’t realize that they can save a significant amount of money by simply shopping around," says Dave Pratt, Director of Marketing, Progressive. "People shop for prices on cars, houses, even airline tickets and groceries. But people rarely consider shopping for car insurance. Shopping for auto insurance and putting away the savings is the perfect way to start a college fund, or any other type of savings plan."

Pratt said: "We realize that shopping for auto insurance is not something that every one is used to doing. If you need help in understanding insurance terms and how to shop, Progressive has a free brochure available called "Insure Our Future: How to Shop for Auto Insurance." To request a copy, log on to progressive. com and go to "Insure Our Future" or send your name and address to: Insure Our Future, PO Box 94661, Cleveland, Ohio, 44101.

The Progressive study involved 140,801 consumers who used Progressive’s unique auto insurance comparison rate service between July 1, 1999 and December 31, 1999. By calling 1-800-AUTO-PRO® or logging onto progressive. com, consumers can compare auto insurance rates available to them from up to four of the largest auto insurers in the country. The average variance, or the difference between the highest and lowest auto insurance premium available to the same consumer from different companies, is $522 every six months.

"Remember Santa Claus in ‘Miracle on 34th Street’?" Pratt said. "He told people to go to competing stores where he knew specific toys were less expensive. That’s what our rate comparison service is all about. We’ll tell you which company has lower rates. We want consumers to save money on their auto insurance."

When shopping, consider calling a company direct, or visiting an Independent Agent. Many consumers prefer to work with Independent Agents, who typically represent multiple insurance companies, because Independent Agents can shop around on behalf of a consumer and provide in-person service. Local listings of agents can be found in the Yellow Pages, or by using the "Find an Agent" function on progressive. com.

Progressive Insurance (NYSE:PGR), headquartered in Mayfield Village, Ohio, is one of the nation's largest auto insurers. In business since 1937, the company provides all drivers with competitive rates and 24-hour, in-person services. The company sells its products over the phone (1-800-AUTO-PRO), on the Internet at progressive. com and through more than 30,000 Independent Agents throughout the U. S. LiveTime’s Java-Based Help Desk, Customer Service and Support Software Earns Top Grades from Educators

LiveTime streamlines support services for complex campus environments.

Newport Beach, CA (PRWEB) October 17, 2005

LiveTime Software, a leading provider of J2EE (http://www. livvetime. com) based help desk (http://www. livetime. com) and support desk (http://www. livetime. com) automation software, continues to gain popularity with CIO and CTO’s of education institutions due to its vendor neutral and flexible approach. LiveTime’s fully web-based solution is increasingly selected by leading educators to streamline support services within their complex environments.

LiveTime Help Desk makes delivery of IT services easy with its rapid, synchronized integration with LDAP and Active Directory servers. “The AD integration is comprehensive and very straightforward to configure, with the help of the well prepared documentation,” said Dan Shyne, Computer Network Manager, Enlarged City School District of Troy, NY. "It is clear that LiveTime really understands the processes and issues we confront, and their own technical support department has proven to be quite knowledgeable and well prepared to diagnose and remedy the technical issues that we've faced during our ongoing implementation phase."

Ken Chitwood, Web Systems Administrator for the Technology Department at Wilson County Schools, is impressed by LiveTime’s problem management capabilities. “The ability to configure problem types for each item greatly enhances the quality of calls submitted and entered into the system, and makes it easier for people to submit calls,” he said. “And I am extremely impressed by the new view filters, which greatly speeds our prioritization and auditing of incidents in the system.”

LiveTime’s Asset Management (http://www. livetime. com) tools make a real difference to the productivity of the team at the University of Northern British Colombia. “This functionality gives our support technicians immediate access to the most up-to-date information about all our users and their assets, and the entire configuration process was done in a day,” said Trevor Fuson, Systems Analyst at UNBC after migrating to LiveTime Help Desk version 3.6. “Once again, LiveTime has delivered an amazing product.”

Dr George Vossos, Chief Technology Officer for LiveTime Software maintains the overwhelming adoption of LiveTime by education users results from LiveTime’s pragmatic approach to service management. “At LiveTime, we understand the challenges facing educational institutions as they strive to increase service response levels in a decentralized and complex IT environment. SAFE launches "Say YES to Italy" campaign

SAFE launches "Say YES to Italy" campaign

SAFE -- Saving Antiquities for Everyone (savingantiquities. org) announces the launch of the Say YES to Italy campaign to support Italy's request for renewal of bilateral agreement to restrict importation of antiquities into the US.

Jersey City, N. J. (PRWEB) August 12, 2005

With only a few weeks left until the Cultural Property Advisory Committee (CPAC) decides whether to renew a bilateral agreement that protects ItalyÂ’s cultural heritage, the organization SAFE | Saving Antiquities for Everyone (savingantiquities. org) announces the launch of the Say YES to Italy campaign.

“We appeal to everyone, particularly Italian Americans, to support Italy by sending a letter using the contact information provided on the SAFE website”, says SAFE president Cindy Ho “We intend to testify in Washington and show that Americans do care about preserving global heritage with thousands of signatures to convince the State Department that the bilateral agreement must be renewed.”

The looting of archaeological sites around the world has grown dramatically in the last several decades. Artifacts dug up from the ground are fast disappearing into the multi-billion dollar black market antiquities trade.

