Consonus President Elected to Board of Directors at Kramden Institute

Bob McCarthy Committed to Helping North Carolina Based Charitable Organization Provide Refurbished Computers for Economically Disadvantaged Children

Cary, North Carolina (Vocus/PRWEB) January 12, 2011

Consonus President Bob McCarthy was recently elected to the Board of Directors at Kramden Institute, Inc., a 501c3 charitable organization whose mission is to empower economically disadvantaged students by giving them home computers that have been refurbished by volunteers.

“Bob’s extensive technology experience and affiliation with Consonus is a great fit for Kramden,” said Chairman of the Board and Co-Founder of Kramden Institute Mark Dibner. “We are excited to have Bob join the Board and look forward to his involvement in driving Kramden forward as we continue to grow and expand nationally.”

Kramden Institute is one of many charitable organizations supported by Consonus and a prime example of their commitment to good corporate citizenship. Consonus employee donations and corporate contributions have included: American Heart Association, Efforts for Haiti, Raleigh, NC Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, Share Our Shoes, and numerous local education and community projects.

“I am very pleased to become a member of the Kramden Board,” said McCarthy. “I believe that Consonus has an opportunity to make a significant contribution to Kramden Institute — it’s a perfect fit for us. As a technology company, Consonus has the resources and capabilities to support efforts that further Kramden’s mission.”

In 2011, Consonus is planning to host a Geek-a-Thon® event that brings together numerous volunteers to refurbish computers. Using a streamlined process perfected by Kramden, volunteers work to restore computers, getting them ready to donate to deserving students. Typically, 60% of the volunteers are adults and have a technology background. The remainder are students from the community.

Originally a small father-son project in the basement of a Durham, North Carolina home, Kramden Institute now has over 3,600 volunteers, generous donors, and thousands of corporate and personal equipment contributions that help hundreds of students receive computers each year. Recipients are awarded computers via a nomination process that offers principals, teachers, guidance councillors, and school social workers an opportunity to recognize hardworking students in need.

BROWSER E-BOOKS OFFER EXCITING FEATURES YOU CAN'T GET WITH TRADITIONAL BOOKS AND THEY DON'T REQUIRE A SPECIAL READER OR LONG DOWNLOAD TIMES

Antelope Publishing produces browser-readable books on CD-ROMs that include all the enhancements you expect when you surf the web; color, interactivity, animation and optional music and voice. You don't have to buy an expensive little book reader that has no other reason to exist. You can use any laptop or desktop computer with a CD-ROM drive and a web browser to read these books.

(PRWEB) November 26, 2003

We love books made of paper and agree that electronic books will never fully replace them, but paper books can't give you voice, music, animation and interactivity like e-books can.

Most of the Antelope Publishing e-books have suitable music for each of the chapters or you can read a version that has no music. Children's picture books have a "Read to Me" button so the children can hear the text as they read along. A child can select three versions; voice and music together, music only, or no sound. Some of the children's books have interactive games as well.

Antelope Publishing (www. antelope-ebooks. com) has books in a number of categories:

Children's Picture Books are designed with big, easy to follow navigation buttons, eye-catching illustrations, and text that teaches while entertaining. We try our hardest to make our books entertaining, uplifting and help the child in their physical, spiritual, and emotional development. We also publish a few "just for fun" stories.

Children's Story Books are written for a little older audience. These books are illustrated, fun and always have a happy-ever-after ending! They contain optional music to set the mood for each chapter and some have sound effects.

For folks of all ages Antelope Publishing offers a selection of old time stories and poems with the original pictures enhanced and brought to life with electronic media. These include out-of copyright stories such as Rebecca of Sunny Brook Farm, The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle, Spoon River Anthology and Daddy Long Legs.

Young Adult Novels are entertaining, and fast paced with positive role models.

Adult Fiction is written to lift the spirits, while capturing the imagination. Good does win out, but only after a few twists, turns and struggles.

Adult Nonfiction is written to lift the spirits, teach important skills and/or further physical, spiritual, or emotional development.

Many of Antelope Publishing authors have been previously published, but there are also new and exciting authors you'll find nowhere else.

Antelope Publishing also offers the reader free online stories in serial form at its Ongoing Tales site (www. ongoing-tales. com). Categories at this site include, romance, fantasy, science fiction, mystery and juvenile, and old-time children's literature.

Anyone wishing further information is invited to visit the Antelope Publishing website at: http://www. antelope-ebooks. com (http://www. antelope-ebooks. com)

About Antelope Publishing:

Antelope Publishing was started in 1995, by John and Joanne Rutis. John was a technical writer and software engineer. His wife, Joanne, was a fiction and non-fiction writer previously published in both traditional and electronic media.

Past experience with e-publishing and computers and the great multi-media possibilities led them to choose browser books on CD-ROM. They have professional, award winning artists, previously published authors, graphic artists, editors and a computer programmer in their family so electronic books just seemed the right thing to use and develop their talents and benefit readers.

Antelope is a family oriented company. They love what they do, and desire to do it well. They don't pump out a great number of titles (80+ so far) but what they do produce are attractive, quality e-books you'll be proud to own or give as gifts.

Antelope e-books have been shipped around the world to such countries as Japan, Norway, Spain and Portugal, as well as many to our friends in Canada. Our children's picture books have been used in schools for values education classes - and colleges have added our e-books to their library shelves.

A once little know (except in certain circles) organization goes mainstream "sort of". Changing lives, families, businesses and communities one member at a time

A once little know (except in certain circles) organization goes mainstream "sort of". Changing lives, families, businesses and communities one member at a time.

A fifth generation super achiever creates the world's leading free enterprise residency program, delivered via a federally approved accelerated learning process he invented.

(PRWEB) March 1, 2004

It all began for me quite by accident probably as it's happened for the 14,000 or so members world wide. I was attending an event of a friend of mine, a best-selling author Speaker, trainer in the area of success. The event was attended by mostly CEO's of varying size companies and fields, following the event I struck up a conversation with the gentleman seated next to me. Invariably as usually happens in these types of situations the conversation turns to and what do you do, I went on to explain that I had relocated and was looking at several opportunities but that nothing really interested me. It was at that point that my circumstances would begin to change forever, he went on to explain to me how this organization had changed not only his business but his personal life for the better.

