Second Generation Web Site Makes NYU's Admissions Process Easier Than Ever

Second Generation Web Site Makes NYU's Admissions Process Easier Than Ever

New York University's undergraduate admissions office has launched a second-generation Web site that helps students to easily find admissions information online. The new site, designed and developed by Media Farm, demonstrates the sophistication and prestige of the existing NYU brand.

(PRWEB) November 2, 2003

New York, New York, October 30, 2003, - New York University's undergraduate admissions office has launched a second-generation Web site (http://admissions. nyu. edu (http://admissions. nyu. edu)) that helps students to easily find admissions information online. The new site, designed and developed by Media Farm, demonstrates the sophistication and prestige of the existing NYU brand. It features an easy-to-use interface and a downloadable, PDF version of the application process that allows students to maintain a checklist while they gather application materials.

"As the Internet matures, so does the level of knowledge and awareness among Web site users. Businesses are becoming wiser about their audiences and discovering how a site can not only extend a brand but actually support operations," said Alissa White, founding principal at Media Farm. The firm conducted user research to discover the needs of real students who would be using the site. High school students, parents and school counselors were interviewed and the findings contributed to the site's information and graphic design. White added, "It's important to live up to the expectations of your audience, and we found that NYU's prospective students are very savvy in their usage of the Web."

In their research, Media Farm also discovered that many calls to the admissions office were made by people who had tried to use the Web site but found it difficult to find information. "Having a streamlined, easy-to-use Web site has obvious benefits for our staff," said Peter Farrell, Director of Admissions Outreach & Technology. "We're always looking for ways to make information more accessible for our prospective students, and this new Web site will go a long way in that effort."

The task of maintaining the site is also now greatly simplified. With a custom, simple and secure, Web-based Content Management System NYU's Admissions staff keeps timely content up-to-date. Program information, deadlines and statistical information can be updated by anyone, regardless of their knowledge of HTML.

Preliminary web survey results indicate most users find the site “very easy” to navigate and find relevant information.

About Media Farm

Media Farm was founded in 1995 by partners Daniel Scheman and Alissa White. The firm designs and develops Web-enabled technology systems, including Web sites, content management tools, customer communication systems, marketing applications and interactive sales presentations for businesses that want to communicate effectively with their audience, increase sales or streamline business operations.

Local teen band Selected as semi-Finalist in SchoolJam USA Battle of the Bands Competition

Local teen band Selected as semi-Finalist in SchoolJam USA Battle of the Bands Competition

Teen Battle of the Bands Contest Aimed at Encouraging Music Making Among Teens and Helping School Music Programs

Rowlett, TX (PRWEB) November 17, 2009

NAMM, the trade association of the international music products industry, has selected Jaci and Those Guys, a teen band from the Rowlett, Royse City & Rockwall area to move on to the semi finals of the SchoolJam USA teen battle of the bands competition.

The nationwide contest, sponsored by NAMM, is designed to encourage teen bands across the United States to demonstrate their musical talents and enjoy the many proven benefits of making music.

Jaci and Those Guys will be included in the online voting portion of the competition, which begins November 1, 2009 and ends December 5, at www. schooljamusa. com. The general public is encouraged to visit the site and vote for their favorite band. The top two bands in five designated regions that receive the most votes will be announced on Dec. 19, 2009, and will be invited to the live SchoolJam USA battle of the bands finals held at the NAMM Show on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, in Anaheim, Calif.

The SchoolJam USA Battle of the Bands helps highlight the best and most talented teens across the country, while supporting the bands’ school music education programs. The winning band will receive $750 toward new musical equipment and could win a trip to perform at the SchoolJam Germany live finals in Frankfurt, Germany, at the MusikMesse trade fair. The top band’s school music program will also receive $5,000 toward new musical equipment purchased at their local NAMM Member retailer of choice. The competition is sponsored with the help of MENC, the national association for music education; the Music Education National Conference; Music For All; the John Lennon Educational Bus; SchoolJam and InTune Monthly magazine.

Jaci and Those Guys consists of lead vocalist, Jaci Butler, a 13- year-old Rowlett teen, lead guitarist, Matt Venhaus, bass player, Jason Savage, rhythm guitarist, Chad Ragsdale, and drummer, Trevor Quiett, all 16-17 years old and from Royse City and Fate.

