Indians, Historians, Celebrities Recount Shameful Era In New Documentary: 'Trail of Tears: Cherokee Legacy'

Indians, Historians, Celebrities Recount Shameful Era In New Documentary: 'Trail of Tears: Cherokee Legacy'

Rich-Heape Films, Inc. of Dallas has released a two-hour, high-definition documentary -- "The Trail of Tears: Cherokee Legacy" -- on the forced removal in 1838 of the Cherokee Nation from the southeastern United States to Oklahoma. Indian actor Wes Stui presents the film and James Earl Jones narrates with the voices of singers Crystal Gayle, Rita and Priscilla Coolidge, actor John Buttram, former Virginia Gov. Douglas Wilder contributing to the telling of the dark chapter in American history. Adolph Hitler studied President Andrew Jackson's Indian Removal Act of 1830 and that "American Holocaust" before attempting to eradicate Europe's Jews. Story research, development and production took almost a full decade to get the highly endorsed, critically accurate educational film to the screen.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) March 13, 2006

Rich-Heape Films, Inc., a Dallas-based Native American-owned corporation, released this month “The Trail of Tears: Cherokee Legacy.” The two-hour, high-definition feature documents the forced removal in 1838 of the Cherokee Nation from the southeastern United States to Oklahoma.

Wes Studi, the best known Cherokee actor, presents the documentary film, speaking on camera in his native tongue (with subtitles). Noted actor James Earl Jones, who is of blended African and Cherokee heritage, narrates in his customary and convincing tones. They are supported by the celebrity voices of actor James Garner, singer Crystal Gayle, actor John Buttram and former Virginia Gov. Douglas Wilder reading diary excerpts, and a host of historical experts from major universities.

“Uniquely, a Cherokee is recounting this shameful chapter in American history,” said Steven R. Heape, Executive Producer and a Citizen of the Cherokee Nation. “This is no ‘Hollywoodization’ of an American holocaust. The Trail of Tears actually drove the Five Civilized Tribes -- Cherokee, Choctaw, Seminole, Chickasaw and Muscogee Creek -- from their native lands.”

Heape and his partner, Chip Richie, who co-produced and directed the film, spent seven years researching and developing the story. It took another three years to raise funding to produce the stunning visual chronicle of an event often referred to as “America’s darkest hour.”

“The Jacksonian policy led to a brutal, cross country trek in which nearly a quarter of the tribal citizens, died from hunger, exposure, disease and sheer exhaustion,” Richie noted. “And these were primarily peaceful farming families who lived in houses, owned businesses, had their own newspapers and abided by their own constitution.”

Scenes and segments were filmed in and around Andersonville, Lumpkin and Westville, GA; Hopkinsville, KY; Littleton, ME; Cherokee, NC; Bismarck, ND; Tahlequah, OK, and in Nashville, TN.

Commenting in the film on the “Cherokee Tragedy” are authors and historians Robert J. Conley; Dr. Brett Riggs and Dr. Theda Purdue, both of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Dr. Daniel Littlefield, University of Arkansas; John B. Finger, head of Native American Studies at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville; Dr. Duane King, Executive Director of the Southwest Museum of the American Indian, and Wilma Mankiller, the first female chief of the Cherokee Nation.

“My reason for wanting to accurately tell this story goes back to the day in 1985 when I received my tribal citizenship. My Uncle Gene Heape of Dallas sat me down and told me the story of the Trail of Tears. In proper Cherokee culture, this was his responsibility and is ‘the way’ in which younger Cherokees learn the true story of our people.”

The documentary is endorsed by the Cherokee Nation, headquartered in Tahlequah, and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, based in Cherokee, NC. “The Trail of Tears: Cherokee Legacy” DVD can be ordered online at http://www. richheape. com (http://www. richheape. com) or by calling toll free 888-600-2922. Natives, Actors, Re-enactors

Wes Studi, best remembered for his role in the movie “Last of the Mohicans,” is a “compelling and knowledgeable native actor,” emphasized Heape, himself a descendant of Nancy Ward, the Cherokee Chieftainess who survived the Bell’s Route journey. “Another eloquent voice in the film is Gayle Ross, great-great-great granddaughter of John Ross, the principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation at the time of the forced march.”