He told me of an organization whose members Span the U. S. and abroad, he spoke of the secret knowledge, MIT's, sequencing, visioning and cooperation versus competition models. I have to admit that at the time although I had a fair amount of success, having started three separate businesses and worked for a couple of global companies.

Most of what he was saying was new to me not to mention fascinating, I had always loved learning, knowledge, it was the delivery methods that bored me. As a result most of my learning took place after I entered the work field as an adult I studied business, International Trade, design, securities, Language and a few other areas of interest to me at the time.

As the conversation evolved he told me about the founder how he started out to be a Monk and wound up continuing his father's life work instead. How his father Alan G. Dohrmann a pioneer of accelerated learning, what is today known as the multibillion-dollar mind industry was personal coach and mentor to Walt Disney, Buckminster Fuller, Napoleon Hill, Dr. Edward Deming, President John F. Kennedy and a host of others. His involvement in the development of most of the major personal growth programs of the second half of the 20th-century, including Life Spring and PSI world are still practiced today. After Dohrmann's death in 1983 his son Bernhard continued the work and is now president of the International Learning Trust(ILT),a public service foundation whose mission is to install 1 million SuperTeaching classrooms around the world.

The ILT launched a showcase in 1991 so educators, corporations and governments could view SuperTeaching in action. this showcase, which is now better known as IBI Global's free Enterprise Forum, which takes place five times a year. In 2001, the ILT contracted with a leading installer of classroom technology, ICI, to market, install and support SuperTeaching. ICI created a division specifically for this purpose: ST concepts.

Today's fast pace media greatly inpacts how MTV - generation children learn. TV programming is many times faster than it was a decade ago, multi-information streams, quick scene changes, interwoven plots, interspersed dramas with music videos. Movies, video games, and internet flood the entire body with heightened visual, and kinesthetic stimulation.

The slower paced environment of a typical classrooms is hardly a match for the kind of stimulation young people require to remain attentive today. with minds trained to work quickly it's easy to see how children might have a difficult time staying focused while the teacher, writes on a chalkboard.

SuperTeaching utilizes the brain's natural propensity for experienced multiple sensory input. lessons are given via three large screens displaying different randomly changing images-all of which support the lesson while keeping an active mind engaged.

As the lesson begins, all three screens simultaneously fill with an interactive video. Re-enactment of important historical significance unfold in the center screen, while two other scenes appear on the outer screens. Important language spoken by the historical figure is then typed by the teacher and displayed on the left screen as a reinforcement.

Other supporting materials are randomly displayed while video continues: more scenes, more reenforcing key points, with live shots of the students participating in class which creates a self-governing student body at their best behavior. Knowing that your every move will be caught live on the screen for all the world to see, reinforces discipline and Foster's co-operation between student and teachers.

Acceleration, retention are improved scores are the end result.

During the lesson, students vote on possible outcomes encouraging them to look for parallels in today's news and in their own lives, which adds to their growing mental and emotional involvement. The teacher separates the class into three teams one for each of the three outcomes.

Each team then, is to develop a presentation in order to convince the rest of the class of its position. The teams are so engaged in their plans, they don't hear the bell signaling the ending period.

With the teachers assistance, teens are permitted to use SuperTeaching for their presentation. they can use the Internet, powerpoint slides, paintings, CD's and music videos, information stored in the SuperTeaching virtual communities etc.

This is the same technology used to deliver the MBA level skills sets taught at the Forum. Considering that MBA's have a life span of approximately five years, I was impressed to learn that professors from top universities and chambers endorse it.

The range and depth of IBI would take volumes to fill. The level of commitment high integrity, ethics I experience sold me on being a lifetime member. I've seen everything from a napkin idea turn mega, to holistic, sciences, artist and entertainment, fortune 500 companies, writers - speakers, authors, investors, celebrities, inventors, people in transition and everything in between.

All working together in a spirit of cooperation and trust, the secret to IBI Global success.

Originally created as a CEO to CEO residency retreat, the word slowly got out and after many request, it was

Agreed that the forum would be open to anyone with a dream the determination and commitment to work in trust and cooperation.

Much of the original structure remains in place, such as the CEO pacing (breaks to allow for running of the Business back home)by internet, phone, fax, teleconference etc.. all avilable at the host Hotel.

The Directory" in an age when Networking is the Prime resource for income builders having what amounts to a multi-Million Dollar rolodex of the names, numbers, addresses, e-mail of every member trainer, coach in your class, would take most people a lifetime to create.

Of course the First years tax deduction which begins when you enroll applies to everyone.

The on going support starts and continues for as long as you need it, something else that sold me.

Unlike the semminars I had attended in the past, the IBIGlobal process was a transactional one as oppsed to a lot of theory.

Deals are being made, plans are being drawn up, capital is being raised, partnerships - alliances and every thing in between. And to make sure everything is in strict accordance with the law Attorneys are on hand to draw up the papers and make sure everyone is in compliance, during your time there you even have free access to legal counsel,"when is the last time you sat with an Intellectual property attorney, patent, corporate

Or securities, tax attorney and not worry about the clock.

The IBI Network represents the oldest most mature B TO B network in existance today

IBI is a one-of-a-kind rich resources where like-minded people from all walks of life and industries come together to achieve their dreams.

It is a place where couples rekindle their relationships fall in love again, and even save their marriages.

It is a place where parents have gotten their children back, hundreds of teen suicides have been prevented, drug and alcohol abuse stopped.

Once a year IBI holds a teen program whereby they will subsidize the cost of the program for about $900.00 dollars per student including meals.

Sponsorship at the corporate or private level is always welcome, the more youth we can reach and empower the better the future will be for us all.

IBI believes kids should own the restaurant instead of working in one, who else teaches that.

But some parents cant wait and decide to bring them along, at first the teens dont quite know what to make of it, but after a couple of days of being around a large group of high energy positive people. They start to come around and start excepting the Adults as part of there extended family, by then the child is fully engaged, and is feeling good about themselves with a new outlook and generally a greater appreciation of adults.

