Washington, DC (PRWEB) June 8, 2007

More than 100 AEC industry leaders participated in a highly interactive and entertaining workshop given by Mark Goodale of Morrissey Goodale LLC at the ACEC's 2007 Annual Convention and Legislative Summit. The workshop focused on what it takes to create and lead a high performance team, a topic of keen interest to the highly project-driven AEC industry. Attendees learned ways to deal with dysfunctional teams and how to identify and optimize the strengths of individual team members. As part of a wide-ranging advocacy and educational event, Goodale's workshop gave attendees the tools to build reliability into their team's operations.

Goodale began his presentation by defining the attributes of a successful team and helped attendees acknowledge the makeup of teams they have been involved with thus far. By using a typical industry leader as an example, he demonstrated how that leader evolved from a state of frustration and disappointment to one of satisfaction and empowerment by getting his mind in a different place and being willing to change his perspective daily. Goodale compared trends in team sports which have moved from a dominant star to a collective squad for measuring success and stressed that project leadership establish trust with each team member and build a high level of reliability into each conversation with that team member.

Goodale believes that projects are a network of commitments and if those commitments and promises can be reliably made and secured, it will result in a transformation of how work is done in that organization. By way of explanation, Goodale asserts that not everyone understands what a promise is. He described 5 elements of a promise as follows:
Clear Customer: who is certain of the promise being made to them Clear Performer: who is certain of each promise he/she makes as a team member Clear Conditions of Satisfaction: when the ways that results will be delivered to the customer are understood and embraced by each of the team members Finish Line: when everyone involved is clear on timing and delivery of each promise Focus on the Future: when clarity exists on what has been done in the past and what will be done from now on to secure the promise

Goodale believes that consistent practice in observing the elements of a promise in every day conversations is the first step in mastering the skill of speaking with intention - the foundation of a high-performance team.

Corporate Sponsorship in Public Schools

Corporate Sponsorship in Public Schools

Corporate sponsorship is becoming an increasingly valuable tool for schools looking for ways of raising cash quickly.

LOS ALAMITOS, CA (PRWEB) August 30, 2004

In the face of drastic state budget cuts to public education, administrators and parent organizations are growing more entrepreneurial in order to maintain funding for student programs. Corporate sponsorship is becoming an increasingly valuable tool for schools looking for ways of raising cash quickly.

“Businesses are looking for ways to make their brands relevant and to connect face-to-face with customers”, says local marketing consultant Jason Deal. “Community-focused events that support education obviously put businesses in good standing with families”. With hundreds of enthusiastic participants, fundraising athletic events offer an especially compelling opportunity for business marketers.

One school venturing into the corporate sponsorship arena is Rossmoor Elementary in Los Alamitos, CA with its October fundraising 5K event “Ye Galloping Knights”. The starting point was the realization by the parent organizations that they represent a highly desirable audience for marketers. “We’ve always known that we live in a special community,” says Friends of Rossmoor Elementary President Fabiana Frasca, “but we were surprised by how interested businesses have been to market to it through our school events.”

Seeing an opportunity and taking advantage of it, however, are very different. “Selling sponsorships is nothing like asking businesses for a donation. We’ve worked hard to create promotional packages that deliver real marketing value to our sponsors – and we’ve learned a lot,” says PTA President Micki Hill. The Friends of Rossmoor Elementary have even gone so far as to create roles for Development Directors, titles typically reserved for corporate America.

The results thus far have been encouraging. With

Sponsorships ranging from $300 - $3,000, nearly half of the sponsorships sold within 2 months of the program initiation. “We’re very excited to be a part of the 5K,” says Long Beach MyGym Owner Ruben Bangi. “As a new business; we’ve been looking for a way to reach out to the families in Los Alamitos. This is perfect.”

While some parent groups have expressed concern over the influence of corporations on school campus in recent years, the Rossmoor Elementary parents have taken care to keep the focus off the children. “We set pretty strict guidelines in our sponsorship program before it started”, explains Frasca. “Our sponsors know what they are buying – a friendly introduction to about 300 parents with school-age children, and the opportunity to show their support for education”.

Despite the challenges of a crash-course in corporate sponsorship marketing, the organizers of the event are appreciative of their new business partners. “We think it is a win-win relationship", says Frasca “They’re helping us at a critical time, and we’re working hard to show them our gratitude by connecting them with our friends and families.”

Ye Galloping Knights event includes a 5K race, a 5K Family Walk, a ½ mile Jester’s Kids Run, and a Youth Health & Fitness Expo where local businesses serving children can showcase their offerings to Los Alamitos families. The event takes place on October 9th from 7am to noon at Rossmoor Elementary in Los Alamitos, CA. Between 400 and 600 attendees are expected. Participants can register for the event at active. com.