“Ancient artifacts are the building blocks of human history. But the information they contain about how our ancestors lived can only be obtained through systematic archaeological study. When an object is looted, all of the information it contained, and its relationship to everything that surrounded it is lost forever. Looting and the illicit antiquities trade have put the world’s shared cultural heritage in serious danger,” continues Ho.

In addition to the letter writing campaign, SAFE presented Say YES to Italy at the Festa Italiana in Sacramento, California. During the Italian food and music festival, on Saturday August 6 and 7, SAFE reached out to northern CaliforniaÂ’s Italian community.

Supporters of the cause are encouraged to wear the red I Say YES to Italy wristbands to show solidarity and help raise further awareness. Available for purchase at $1, proceeds will help send delegates to Washington.

About SAFE

Presenting Poetry At Its Hippest During AileyCamp Boston Summer Camp Session

Presenting Poetry At Its Hippest During AileyCamp Boston Summer Camp Session

Poet ‘Mr. Culture’ Ome’kongo Dibinga joins dance troop’s annual camp to deliver poetry to children. Among the pirouettes and pointes, children are sure to learn about stanzas and sonnets at the AileyCamp Boston, which introduces a new two-week poetry series as part of its popular yearly six-week summer camp.

Boston, MA. (PRWEB) July 14, 2005

Ome’kongo Dibinga, an educator, activist and spoken word artist also known as ‘Mr. Culture’ will introduce poetry in partnership with the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater and Bank of America at AileyCamp Boston when the 2005 summer camp season begins this week at the Boston Renaissance Charter School, 250 Stuart Street.

For some, the experience of hearing, writing, reciting, and examining poetry, will be the campers’ first foray into reading lyrical prose and speaking poetic language as a form of self expression. The poet selected to deliver the poetry component is Ome’kongo Dibinga, an educator, activist and spoken word artist also known as ‘Mr. Culture’ for his poetry performances in English, French, and Swahili and for his broad range of poetry written with African and African American history and experiences imbued within his writings. Dibinga anticipates delivering a two-week series which will be an affirming and life long appreciation for poetry for the students, so much so that each child who completes the camp will leave with a new perspective about how to view situations and opportunities and with a fresh perspective not always evident in popular culture and entertainment packaged for children and teens. Dibinga, whose resume and accomplishments belies his 29 years with bachelor and master degrees under his belt and recently accepted as a PhD student, leverages his own youthful experiences and love for poetry to discourse on political and current events in beat and tone that children and teens will resonate with and find meaningful.

“Poetry can be expressed in as many ways as there are expressions,” Dibinga said. “My way of expressing myself is through rhythmic prose often using music to deliver some strong messages many of our emerging poets are writing and speaking about in the ‘New Poetry Movement,’ meaning that poetry in the 21st century is just as lyrical as the more traditional poets like Yeats or Whitman were," said Dibinga. “My poetry is all about those same qualities, and the passion. When honesty and clarity are present in the context of current issues and conditions, then everyone can relate, especially our young people who have an important stake in the future, but few outlets to express them in a way which is holistic and affirming,” he said.

DibingaÂ’s camp curriculum will cover use of language as a means of thought, creativity, reflection, learning and self expression. It also will equip students to know how to tap into language as a tool for personal growth, social interaction and for developing relationships within the communities in which they live.

AileyCamp Boston is sponsored by the Bank of AmericaÂ’s, Celebrity Series, an education and community service program that brings a variety of national and international talent from theater, dance, classical and jazz music, directly to students from public school each summer throughout the country.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to be part of an incredible organization like Alvin Ailey Theater, and impart my life around poetry to young people,” Dibinga added.

About the poet:

Ome’kongo Dibinga (www. omekongo. com) is an activist, educator, spoken word artist and Founder and CEO of Free Your Mind Publishing in Boston. Ome’kongo is a first generation Congolese-American who writes and performs poetry in English, French and Swahili and has occasionally used Wolof in his writings. Kapil Dev & Steve Waugh Bat For Tsunami Victims In Sri Lanka

Kapil Dev & Steve Waugh Bat For Tsunami Victims In Sri Lanka

Sports to help restore normalcy to lives of children from Seeningami village

Sumner, MI (PRWEB) December 25, 2005

Cricketing legends Kapil Dev from India and Steve Waugh from Australia, two of the biggest all-rounders the game has ever seen, joined hands to play for the children of the tsunami-affected village of Seenigama, near Galle in Sri Lanka. The players launched a new project, aimed at helping the victims.

The project in Sri Lanka is the 39th project of its kind launched under the aegis of the Laureus World Sports Academy backed by DaimlerChrysler and Richemont Group, both keen supporters of such causes through Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.

Kapil Dev and Steve Waugh recently visited the tsunami-affected village of Seenigama engaging young boys and girls, aged six and above, in various inter-village sports leagues with friendly matches and training sessions. The project aims to involve an estimated 800 participants in such activities and seeks to use sport as a means to support the region in its healing process and restore community spirit.

During the visit, Kapil Dev and Steve Waugh, both members of the Laureus World Sports Academy, took part in a cricket match with the children, much to the excitement of these youngsters. A large crowd if villagers who are now recovering from trauma, watched them as the children enjoyed their game with these accomplished cricketers.

Indian cricket legend Kapil Dev is an enthusiastic supporter of the underprivileged young in his own country said: “The tsunami left a trail of destruction in the whole of South East Asia and the Indian subcontinent. Now almost a year later when major relief agencies are winding down their work, organisations such as Laureus will have to step in to do what they can to help in rebuilding. Sport is a wonderful means to achieve this as it is the key to creating team spirit and unity of purpose.”

