Lommen Abdo partner, Dan Satorius, a leading attorney in the independent film world, will address contract and union issues earlier in the week on March 9 during the SXSW Film Festival, from 1-2 p. m. More than 100 reproductive endocrinologists, lab directors and scientists attended the 16th annual conference which was held in Dallas, Texas.

The three trends in fertility treatment are:

1. Improved pregnancy rates with decreased multiple rates through metabolomics. With metabolomics, embryo quality can now be evaluated non-invasively to more accurately measure their quality. In doing so, only the most viable embryo needs to be transplanted rather than multiple embryos, thus improving pregnancy rates while significantly reducing the instances of multiples through in vitro fertilization (IVF).

2. Use of vitrification technology to successfully freeze eggs. One of the most exciting and long-awaited advances in fertility preservation is the ability to successfully freeze eggs via a technology called vitrification. Through vitrification, eggs are plunged in liquid nitrogen and instantly frozen, ensuring that this largely water-based cell does not form crystals that would expand and disrupt the egg’s membrane.

Dr. Schnorr predicts that within the next three to four years about 25% of all fertility preservation will utilize vitrification.

3. Improvement in the evaluation and treatment of severe male-factor infertility. Today 40 percent of infertility problems are attributed to the man. Procedures to improve the evaluation, risk assessment and treatment of severe male-factor infertility were discussed.

CPS-Impact Insurance (CPS-Impact) presented a $5,000 grant from the National Association of Life Insurance Brokerage Agencies (NAILBA) Charitable Foundation to the Skyline Foundation in White Salmon, WA to support Skyline Hospital’s diabetic education’s new ‘Fight Back: Stop Diabetes Before It Starts’ program. The program targets addressing pre-diabetes in Klickitat County, WA middle school children.

NAILBA’s Charitable Foundation has been dedicated to providing funds to charities in local neighborhoods since 2001. NAILBA’s grants are awarded to a wide range of programs and organizations that provide services designed to help those in need, specifically children.

CPS-Impact, located in White Salmon, WA, submitted the grant on behalf of the Skyline Foundation earlier this year and was recently notified of the award. “When NAILBA’s grant application became available we noticed their main focus was helping children and the Skyline Foundation immediately came to mind,” said Jess Wardwell, Vice President of Marketing for CPS-Impact. “Skyline’s ‘Fight Back: Stop Diabetes Before It Starts’ program was a perfect fit. We help clients with diabetes find affordable life insurance on a regular basis, so we understand the medical complications this disease brings. What better a way to help than by spreading the word and educating our youth about this disease and how to prevent it?”

The national Center for Disease Control predicts that one-third of all children born after the year 2000 will develop diabetes in their lifetime. “It is critical that we educate youth and their families to develop a healthy lifestyle in order to reverse this catastrophic trend,” said Becky Petty, Diabetic Education Specialist at Skyline.

The Skyline Foundation’s mission is to improve community health. With obesity in Klickitat County well above the national average, it’s imperative that we educate our youth on the seriousness of diabetes. “Once you have diabetes, it can never be resolved. It can however be prevented, through diet, exercise and making healthy choices,” stated Stephanie Irving, Executive Director of the Skyline Foundation. “Students need to know they have a choice, we’re thrilled Skyline’s Diabetic Education Program is taking on this challenge.”

This new program will allow a nurse specializing in Diabetic Education and Care to discuss diabetes and the importance of prevention to middle school children in Klickitat County. Children and their parents will be educated about this progressive disease, its dangers, and the medical costs associated with diabetes.

“We are very excited to present this award to the Skyline Foundation,” said Wardwell. “We hope this program will set an example for other medical providers to allow the Fight Back program to go statewide, if not further.”

The hotline message is narrated by Emmy Award winning actor Joe Spano (Hill Street Blues, Apollo 13, NYPD Blue) and is updated every Thursday evening with new information from over 90 wildflower sites throughout Southern California.

In addition, the web site, www. theodorepayne. org, will feature expanded weekly reports covering the entire State of California. The site provides Web links to dozens of flower-watching destinations and lists both the common and botanical name of each flower mentioned, and where and when it is blooming,

The Wildflower Hotline: A Continuing California Tradition

This year marks the 22nd Anniversary of the Wildflower Hotline. A free public service of the Theodore Payne Foundation, its goal is to help Californians appreciate the diversity and breadth of our stateÂ’s beautiful and unique native plants, which range from the State Flower, the showy orange California Poppy, to the sublime blues of the wild lilac, Santa Barbara ceanothus. With its wide range of habitats, from coastal sage scrub to deserts to alpine meadows, California enjoys one of the most diverse and spectacular arrays of endemic plants in the world.