James Earl Jones helped explore the fusion and unique ancestry of American Indian and Black heritage when he narrated “Black Indians: An American Story,” a 60-minute documentary produced by Rich-Heape Films in 2000. It was the first Native American-produced documentary to air on national network television, ABC-TV, during Black History Month in February 2002.

Special acknowledgment should go to Principal Chiefs Chad Smith of the Cherokee Nation and Michelle Hicks of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians for their vision and dedication to educating on tribal history.

“And our appreciation is manifold for hundreds of Indians, actors, military re-enactors, volunteers,, film crew members and the civil servants and citizens of dozens of towns that contributed to this movie,” said the 55-year-old Long Beach, CA native. “They, too, deserve recognition for their patience and passion for this historic project.”

James Neel of James Neel Music House in Dallas composed the original score with music contribution by the musical group “Walela” (Hummingbird in Cherokee) -- Rita and Priscilla Coolidge and Laura Satterfield.

Hitler Studied Indian Removal Act

“It is a distressing fact that Adolph Hitler studied President Andrew Jackson’s Indian Removal Act of 1830 when planning the isolation and decimation of European Jews,” Heape recalled. “Perhaps, that is one reason there is an abiding worldwide interest today in the ongoing relationship between the U. S. Government and its Native populace.”

Richie and Heape, who are inviting inquiries from both domestic and international film distributors and dealers, are convinced “Trail of Tears…” will find its way to PBS, the American History Channel or other cable and independent movie channels. “We know it will be well-received on the film festival circuit, but it deserves a much broader audience,” they said.

“Our Circle of Life series, dealing with genealogy, health issues, music culture and history,” Richie adds, “are in sharp contrast to our corporate sales and marketing projects. Sometimes it’s for the reel; sometimes it’s for the meal. But filmmakers live for a challenge like ‘Trail’.”

”Just as the Jewish holocaust victims don’t want their story forgotten, neither do American Indians. As sad as the story is, it is part of our country’s heritage and history,” the filmmaker stated. “Just last week, the Cherokee Supreme Court formally ruled that Cherokee Freemen can now be recognized as Citizens, a right that was in limbo for 165 years. Even today the painful chapter continues.”

“My ancestors suffered beyond imagination, finally arriving in Indian Territory almost devoid of children and elders,” Heape lamented. “In a way, they arrived with no past and no future. “Today, however, many of the more than 400,000 enrolled Cherokees survive and thrive in American society, enriching the nation in many ways while remaining in touch with their indigenous heritage.”

Rich-Heape Films, Inc.

The firm has been recognized as 1999 and 2003 American Indian Business of the Year by the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Texas. The U. S. congress has commended Heape for his extraordinary efforts to document and preserve Native American culture (108th Congressional Record – Congress, Second Session) http://richheape. com/steven-heape-congressional-record. htm (http://richheape. com/steven-heape-congressional-record. htm) In 2003 Heape was one of five Native American filmmakers invited to participate in the strategic film and video content planning for the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC.

The Screen Lights Up New York

The Screen Lights Up New York...

Launch of THE SCREEN USA draws the cream of the American digital signage industry to New York...

New York, NY (PRWEB) July 2, 2010

The Screen Forum USA’s kickoff Breakfast Briefing served up the top tier of digital out-of-home advertising specialists for its transport focused half-day session titled “Planes, Trains & Automobiles”.

Jointly hosted with the Digital Screenmedia Association, the event was held in the fine surroundings of The Crosby Hotel in the fashionable downtown SoHo district of Manhattan. Booking a 100 seater screening room for a launch event might have seemed a little bullish - but The Screen’s reputation (built up in Europe over the last few years) proceeds it, for the venue was absolutely brimming with the great and the good.

Hovering over the pastries and coffee cups were decision makers from the mass transit authorities and big outdoor companies, key consultants and creatives, and an interesting selection of vendors from both Europe and the USA.