Brennan, Wiener & Associates Takes On Credit Card Giant Capital One ("What's in Your Wallet?") Over Post-Bankruptcy False Credit Reporting

Brennan, Wiener & Associates Takes On Credit Card Giant Capital One ("What's in Your Wallet?") Over Post-Bankruptcy False Credit Reporting

James Krider has filed a lawsuit against banking giant Capital One Bank over post-bankruptcy false credit reporting. Mr. Krider alleges that Capital One has continued to credit report Capital One accounts as delinquent or charged off on his credit reports even though he discharged them in bankruptcy proceedings. Mr. Krider is represented by prominent Southern California credit damage and identity theft attorney Robert F. Brennan, of La Crescenta, Ca. James Krider v. Capital One Bank, et al., Case No. CV 07-07707 ODW (AJWx), United States District Court, Central District (Los Angeles).

La Crescenta, CA (PRWEB) March 26, 2008

James Krider thought that having to file bankruptcies was tough enough. In addition to the fact that it would be reported on his credit reports for years to come, he felt he had let down some of the people who'd lent money to him. He'd had some of his credit cards for more than 20 years, and had been very responsible with his credit until some personal and professional reversals required him to resort to the bankruptcy court to get control of his debts.

When he began rebuilding his credit, he noticed what at first he thought was a mistake: Capital One was still reporting three credit cards which he had discharged in his bankruptcy filings. He did not understand this at all and disputed this credit reporting with all three major credit bureaus and also with Capital One. Imagine his surprise when Capital One insisted that it had the right to continue to credit-report his discharged accounts as "delinquent" on his credit reports.

"To say the least, I was shocked," explains Krider. "I had thought that this was some kind of mistake, but I disputed the credit reporting of these three accounts repeatedly to no avail. Capital One has taken the position that it has a perfect right to credit report these accounts as delinquent even though each has been discharged in bankruptcy. I admit, I am not proud of having had to declare bankruptcy, but the bankruptcy notation on my credit reports is bad enough and that will be there for 10 years. Having the credit card companies continue to report my old credit cards as still delinquent is doubly bad and makes it that much tougher for me to get back on my feet.

"In its commercials, Capital One asks, 'What's in Your Wallet?' Well, unfortunately, thanks to Capital One I effectively have a hole in my wallet because of the false credit reporting."

Krider is not alone. A growing number of banks and credit card companies have quietly been "pushing the envelope" on credit reporting of bankruptcy-discharged debt, hoping to pressure consumers who have recently been through bankruptcy to pay these debts.

Krider's attorney, Robert F. Brennan of Brennan, Wiener & Assoc. in La Crescenta, Ca., comments on this. "This business practice is targeted at two types of consumers: those that are under a lot of pressure to rebuild their credit and those that lack the education or sophistication to understand that their debts have been discharged in the bankruptcy proceedings. Mr. Krider, an educated professional, falls into the former category. He's working hard to rebuild his credit and produce and participate to the fullest in our society, but Capital One is actively blocking his efforts. For any consumers affected by this practice, it is unfair and we're confident that our federal judges will agree."

Krider filed a lawsuit against Capital One and the three major credit bureaus in late 2007 in the United States District Court, Central District in downtown Los Angeles. Krider v. Capital One Bank, et al., Case No. CV 07-07707 ODW (AJWx). The matter is in discovery proceedings now, with a trial date set in February of 2009. Brennan says they want their matter decided by a jury trial. Krider is seeking both money damages as well as a permanent deletion from his credit reports of any delinquent reporting of any accounts he had included in his bankruptcies.

Contact Information: Robert F. Brennan, Brennan, Wiener & Associates, 3150 Montrose Ave., La Crescenta, Ca. 91214, (818) 249-5291. Mr. Brennan and his firm are the leading consumer protection and credit damage attorneys in Southern California. Mr. Brennan has been selected as a "Southern California Super Lawyer" for three years running, for 2006, 2007 and 2008.

African Society for Toxicological Sciences Begins 2005 Poised To Make A Difference

African Society for Toxicological Sciences Begins 2005 Poised To Make A Difference

African Society for Toxicological Sciences Begins 2005 with Corporate and Foundation Funding, and SOT Recognition. After Fruitful Year in 2004, African Society for Toxicological Sciences Plans for Even Stronger 2005.