Popular area destinations covered by the hotline include the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve, Joshua Tree National Park, Carrizo Plain National Monument, Anza Borrego Desert State Park, and all of our local mountain ranges, including The Santa Monica Mountains and the San Gabriel Mountains. Foundation staff and volunteers work together to gather up-to-date bloom information from experts including park rangers, botanists, conservation specialists and members of the California Native Plant Society. Hikers, tourists, activity leaders and outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds use the information to plan trips to the weekÂ’s best bloom destinations.

In the past, the wildflower hotline and web site concentrated primarily on Southern California wildflower destinations. Information will be collected from over 160 sources, including state and national parks and national forests. 2004 Season Looks Promising

Wildflower Hotline Coordinator Sid Dutcher forecasts a later-than-usual flower season in 2004. “We won’t have the spectacular carpets of flowers we would have after an El Nino year, but nonetheless the wildflower season should be good. The last couple of storms have helped out a lot.” However, he reports that, in many areas, needed rainfall was spotty. “In the Mojave Desert, for example, some areas received ample rain and snow, while an area only a mile away might have received no precipitation at all. The Theodore Payne Foundation for California Wildflowers and Native Plants is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of CaliforniaÂ’s rich and diverse flora. Theodore Payne, who opened his first nursery in downtown Los Angeles in 1903, dedicated his life to promoting the use of native plants in home gardens and community landscape projects. Open source solutions will remain comparatively strong options for buyers due to their long focus on creating core development frameworks, but some of them lack advanced enterprise integration services.

Enterprise technology buyers need to look carefully at the existing enterprise portal offerings and ensure they are not buying unnecessary, unsuitable, or redundant technology. The 2009 enterprise software market can be characterized as a buying community interested in rediscovering the roots and strengths of enterprise portals. 2 cups Dead Sea salt, regular Sea Salt or Epsom salt, or a blend of two or three of these salts. 8-15 drops of your selected essential oil or essential oil blend (see suggestions below). Be sure and take heed in the safety data for the oils you choose to use.

Place the salt mixture into a bowl. Add 1 Tbs. carrier oil (vegetable oil is fine) and 8-15 drops of your chosen essential oils. Mix very well with a fork. Add the mixture to a pretty jar or container that has a tight fitting lid. After a day, you may wish to mix well again to ensure that the oils have blended very well. After you have drawn your bathwater, add about 1/4 cup (about 2 ounces) of the bath salt to your bath water.

Mix well to ensure that the salt has dispersed well in the tub and hop on in. It's best to add the bath salts just before getting in the bath instead of while the water is running so that the essential oils don't evaporate before you get in. Using this bath salt blend is safer than adding pure essential oils directly to the bath water and adds minerals and other beneficial properties of the salts.

Some blending suggestions for your bath:

Fashion students from the International Manufacturing & Product Development Program at FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising traveled to Paris and Milan on a study tour this fall. The travel program is part of a year-long journey through the product development cycle—from trend research to final sample.

Fashion school (http://fidm. edu) students from FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising recently spent nearly two weeks in Paris and Milan on a textile study tour where they conducted vital research for the products they are developing in their year-long International Manufacturing & Product Development (IMPD) Program. This is one of 18 exciting majors offered at the fashion college (http://fidm. edu). Other majors include fashion design (http://fidm. edu), graphic design, and interior design.

There are two study tours built into the IMPD program curriculum. In the fall, it’s Paris and Milan and in the spring, it’s Hong Kong. In Paris and Milan, the focus is on textile research in terms of trends and mill manufacturing. In Hong Kong, students visit a factory and learn the international concept of sourcing, production, and testing. FIDM VP of Education Barbara Bundy says the study tours give students “hands-on experience in global market research.”

The IMPD Program is set up like on-the-job training. FIDM partners with a mentor company and the students conduct their research with a specific customer in mind, reporting all their findings back to the mentor company at certain milestones. This year it’s Sunrise Brands, a private label manufacturer that owns Kitson and produces garments for Torrid and Charlotte Russe, among other companies. When the students leave the program, they’ve developed a portfolio of work that illustrates the entire life cycle of product development—from research, trend analysis, and costing to sample product.

In Paris, students attend Premiere Vision, an extensive textile tradeshow where they are exposed to colors and trends in fabrications two years in advance of the market. They are given specific assignments to complete at the show, leading them to meet with key industry leaders. Students learn how to strategize and think on their feet—excellent career preparation. In Milan, students visit a textile mill, where they learn how fabric is made.

FIDM Grad Ulysses McKenzie says, “Without IMPD I couldn’t do what I’m doing now,” which is launching his own fashion line. He says he learned how to do business with factories in the program, an essential part of product development.