For Australia’s most successful cricket captain Steve Waugh, it was a very emotional moment. He was named the newest Laureus World Sports Academy member in Sydney on December 2, and within days he was in Sri Lanka for the launch of a Laureus project.

“I was delighted to be invited to become a Laureus Academy member and doubly delighted to get down to work for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Achievements on the sporting field are great, but it’s only a game. Real achievement is in helping people in situations like this. I know this is what all my fellow Laureus Academy members believe,” Waugh remarked.

“Despite the dreadful images on television immediately after the disaster, I don’t think people in the western world could fathom how traumatic the events of December 26 could have been for those in Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Thailand. It makes us more determined to do what we can to help these youngsters. Many have lost family members and friends and this will always be in their memory. But we can try to restore some degree of normality to their lives,” added Waugh.

Sport is an ideal medium to tackle a wide range of social issues and generate a positive impact. The benefits sports could bring to the region are immense.

Sports can help in building leadership and teamwork skills, introducing stability and a sense of enjoyment, increasing confidence and participation of girls in community planning, increasing collaboration and information sharing amongst the villagers involved and facilitate the post-tsunami healing process to continue.

One of the key objectives of the scheme is to increase participation and interaction amongst the people of Seenigama and its surrounding villages.

The Laureus project will gradually expand to cover more organised sports including volleyball, cricket, badminton, swimming, football, cross-country race and table tennis. This will also be linked to the other critical elements of rebuilding – medical care, family support and educational activities.

DaimlerChrysler and Richemont, the Founding Patrons of the Academy, underwrite and stage the Laureus World Sports Awards and provide core funding for Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.

The Helen Doron Group Presents Baby’s Best Start -– An Interactive Baby and Parent Course

The Helen Doron Group Presents Baby’s Best Start -– An Interactive Baby and Parent Course

The Helen Doron Group, international leader in educational programs for children, announces the launch of Baby’s Best Start, an interactive course for infants, ages 3-18 months. Baby’s Best Start is the newest addition to the internationally acclaimed Helen Doron Early English programs.

(PRWEB) August 25, 2006

The Helen Doron Group, international leader in educational programs for children, announces the launch of Baby’s Best Start, an interactive course for infants, ages 3-18 months. Baby’s Best Start is the newest addition to the internationally acclaimed Helen Doron Early English programs.

This unique course was created to enrich the parent-baby relationship through loving, nurturing and vital developmental activities. Infants and parents together learn songs, activities, chants, rhymes, musical styles and rhythms, practical early child education facts and applications. This specially designed course promotes bonding, while enhancing the child's emotional, mental and physical development. The music for the course was specifically arranged for this purpose and features ethnic music from a variety of different cultures.

Baby’s Best Start emphasizes the importance of positive reinforcement and helps parents find new methods of interacting with their babies in delightful and refreshing ways. Parents also have the opportunity to learn or improve upon their English.

Helen Doron, creator of Baby’s Best Start, comments, “Baby’s Best Start is a multi-faceted program that fills a gap in the early education market. This pioneering course is based on the fact that a baby’s ability to learn is limitless and BBS provides a myriad of opportunities for mother, father and baby to interact in intellectually, emotionally and physically stimulating ways. For example, one of the exercises in the course involves holding the baby upside down, while singing an original song associated with this movement. Blood and oxygen rushes to the brain, helping to increase the baby's brain growth as well as developing the vestibular system. Babies instinctively know the importance of being held upside down and love this. This gives a different perspective on the world and increases the baby's pool of concepts.”

Morning and afternoon classes will be launched from September. Weekend classes will be available to accommodate busy schedules and each class’s duration is approximately 45 minutes. Each participant will receive 4 Parents Books of Text and Memories, 4 storybooks for babies, 4 accompanying CDs including songs, rhymes, stories and vocabulary, and information leaflets. Each baby will learn about 550 words, sing or understand 24 new songs in English, as well as absorb English sentence structure, sounds, rhymes and stories.

Solution to Behavior Problems Might be in Your Lunchbox - Author Presents, Autism-ADHD related, Food Intolerances

Solution to Behavior Problems Might be in Your Lunchbox - Author Presents, Autism-ADHD related, Food Intolerances

Children's problematic behaviors, including autism spectrum, adhd, and food intolerances, can be significantly improved with digestive enzyme therapy. Karen DeFelice, an independent author of two book titles on digestive health, enzymes, and behavior, to explain why and what to do.

(PRWEB) January 10, 2005

Frustrated parents may be surprised to learn their childÂ’s problematic behaviors can originate from their dinner plates. An internationally renowned author will talk about some answers for those wandering the chaotic maze of autism, ADHD, and related conditions. Karen DeFelice, an independent author of two book titles on digestive health, enzymes, and behavior, to present Jan 19-21 in Seattle, WA and Portland OR.

There is a physiological reason that certain foods may trigger various behaviors, often unwanted ones. “A young child doesn’t know how to say ‘I have a throbbing migraine with visual disturbances,’ explains DeFelice, who has a Master’s in Science and two boys with neurological conditions. “They just know they don’t feel well and act out. Maybe you will see poor sleep, maybe head-banging, maybe aggression, or an amazing variety of other behaviors or physical symptoms.”