Rochester, NY (PRWEB) February 7, 2005

Since its birth in 1999, the African Society for Toxicological Sciences (ASTS) [http://AfricanSocietyForToxicologicalSciences. org (http://AfricanSocietyForToxicologicalSciences. org)] has pursued the overarching objective of promoting human health through research, education, and knowledge sharing. Now, approaching its 5th annual symposium (Tuesday, March 8, 2005 from 6:30 – 8:00 PM in Salon 3 of the Hilton Riverside Hotel, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA), ASTS is poised to pursue its objective more strongly than ever. The year of 2004 saw ASTS gaining funding, recognition and assistance from corporate, foundational and governmental sources; in 2005, says Society President Dr. Hoffman Lantum, they expect to build on those gains, beginning with three poster session presentations at the March 6-10 meeting of the Society of Toxicology (SOT) in New Orleans.

ASTS is a US-based non-profit organization which aims to promote the acquisition, dissemination and utilization of knowledge in the toxicological sciences, with emphasis on knowledge relevant to the continent of Africa. The society was born in March 1999 in New Orleans, founded by twenty scientists attending the 1998 American Society of Toxicology meeting in Seattle, Washington, who formed an ad hoc volunteer-committee to work on a draft constitution and by-laws for the organization. The constitution and by-laws were presented and approved during the first formal ASTS meeting on March 16, 1999.

During 2003, under the influence of Dr. Hoffman Lantum, ASTS began using an internet-based content management system to disseminate information and promote knowledge of the ASTS in the global medical and scientific communities, thus helping the society to establish its global presence and reputation. On Friday, January 02, 2004, the ASTS website published its first news story, announcing approval by the FDA of "Orphan Drug Status" for Xechem's Sickle Cell drug NIPRISAN (HEMOXIN(TM). The ASTS has continued to use their web site to reach out to the medical and scientific communities, and to the people and organizations that support them.

And the ASTS has been heard:

In 2005, ASTS received a $10,000 grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS/NIH) [http://www. niehs. nih. gov (http://www. niehs. nih. gov)], thanks to the support of Dr. Kenneth Olden.

ASTS is currently partnering with the African Education Initiative (NEF) and the Third World Medical Research Foundation (TWMRF) [http://twmrf. com (http://twmrf. com)] to promote technical training and research activities in many countries in Africa.

INTERTOX [http://www. intertox. com/ (http://www. intertox. com/)], Seattle, WA, an international toxicology consulting firm, has donated books to the ASTS for distribution in Africa.

The society is pleased to be sponsoring three scientists from Africa to attend the annual meeting of the American Society Of Toxicology [http://www. toxicology. org (http://www. toxicology. org)] for the first time with the ASTS-NEF sponsored travel award. The 2005 ASTS-NEF Travel Award was funded in part by Eastman Kodak Co, Rochester, NY, Rochester, NY, with a $7,000 donation from the Global Diversity Office and the Health Safety and Environmental Organization of Kodak. The three invited scientists and awardees are: Prof. Isaac U. Asuzu, Department of Veterinary Physiology & Pharmacology, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State, Nigeria; Dr. Orish E. Orisakwe, Department of Pharmacology, College of Health Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi, Nigeria; and Dr. Jahun Jahun, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Amadou Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria.

This year's 2005 ASTS symposium will be the inaugural event recognizing the society as a special interest group of the SOT. The theme will be “Emerging Health and Environmental Adverse Effects of Pharmaceuticals and Industrial Chemicals and the Need for Good Regulatory Policy in Africa.” This is the ASTS's 5th annual symposium, and is being held on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 from 6:30 – 8:00 PM in Salon 3 of the Hilton Riverside Hotel, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.

The ASTS leadership encompasses more than 50 years of cummulative experience in academic research in toxicology and environmental health sciences. Its members also have policy and regulatory knowledge for new substance notifications and product registrations in global markets for the pharmaceutical and chemical industries.

2004 saw strong growth in awareness of ASTS and its aims within the medical, scientific and corporate worlds, and by extension a significant enhancement in the Society's ability to pursue those aims. 2005 sees ASTS poised to pursue its aims with still more vigor. ASTS can truly claim success in its goal of fostering improvements in human health.

New Research Reveals Surprising Lifetime Risk of Economic Insecurity Among Americans

New Research Reveals Surprising Lifetime Risk of Economic Insecurity Among Americans

Researchers developing website that will allow individuals to assess their personal economic risk

St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) May 25, 2008

Recent economic events have shaken the confidence of many Americans with respect to their ability to achieve the "American dream." "With rising numbers of home foreclosures, job cuts, and loss of savings, more Americans are encountering severe periods of economic risk and insecurity in their lives," says Mark R. Rank, Ph. D., poverty expert and professor of social work at Washington University in St. Louis.

Rank's work is shedding a new light on the amount of economic risk that Americans face across their lifetimes. His work has shown that the likelihood of economic turmoil during one's adulthood is exceedingly high, and has been rising over the past three decades.