Jaci and Those Guys are getting local and national attention as they perform throughout the Dallas Area. Recent accomplishments include winning two local battle of the band competitions, playing at the House of Blues, and taking 2nd place in the nation in the slurpee. com BOTB contest sponsored by the 7-Eleven Corporation. These talented young teens have been spending a lot of time working on writing original music because they are going into the studio in a few weeks to record an entire album. The only thing these young teens like to do as much as create new music and perform their music, is to use their music to help others and this what they do quite frequently. Just this fall alone, they have performed at benefits such as Local Euphoria to help raise money and awareness for cystic-fibrosis, the Rowlett Relay for Life to raise money for the National Cancer Society, and the Living for Zachary Benefit in Plano to raise awareness about sudden cardiac arrest in teens. Since they had such huge support from their fans in the slurpee contest, they are hoping their fans and the general public will support them again by going online to vote every day until December 5th, because this time it can help raise up to $5,000 or more for their school band program! To find out more about Jaci and Those Guys and to hear their music, go to www. myspace. com/jacibutler (http://www. myspace. com/jacibutler). Also, from this site, you can go to the SchoolJam USA box, and click on “VOTE FOR US” to go directly to schooljam. com to vote.

Join The Fast-Growing $30 Billion Direct Selling /Network Marketing Industry

Join The Fast-Growing $30 Billion Direct Selling /Network Marketing Industry

Award-winning Direct Selling Duo Share Their Expertise and Insights on Achieving Success in the $30 Billion Network Marketing Industry.

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 27, 2005

Neil and Dana Phillips were working in education when they started “doing a little direct selling on the side” nearly 30 years ago. Their business grew quickly, and soon their income tax bill was more than Neil had earned as a tenured university professor. This inspiring husband-and-wife team shares their expertise to help newcomers and experienced network marketers achieve the personal prosperity they seek in DIRECT SELLING 101 (Gildan Audio/Your Coach in a Box series; November 2005; 8 CDs/ approx. 8 hours; $29.98 US / $39.98 Canada).

More than ever before success-minded Americans are growing their fortunes as independent agents for such respected direct selling organizations as Princess House, Tupperware and Mary Kay, among many others. The Direct Selling Association describes this business as “the sale of a consumer product or service, person-to-person, away from a fixed retail location.” Direct selling is big business, with over 55% of Americans having purchased a product or service from a direct sales representative, and one in five Americans reporting that they are currently a direct selling representative.

In DIRECT SELLING 101, Neil and Dana Phillips introduce the listener to the concepts of direct selling and reveal why over 12 million Americans are now involved in this $30 billion industry. The authors discuss the process of starting and building a direct selling business, from recruiting new customers and sales team members, to planning parties and closing the sale. They review some of the common misconceptions about direct selling, and detail how to choose a direct selling company that fits the needs and interests of a wide variety of network marketers. Neil and Dana Phillips provide essential insights into a variety of elements important to any direct sales entrepreneur, including:

. Staying Focused

. Managing Your Time

. Motivating Others

. Setting Goals

. Kick-starting Your Creativity.

For those new to the field or expanding their current efforts, DIRECT SELLING 101 will demonstrate how this dynamic and entrepreneurial field can bring independence and financial security.

UnoLink Launches First “VideoMenu” Setup in Latin America

UnoLink Launches First “VideoMenu” Setup in Latin America

Movies all around - The concessions stand Menu Board in the Cines Unidos movie theatre at the Sambil Mall now features moving pictures.

Caracas, Venezuela (PRWEB) September 7, 2006

Scala Inc., the industry leader in end-to-end digital signage software, announced today UnoLink, a Scala Certified Partner, has pioneered the launch of the VideoMenu into the Latin American market. VideoMenu is a ground breaking new way to present menus at food retailers everywhere – instead of a traditional menu, VideoMenu displays distance-controlled video feeds displayed on plasma screens strategically placed over concessions stands.

This way, customers are able to get dynamic and attractive previews that positively influence purchases – and ultimately boost company revenues. Luis Ginestra, Concessions Manager for Cines Unidos, supervised the installation of the VideoMenu screens, which are now available in over 24 theatres nationwide. “We at Cines Unidos strive to redefine the movie-going experience, so our clientele is constantly amazed. We operate at a technological and service vanguard within the country,” said Ginestra.

UnoLink developed VideoMenu using special components from Scala InfoChannel® software as well as video components developed at UnoLink. This unique approach to menu presentation allows for constant and instant menu updates, price adjustments and sale offer broadcasts; operated remotely and effectively. Content is designed and updated by UnoLink, where we employ an extensive image bank supplemented of custom images for clients – including photographs, graphics, animation and video, all of which are broadcast at high definition quality – an approach which greatly increases the “appetite appeal” of the products offered on-screen.