Over 90 percent of the cost for a lifetime membership goes to cover the expenses of putting on the residency, their highest paid corporate executive makes less than a hundred thousand a year. Mr. Dohrmann himself draws no salary, clearly a labor of love and a homage to his father.

Mr. Dohrmann is a fifth generation Super Achiever who grew up as the oldest of nine children surrounded by his father's colleagues, he learned skill sets and life lessons from an early age.

After deciding not to be a Monk, young Dohrmann went on to become a great entrepreneur and was running five companies at the same time.

The smallest company was producing $5 million per month while his largest company produced $50 million per month, and employed 7,000 agents in 14 countries, a feat when you consider he was only in his early 20s.

Mr. Dohrmann went on to become an investment banker, fortune trainer, $30,000 day consultant, inventor of SuperTeaching, a broker, author, Speaker, fine art broker, founder of IBI, father and mentor to now thousands of individuals worldwide.

Mr. Dohrmann is considered by Forune 500 Company Trainers to be an expert on the subject of income acceleration training.

Some of the more familiar success stories to come out of IBI would be Robert Kyosaki (Rich dad poor Dad), Dr. John Gray of (Mars / Venus), Mark Victor Hansen & Dr. Jack Canfield and there 700 million best seller Chicken Soup For The Soul Series),Dr. Leo Poulis (Spagetti Factory),Robert Allen (One Minute Millionaire - Nothing Down),Jay Abraham (Marketing Genius) are some of the people who have been thru IBI's Free Enterprise Forum.

Myself I'm looking forward to learning and sitting with Dr. John Gray at the March Forum.

Mr. Bernhard Dohrmann's latest books are: Super Achiever Mindsets / Perfection Can Be Had / and soon to-be released / Redemption

Copies of Super Achiever Mindsets as a tool for peak performance are currently being read at the White House from the President on down, and the Vaticans Pope John Paul has a copy as well.

There has also been talk circulating about a movie based on his life.

Today I am fortunate enough to be Part of the organization whose mission it is to restore educate and teach free enterprise.

If you believe in the free enterprise system in the education of our youth, in the restoration of family and state.

Working in cooperation not competition, and are teachable I invite you to to experience a one-of-a-kind organization.

The faculty of fortune trainers 30 to 50 of them pay their own way to come and teach the latest systems, methods and technologies for the benefit of those in attendance.

These fortune trainers and coaches would not be accessible to 90 plus % of us since their rates average $30,000 to 50,000 per day.

Many of these are the same trainers coaches to corporations such as WalMart, Starbucks, Target, Microsoft, 3M, Continental Airlines and many others.

They come to give back during 2 hour scheduled breakfast, lunch, dinner times, between breaks and private one on ones, they take advantage of class periods to meet with other faculty and conduct their own business.

The next residency will likely be the largest since December and the largest in five years, all indicating the ending of a three-year recession as previously predicted by Mr. Dohrmann. This residency also promises to be one of the richest with many large investors members from Japan the Soviet Union and New Zealand. The next Forum Is just days away, on March 2nd.

New York, NY (PRWEB) December 11, 2007

10 Resolutions That Show Your Kids You Care, www. TimeToTalk. org]

1. Teach your children to trust you by seeing you as a role model.
2. Be patient, not just tolerant. Apologize when you make a mistake or do something you regret.
3. Ask teens what they need from you -- and do whatever you can to meet those needs.
4. Listen to your teens, a lot. Avoid interrupting.
5. Teach your children about ethics, values and principles they can apply in choices and decision-making.
6. Help them discover the feeling of gratitude, not just to say thank you.
7. Keep the promises you make. If you do not keep your word, acknowledge that. Help your teen understand the circumstances or choices that precipitated the change in your plans.
8. Answer your teen's questions and be consistent. When you notice behavioral changes in them, make yourself available and encourage them to talk about what is going on in their life.
9. Be understanding when they have a difficult time and let them know you will love them no matter what.
10. Be diligent. Have ongoing conversations with your kids about the risks of drugs and alcohol.

Don't Get Caught Unprepared for Bird Flu in 2006, Says Health Author

New edition of bird flu preparation book includes specifics on planning for a national pandemic, strategies for surviving the flu, and details on how to prepare for a crisis without spending a fortune.

Tucson, AZ (PRWEB) January 5, 2006

The year 2005 is over, but a deadly outbreak of the bird flu is still a top concern for health officials around the world. Consumers wanting to prepare for an influenza pandemic can now find effective strategies in "How to Beat the Bird Flu" by holistic health author Mike Adams. The recently released second edition of the book includes 60 pages about planning for a pandemic, and what to expect if one occurs. In addition, the guide provides holistic remedies that help prevent the flu and reduce the length of symptoms. "How to Beat the Bird Flu" is available as a downloadable or softcover book at http://truthpublishing. com/beatthebirdflu. html (http://truthpublishing. com/beatthebirdflu. html).

"President Bush recently announced that 30% of Americans could fall sick in an influenza pandemic, causing a severe shortage of workers," said Adams. "This could mean that even basic services such as water and electricity will not be available. 'How to Beat the Bird Flu' gives readers in-depth information about what to have in their homes in order to be able to make it through this type of catastrophe."

In "How to Beat the Bird Flu" readers will learn:

· Seven antiviral superfoods that should be a part of any flu prevention plan

· The top 12 antiviral herbs

· Critical emergency medical supplies every home needs

· What to do in case of a power outage

· How to prepare for a crisis without spending a fortune

Should an avian influenza outbreak happen this year, the World Health Organization expects the virus to spread rapidly, leaving little time to prepare. However, readers who follow the tips presented in "How to Beat the Bird Flu" will already have basic necessities for surviving the pandemic. This helpful consumer guide can be found at http://truthpublishing. com/beatthebirdflu. html (http://truthpublishing. com/beatthebirdflu. html).

Wichita Author Publishes New Book about Marriage and Relationships

Wichita Author Publishes New Book about Marriage and Relationships

This insightful book explores what it means to cultivate a true Christian marriage in the aftermath of divorce

Wichita, KS (Vocus) September 28, 2010

Lies the Church Told Me About Marriage and Relationships, a new book by Terrell D. Davis, has been released by Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc.