Adults may be affected too and not even realize it. For adults, this translates to how productive they are at work and, often, how happy they are with themselves and their lives. Many adults suffer from unknown digestive problems that influence autoimmune conditions, migraines, chronic fatigue, colitis, and chronic digestive disorders. Why would digestive enzymes be dramatically improving behavior and learning abilities of children (and adults) over the past 4 years?

“The key is to understand exactly how digestion is structured and works. Once you grasp that, the rest of the issues – symptoms, nutrition, special diets, gut problems - fall into place.” says DeFelice. “A network of nerves runs right along the digestive tract. If digestion is interrupted at one point, it can lead to one set of problems. Disruptions at another point in the gut can lead to different issues.”

“Many people don’t realize that ‘good nutrition’ has 2 distinct parts. First, you need to put real, wholesome food into your body. You might be surprised what you are actually eating!” explains DeFelice. “But all the great food and vitamins won’t do you any good if they aren’t digested and absorbed properly – the second essential part. Nutrients will pass right on through.”

The presentations are free and open to the public at:

Tuesday January 18, 7-9 pm at The Drachen Foundation, 1905 Queen Anne Ave N. Rm #200,

Seattle, WA, 206-282-4349

Wednesday January 19, 7-9 pm at Marlene's Market & Deli, 2565 S. Gateway Center Place, Federal Way, WA, 253-839-0933

Thursday January 20, 7-9 pm at National College of Naturopathic Medicine(NCNM) 49 SW Porter, Portland, Oregon 503-552-1501

Digestive enzyme therapy is one of the fastest emerging successful alternatives for people on the autism or ADHD spectrum as well as other neurological and often related digestive conditions (such as sensory integration dysfunction, migraines, food and chemical intolerances, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, autoimmune conditions, bowel dysfunctions, and leaky gut syndrome).

Enzymes for Autism and other Neurological Conditions: The Practical Guide to Digestive Enzymes by Karen DeFelice has received critical acclaim as an insightful and informative book that is amazingly readable and easily understood by both lay readers and professionals.

It intertwines the incredible adventure of hundreds of mothers, their autism spectrum children, and other individuals all over the world testing new digestive enzymes with practical explanations of how to incorporate digestive enzymes into everyday life. This is expertly balanced with a review of the extensive scientific research on the use of digestive enzymes for assisting with digestive disorders, arthritis, inflammations, cancer, and many other uses.

Karen L. DeFelice and her two boys deal with pervasive neurological and sensory integration dysfunctions, and have seen dramatic improvement in their conditions through the use of enzyme therapy. She has a Masters in Science, and works in education and the sciences. She moderates and researches for an online support group of around 3500 families interested in enzymes, nutrition, and health. Dominica's OECS Junior Steelband Competition A Major Success

Dominica's OECS Junior Steelband Competition A Major Success

The first OECS Junior Pan Competition gets two thumbs up. You should make plans to attend next year's event immediately. You will not be disappointed.

Dominica (PRWEB) May 6, 2006

The first OECS Junior Pan Competition gets two thumbs up. You should make plans to attend next year's event immediately. You will not be disappointed. Indeed, while there has a been a mercuric rise in the popularity of the steelpan instrument and music globally, the OECS Junior Competition firmly establishes an educational and performance outlet in the region for educators, students and other cultural organizations to compare agendas, directives and goals. Moreover, the coming together of all these organizations and key qualified persons, provided the opportunity for comparison and formation of new strategies for the instrument's development and marketing, and steelpan music educational methodologies.

Each country brought its unique experiences and wealth of knowledge to the event. The musical arrangements and performance techniques highlighted the similarities, as well as the subtle but well-defined musical differences between the islands of the Caribbean. This competition was an ethnomusicologist's dream. The history and culture of each island was skillfully interwoven in the test piece arrangement and performance by each band. Indian, French, English, Portuguese and Spanish influences could be heard distinctly between the common African music and rhythms that bind the islands together.

This was truly one of those events where any OECS member orchestra who had an opportunity to enter and perform at this competition, and did not - lost out considerably. A win, win, win situation - a win for the organizers, a win for the performers and a win for the audience.

The Institute for Health Technology Transformation (iHT2) announced a number of new initiatives and year round educational programs designed to foster the meaningful use of healthcare technology today.

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 26, 2009

The Institute for Health Technology Transformation (iHT2) announced a number of new initiatives and year round educational programs designed to foster the meaningful use of healthcare technology today.

The Institute for Health Technology Transformation announces a number of new programs that will drive innovation, education, and provide a critical understanding of how technology applications, solutions and devices can improve the quality, safety and efficiency of healthcare. Our new programs include: educational workshops, topical newsletters, access to industry thought leaders, peer reviewed research, high level conferences, webinars, focus groups, topic specific committees, and other unique initiatives allowing individuals and organizations access to resources that will enable them to leverage the full value of healthcare technology.

"Healthcare is an industry in crisis, with rising costs and many left without proper care. The Institute and its partners realize that technology can have a transformative effect if utilized properly," said Waco Hoover, the Institute's CEO. "We look forward to working with a multitude of industry stakeholders and providing valuable programs that foster the use and growth of technology that will result in a more efficient and better healthcare system for all."