“We substitute static images that merely portray the product with video and animation providing a preliminary sensory experience, resulting in tangible sales growth,” says Daniel Benaim, President of UnoLink. “ Additionally, VideoMenu influences customers at the moment of acquisition influencing last minute purchase decisions”

VideoMenus can be configured to fit one, two, three or more screens controlled by just one “InfoChannel Player” All information is relayed through a single database – making nationwide menu and price adjustments a breeze, and eliminating re-print and distribution costs, without costly time delays.

VideoMenu also offers the flexibility to modify the menus displayed, customizing projections for certain hours, or catering to local tastes – maximizing targeted sales. For example, Cines Unidos displays a special children’s menu selection at matinee times and a different selection after 5:00 p. m. This way, the menu always displays the products that are pertinent to each market target.

Stand Tall: Move Freely: Feel younger: Be Stronger with the New BodyBolster Back Pain Management Tool

Stand Tall: Move Freely: Feel younger: Be Stronger with the New BodyBolster Back Pain Management Tool

The BodyBolster™, a new generation in back pain management, helps prevent and manage back pain, neck strain and shoulder aches.

Australia (PRWEB) December 24, 2009

Bolster Trading announces a new tool in managing back pain, neck strain and shoulder aches. The BodyBolster (http://syndacast. com/go/BodyBolster)™ is a postural support that combines 'tool and skill' with a self treatment capability wider than any other self help tool available.

Developed by a team of Australian physical therapists for the purpose of allowing relaxation of the muscles and mobility of the joints. Conventional foam or plastic supports are 'passive'- holding the torso in a static position. This weakens the muscles (they turn off) and exacerbate the problem. The BodyBolster™ provides 'active' postural support - it strengthens as it supports.

The BodyBolster™ helps prevent and manage back pain, neck strain and shoulder aches (http://syndacast. com/go/WorkPlaceHealth). The springy, 'active' support of the BodyBolster™ reduces calcification to the spine through micro movements and helps to instantly relieve joint stiffness, switches on core stabilizer muscles (for improved strength) and promotes erect positive posture.

A new way of sitting
When the BodyBolster™ is placed between you and the chair, you will be able to rock slightly. These gentle, small movements are the beginning of a new way of sitting (http://syndacast. com/go/WorkPlaceHealth). - as the BodyBolster™ molds to your body providing support and comfort.

The BodyBolster's unique texture (firm yet malleable) is designed to give gentle feedback to the nervous system to invite a sense of letting go - allowing movement rather than forcing it. The idea of heightened sensory awareness is based on mind-body principles of learning such as in Pilates, Yoga and Feldenkrais.

"Research shows that 'active' sitting can improve the fitness and alertness of employees and reduce pain and fatigue… the BodyBolster is an excellent strategy to promote 'active' sitting."
Dr David Harris PhD Behavioral Medicine
Director of National Workplace Health Project – Sydney University, Director, Research & Development – AlphaOne

The BodyBolster™ is easy to use – it self-inflates with the turn of the valve and deflates with a squeeze. Providing an all-in-one convenient, versatile, portable, effective back support and exercise tool, the BodyBolster™ helps people with back pain to stretch, release muscle tension, stiffness, aches and pain - even in the sitting position. "www. youtube. com/user/bolsterpilates" (http://syndacast. com/go/BolsterYoutube) (seated exercise)

The BodyBolster™ comes with a user guide DVD demonstrating 47 exercises to increase range of movement, improve flexibility and build core strength. More information about the BodyBolster™ available at "www. bodybolster. com" (http://syndacast. com/go/BodyBolster).

RHI's New Leadership Defines 2010 as the Year of the Sociable City

RHI's New Leadership Defines 2010 as the Year of the Sociable City

The "Sociable City" will be the focus of the Responsible Hospitality Institute's program development for 2010 through the support of two new board members: Kathie Durbin, Chief of Licensure, Regulation and Education in the Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control Division, and Lynne Breaux, recipient of the 2010 Food Service Leader of the Year award and president, Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington.

Santa Cruz, CA (PRWEB) February 4, 2010

The January 2010 board meeting of the Responsible Hospitality Institute (RHI) welcomed a new board chair and several new board members to broaden the organization's scope. Traditional RHI board members represent a diverse palate of national expertise ranging from beverage companies and law enforcement to regulators and downtown development. This year marks the expansion of representation to local hospitality and regulatory leaders, paving the way for tools that better reflect local needs. This landmark development coincides with RHI's launch of twenty Sociable City Forums (http://rhievents. org/forum/), which will unite local stakeholders to share strategies for nightlife management across North America.