Lies the Church Told Me About Marriage and Relationships offers an insightful and biblically sound consideration of what it means to cultivate a true Christian marriage, particularly in the aftermath of divorce.

Written by a pastor who has himself experienced the tragedy of a failed marriage, this thoughtful work explores the common misperceptions perpetuated by teachings within churches and encourages believers to look ahead to the future with a new, God-centered perspective. Seeking a partner who attends church is not enough; even seeking another Christian is not enough. International Music Competition Selects University Professor to Record with London Symphony Orchestra

International Music Competition Selects University Professor to Record with London Symphony Orchestra

NOTION Music Names Mark E. Wilson as Grand Prize Winner, Realize Music Challenge

Greensboro, NC (Vocus) September 17, 2008

NOTION Music has announced that Dr. Mark Edwards Wilson, on the faculty of the School of Music at the University of Maryland, is the grand prize winner of the company's second Realize Music Challenge (http://www. notionmusic. com/contest/)], an annual orchestral composition competition that draws entries from composers across the globe.

As the grand prize winner, Wilson receives a paid trip for two to London to be at Abbey Road Studios when the London Symphony Orchestra records his composition. In addition, he receives a cash prize of $2,500.

"Musicians from all over the world used NOTION software to compose their entries," said Jim Boitnott, President, NOTION Music. "We were especially happy with the diverse nature of the entries, ranging from lightly orchestrated minimalistic compositions to very complex large orchestral works - with an overall quality that exceeded last year's submissions."

Wilson has had his compositions performed and recorded around the world, from the Kennedy Center to the Kiev Philharmonic. From his home in Bowie, Maryland, Wilson commented on his latest award: "This opportunity comes at a particularly important juncture in my development as a composer. 'The Phoenix Rising' is among the first works that I have composed using what has become for me a radically new style emphasizing the dramatic narrative. It has inspired my renewed passion for the symphony orchestra with its myriad colors, visceral power, and unrivaled richness."

"The Phoenix Rising" was the first composition Wilson completed using NOTION software. "The first time I used NOTION I was immediately impressed with its streamlined efficiency. It is very direct, easy to learn, and, above all logical," he says. "Their samples are acoustically clear and allow one to easily perceive even complex textures. This is first-rate music software."

Finalists in three other categories were selected in recognition for their composition skill. All three Finalists receive a $1,000 cash prize.
Professional (published) composers category: David Coscina, from Ontario, Canada, was chosen for the Finalist award in this contestant category with his composition "Musashi Suite for Orchestra."  Emerging (unpublished) composers category: John McIntyre, also from Canada, received the Finalist award in this category for "Festive Overture."  Young (under 18) composers category: Matt Webster of Canberra, A. C.T., Australia, captured the Finalist prize in this category with his "March of the Ants."

Also named are nine runner-up winners (three in each contestant category):

Young Composers: Adam Violaris (London, United Kingdom) "Appalachian Trail"; Anthony Blackman (Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada) "Largo and Vivace for Strings"; and Jules Pegram (Greensboro, North Carolina) "Earthquake!"  Emerging Composers: Richard Birdsall (Thornaby, Stockton on Tees, United Kingdom) "Enigma"; Phillip Martin (Scarsdale, New York) "Sarabandoid"; and Jacob Kirk (St. Augustine, Florida) "Paul's Travails."  Professional Composers: Vincent Oppido (East Meadow, New York) "Celebrations: for Leonard Slatkin"; Mike Pettry (Astoria, New York) "Requiem"; and Ricardo Iznaola (Denver, Colorado) "In the Eyes, a Silver Dagger." Each runner-up winner receives five NOTION expansion sound kits of their choosing.

The expert panel of judges who selected the top winners represented concert hall, motion picture, and education settings. John Corigliano, one of the most widely recognized American composers today, has won several awards, including Grammy and Academy awards - and a Pulitzer Prize. Carter Burwell, an in-demand Hollywood composer, has over 65 motion picture titles to his credit, including A Knight's Tale, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and It Could Happen to You. Lawrence Dillon, an esteemed educator and an internationally acclaimed composer (the youngest to complete a doctorate at Juilliard), has a broad portfolio of works - from solo pieces to full-length opera.

Composers from all walks of life created and submitted entries between November 2007 and the end of May 2008, and the judging concluded in August. NOTION Music plans to release details about the next Realize Music Challenge, renamed the NOTION Music Challenge, later this year.

Springboard Celebrates National Homeownership Month in New Homeownership Center in Riverside, California

Springboard Celebrates National Homeownership Month in New Homeownership Center in Riverside, California

Springboard Nonprofit Consumer Credit Management, a HUD-approved credit and housing counseling agency, offers free class for those looking to buy or refinance a home at their new homeownership center in Riverside, California. Springboard offers housing counseling, monthly homebuyer education seminars, foreclosure prevention counseling, landlord/tenant counseling, post homebuyer education and reverse mortgage counseling as part of its comprehensive housing counseling program.

Riverside, CA (PRWEB) June 10, 2008

Springboard Nonprofit Consumer Credit Management kicks off National Homeownership Month at the company's new SHINE Center, which stands for "Sustaining Homeownership in the Inland Empire". Springboard will hold their monthly free homebuyer education class this Saturday, June 14. Class time will be 9 a. m. to 5 p. m., at the SHINE Center located at 1605 Spruce Street, Suite 100. Seating is limited, so those interested in attending can call 951-781-0114 x7820 or email education @ credit. org to receive more information or reserve a place.

"The most important decision homebuyers will make is not which house to buy, but rather which loan is best for their budget and their needs," said Todd Emerson, President & CEO Springboard. "Our goal in this class is to educate consumers so they better understand what goes into owning a home, the home buying process, and how much they can truly afford when considering a home purchase or refinancing. Information covered in the class will help families manage their money well and stay in their homes for a long time," Emerson said.