For example, Rank's research on the chances of encountering poverty has demonstrated that between the ages of 20 and 75, roughly three-quarters of all Americans will experience at least one year in poverty or near poverty. Even more surprising, two-thirds of Americans between the ages of 20 and 65 will, at some point, turn to a welfare program such as food stamps, and 40 percent of Americans will use a welfare program in five or more separate years during their working age adulthood. Additional analyses have shown that the life course risk of poverty has risen sharply from the 1970s to the 1990s.

Rank's current research on homeownership has also revealed substantial turmoil in the lives of Americans. Although the vast majority of Americans will eventually buy a home -- Rank estimates that by age 40, 83 percent of Americans have purchased a home -- nearly 40 percent of these homeowners will lose their homeowner status within 10 years of the time of purchase. The recent home mortgage crisis has revealed substantial financial risk among American homeowners, and Rank's life course work provides actual estimates of the amount of economic insecurity embedded within the dream of homeownership in America.

Another area of research that Rank, along with his collaborator at Cornell University, Tom Hirschl, has been investigating, is whether Americans have saved enough to get them through these periods of economic turmoil. Preliminary data analysis indicates that up to one half of all Americans will not have enough liquid assets to keep them out of poverty for three months should they suddenly lose their job.

Based on these and other analyses, Rank and Hirschl are developing a first-of-its-kind computer program and Web site that will allow Americans to estimate their degree of potential economic risk. The program will be analogous to current medical programs that allow individuals to calculate the likelihood of encountering a particular health risk such as heart disease.

"This program will not only allow individuals the capability to see into their economic future, but it will also allow them to understand the extent to which they might lower their risk by engaging in certain behaviors, such as acquiring more education," Rank says.

Rank and Hirschl are currently putting together a book on economic insecurity and the American dream that will be forthcoming with Oxford University Press.

"All of this work is shedding light on the fragility of the 'American dream' and what we can do to restore its viability," Rank says.

The George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis aims to create positive social change through its path-breaking research and educational excellence. The Brown School's international community of faculty, students, and graduates works throughout St. Louis, across the country, and worldwide to apply new knowledge and use the best available evidence to impact policy, practice, and service delivery. The Brown School, which offers a doctoral degree, a master of social work degree, as well as seven dual-degree programs, is home to five research centers:

DebtWave Credit Counseling Warns Consumers About the Newest Form of Identity Theft

DebtWave Credit Counseling Warns Consumers About the Newest Form of Identity Theft

The Internet has become a resource that has changed the way people do business, learn, and even communicate with one another. Unfortunately there are dishonest individuals that use the Internet to steal information from unsuspecting people. This new form of identity theft is called “phishing”. DebtWave Credit Counseling explains what phishing is and how consumers can protect themselves.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) March 21, 2006

Recently an individual was brought to justice for committing a crime that is referred to as “phishing”. What makes this story interesting is that the perpetrator is only a minor. This is evidence that these types of crimes are fairly simple to execute and requires nothing more than a computer and some programming skills.

Phishing is a technique used to gain personal information for purposes of identity theft, using fraudulent e-mail messages that appear to come from legitimate businesses. These authentic-looking messages are designed to fool recipients into divulging personal data such as account numbers, passwords, credit card numbers and Social Security numbers.

To make these phishing e-mail messages look even more genuine, the scam artists may place a link in them that appears to go to the legitimate website. The e-mail actually takes them to a phony scam site or possibly a pop-up window that looks exactly like the official site. These copycat sites are also called "spoofed" websites. Once an individual visits one of these spoofed sites, they might unwittingly send personal information to the con artists. The scam artists often use the stolen information to purchase goods, apply for a new credit cards, or otherwise steal identities.

The damage caused by phishing ranges from loss of email access to substantial financial loss. It is estimated that between May 2004 and May 2005, approximately 1.2 million computer users in the United States suffered losses caused by phishing, totaling approximately $929 million dollars. U. S. businesses lose an estimated $2 billion dollars per year as a result of their clients becoming victims.

According to the Identity Theft Resource Center, victims now spend an average of 600 hours recovering from this crime, often over a period of years. Based on 600 hours, victims lose nearly $16,000 in lost or realized income.

The following are ways in which individuals can protect themselves from being victimized by phishing:

-Do not reply or click on links from email or pop-up messages that ask for personal or financial information.

-Be sure to use anti-virus software and a firewall, and keep them up to date.

-Don’t email personal or financial information since emails are not a secure method of transmitting personal information.

-Be cautious about opening any attachment or downloading any files from emails, because these files can contain viruses or other software that can weaken a computer’s security.