Spearheading RHI's 2010 program development is newly elected board chair Kathie Durbin, Chief of Licensure, Regulation and Education in the Montgomery County, MD Department of Liquor Control Division, and member of the Regulatory Committee of the National Alcohol Beverage Control Association. At the forefront of a "concierge government" approach, Ms. Durbin confirms the importance of opening a national dialogue in problem solving. "As regulators, we cannot rely solely on our power of enforcement. We need to educate and maintain open communication with all sectors. I hope to bring the perspective of challenges in our county, and how we overcame them, to a national network administered by RHI."

A prominent figure from Washington DC's hospitality industry has also gained a seat on the board: Lynne Breaux, president, Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington and member of the Council of Restaurant Association Executives. Recipient of the 2010 Food Service Leader of the Year (http://www. ramw. org/Hospitality-News/Hot-Topics/Lynne-Breaux-Named-Food-Service-Leader-of-the-Year. html) award, Ms. Breaux represents one of the nation's most dynamic hospitality economies. Her unique expertise on local business challenges and successes will be applied to the national sphere through participation in RHI's board.

National associations' interests continue to be represented on the RHI Board. David Christman, Director of State and Industry Affairs, National Beer Wholesalers Association, was elected to serve a second year as secretary/treasurer. Meanwhile, two new individuals have been selected to represent their organization for 2010: Kit Cramer, president, International Downtown Association and Lauren Adkins, Assistant Director for Field Services, National Trust Main Street.

The RHI Board of Directors meets on a quarterly basis while also actively working with RHI staff to plan and conduct forums, webinars and conferences on a variety of issues related to the nighttime economy, as well as expand membership in RHI's Sociable City Network (http://www. sociablecity. org).

Public Forum to Draw Citizen Input for Potential Relocation of The Battle Creek Area Math and Science Center

Public Forum to Draw Citizen Input for Potential Relocation of The Battle Creek Area Math and Science Center

Calhoun County citizens are invited to a public forum on the potential relocation for the Battle Creek Area Mathematics and Science Center (BCAMSC), now located at 765 Upton Avenue.

Battle Creek, Mich. (Vocus) October 13, 2009

Calhoun County citizens are invited to a public forum on the potential relocation for the Battle Creek Area Mathematics and Science Center (BCAMSC), now located at 765 Upton Avenue. The event, designed to gain public input regarding a potential relocation of the school and its distribution center, is scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 7:00 p. m. in The Valentine Room of the Burnham Brook Center at 200 Michigan Ave W. in downtown Battle Creek.

Citizen input will help planners take the next steps of securing a location and obtaining financial resources to give students an improved facility and better education opportunities. The forum is the public's first look at conceptual presentations of the Center, if it were to be fitted into an existing building in downtown Battle Creek.

Presenters include representatives from Battle Creek Public Schools, Battle Creek Unlimited, construction experts and architectural firms that were contracted to investigate the possibilities of four downtown sites. The public will hear about evaluations on an improved curriculum, expanded technology, increased lab space, and broader opportunities to collaborate with downtown industry, such as the food science organizations and Calhoun County's largest employers.

In September, the Battle Creek Public School Board approved Battle Creek Unlimited to investigate funding in the form of public grants and private investment. There are no plans to utilize tax generated funds for the Center's relocation and renovation.

To date, presenters recommend the former cereal museum building in downtown Battle Creek as the Center's future location. The public will hear how evaluators selected this location over three other possible sites.

A proposed relocation to downtown Battle Creek could help expand the math and science curriculum, increase the educational kit sales and enhance student opportunities to work with and learn from the area's scientific employers.

The distribution arm of the BCAMSC is a unique entrepreneurial initiative providing science kits that meet state educational benchmarks for Kindergarten through 7th grade. Sales of these kits to outside school districts subsidize the Center's programs. Work-based experience for special needs students at the BCAMSC is a win-win relationship that allows students to gain skills that may transfer into future employment opportunities.

About the Battle Creek Area Math and Science Center
The BCAMSC is one of 33 regional centers in the Michigan Mathematics and Science Centers Network. The BCAMSC provides leadership, curriculum support, professional development and student services to educators in Battle Creek area school districts. The curriculum fosters instruction on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) for all students K-12. The center also houses a distribution center for the creation and sale of educational materials for nationwide schools. Sales of the lesson kits help subsidize the center's operations.