Homebuyer education is an important part of Springboard's ongoing commitment to helping consumers achieve the dream of homeownership. Prospective buyers can learn about what makes up a mortgage loan, how to compare different mortgage products, how to work with lenders and real estate professionals, and how to find a home and a loan that are right for their needs. The class is approved by HUD, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and completion of the 8-hour course may count towards educational requirements for local homebuyer assistance programs.

For homeowners facing the possibility of foreclosure, Springboard also offers free foreclosure prevention counseling where consumers are made aware of the options and solutions that are available to help them avoid foreclosure. Springboard is not a lender, but a HUD approved comprehensive housing counseling agency.

Springboard offers housing counseling, monthly homebuyer education seminars, foreclosure prevention counseling, landlord/tenant counseling, post homebuyer education and reverse mortgage counseling. Health At Every Size News for October 2006

Health At Every Size News for October 2006

Current news and events from experts of Health At Every Size, a weight-neutral approach to good health that focuses on behavior, not BMI.

Bowling Green, OH (PRWEB) October 4, 2006

Yahoo! is the first major internet provider to strike a blow for fat civil rights online. Groups that work for an end to weight-based discrimination have long used Yahoo! Groups for internet-based community building. These communications have been interrupted by weight-loss ads that are anathema to our health beliefs and civil rights purpose. In Health At Every Size, we recognize that weight-loss goals lead to poor nutrition and exercise habits, weight cycling (losing and regaining), eating disorders, and other health risks. Instead, we focus on enjoying health-enhancing habits (like good nutrition and regular exercise) for their own sake.

Love Your Body Day

The 9th annual Love Your Body Day is October 18. Love Your Body Day was created in 1998 by NOW (National Organization of Women) Foundation’s Women’s Health Project as “a national day of action to speak out against advertisements and images of women that are harmful, offensive, disrespectful and demeaning.” Love Your Body Day activities promote a positive body image and encourage women to love and celebrate their bodies. Health practitioners with a Health At Every Size philosophy have embraced this event as a day to plan an activity that shows the relationship between good health and loving your body.

Math Goes Green: Custom Software by Nagarro Runs First Paperless Moody’s Mega Math Challenge

Math Goes Green: Custom Software by Nagarro Runs First Paperless Moody’s Mega Math Challenge

Nagarro, Inc., a high-end software development firm specializing in complex projects, today announced that it has built a custom software product used to automate the first phase of the judging process of the fifth annual Moody’s Mega Math Challenge http://m3challenge. siam. org, an internet-based applied mathematics competition for high school students. Nagarro was sought out by the contest organizer, Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), to design and develop a paperless software product to manage a complex, multi-tiered system used to judge hundreds submissions to the contest.

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) June 2, 2010

News Facts:
SIAM has successfully implemented a custom software product designed by Nagarro to automate the judging process of the 2010 Moody’s Mega Math Challenge. This year, more than 500 teams of high school math students are competing for scholarships totaling $100,000, with a grand prize of a $20,000 scholarship to be shared among members of the winning team. The submissions – which contain up to 20 pages of text, charts, graphs, tables and equations – were judged among seven teams of PhD-level professional applied mathematicians. Over a period of 20 days, each submission was evaluated by multiple judges who were able to view submissions online and remotely at their own convenience, thus eliminating printing, mailing and redistribution of printed hard copies. In order to deal with the increasing number of submissions and judges spanning a greater geographic area, SIAM enlisted Nagarro to design, build and implement custom software to manage the first round of the judging process for the contest. The new system created by Nagarro logs, tracks, calibrates and calculates the scoring of each submission online; provides judging instructions and relevant background for each judge; ensures complete password-protected confidentiality of all entries; captures judges’ comments clearly and legibly; and enables judges to participate remotely and forward submissions to other judges electronically in order to meet critical deadlines. Prior to implementing the custom software developed by Nagarro, the judging process for the contest was primarily manual and paper-based. Though the previous system was effective, it had become increasingly time-consuming to administer within the proscribed timeframe as the Moody’s Mega Math Challenge grew each year. In addition to making the process more scalable, SIAM also wanted to dramatically reduce the environmental impact of paper and shipping related to the submission and judging processes. Nagarro’s solution was developed in Microsoft® SharePoint® in order to allow for future growth, enhancements, and integration or incorporation of other supporting systems such as participant registration and management; competition problem distribution; and the uploading of solution papers. Based on the success of this year’s judging process to date, SIAM is outlining plans for a future version of the software which will also include enhanced real-time dashboard functionality, alert systems and automated reporting features.

Quotes:
“Nagarro shares SIAM’s appreciation of math concepts and the type of content we are dealing with. Not only did Nagarro have a vision for an advanced SharePoint solution, its engineers had the skills and experience to implement it expertly. Nagarro acted as a strategic partner to help us shift our entire IT culture from reactive to proactive.” -- Ted Kull, Director of IT, SIAM

“Nagarro is proud to partner with SIAM to create opportunities for young people in the field of applied mathematics, an effort which ties in with our longstanding support for educational and academic organizations. Moreover, it is gratifying to see the direct impact our software will have on the environment. We commend SIAM for proactively seeking paperless systems as eco-friendly alternative to manual processes.” -- Vikas Sehgal, CEO, Nagarro Inc.

SMART Technology Aids Innovative Literacy Project

SMART Technology Aids Innovative Literacy Project

Six SMART Board interactive whiteboards have been installed in pilot schools across South Africa as part of an innovative project to improve literacy.

(PRWEB) July 30, 2008

Interactive whiteboards in South African schools add impetus to THRASS project

Six SMART Board interactive whiteboards have been installed in pilot schools across South Africa as part of an innovative project to improve literacy.

Five of the boards were donated to schools by financial services company Absa Bank, a member of the Barclays Group, as part of the THRASS Absa TalkTogether Project, and one was jointly sponsored by THRASS, SMART Technologies and its southern Africa distributor Edge Interactive.

SMART Technologies has teamed up with THRASS UK to bring the latest educational technology to assist learners, whose home language is not English, to speak the language. The THRASS Phoneme Machine is a ground-breaking computer programme that uses the international phonetic alphabetic and moving human lips to demonstrate the pronunciation of sounds and hundreds of frequently used English words.