General Motors Support Strengthens International Youth Service Movement

General Motors Support Strengthens International Youth Service Movement

Global Youth Service Day and SERVEnet Website Will Benefit from $160,000 Donation

WASHINGTON (PRWEB) March 10, 2005

Youth Service America today announced the contribution of $160,000 from the General Motors Foundation towards the 6th annual Global Youth Service Day (April 15-17, 2005) and SERVEnet, the largest database of volunteer opportunities, for people of all ages, on the Internet with more than 7,500 organizations registered needing 52+ million volunteers across the world. Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) is an annual event organized by Youth Service America with the Global Youth Action Network, together with a consortium of International Organizations and more than 100 National Coordinating Committees.

From Brazil and Colombia to Kenya and China, young people around the world are currently organizing community service projects in celebration of Global Youth Service Day. General MotorsÂ’s support is directly responsible for Global Youth Service DayÂ’s growth from 27 participating countries when it was launched in 2000 to more than 125 countries in 2004. Last year, for example, Russia engaged more than 340,000 youth throughout the country, up from 136,000 the previous year. In Afghanistan, three school groups built a library, held leadership camps, volunteer forums, and a drawing contest about children's hopes for the future. Projects planned for this year include construction of drinking wells, free medical consultations, walk-a-thons to raise funds for deprived children, and forums on youth and micro-enterprise development. 2005 marks the third consecutive year the GM Foundation is sponsoring Global Youth Service Day.

“With the help from General Motors, hundreds of thousands of volunteers will perform service across the world. The estimated value of their combined effort is priceless to those in need. However, if we were to assess a dollar value it would be well in the multi-millions based on the Independent Sector's current figure of $17.19 for hourly volunteer service," said Steven A. Culbertson, president and CEO of Youth Service America.

“Diversity is a dynamic that affects every aspect of GM’s business-suppliers, customers, dealers, communities and employees. Everyday, there are occasions and opportunities for diversity to enhance our relationships in every way,” said Lorna G. Utley, director of Diversity Initiatives and Philanthropy. “Volunteerism and community service is one of the best opportunities to practice diversity. Community service is key to GM’s diversity strategy because contributing to the community is a simple and powerful way to build relationships of trust, leverage differences, and establish connections. Done successfully, community service not only contributes to a more effective community, but it also allows employees of very diverse backgrounds to build a more effective team. The program of Global Youth Service Day is meeting these needs.”

Global Youth Service Day is a public education campaign that highlights the amazing contributions made by youth year-round to their communities through volunteering. Since Global Youth Service Day started in 2000, a number of international organizations have joined Youth Service America and Global Youth Action Network to expand this program, including the Inter-American Development Bank, Youth Employment Summit, IEARN, Service for Peace and others. In the United States, National Youth Service Day, also a program of Youth Service America, is part of Global Youth Service Day. For more information, visit: www. gysd. net.

GM Foundation support of Youth Service America has helped expand and improve SERVEnet. org, an award-winning program that leverages cutting-edge technology through the most comprehensive service and volunteering website on the Internet. Home to an expansive talent bank of potential volunteers, as well as an international database of more than 52 million volunteer opportunities, SERVEnet matches the skills, experience, and enthusiasm of volunteers of all ages with organizations that need their participation. With GMÂ’s support, Youth Service America will expand the capacity of the Talent Bank feature to meet the volunteering needs and skills of GM employees and offer specialized resources for young volunteers.

GM has long been one of the leading corporations in philanthropy in the United States. Through the GM Foundation, many organizations and activities are supported in the areas of education, health & human services, civic & community, arts & culture, and the environment. To recognize the time and talent GM employees devote through volunteerism in the communities where they work and live, GM has established GM Volunteer PLUS International, now active in 10 international locations. GM Volunteer PLUS International enables eligible employees to designate a grant from the GM Foundation to eligible organizations where employees volunteer their time.

General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM), the worldÂ’s largest automaker, has been the global industry sales leader since 1931. Founded in 1908, GM today employs about 324,000 people around the world. It has manufacturing operations in 32 countries and its vehicles are sold in 200 countries. In 2004, GM sold nearly 9 million cars and trucks globally, up 4 percent and the second-highest total in the companyÂ’s history. GMÂ’s global headquarters are at the GM Renaissance Center in Detroit. More information on GM can be found at www. gm. com.

Youth Service America is a national nonprofit resource center that partners with thousands of other organizations committed to growing the youth service movement. Youth Service AmericaÂ’s programs and services increase the effectiveness, sustainability, and scale of the youth service and service-learning fields on a local, national, and global level. In addition to National Youth Service Day and Global Youth Service Day, happening April 15-17, 2005, YSA also hosts SERVEnet (www. Your Environmental Road Trip (YERT) Celebrates the Completion of Eco-Adventure: 50 States in 52 Weeks

Your Environmental Road Trip (YERT) Celebrates the Completion of Eco-Adventure: 50 States in 52 Weeks

Celebrating green across the red, white and blue.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) July 8, 2008

Your Environmental Road Trip (YERT), an all-American eco-documentary project, completed its year-long odyssey on July 4, 2008. After exploring all 50 states in only 52 weeks, the YERT team has collected over 400 hours of footage and 800 interviews, but a mere 43 pounds of garbage...all of which confirm that this country may be environmentally challenged, but it is by no means doomed. The blog and video podcasts on the YERT team's website (www. yert. com) currently document just the tip of the iceberg. Now in the post-filming stage, YERT will continue to release podcasts as it explores opportunities for the footage to become a documentary, television series, or educational curriculum.