Paint-by-Numbers Updated for the Digital Generation

Paint-by-Numbers Updated for the Digital Generation

Paint-by-numbers meets modern technology in SegPlayPC TM, a computerized paint-by-numbers program for Windows 2000 and XP. With twenty images and powerful features for artsy types and casual gamers, SegPlayPC is simple to use with infinite variety.

Walnut Creek, CA (PRWEB) September 12, 2006

Software developer SegTech recently introduced SegPlayPC(TM), a digital version of the popular 1950s pastime, paint-by-numbers. The result is a new computing hobby that folks fifty years ago couldn't have imagined.

Users can color images with the mouse instead of a brush with SegPlayPC(TM), the desktop program for Windows 2000 and XP. The program includes twenty images, from complex masterworks of art to familiar landmarks and soothing nature imagery. According to SegTech, the company will expand this content with future diverse collections.

Using SegPlayPC(TM), "painters" follow a number key to fill sections of the picture and the photorealistic image gradually emerges in color segments. Completing the image, the user can replay the process to marvel and learn as the work of art composes itself, color by color. A relaxing diversion popular with artsy types, the program especially resonates with middle-aged women, who appreciate the application of today's computing power to the nostalgic, paint-by-numbers craze of their youth.

SegPlayPC(TM) offers a variety of artistic, educational, and gaming features to help users explore intriguing dimensions of both classic and modern art. Suitable for art education lesson plans for grades K-12, the software provides entertaining, instructive experience in color science and art appreciation.

In the "casual gaming" software category, SegPlayPC(TM) is simple to use. With a few, intuitive tools, new players can begin painting immediately, completing the simplest patterns in only four minutes. The program also offers engaging options to expand with each user, whether they seek art awareness or just an interesting gaming challenge. For example, the program offers the creative opportunity to play with intricate painting patterns and "edit" works of art. Advanced users can undertake ambitious projects and work with extremely complex and intricate patterns. With appeal to all audiences and age groups, SegPlayPC(TM) is continuously replayable and addictive, and as repetitive—or infinitely varied—as each user prefers.

SegPlayPC(TM) uses the same cutting-edge processing power of Microsoft’s DirectX(TM) graphics technology used to play today's video games. Optimizing modern image-processing programming, SegTech programmers developed "Segmation(TM)" technology, which enables designers to dissect pictures into outlined patterns with customized, computer-generated color palettes. Using this technology, programmers can isolate dozens of colors and divide images—from simple line drawings to intricate masterpieces or photography—into thousands of distinct segments.

Several thousand daily visitors and habitual users enjoy an online version of the program, available at Segmation. com for more than five years. The family-friendly site offers the largest and most diverse collection of photo-realistic paint-by-numbers patterns on the Internet. SegTech founder Mark H. Feldman developed Segmation(TM) technology and started the website in 2001.

Users can test a free downloadable program (with limited patterns, textures, and features) on a ten-day trial. The complete SegPlayPC(TM) program is also downloadable and costs $24.95(US). For information, visit SegTech online at www. segmation. com

Image Caption Suggestion:

The new SegPlayPC(TM), from SegTech, gives a new, photorealistic twist to paint-by-numbers, digitizing the 1950s pastime. With an easy user interface, the desktop program provides customized color palettes, transparency and texturing tools, and gaming options so users can fill detailed patterns and enjoy a meditating, soothing, and creative computing experience.

SegPlayPC™ Product Features

Tools

Painters can work in a standard, sizeable window or at full-screen resolution to maximize the canvas. Users can also magnify the painting to focus on and enlarge any section with infinite zoom-in and out tools. The program also includes panning, translation, and auto-advance gadgets to "move" the canvas around, complete color application, and speed the fill-in process.

Modes

The program operates in a range of modes:

Normal (segments of the painting are number-keyed to a palette of colors) Hint Mode (shows only the current color to simplify the painting process) Free Mode (any color in the available palette can fill any segment of the painting)

In addition, "Auto-Completion" offers a hypnotizing experience as users can watch the program automatically apply each color to the pattern. The hues spread throughout the pieces and the image takes form, one drop at a time.

Pattern Options

Some patterns can be defined with more than 1000 colored segments and can employ palettes of more than 32 colors. Users can customize the appearance of lines and numbers on the canvas, adjusting the color and transparency of the lines, changing the format, font, color, and transparency of the numbers, even opting to paint with invisible outlines.

Art Education

A transparency control allows the original image to “bleed” gradually into the pattern to give additional color clues, and the opportunity to explore color-averaging and matching techniques. A texturing feature includes twenty texture choices, allowing users to paint on textured paper and apply textured paint to achieve a stylized effect in their completed images. Users can also scale and align textures to improvise unlimited effects. Program content includes links to artist websites for information about the artworks, artists, and subjects.