Chief operating officer of Absa New Business Cluster, Nicholas Young says the donation of the SMART Board interactive whiteboards to five schools was in keeping with the approach to establish pilot sites as model centres for the TalkTogether Project. These schools are spread across the country and located close to participating universities that have foundation phase teaching as part of their teacher training programmes.

The installation of the SMART Board interactive whiteboards and training of the teachers to use the technology was done by SMART resellers in South Africa, Compute Corporate Technology Solutions and Edit Microsystems.

Young says he expects the boards through their interactive aspects to enhance both the learning and teaching experience.

"The boards provide the project with the best-case scenario technology platform. We believe there is benefit to be derived from the use of the technology as it allows for the use of all the enhanced and interactive elements of the THRASS methodology. By providing the TalkTogether Schools with leading technology we eliminate infrastructure as a variable in increasing literacy as compared with other more privileged schools with more funding."

He said Absa would consider additional donations of SMART Board interactive whiteboards, based on the expansion of model centres for the project.

The educational partnership between Absa and THRASS aims to revolutionise the teaching and learning of English in South Africa through partnerships between primary schools, universities and other organisations. British educational psychologist, Alan Davies, executive director of THRASS UK, pioneered the programme to Teach Handwriting Reading and Spelling Skills (THRASS).

The five model centres referred to as TalkTogether Schools are Roseneath Primary School, Johannesburg; Eendracht Primary School, Pretoria; Sunlands Primary School, Cape Town; George Randell Primary School, East London; and Clairwood Boys Primary School, Durban. The SMART/Edge donated board was installed at Masibambane College in Orange Farm, south of Johannesburg, and is a Centre of Excellence for the THRASS programme.

The principal of Sunlands Primary School, Alta van Heerden, says the SMART Board interactive whiteboard was installed at the school last September. All the school's educators have been trained in the THRASS programme as part of the TalkTogether Project and, and learners have responded favourably to the interactive nature of the lessons.

The Cape Peninsula University of Technology has taken on THRASS as a research programme and each week up to 120 final year student teachers spend an hour at the school teaching THRASS to small groups of learners.

Hilton Williams, principal of East London's George Randall Primary School, said learners "are loving" the use of the interactive whiteboards in learning to properly pronounce English words. Student teachers from the University of Fort Hare are working with his learners as part of the TalkTogether Project association.

Former Principal of Masibambane College, Mr Darryl Geffen, said the children were able to learn and interact in an audio-visual classroom which makes teaching and learning of the English language easier for everyone. In addition to the core school programme, the interactive whiteboard is being used for community educational projects.

Carol Jeal, who trained Gauteng educators in the use of the SMART Board interactive whiteboards for the THRASS project, believes that SMART's Screen, Shade and Spotlight are tools which are well suited to the language programme's use of the interactive whiteboards, and that most creative teachers would be able to use the Notebook software to revise and assess work completed using THRASS.

"Most teachers feel that the SMART interactive whiteboard will enhance their teaching," she said.

Prostate Cancer Victim Warns CA Workers & Challenges Governor’s Accountability

Prostate Cancer Victim Warns CA Workers & Challenges Governor’s Accountability

Stephen Williams, a prostate cancer victim and former California State worker, lost his job from the California Employment Development Department while on leave for cancer surgery. Williams has tried unsuccesfully to schedule a meeting with Governor Arnold Schwarzenneger to learn why the EDD management and legal branch violated his Family Medical Leave Act Rights. Williams is holding a Prostate Cancer Awareness rally at the Capitol in Sacramento on October 28, 2005, 11:00AM to 2:00PM to help raise awareness for Prostate Cancer and FMLA/CFRA rights.

Carmichael, CA (PRWEB) October 23, 2005

"My story could become your story," said Stephen Williams. "I don’t think Action Arnold should be running around the country scalping Rolling Stones tickets and sponsoring special interest fund-raisers, when there’s so much work he should be doing right here in California.”

Stephen Williams is a prostate cancer victim and former California State worker who was AWOL separated from the California State Employment Development Department (EDD) while on leave for prostate cancer surgery. Williams wants to get the word out that if a person has a serious health condition they should inform their management so that their job is protected under the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Prostate cancer falls under the serious health condition. California has its own version of FMLA, which is the California Family Rights Act (CFRA).

The keys to successful outcomes for prostate cancer are education, information, screening, early detection, and proper followup treatment. Williams states, “There is a simple blood test (PSA) that men should be taking. The age at which we should begin screening for these types of cancers keeps dropping. People should be consulting with their health care professionals for specific times to begin screening. The PSA blood test will provide an initial indication to health care providers, however, it should be followed by periodic physical examination.”

Williams said, “PSA blood testing and follow up physical testing may ultimately have saved my life, but that remains to be seen.” Williams believes we still have far to go in educating the public. Williams says, “First of all, let’s make sure our Administrative Law Judges (ALJ) know how to spell and pronounce the word. The word is Prostate, one ‘R’. Prostate cancer is cancer of the prostate gland.” In a recent legal opinion, one of the ALJ’s wrote “prostrate”, repeatedly. Williams was horrified. It is Williams’ opinion that if an ALJ can’t spell it, they shouldn’t be allowed to make a ruling.

Williams said, “I was off work a total of three weeks for cancer surgery and recovery, and I was accused of abandoning my job. I’ve tried to meet with the governor. I’ve written him letters. I want to know why the Family Medical Leave Act did not protect my job.” Williams thinks that California State government may have been violating California workers’ rights for over ten years.

In a response to one letter Williams wrote to Governor Schwarzenegger, the governor passed the letter to the Acting Chief of personnel for EDD. In the response to that letter EDD stated that they had made an “an error” with Mr. Williams COBRA rights. To date, a remedy has not been negotiated and Mr. Williams remains without medical health coverage. “I guess some people thought I was going to die....but, hey! I’m still alive. Arnold, who’s watching the store, and where’s the government accountability you promised?”