"We wanted to cut through all the 'green' hype and figure out what was really going on, from real people in real places who have real things to say. We learned that Americans care deeply about supporting the environment, but many are frustrated by the lack of truly green options to address their concerns," said Mark Dixon, co-founder of the project.

"And, with each new 'green-ish' product or service we move closer to 'over-greenification'—the backlash that comes when a word ceases to mean what it once meant. We risk building up a social immunity to the very movement that's trying to save us," added co-founder Ben Evans. "A giant 'green' SUV that gets 20 miles to the gallon isn't actually 'green'—it's barely 'chartreuse!' We're out to help real ideas and solutions see the light of day."

The YERT team, composed of Mark Dixon, Ben Evans, and Julie Evans, has often found itself knee-deep in environmental marvels. Interviews include eco-innovators such as Scott Brusaw of Solar Roadways and maverick farmer Joel Salatin of Michael Pollan's The Omnivore's Dilemma. Occasionally the team has created a stir. "YERT's video has turned me into a national and international phenomenon, man," said Matt Riggs, aka 'Eco Elvis'. "From their video I've gotten interest from Living on Earth, the BBC, CNN and the Discovery Channel's Planet Green. My limitless 'thank-you-very-muches' to their efforts!"

YERT will host a presentation of the project and its findings in both the San Francisco, CA, and Pittsburgh, PA, areas, where it will introduce 'awards' such as the greenest city, the smallest carbon footprint, and the person least likely to mourn peak-oil.

San Francisco, CA:
Date: July 11, 2008

Subscribers Now Taught How to Select Their Own Trading Signals

Subscribers Now Taught How to Select Their Own Trading Signals

OEX Options now provides comprehensive investment and trading advice with the goal of educating investors and encouraging self-reliance in the financial world.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) July 10, 2007

OEX Options now provides comprehensive investment and trading advice with the goal of educating investors and encouraging self-reliance in the financial world.

Investing can be complicated, but now OEX Options provides a simple way to learn everything you need to know in order to trade successfully. Floyd E, CEO of bluechipoptions. com and oexoptions. com, grew tired of the unreasonable claims from so many "option signal services," and the many statements and records on websites of extraordinary wins and few gains. Initially founding www. oexoptions. com as an "educational service," -- not to "protect against liability," as so many services do -- "Trader Floyd" instead wrote a 135-page "manual" for traders on how to trade the huge volume OEX (S and P 100 options) options, using simple puts and calls to buy, not sell. The system OEX Options uses is based on simple principles of supply and demand, and the support and resistance lines that occur daily and hourly around these options.

Both day traders and short term (up to 3 day hold maximum) traders have profited for years from Floyd's simple explanations of how the market "breathes," when to watch open interest on an option, when to play with the crowd and when to not. Not a contrarian, Floyd uses "trading with the trend" (which few traders really do, otherwise 80% would not lose money in the market) to identify simple signals to buy, when to sell and most importantly, when and how to stop loss.

At www. bluechipoptions. com, traders learn the same principles around the DJX (Dow options), SPX (S and P 500 options) and VIX (the "fear and greed" option index) and are taught how to choose their own signal around the same principles OEX Options has taught for years.

Private mentoring is available, and some subscription levels actually offer 7 day a week access to our lead trader to help analyze trading techniques, and work one on one to teach how to successfully trade index options (http://www. bluechipoptions. com).

About OEXOptions. com:
We are an OEX online stock options trading (http://www. oexoptions. com) company. Learn OEX options trading (http://www. oexoptions. com) with our exclusive OEX mentoring system. Our index options trading resource provides intraday options trading strategies on blue chip stocks.

“Pulse on America” Show to Feature Connecticut Global Fuel Cell Center

“Pulse on America” Show to Feature Connecticut Global Fuel Cell Center

"Fuel Cells & Alternative Energy: Engineering a Future We Can Live With - Now."

Deerfield Beach, FL (PRWEB) August 19, 2006

PTGTV is pleased to announce the selection of the Connecticut Global Fuel Cell Center for its innovative, educational television series, "Pulse on America." The Connecticut Global Fuel Cell Center will be featured in a segment on Fuel Cell Projects and Renewable Fuels in the Special Report Series. The featured segment is will address “Fuel Cells & Alternative Energy and the need to Engineer a Future We Can Live With – Now.”