Gaming Features

With a dynamic user interface and fun sound effects, the program's gaming features engage users at all levels. Users can race against a timer to complete patterns in a given timeframe at levels from Easy to Experienced and Expert. Users can also employ speed-painting tools, monitor the mistake counter, and track the number of remaining pieces and colors to increase the program's challenging and addictive potential.

Printing and Saving

The program includes a versatile printing option, allowing users to print blank patterns, partial paintings, completed artwork, and, for offline coloring, corresponding palettes. The program also provides an automatic saving function so that, as a user progresses on a pattern, the program individually and automatically saves the work so the user can return to it later.

University of Massachusetts Amherst Class of 2008: Life after Graduation

University of Massachusetts Amherst Class of 2008: Life after Graduation

A recent survey of 2008 graduates of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, conducted by the University of Massachusetts Amherst Alumni Association, provided insight into life after graduation for these members of the “Millennial Generation”.

Amherst, MA (Vocus) September 23, 2008

A recent survey of 2008 graduates of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, conducted by the University of Massachusetts Amherst Alumni Association, provided insight into life after graduation for these members of the “Millennial Generation”.

In a time of seemingly endless economic turmoil, there is encouraging news: seventy-five percent (75%) of respondents indicate they’ve found employment and that it is related to what they studied at the university. Almost ten percent (10%) said they had found employment – but the position they obtained is not related to what they studied. However, this may be by design – some students change direction as they work towards their degree, and others have longer-term goals. For example, Sage Feddura, class of 2010, who is majoring in Business, is doing so with the goal of actually working in film... managing the day to day financial needs of the production crew for the movie studio. “I ultimately want to produce films, but I believe having business knowledge is the best way to work my way into the business,” he said.

Almost seven percent (7%) of the respondents said they chose to travel or go to graduate school upon completing their undergraduate degree.

While just over half of the respondents said that they had found employment close to their home, over forty percent (40%) said they moved to another city after accepting a job offer. Almost seven percent (7%) moved to another city to look for a job – either out of choice or necessity.

Over ninety percent (90%) said that they were well prepared to make a living in their field of study or another field they chose, indicating that their education and experience at the University of Massachusetts Amherst served them well. "I am so glad to be working in the field I studied while at UMass Amherst! My sport management education prepared me well for my current and future employment in athletics," said Becky Letourneau, class of '08.

“Consistently, recruiters have found UMass Amherst to be a great place to find highly qualified young professionals”, said Rod Warnick, PhD, professor in the school of Hospitality and Travel Management (HTM). “Recruiters tell us that what they notice most about our students are that they are ‘original and highly professional with excellent job, business and hospitality skills; great team members with very strong leadership potential; and most importantly -- they possess a strong work ethic.’"

“Each year over 60 companies return to interview and consider our students for full-time permanent placement after graduation and to also recruit students for seasonal employment and internships”, he continued. “Seventy percent (70%) of our May 2008 graduates had more than two interviews by the HTM Career Day in March, and of those, fifty-five percent (55%) had 3 or more interviews. Of all our graduating students interviewed by Career Day, fifty-six percent (56%) already had two (2) or more job offers.

Regardless of the economic climate of the country and the national employment statistics, University of Massachusetts Amherst graduates seem to be faring well on the employment market – and that is good news for the university, alumni, parents and current students!

The University of Massachusetts Amherst Alumni Association represents over 215,000 around the globe, and provides programs and services to enlighten, strengthen and develop students, faculty, staff and alumni. For more information, go to UMassAlumni. com.

New Site Challenges Online Travel Giants Expedia, Orbitz and Travelocity; Consumers to Benefit from Unbiased Low-Fare Displays and Money-Saving Alternatives

New Site Challenges Online Travel Giants Expedia, Orbitz and Travelocity; Consumers to Benefit from Unbiased Low-Fare Displays and Money-Saving Alternatives

AirfareScout. com, an unbiased online consumer travel information source, is a tremendous tool for travel shoppers who want truth, education, less confusion and real discounts. Consumers who use AirfareScout. comÂ’s Lowest Published Fare information as the starting point when shopping for airfares are likely to save both time and money.