MiniMeGeology. com Finds a Unique Blend of Fun, Education, and e-Commerce for Kids and Parents

MiniMeGeology. com Finds a Unique Blend of Fun, Education, and e-Commerce for Kids and Parents

The new Web site, www. MiniMeGeology. com uniquely combines the sale of rocks, minerals and other geology related toys with free educational information, free puzzles and free access to the siteÂ’s personal geologist. MiniMeGeology. com has become the new destination for kids and parents who want quality science toys and fun, easy-to-understand information.

Mt. Pleasant, S. C. (PRWEB) September 12, 2007

The days of informational versus e-commerce Web sites are fading fast with the launch of MiniMeGeology. com, where kids and parents can join together for a fun and educational Internet experience.

Recently launched, MiniMeGeology. com is a unique Web site that was designed specifically for kids who are interested in geology, rocks and minerals and parents who are looking for high-quality educational toys and games that are also fun for their kids.

The uniqueness of the site comes from a blend of the fun site design, free downloadable puzzles, and specially designed “Rockin’ Collections” of rocks and minerals, with access to free educational information about geology and paleontology and the ability for kids and parents to interact with the Web site’s personal geologist.

“Our site is specifically designed for kids because there are so many neat things about rocks and minerals that young kids can understand without gimmicks and without being bored,” says Tracy Barnhart, owner of the site. “Kids are fascinated by rocks and fossils and our mission is educating through fun products and a fun Web site.”

MiniMeGeology. com is not just for elementary school children though; kids of all ages are encouraged to write in to the site through the “Ask-a-Geologist” feature for help with class projects or homework. Submitted questions are posted on the Web site so that kids can get their answer and others can benefit as well. Each question is answered by the Web site’s professional geologist who uses terms and concepts that children can understand.

Visitors to the site can also sign up for the “Mini Me Geology” newsletter which periodically sends out product information and special savings offers and publishes a monthly “Rockland Gazette” which contains articles about rocks and minerals, and related geology topics such as earthquakes and volcanoes. It also provides interviews with working geologists who discuss their jobs and their favorite aspects of geology.

“Because the site is geared for kids, we also offer free dinosaur tattoos with each order. We hope that the excitement of that little something extra in the box will make a child’s day a little more fun,” Barnhart said.

For additional information, contact Tracy Barnhart at 843-216-8189 or visit www. minimegeology. com. Mini Me Geology’s own “My Rockin’ Collections” are available for minerals, igneous rocks, metamorphic rocks and sedimentary rocks. Individual rock and mineral samples, crystal science kits, volcano making kits and dinosaur toys are also available through the Web site.

Home Owners Facing Foreclosure Have Options When Struggling to Keep Their Home

Home Owners Facing Foreclosure Have Options When Struggling to Keep Their Home

Home owners facing foreclosure need to know all the options they have available. SavingHomesUSA provides educational seminars, free mortgage review and negotiation services to home owners facing the prospect of losing their home to foreclosure.

Westchester, IL (PRWEB) August 17, 2004 -

Lord & Lesniewicz announced today that it is launching a campaign throughout the Midwest to educate consumers on their options when facing home foreclosure and allow them to keep their homes.

“After seeing friends go through the pain and anguish of mortgage foreclosure, we decided that there had to be a better way,’ said Cherise Lesniewicz, Vice-President of Lord & Lesniewicz. We searched various options and discovered a company called Freedom Foreclosure Prevention Services (FFPS) and US Loss Mitigation (USLM). After completing our due diligence, we discovered that FFPS and USLM have the answers for people in foreclosure that allow them to keep their homes and save their equity.

People facing foreclosure may investigate any one of several options before losing their home in a SheriffÂ’s Sale. These include: direct negotiation; sale, bankruptcy; refinancing or lines of credit. Depending on the home ownerÂ’s situation, some options are more favorable to the home owner than others. The home owner, though, needs to know all the options available and the consequences of each choice.

Certainly most home owners who wish to keep their home make the effort to talk with the lender and the collection department. It may appear that any offers from the lender to correct the delinquency are fortunate. Unfortunately, such arrangements may not take into account the complete borrower’s situation – income, expenses and the main reason for the delinquency. When the home owner cannot keep the arrangements, they are back where they started – only deeper in debt and with more legal or bank fees as well. Home owners are scared about losing their home and agree to plans and terms that really are not in their best interest.

Selling before foreclosure sounds good – but in today’s market, a quick sale may mean selling a property for significantly less than market value and only enough to pay off the existing mortgage. All equity is gone and not much left for starting over. Refinancing or additional lines of credit is certainly a choice but choosing the correct loan option along with the attendant closing costs does not necessarily make this the solution for home owners either. Certainly home owners consider bankruptcy too – and that is definitely a last resort since often times a bankruptcy only prolongs the inevitable foreclosure process.”

Mrs. Lesniewicz continued: “We’ve also heard the same horror stories as others regarding companies that take money before the services are rendered. USLM puts all monies in an escrow account so that the lender knows the home owner is able to meet their obligations today and provides a money back guarantee of services. This, we felt, was truly in the best interests of the home owner desperately wanting to save their home, their equity and their credit.”

USLM has been in the business of assisting home owners facing foreclosure by negotiating with the lender, providing access to mortgage assistance programs and mortgage counseling for the past 19 years. With thousands of satisfied clients nationwide, USLM has a proven track record with helping home owners successfully keep their home who qualify for their assistance programs.

As part of their Midwest education program, Lord & Lesniewicz has launched their site: http://www. SavingHomesUSA. com (http://www. SavingHomesUSA. com) to provide free mortgage consultations. For those without Internet access, they provide a toll-free number, 1-800-680-6476, to obtain free review of any home ownerÂ’s situation.

“We are very excited to be associated with an organization that allows the home owner to keep their home and get their finances back on track,” said Lesniewicz. “There is no greater satisfaction at the end of the day then hearing ‘Thank you for saving my home.’”