Connecticut Global Fuel Cell Center (CGFCC) aims to combine the necessary elements of science, engineering and society to make fuel cells a feasible energy conversion technology for a “sustainable civilization.” The Center’s focal point is to be a leader in fuel cell research and engineering so that Connecticut will be the primary global venue for the fuel cell industry as well as providing fuel cell education, development and deployment.

Fuel cells convert energy from fuel directly into electrical energy. A fuel cell operates on a continuous basis as long as fuel and oxidant are supplied, unlike batteries that slowly lose their energy or discharge. Hydrogen is frequently used as the fuel so that the products of the fuel cell are only electricity, water and heat. Fuel cells are a highly efficient, clean, and reliable alternative to conventional electrical generators. When fossil fuel usage is being replaced by renewable energy sources, hydrogen will be used as an energy storage medium with fuel cells being the preferred means for generating electricity. The integration of fuel cells with environmental control devices (air conditioner, heat pump, hot water, emergency power) for a building will provide a significant cost reduction.

CGFCC began in 2001 as a partnership between the UCONN School of Engineering, Connecticut Innovations Inc., and Connecticut industry. With a new dedicated (16,000 square foot) building, dedicated chaired faculty positions, staff and state-of-the-art facilities, the Center is quickly becoming a leader in research, development, and commercial deployment of fuel cell engineering and technology. The CGFCC team already consists of over 40 faculty, 60 students, and over 35 industrial and government partners actively involved at the Center.

CGFCC plans on fulfilling its mission through cutting edge research and educating students. By providing a broad range of services that includes systems-to-science pure and applied research in fuel cell design and manufacturing, development, materials, fuels and reforming, and integration the Connecticut Global Fuel Cell Center is positioned to develop solutions that assist in bridging the gap between the science and technology of fuel cells and the fuel cell systems needed by our society.

SSRI Citizen announces antidepressant “Unsafe At Any Dose” national awareness campaign. Dangers of Paxil, Zoloft, Prozac and Effexor are targeted by group

SSRI Citizen announces antidepressant “Unsafe At Any Dose” national awareness campaign. Dangers of Paxil, Zoloft, Prozac and Effexor are targeted by group.

In a bold move reminiscent of Ralph Nader’s 1960’s “Unsafe At Any Speed” campaign a consumer activist group which calls itself “SSRI Citizen” has launched a national awareness campaign designed to educate the general public about the serious health risks associated with the use of popular antidepressants such as Paxil, Zoloft, Effexor and Prozac.

(PRWEB) August 11, 2004

In a bold move reminiscent of Ralph Nader’s 1960’s “Unsafe At Any Speed” campaign a consumer activist group which calls itself “SSRI Citizen” has launched a national awareness campaign designed to educate the general public about the serious health risks associated with the use of popular antidepressants such as Paxil, Zoloft, Effexor and Prozac.

The group’s web site (see http://www. ssriCitizen. org (http://www. ssriCitizen. org)) sells bumper stickers emblazoned with drug names followed by the warning ‘Unsafe At Any Dose’. “Our hope is the proliferation of the stickers will help raise public awareness of the dangers these drugs present and encourage people to visit our web site where they will discover drug safety information and other resources which heretofore have not been readily available to the consumer,” said Rob Robinson, the organization’s founder and spokesperson.

“Given the lengths we know pharmaceutical companies will go to guard the commercial profile of multi-billion dollar profit generators like Paxil, Zoloft, Effexor or Prozac it is surprising we haven’t been contacted by one of these companies."

The group is also challenging SSRI drug company promotions which position celebrities such as actress Delta Burke (Effexor) and former NFL star Terry Bradshaw (Paxil) as drug spokespersons. “These individuals, who are paid handsomely for the use of their name and influence, are not spelling out for the public the extraordinarily serious risks associated with their drug of choice,” Robinson said. “Its ‘Trojan horse’ marketing … get the pills into medicine cabinets of America using glitzy ads and slick Hollywood stars. But don’t tell the public what really might be lying-in-wait for them inside those innocent-looking pills.”

