Magna Entertainment Corp. announces notice of event of default

AURORA, ON, Feb. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Magna Entertainment Corp. ("MEC" or "the Company") (NASDAQ: MECA; TSX: MEC.A) today announced that it has received written notice from its lenders that Pimlico Racing Association, Inc., Laurel Racing Association Limited Partnership, Laurel Racing Assoc., Inc. and The Maryland Jockey Club of Baltimore City, Inc. (collectively "MJC"), each a subsidiary of MEC, are in default under the PNC Bank, National Association ("PNC Bank") loan agreement for failure to comply with certain financial covenants relating to the financial position and results of operation of MJC and related entities. PNC Bank has informed MEC that it has chosen not to exercise its rights and remedies under such loan agreement at this time as a consequence of this event of default, but may choose to do so at any time in the future without any further written notice. In addition, MEC has previously notified Wells Fargo Bank, National Association and a Canadian chartered bank with which MEC has a US$40 million credit facility that MEC or certain of its subsidiaries have not met certain financial covenants of the loan agreements with such lenders. Michel Gondry to Direct 'The Green Hornet'

Though the dropout rate fell from 21.6% to 21% from 1990 to 2000, Latino youth educated in the United States are about twice as likely to drop out of high school as their white peers. Pointing to potential progress, the report notes a significant increase in community-centered approaches to engaging Latinos in education.

Finally, Latino students need work-readiness skills. By endowing students with work-readiness skills, schools can help Latino students to overcome the social and cultural barriers that obstruct Latinos from higher paying skilled jobs. Community colleges are singled out as institutions that can play an important role in this area.

On April 17th to April 21st, 39 youth residents of the Detroit Housing Commission (DHC) will participate in a four day tour of historic pre-dominantly black colleges and universities. "Black College Tour 2000" will provide public housing and low-income youth with a highly informative experience aimed at increasing their awareness of historic black centers of academia. DHC's Youth services Department staff organized the event to expose it's pre - college and junior college residents to campus life and black college tradition, as well as to encourage them to apply for admission and financial assistance at traditional four-year educational institutions.

DHC will sponsor the educational excursion, including a cost of approxiamtely $500 per student. Participants hail from all DHC family developments.

Black College Tour 2000 will visit such historic and honored institutions, as Fisk University in Nashville, TN; Hampton Institute in Hampton, Virginia; and Atlanta University Center, which includes Spellman, Moorehouse, and Clark Colleges, in Atlanta, Ga. DHC's Executive Director, John Nelson stated, "This tour will equip potential college candidates with an elevated sense of the college experience, it's history, and how it all works to shape their futures. The opportunity to visit centers of higher education and meet with other students and school representatives, should translate into most if not all of the 39 participants gaining admission to these and other schools."

DHC Black College Tour 2000 participants will meet at 8 am Sunday, April 16th to depart for Coppin and Morgan State Universities in Baltimore, MD. The tour will conclude at Fisk University on April 21st, returning to Detroit late evening on Friday, April 21st.

Selection criteria inlcludes 14 - 19 years of age and current enrollment in high school or community college. In addition, hopeful participants were required to submit a 300 word essay based on the opportunites education affords young people.

Part of J.Crew's Weddings & Parties Collection, Roberts chose the "Gracie" gown in Fresh Tangerine. This special color is part of the fall 2009 Collection and made exclusively for Robin and this Red Carpet occasion.