Technology in-and-of itself will not solve the deep challenges facing our healthcare system nor will it alone ensure more accessible and higher quality care. Realizing the benefits of technology across the healthcare continuum is a complex, under-utilized and often misunderstood process. Stakeholder collaboration underscores the Institute's focus working to ensure technology has a transformative effect at all levels of the healthcare sector.

Dangerous Drivers Beware, the Internet Can Reach Out and Touch You &#194

Dangerous Drivers Beware, the Internet Can Reach Out and Touch You Â

Now the Internet can actually make our roads safer. A new web site, appropriately named, ReportDangerousDrivers. com can help make our roads safer for everyone. Reckless drivers are now on notice that the many responsible drivers can now use this new web site to report their careless and dangerous driving stunts.

(PRWEB) September 22, 2003

Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) September 22, 2003 – How many times have we all been witness to reckless drivers that have put us and others in harms way? How helpless and powerless we feel, and have muttered to ourselves, “where’s a cop when you need one?” With the introduction of a new web site, we can now identify those drivers that terrorize our roads and highways. PIC America Inc., a Pittsburgh based company has just announced its new public service web site appropriately named ReportDangerousDrivers. com.

Irresponsible and dangerous drivers have been the root cause of countless deaths and injuries for years. “Every year, over 30,000 people are killed on our roads in this country and a large percentage of those deaths are directly attributable to reckless drivers,” says Dennis White, co-founder of ReportDangerousDrivers. com.

“Short of having police and highway patrol vehicles stationed behind every bush, many people believe that it’s a problem that we just need to live or die with,” says White. Education and public safety announcements just do not work with a certain portion of the public.

“The solution to this problem is really quite simple. It’s us against them and the good news is that there are far more safe drivers on the road than dangerous drivers. It’s a matter of the safe drivers banding together. When you witness a reckless driver, just get their license plate number. Then when you get home, file a report at our web site. It’s free and only takes a few minutes to file a report,” says White.

The database of traffic violations is freely accessible to everybody, and it is very easy to use. Simply enter a plate number and the state from which the plate is registered, and then you will be able to view any and all violation reports that have been filed against this particular vehicle.

Peer pressure and parental pressure may very well prove to be the key to stopping many of these drivers. Even dangerous drivers have loving friends and family that would be very disappointed if they were aware of their reckless driving habits. An additional incentive for these reckless drivers will in essence be their awareness that others can and will notice their irresponsible driving. And others, that choose to drive responsibly, may monitor them on the Internet.

Parents, spouses and other love ones will have access to the violation reports by simply knowing a plate number.

ReportDangerousDrivers. com was designed and developed by Dennis and Joseph White, a father and son team that strongly believe that this is a problem that can be remedied or at least significantly reduced.

Academy of Art University Presents Junk Mail: From Debris to Design

Academy of Art University Presents Junk Mail: From Debris to Design

Top art school students create artwork for Bay Area environmental campaign.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) February 24, 2008

As a part of its dedication to the environment, Academy of Art University has incorporated "green" and sustainable practices not only into its curriculum, but also into its facilities and services. The Academy held Junk Mail: From Debris to Design at 79 Gallery featuring a cross-section of environmental art, ranging from larger than life-size sculptures to fashion designs.

Impassioned by the goal of the Bay Area Recycling Outreach Coalition (BayROC) to stop junk mail, students from the Academy of Art University's fashion school (http://www. academyart. edu/fashion-school/index. html), fine art school (http://www. academyart. edu/fine-art-school/index. html), graphic design school (http://www. academyart. edu/graphic-design-school/index. html) and industrial design school have imaginative artworks across a variety of mediums using junk mail from San Francisco mailboxes.

Two sculptures titled Crush and The Mailbox Monster evoke the waste inherent to America's vast junk mail production and distribution. MFA Sculpture students conceived Crush, a larger-than-life portrait of an individual who has the power to block junk mail. BFA Sculpture students emphasize the importance of looking beyond just recycling junk mail and propose creative, environmental solutions with The Mailbox Monster.

"These students are committed to changes for positive growth within their community, bringing their own spirit of humor and invention to a project with possible far-reaching environmental impact, above and beyond the existent requirements of their coursework," said Associate Director of Fine Art Sculpture Margaret Keelan.

The average American adult receives and disposes of approximately 41 pounds of junk mail each year. It takes 17 trees to make a ton of paper; 42% of timber harvested nationwide becomes paper pulp. The Academy of Art University's Junk Mail: From Debris to Design encourages consumers to fight back against this insidious industry.

"Academy student creations for the Stop Junk Mail Campaign provide outstanding proof of the leading role artists and designers can take in motivating people to create healthy changes to reduce consumption of and safeguard precious environmental resources," says Academy of Art University President Elisa Stephens.

San Francisco is the foundation of Academy of Art University -- its natural beauty and cultural diversity serves as constant artistic inspiration. As a way of expressing its gratitude toward the city, the Academy is dedicated to preserving its environment, enriching the community and reaching out to those in need. The Academy has been an enthusiastic leader in San Francisco's commitment to the environment and sustainability, since it was one of the founding downtown institutions to visibly support Mayor Gavin Newsom's call for energy conservation.

The Academy of Art University is honored to partner with SF Environment, an active member of BayROC, a collaboration between staff representing over 40 San Francisco Bay Area cities, counties and other public agencies working together on waste reduction and recycling programs. Their website www. stopjunkmail. org offers tips for reducing junk mail.