(PRWEB) November 1, 2001

SAN DIEGO, California – October 30, 2001 – Travel and technology veteran Steve Kosier, who in 1996 co-founded the successful Bestfares. com website, has announced the launch of an unbiased consumer travel information source, AirfareScout. com. Unlike most travel websites, AirfareScout. com’s business model bypasses the conflict-of-interest flaws inherent in the commission-dependent agency model. According to Kosier, AirfareScout. com will enable consumers to confidently shop for the lowest airfare in a way that embodies truth, education, less confusion and real discounts.

"The launch of AirfareScout. com is a giant step forward for consumers," said Kosier. "It will let them know which travel agencies and websites filter out low-fare information and which do not." Kosier cited a July 2001 study documenting the widespread omission of the Lowest Published Fare from low-fare quotes, then explained how AirfareScout. comÂ’s model could help consumers.

"Most of the information on our site is free to the public, including all possible Lowest Published Fare options for each flight you search. We retrieve all data in real-time directly from a federally regulated system, so we know itÂ’s accurate. We then display all published fare options with each airlineÂ’s toll-free phone number, website link, and applicable rules and fare basis code. We donÂ’t filter any information and we donÂ’t exclude any low-cost airlines."

In other words, consumers who use AirfareScout. comÂ’s Lowest Published Fare information as the starting point when shopping for airfares are likely to save both time and money. "Hence our 'Dare to Compare!' website slogan," said Kosier.

Speaker discusses womenÂ’s military service at luncheon

Speaker tells of womenÂ’s military service at monthly luncheon

Lancaster, Ohio

Recently, in Gettysburg, Pa., the shallow graves of four Civil War soldiers were uncovered. In the graves were the remains of three men Â… and one woman.

Many women in military history have followed the paths of their male counterparts in service to our nation.

“Women in the military” was the topic of choice for Darlene Hemmingsen, guest speaker for the American Society of Military Comptrollers’ Buckeye Chapter’s monthly meeting at the Concourse Hotel Nov. 20.

Hemmingsen, who served in the Army for three years as the Vietnam War drew to a close, is a Pataskala, Ohio, resident and serves as president of the WomenÂ’s Army Corps Veterans Association, Chapter 3.

She also recently became a member of the American Legion, Post 85, in Newark, Ohio.

When she joined the military, Hemmingsen became the ArmyÂ’s first full-time female electrician. Later, after leaving the Army, she went on to spend 25 years as an electrician and local businesswoman.

During her remarks, Hemmingsen shared the stories of a number of courageous women who served in the military as nurses, snipers, scouts, clerks and interrogators, among a host of other professions.

Women recognized for their bravery on the battlefield include Mary Catherine O'Rourke, telephone operator and interpreter for Gen. John J. Pershing; and Mary Ludwig Hays McCauley, known by the nickname "Molly Pitcher,” who carried water to the men on the Revolutionary battlefield at Monmouth, N. J.

Hemmingsen comes from a family with a long line of military service Â… grandfathers and uncles, etc.Â… however, she is a proud supporter of women in the military and veterans of the armed forces.

Before concluding her remarks, she took a step back from her podium to recognize and salute about a half-dozen military veterans who attended the ASMC luncheon.

ASMC is the non-profit educational and professional organization for persons, military and civilian, involved in the overall field of military comptrollership.

ASMC promotes the education and training of its members, and supports the development and advancement of the profession of military comptrollership.

The society sponsors research, provides professional programs to keep members abreast of current issues and encourages the exchange of techniques and approaches.

He will be honored with the award at a Tribute Dinner on Thursday, October 16 in Washington, D. C.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) June 6, 2008

The Textile Museum announced today that Dr. Jon Thompson, one of the foremost scholars in the field of Oriental carpets, has been chosen as the 2008 recipient of the Museum's George Hewitt Myers Award, the highest honor given in the field of textile arts. The Myers Award, named for The Textile Museum's founder and given by the Museum's Board of Trustees, recognizes Thompson's lifetime achievement and exceptional contributions to the study and understanding of the textile arts. He will be honored with the award at a Tribute Dinner on Thursday, October 16 in Washington, D. C.

"Jon Thompson's scholarship has significantly influenced the field of Oriental carpets," said Bruce P. Baganz, president of the Museum's Board of Trustees. "Through publications, exhibitions and lectures, Thompson has progressed the appreciation of carpets and textiles as works of art and expressions of culture, values closely aligned with The Textile Museum's mission and the legacy of our founder, George Hewitt Myers."