Lord & Lesniewicz, located in Westchester, IL, is an independent agent of Freedom Foreclosure Prevention Services and US Loss Mitigation. Mrs. Lesniewicz is available for speaking to groups and organizations that are interested in assisting their members regarding foreclosure. She has also written a series of short articles regarding the strategies and pitfalls to homeowners in foreclosure. To receive a listing of article topics or arrange for a presentation, please contact her at cherise@savinghomesusa. com To view additional information, visit the SavingHomesUSA site at www. CDI Electronics Schedules Third Outboard Ignition School

CDI Electronics announces it has scheduled a third Outboard Ignition School slated for Feb. 18-21, 2004 and also plans to add an advanced class in late 2004 for the dozens of students that have already participated in the 40-hour training sessions.

MADISON, ALA (PRWEB) December 20, 2003

CDI Electronics announces it has scheduled a third Outboard Ignition School slated for Feb. 18-21, 2004 and also plans to add an advanced class in late 2004 for the dozens of students that have already participated in the 40-hour training sessions.

As the sponsors of the marine industryÂ’s only formal training on outboard ignition systems, CDI Electronics decided to schedule the February class to meet the high demand for seats.

“The students from the first two classes were so impressed, they requested an advanced seminar,” said Ray Anders, President, CDI Electronics. “We have plans for two more basic classes next fall and we will now add an advanced class for those who have taken the basic training sessions or who can pass a written test exhibiting their knowledge of the outboard ignition systems.”

The first successful CDI Electronics Ignition School was held at the companyÂ’s Madison, Alabama manufacturing facility in late October. The second session was held in early December and was filled to capacity.

Marine technicians from 16 states and Australia and Canada completed the first two hands-on courses and obtained both Certificates for Technical Achievement and shirt patches verifying their outboard electronic ignition training.

CDI Electronics found a need for specialized training in todayÂ’s state-of-the-art ignition products and in keeping with its commitment to continuing education for technicians decided to develop this school, according to Anders.

Prestwick House Releases First Non-Fiction Guide Including New Technology-Based Genres

Prestwick House Releases First Non-Fiction Guide Including New Technology-Based Genres

This week, Delaware-based publishing company, Prestwick House, Inc. is proud to release its newest title, Reading and Analyzing Non-fiction: Slant, Spin, and Bias, written by former high school English teacher and English Department chair, Douglas Grudzina. This text contains a wide variety of works and accompanying exercises that will help students analyze and evaluate non-fiction — a largely neglected part of most states’ curriculum standards.

Smyrna, DE (PRWEB) January 16, 2010

This week, Delaware-based publishing company, Prestwick House, Inc. is proud to release its newest title, Reading and Analyzing Non-fiction: Slant, Spin, and Bias, written by former high school English teacher and English Department chair, Douglas Grudzina. This text contains a wide variety of works and accompanying exercises that will help students analyze and evaluate non-fiction — a largely neglected part of most states’ curriculum standards.

Currently, the English curriculum taught in high school classrooms consists mainly of fiction, but state standards and organizations such as the National Council of Teachers of English and the International Reading Association encourage the inclusion of non-fiction. According to Jenkins Group Inc., nearly 42% of students will never pick up another work of fiction after completing their education. Increasing steadily over the past decade, the majority of reading in the US by adults consists of scanning non-fiction works for information.

Grudzina asserts that, “The actual genres of non-fiction have changed drastically in recent years. Whereas only a decade ago, the typical reader got his or her news from a print newspaper or magazine, now print journalism is all but obsolete; consumers are choosing to read their news online. The surge in popularity of blogs has also created non-fiction genres that never existed before. It is now more important than ever to teach readers how to judge fact from opinion and how to recognize a writer’s biases, fallacies, or outright lies.”

“Even what does remain of print non-fiction—newspaper, magazines, book-length essays—have become so polarized that it is crucial for every reader—right or left, young or old, Northern or Southern—to be able to sift through the chaff and get to the kernel. This book, hopefully, addresses not only the need for students to read more non-fiction, but also the need to teach them not to accept everything they read at face value simply because it is ‘non-fiction.’”

Created with tenth - through twelfth-grade English classes in mind, Reading and Analyzing Non-fiction covers rhetorical devices, methods of organization, and other concepts that will guide students through the process of analyzing a variety of texts. Selections represent a broad range of authors, genres, and subjects, and span several eras (including selections as current as a blog post from New York Times Bestselling author, Matthew Pearl, dated August 2009).

“You really will not find a more up-to-date and varied collection of non-fiction that actually teaches the skills required to read for information” says Grudzina.

“Most, if not all, non-fiction texts currently available might mention issues like fact versus opinion, and might assume the student knows the difference between an analysis and an interpretation, but this book makes no such assumptions. It is, quite simply, an instructional book, not merely a ‘sink-or-swim’ anthology of great authors and titles.”

Reading and Analyzing Non-fiction: Slant, Spin, and Bias (ISBN# 9781603891189) is now available both online at PrestwickHouse. com or by calling (800)-932-4593.

Clear Admit Guides Provide Critical Competitive Edge amid Brewing "Perfect Storm" for MBA Applicants

MBA applications are on track to reach record levels this admissions season due to a collision of demographic and economic factors. As a result, b-school hopefuls are facing a more competitive landscape than ever, especially those seeking admission to the top schools.

PHILADELPHIA (PRWEB) August 21, 2008

To help applicants navigate this "perfect storm" and prepare the strongest applications possible, Clear Admit has just released the Clear Admit Resume Guide. "The resume is a key component of any business school application, yet many applicants fail to tailor this document to the admissions process. Our guide has been forged from Clear Admit's wealth of experiePce advising MBA applicants and our team members' direct experience in admissions roles at programs like Wharton, Tuck and Columbia," says Graham Richmond, Clear Admit's Co-founder and CEO.

The Resume Guide is just the latest addition to Clear Admit's growing arsenal of resources for the well-prepared MBA applicant. Also fresh off the presses are the 2008-09 Clear Admit School Guides. Updated each year, the acclaimed School Guides provide applicants with an in-depth understanding of each school's culture and offerings, crucial in identifying a good fit and producing polished essays.

Admissions directors at the schools themselves offer praise for the Guides: "Clear Admit does an excellent job in helping prospective applicants learn about individual schools through the School Guides, providing great information about specific programs in the context of how they compare to other schools on similar metrics," says Rosemaria Martinelli, Associate Dean of Student Recruitment and Admissions at the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business.