Medical Training School, Pima Medical Institute, Moves Albuquerque Campus to New Location

Medical Training School, Pima Medical Institute, Moves Albuquerque Campus to New Location

Medical Training School, Pima Medical Institute, Moves Albuquerque Campus to New Location - The new facility features state-of-the-art classrooms, more space for students.

Albuquerque, NM (Vocus) June 11, 2010

Medical training school (http://pmi. edu/locations/albuquerque. asp), Pima Medical Institute, one of the premier health care career training schools in the western United States, officially moved in to their new campus location last week. The new facility features increased classroom and study space as well as state-of-the-art medical equipment, similar to what students will use daily at hospitals, physicians’ offices and clinics when they graduate.

Conveniently located at the Pavilions at San Mateo in the 44,000 square foot building that used to house Circuit City, Pima Medical Institute’s new medical training school campus has been transformed from a retail site into a space designed to foster learning. The school, which first began training Albuquerque residents nearly 25 years ago, prepares students for a variety of careers in the health care field, such as nursing, respiratory therapy, medical assistant, pharmacy technician and veterinary assistant, among others.

“Pima Medical Institute’s location will provide students with the classroom space and high-tech equipment they need to learn and become successful health care professionals,” said Albuquerque campus director Holly Woelber. “This larger campus allows Pima to address the community’s need for a school that trains students to fill the jobs that New Mexico’s economy requires.”

A recent report by the National Skills Coalition concluded that the largest share of future job openings in New Mexico will be in middle skills jobs – those jobs defined as requiring more than a high school diploma, but not a four-year degree. Examples include nursing and various health care technicians, jobs for which the medical training school specifically trains its students.

“Our success is determined by the satisfaction of our students and the fact they are working in jobs that allow them to utilize the skills they gained at Pima,” said Mark Luebke, president of Pima Medical Institute. “Since 1985, Pima’s Albuquerque campus has helped nearly 8,000 students graduate and positively impact Albuquerque in the health care field. With the opening of this new facility, Pima continues our mission of training the next generation of health care professionals and providing skilled workers that can fill the middle skills job shortage in the state.”

About Pima Medical Institute
Established in Tucson in 1972, Pima Medical Institute (PMI) is one of the premier medical career colleges in the western United States. PMI is a private, family-owned, accredited school dedicated to providing students with a well-rounded education that offers theoretical classroom studies coupled with real world training on-site at medical facilities. Attleboro High School TeacherÂ’s World Record Run Cut Short. Students and Track Team Members Finished the Run for Martin Tighe. (Excerpts from CAROLYN THORNTON Providence Journal)

Attleboro, MA (PRWEB) May 9, 2005

City teacher Martin Tighe attempts to set a new World Record for the most miles run on a treadmill in a 24 hour time period.

His quest for another world record ended shortly after 6 o'clock and 40 miles into his run Friday evening, but Martin Tighe can hardly look back at the last two days feeling any sense of failure.

Hospitalized after getting just a quarter of the way into what was supposed to be a 24-hour treadmill run, the Attleboro High School Teacher and adjustment counselor may have fallen short of his record-setting goal, but he can consider his mission accomplished.

Because when Tighe stepped off that treadmill, his students jumped on and finished the job for him.

Program and others members of the boys and girls outdoor track teams that passed up the chance to compete at a state meet yesterday to help Tighe's cause - rallied together and demonstrated that they understand the true meaning of Tighe's message when he encourages them each day to "Go the distance."

Tighe never envisioned his message having the impact that it did. “It really was extraordinary.”

When Martin Tighe's bid for a world record on a 24-hour treadmill run was cut short, students and track team members jumped on and finished the job for him.

01:00 AM EDT on Sunday, May 1, 2005

BY CAROLYN THORNTON Journal Sports Writer

His quest for another world record ended shortly after 6 o'clock Friday evening, but Martin Tighe can hardly look back at the last two days feeling any sense of failure.

Hospitalized after getting just a quarter of the way into what was supposed to be a 24-hour treadmill run, the Attleboro High School adjustment counselor may have fallen short of his record-setting goal, but he can consider his mission accomplished.

Because when Tighe stepped off that treadmill, his students jumped on and finished the job for him. The teenagers - some of them part of the school's alternative Network.

Program and others members of the boys and girls outdoor track teams that passed up the chance to compete at a state meet yesterday to help Tighe's cause -- rallied together and demonstrated that they understand the true meaning of Tighe's message when he encourages them each day to "Go the distance."

"He's been inspiring," said Stephanie Burt, the ninth-grader who came up with the idea for the students to run the final 120 miles in Tighe's honor. "I wanted to get up there. I wanted to help him finish."

Tighe never envisioned his message having the impact that it did.

"Obviously, I was extremely disappointed about the fact of not being able to complete the run," said Tighe, still a little lightheaded and suffering from a "banging headache" when reached at home last night. "However, to have seen what happened (yesterday) morning with the track team and the people in the community coming to cheer them on. That wouldn't have happened if I hadn't dropped out. It really was extraordinary."

Unusual endeavors.

The 24-hour treadmill record is just the latest of many crazy endeavors Tighe has undertaken. The 47-year-old Providence resident, who originally hails from Manchester, England, has scaled some of the most difficult peaks in the Himalayas, reached the summit of the highest mountain in the Atlas range in Morocco and kayaked the white waters of Europe and North America.

He turned to ultra-running in recent years, despite having 15 pins and two plates in his feet after breaking both ankles in a climbing accident several years ago.