About Jon Thompson
Thompson became interested in carpets and textiles while practicing medicine in London. His interest in the study of rugs and resulting publications earned the attention of Louise Mackie, then curator at The Textile Museum. Mackie invited Thompson to work with her on an exhibition of Turkmen rugs, which opened at The Textile Museum in 1980. The exhibition was highly influential in the recognition and appreciation of Turkmen rugs and textiles, and generated collecting interests in this area that still exist today. The exhibition was accompanied by a landmark volume, Turkmen Tribal Carpets and Tradition, co-authored by Jon Thompson and Louise Mackie and published by The Textile Museum.

What began as a private interest became a second career and, from 2001 to 2007, Thompson held the position of May Beattie Fellow in Carpet Studies at the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology and the Khalili Research Centre, at the University of Oxford. In this capacity, he directed the Beattie Carpet Archive, working towards the establishment of a database of images and notes on carpets made by May Hamilton Beattie (1908-1996) in order to make her research available to scholars. His work also involved teaching courses on carpets and textiles of the Islamic world at Oxford University and at the British Museum. Though now retired from Oxford, Thompson continues to teach in London at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and at the Victoria & Albert Museum.

Thompson's recent projects include a study of regional variations in the content of sulphur isotopes in wool, for the purpose of seeing whether it is possible to establish the geographical source of the wool in a carpet. This in turn would help in identifying the carpet's provenance. Another interest of his has been the study of carpet weaving in the 15th century. Thompson's ideas on the subject were published in his 2006 volume "Milestones in the History of Carpets" (Moshe Tabibnia, Milan), which was also published in Italian.

This year Thompson is guest curator of an exhibition celebrating the 75th anniversary of the New York-based Hajji Baba Club, the nation's oldest and most prestigious rug and textile collecting group. The exhibition is on view at the New York Historical Society through August 17, 2008 and will open as "Timbuktu to Tibet: Rugs and Textiles of the Hajji Babas" at The Textile Museum on October 18, 2008. The exhibition is accompanied by a beautifully illustrated catalogue, "Timbuktu to Tibet; Exotic Rugs and Textiles from New York Collectors," also written by Thompson.

Full Sail Real World Education has once again been invited to participate with the Sundance Filmmakers Laboratories, being held in Park City, Utah this summer. For the past three years, teaching staff and alumni from Full SailÂ’s Film Program have been selected to provide their skills at the annual Sundance Filmmakers Lab. This yearÂ’s event is scheduled to take place from May 25 to June 24.

Participants from Full Sail include Film instructors Clark Harris, Jonathan Kosik, and Jefe Seebach, as well as Film alumni Ryan Funk, Byron Wilson, and Akilah Owens. During the Filmmakers Lab the group will be working closely with eight up and coming directors as part of a month-long mentoring process. These labs offer the directors seasoned production crews, as well as the opportunity to collaborate with professional actors such as Sally Field, Ed Harris, and Robert Redford.

“Sundance is one of the premiere film organizations in the world,” says Dave Franko, Full Sail’s Program Director for Film. “It’s an honor for our staff and alumni to be handpicked by the Sundance community to participate in this event, and it’s also a great opportunity for them to work in an environment that is strongly supportive of independent filmmaking.”

The Full Sail group will work a variety of positions during the Filmmakers Lab, as they help first-time directors on productions of their own original screenplays. "Reduced Income" Cited 14% More Often by those Seeking Credit Counseling

"Reduced Income" Cited 14% More Often by those Seeking Credit Counseling

Leading nonprofit says "root cause" of debt problems is changing

Orlando, Florida (PRWEB) July 1, 2009

In what can only be called a sign of the times for many Americans, InCharge® Debt Solutions (IDS) says a majority of consumers are now citing "reduced income" as the main cause of their debt problems. More than 53 percent of those who contacted IDS in May 2009 hoping to find debt solutions said their problems stemmed from "reduced income," an increase of more than 14 percentage points from the same month one year ago.

"We tend to find that the 'root causes' for debt problems (http://www. incharge. org/Credit_Counseling/Resources/DebtRelief/Default. aspx) are fairly consistent from month-to-month and year-to-year," said Etta Money, president of InCharge Debt Solutions. "The fourteen percentage point jump in those citing 'reduced income' is significant because it says that consumers are still struggling to find income and keep up with their expenses, while many, too many, are losing the battle."

InCharge Debt Solutions, one of the nation's leading nonprofit credit counseling organizations, provides free counseling to consumers struggling with excessive debt by analyzing their financial situations and offering budgeting assistance, educational resources and solutions that best suits their needs. In cases where a Debt Management Program is appropriate, InCharge Debt Solutions works with creditors to help consolidate creditor account payments into one monthly payment, reduce interest rates, eliminate late and over-limit fees, and bring a halt to collection calls.