“The bottom line is these drug companies are driven by shareholders to increase sales of these drugs and thus increase profits,” Robinson said. “In the case of GlaxoSmithKline its ‘If we can make three billion dollars a year off Paxil … why not four, five or more?’ Its that kind of rationale that led to GSK’s pivotal role in the creation of another ‘Trojan horse’ marketing stratagem called ‘TMAP’ or the Texas Medication Algorithm Project. Through TMAP, GSK and other drug companies methodically compromised the decision making of elected and appointed public officials to gain access to captive populations of mentally ill individuals in prisons and state mental health hospitals.” For more information see http://www. ahrp. org/infomail/04/07/07.html (http://www. ahrp. org/infomail/04/07/07.html)

In another marketing ploy GlaxoSmithKline is using Terry Bradshaw to lead the Paxil marketing charge in a program called ‘The All-Stars at Work’ which targets ‘mental health in the workplace.’ “The ‘program’ is supported by an unrestricted ‘educational grant’ from GlaxoSmithKline,” Mr. Robinson said. “We considered sending Mr. Bradshaw a complimentary case of bumper stickers that say “Terry Bradshaw Says Eat More Paxil” to hand out to workers. Maybe it would make him think twice about his continued promotion of the drug. At least, we’d like to think so.”

Mr. Bradshaw is also traveling throughout the country under the aegis of GSK to promote the use of Paxil through a series of speeches, albeit without his former Paxil sidekick Ricky Williams. (Mr. Williams, another football star, parted company from GSK last year and was recently quoted in the press as saying ‘Marijuana is 10 times better for me than Paxil.’) The web site GSK formerly maintained for the duo at www. rickyandterry. com has vanished and been replaced by another dubbed www. terryinyourtown. com All mention of Mr. Williams has been expunged from GSK’s web site at www. gsk. com

“Although Mr. Bradshaw claims his GSK-backed ‘depression tour’ is ‘the coolest thing he’s ever done in his life’ his tour schedule is not posted at his web site. If you contact GSK or the public relations firm responsible for coordinating Mr. Bradshaw’s appearances all you get is an answering machine asking you to leave your contact information. But no one ever calls back,” Robinson said. “If Mr. Bradshaw’s promotion of Paxil is, as he puts it — ‘so cool’ — wouldn’t GSK want everyone in the world to know where Mr. Bradshaw is going to be, and when, so the public can have an opportunity to hear him talk about Paxil?”

SSRI Citizen is demonstrating against Mr. Bradshaw who is slated to speak in Chattanooga, Tennessee at the Trade Center on November 18th, 2004 from 6:00 p. m. E. S.T - 8:30 p. m. E. S.T. His topic will be "Why Not Be Your Best: The Winning Strategy of Conquering Depression." For more information contact Marianne Edwards at (423) 763-4626. Individual tickets are $65. A table for eight is $500. Paxil victims as well as families who lost a loved one to a Paxil-induced suicide are encouraged to attend and participate in the protest. Concerns over the planned protest have already caused the sponsor to cancel a book signing session that was to follow Mr. BradshawÂ’s speech.

The group’s public awareness campaign follows the announcement of a suit filed in June, 2004 by New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer which alleges Paxil’s manufacturer, GlaxoSmithKline, engaged in repeated and persistent fraud by concealing and failing to disclose to physicians critical information about Paxil’s safety and efficacy relative to its use in the pediatric population. “Doctors should have access to all scientifically sound information so that they can prescribe appropriate medication for their patients,” Spitzer said. "By concealing critically important scientific studies on Paxil, GSK impaired doctors' ability to make the appropriate prescribing decision for their patients and may have jeopardized their health and safety."

Other states may soon follow SpitzerÂ’s lead.

But Spitzer is late bringing Glaxo (et al) to the bar of justice. Previously, over 5,000 individuals in the United States and more than 2,500 in Britain have sued GlaxoSmithKline after they became addicted to Paxil — and then suffered what in many cases were severe and sometimes life-threatening drug withdrawals. “But for every individual represented by counsel there are probably a minimum of a hundred or more people who are not … but who should be. Many victims addicted to Paxil never grasp what has happened to them until they tried to stop taking the drug — and then could not do so without suffering severe withdrawal symptoms. And if they contacted GlaxoSmithKline for help they were advised the drug was not the problem,” Mr. Robinson said. “Yet in Britain GSK has dropped the claim on its patient leaflet saying Paxil is not addictive. Logically, one can only conclude the company knows and concedes that Paxil can be addictive. Why else would they drop the claim?”

In July, 2004 in another civil action involving SSRIs a suit was filed in California by attorneys Karen Barth-Menzies and Ronald Goldman on behalf of Roberta Madison, a nurse and doctor of Public Health, acting as a Private Attorney General. That suit alleges Zoloft’s maker, Pfizer, misled physicians and the public regarding Zoloft’s safety and efficacy, particularly with regard to suicidality and withdrawal symptoms caused by the drug. Ms. Barth–Menzies said “We have been trying for years to raise public awareness about these issues. We believe that the truth has been suppressed for too long and as a result there has been an enormous waste of money, thousands of people have been harmed by these drugs and many lives have been shattered. We hope this lawsuit will be a significant step toward exposing the fraud.”