Enduring temperatures that dipped to minus-25 degrees and traversing shifting ice that covered the Arctic Ocean, Tighe won the inaugural North Pole Marathon in April 2003.

He turned that adventure, which he prepared for by running on a treadmill in an ice cream freezer, into a project for the Network Program. The students studied some of the major issues confronting the Arctic region and even helped arrange Tighe's travel arrangements.

After a discussion with one of his students about the 24-hour treadmill record, Tighe decided to try to break the current mark of 153.76 miles, set by New Yorker Christopher Bergland April 29-30 of last year in Greenwich Village, and again make his quest part of a class project.

He chose the theme "Go the Distance," hoping to raise awareness about the increasing dropout rate in the country, an issue that is of particular concern to the Network Program, which provides an alternative learning environment for students who have had difficulty operating in a traditional classroom.

In preparation for the run, Tighe went for the 12-hour record on March 19, setting a world mark of 85.83 miles and breaking three other records along the way -- for 50K (3:44:48), 50 miles (6:06:19) and 100K (7:39:31). (Those records are still pending approval by Guinness.)

Scary moments

His attempt at the 24-hour record began Friday at noon, on a NordicTrack treadmill stationed outside principal Jackie Proulx's office.

Until school let out at 1:50 p. m., Tighe had a cheering section 1,900 strong, with students shouting words of encouragement as they passed him in the lobby on their way to and from lunch.

"We had a very long, detailed plan from 0 to 160 miles, which was his goal," said Bruce Garber, a friend of Tighe's who served as the project manager.

Tighe periodically snacked on fig newtons and did his best to stay hydrated, occasionally slowing to a walk to eat a sandwich.

With the exception of some equipment problems that forced Tighe to switch treadmills after about 4 or 5 miles, things were going very well at first, according to his wife Marcia.

Tighe was right on schedule - actually slightly ahead of schedule -- when he began to experience some intestinal problems at about 5 p. m.

Prone to an upset stomach when he's done other long distance events, he didn't think anything of it, but by 6 o'clock, Tighe began feeling nauseous.

When the urge wouldn't pass, he ran to a back room and tried to vomit, thinking it would make him feel better.

But while he was doing that, Tighe passed out for several minutes.

"It took a while to get him back and he couldn't stay with us," said Marcia Tighe. "He kept passing out. It was very scary."

Tighe was rushed by ambulance to Sturdy Memorial Hospital, where he underwent a battery of tests.

Everything came back normal, leading doctors to believe that Tighe's body simply shut down from the overexertion.

Show of support

Released from the hospital at about 11 p. m. Friday, Tighe went home to rest.

Meanwhile, the students carried on. The team challenges that were being held on two other treadmills continued through the evening.

Kelly Cronin - a physical education teacher at Attleboro, who also coaches winter and spring track with Tighe -- was impressed to see some of her students, who really don't have any running experience, join in.

"These are kids who are normally the first ones out the door," she said.

Even members of the rival Bishop Feehan High track team came out to support the project.

After an improvisational comedy team called SOTP (Speed Of Thought Players) performed shortly after 11, everyone decided to go home for the night.

Even though there would be no record to celebrate, the organizers decided that the many festivities planned for yesterday morning would go on as scheduled.

Then, as Network coordinator Kathy Vespia was giving student Stephanie Burt a ride home late that night, Burt turned to her and said, "Are we going to finish the miles for him?"

That simple question set the ball in motion. By yesterday morning, a team of Network Program students had assembled back at the school ready to finish the job their counselor had started.

Since Tighe had completed 40.468 miles before dropping out, they would need to run another 120 miles in order for him to meet his goal.

An ambitious task, but soon the Network students had reinforcements.

Already on the bus ready to go to the Massachusetts Division I Relays in Peabody, Mass., the boys and girls track teams decided to forgo the meet and join their classmates on the treadmills.

"For a lot of these kids, it was their last year of being able to compete in such a high quality competition, so for them to have done that was unbelievable," said Tighe, who briefly stopped by the high school yesterday morning before going for an electrocardiogram. "Oh God, when I saw that...The whole track team had all three treadmills going, and the kids were going as fast as they can. It was phenomenal. Seeing all the kids screaming and being extremely supportive, it really was quite an emotional moment."

For almost five hours, they took turns running. By approximately 1 p. m., the 120 miles were completed.

Burt, student Steve Kalil and Tighe's oldest daughter, Hannah, ran the final 3 miles.

"I really wanted to help and just be a part of it," 9-year-old Hannah Tighe said. "If my father can go the distance, I can, too."

Once his body has recovered from this latest ordeal, Tighe says he may consider attempting the world record again.

For the time being, he will revel in the satisfaction of knowing he helped transform a community.

"The collaboration of a small community that this project created, being able to impact such a group of people for one cause was great," he said. "And obviously, it would be nice to see more of this going on. The power of students and the power of adults working together, working for a common cause, really can create changes and influence young minds."

Center for LNG: Carnegie Mellon Life-Cycle Air Emissions Study a Mix of Fact and Fantasy

Center for LNG: Carnegie Mellon Life-Cycle Air Emissions Study a Mix of Fact and Fantasy

The Center for Liquefied Natural Gas (CLNG) released the following statement in response to a recent study on life-cycle air emissions conducted by a team of Carnegie Mellon University researchers that mixes current facts with yet-to-be developed coal technologies.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) September 2, 2007

The Center for Liquefied Natural Gas (CLNG) today released the following statement in response to a recent study on life-cycle air emissions conducted by a team of Carnegie Mellon University researchers that mixes current facts with yet-to-be developed coal technologies.

"We commend the Carnegie Mellon researchers for their effort to study the life cycle air emissions of fossil fuels. The authors accurately report that coal-fired power plants produce higher air emissions than natural-gas fueled power plants. They also state the obvious: That natural gas is the most environmentally friendly fossil fuel," said Bill Cooper, CLNG's executive director.

"But the authors' prediction that using LNG for electricity generation could produce more greenhouse gas emissions than coal-fired facilities relies on carbon sequestration technologies that they say will not be feasible for 20 years. They further suggest that the LNG industry should wait to build facilities while coal technologies are being developed. This makes as much sense as putting a starving man on a diet.

"Waiting on the advent of future technology to meet current energy needs is pure fantasy. Americans need energy now. And since we are not producing enough natural gas here at home to meet our nation's ever increasing demand for energy, LNG is an environmentally sound alternative.

"Not only do the authors rely on yet-to-be developed carbon capture technologies, but they also conveniently leave out existing advancements in LNG technologies that improve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The authors stumble even further by projecting past LNG emission practices into the future. They do not account for the latest LNG technologies such as modernized fuel efficient tankers and more environmentally-friendly LNG liquefaction plant designs."

CLNG is a coalition of LNG producers, shippers, terminal operators and developers, energy trade associations and natural gas consumers. Its goal is to enhance public education and understanding about LNG by serving as a clearinghouse for LNG information. For more information, visit www. lngfacts. org

Oscar-Nominated Writer/Director Oren Moverman and Acclaimed Actor Ben Foster to Lead March Session of the Ringling College Digital Filmmaking Studio Lab

Oscar-Nominated Writer/Director Oren Moverman and Acclaimed Actor Ben Foster to Lead March Session of the Ringling College Digital Filmmaking Studio Lab

Writer/Director and Lead Actor of ‘The Messenger’ to Work with Ringling College Students on Campus and Screen Their Films at the ‘Ringling Reels & Retrospectives’ Series March 24 and 25 at Burns Court Cinemas

Sarasota, FL (Vocus) March 6, 2010 –

Ringling College of Art and Design (http://www. ringling. edu/DF.214.0.html) today announced that it will host visiting director and writer Oren Moverman (http://www. ringling. edu/DF.214.0.html) and actor Ben Foster (http://www. ringling. edu/DF.214.0.html) this month as part of the College’s Digital Filmmaking Studio Lab program.

Moverman and Foster will work with Ringling College Digital Filmmaking students as part of the Lab’s collaborative orientation toward driving direct creative interaction between students and film industry luminaries.

Moverman and Foster recently worked together on ‘The Messenger’, which has received two Academy Award nominations – Best Original Screenplay (Moverman co-wrote the film) and Best Supporting Actor (Woody Harrelson.) The duo will work with students on campus on Thursday, March 24th, with a press briefing planned for 2 p. m. at the Ann and Alfred Goldstein Center.

At 7:30 pm that evening, the Sarasota Film Society will offer a free showing of Mr. Moverman’s Bob Dylan biopic ‘I'm Not There’ as part of the ongoing ‘Ringling Reels and Retrospectives’ series at Burns Court Cinema. On Friday, March 25th at 10pm the Film Society will screen Ben Foster’s ‘Pandorum’. The screenings are co-sponsored by the Sarasota County Film Commission and are free and open to the general public.

Mr. Moverman’s expertise as a writer and director aligns well with the foundation of the Digital Filmmaking Studio Lab’s focus on ‘Story’ as the cornerstone of filmmaking. Story drives everything in film – the script, production design, directing, cinematography, editing, marketing, etc.

“Story goes to the heart of what our industry will always need -- no matter how the technology changes and advances,” said Ringling College Digital Filmmaking Department Head Bradley Battersby “Just as it is today with current industry leaders like Jim Cameron, Steven Spielberg and Brad Bird, the best storytellers are destined to be the future leaders of our art and industry. At Ringling our focus is on teaching to create great story and then reinforcing it with the best production tools, techniques and technologies available to bring these stories to life.”

The Ringling College Digital Filmmaking Studio Lab, launched this past January in association with Future Films, LLC, brings some of the world’s most renowned filmmakers, producers and film industry leaders to Sarasota to work collaboratively with Ringling students on learning the process of motion picture and television development. Industry luminaries that have lectured as part of the Digital Filmmaking Studio Lab include director Werner Herzog, who inaugurated the Lab in January, and producer Paul Schiff, who screened his new film starring Michael Douglas, ‘Solitary Man,’ for students and donors. Ringling College President Larry Thompson and Producer Paul Schiff recently discussed the Digital Filmmaking Lab on air with SW Florida National Public Radio News Manager Amy Tardif. The interview is accessible at http://wgcu. org/audioplayer/6665.aspx (http://wgcu. org/audioplayer/6665.aspx).

The College is raising funds to finance film projects through the Digital Filmmaking (http://www. ringling. edu/DF.214.0.html) Studio Lab Development Fund, proceeds of which will be used to fund a soundstage for the campus and for the creation of original scripts as well as purchasing the rights to promising screenplays, books and other creative writings which have the potential to become the basis for a film or TV production.