The main draws on the day were Rich Ament, Senior Vice President at CBS Outernet and Eric Bottema, director of Kinetic’s Aviator North America. They were ably supported by Denise Macdonell of Harris Corporation and Lou Giacolone, ex-of-Titan and founder of software provider Coolsign.

Rich Ament talked about CBS’ high profile digital outdoor sites all across New York and how transport is the platform on which they intend to build their whole digital strategy. Not surprising given Eric Bottema’s comment that the equivalent population of the whole USA is on the move through the country’s airports every year. A fact not missed by the world’s brands and advertisers, who are already spending over $500M on media aimed at air passengers.

Harris were keen to show that they were the organization to talk to - referring to case studies of cutting edge technology on moving vehicles in Raleigh. It all added up to a lot of potential for media development - but it still left CoolSign’s Lou Giacolone wondering where the money to build the infrastructure was going to come from. For him, the industry was still struggling to persuade media owners that the industry could install and manage these network cost effectively.

The sessions were peppered with fascinating Q&A - and top-and-tailed with good opportunity for more detailed conversations and networking.

Hat’s off to Digital View and Magenta for persuading The Screen to bring its magic to the USA. According to compere Bob Michaels (CEO of Magenta Research and Executive Committee Member of The Screen USA), this is to be the first of many such educational and networking events, ‘Watch This Space!’

The Screen will be posting videos of the presentations to its website. To find out more about The Screen visit www. thescreen. org.

Black Chamber President and Board Member of Access Florida Finance Corporation Makes a Difference in Entrepreneurship Education

Dr. Carlton Robinson, Black Chamber President and Access Florida Finance Corporation Board member, made a presentation in Dallas, TX on April 25, 2009. "Creating a Basis For Understanding Entrepreneurial Variation Using Social and Cultural Attributions: A Phenomenological Perspective"

Jacksonville, FL (PRWEB) April 30, 2009

Dr. Carlton Lamar Robinson's paper entitled "Creating a Basis For Understanding Entrepreneurial Variation Using Social and Cultural Attributions: A Phenomenological Perspective", (presented in Dallas, TX on April 25, 2009) has received a Research Award from the International Academy of Business and Public Administration Disciplines.

The history of black chambers dates back to the days of Booker T. Washington and the National Negro Business League. Dr. Robinson is well aware of the history of contribution that these entities made. Upon becoming a part of the leadership team at the First Coast African American Chamber of Commerce in Jacksonville, FL (2007) and the Florida Black Chamber, he had a mission to make a scholarly contribution on behlaf of the African American business community. He credits his relationship with a wide range of organizations, local and state, who support black entrepreneurs.

Most importantly, he is especially grateful to the small businesses/entrepreneurs who trusted him enough to both share their experience and knowledge regarding economic development. Dr. Robinson has stated many times that ethnic chambers are gold mines for data and information that can lead to positive change in the overall community.

In the future, Dr. Robinson hopes to share his entrepreneurial covariation model and assist multiple communities in better developing entrepreneurs by upgrading their curriculums. According to Dr. Robinson, organizations will come to both value and realize some of the social and cultural variations between business owners/entrepreneurs. He intends to use http://www. thevirtualchamberofcommerce. com (http://www. thevirtualchamberofcommerce. com) as the primary support vehicle.

Folk Legends Open Kirkland Performance Center’s Ninth Season

Kirkland Performance Center is pleased to embark on our 9th season with the return of folk legends The Brothers Four, in two rare local appearances September 22 and 23.

Kirkland, WA (PRWEB) September 8, 2006

Kirkland Performance Center is pleased to embark on our 9th season with the return of folk legends The Brothers Four, in two rare local appearances September 22 and 23.

Exactly how long should 4-part harmony be aged to reach perfection? Listen to The Brothers Four and you’ll believe the answer is the 43 years they’ve been performing. Come indulge yourself in comfort food for the ears: “Greenfields,” “Yellow Bird” and “Try to Remember” crooned by “Americas Musical Ambassadors to the World,” and then join us after Friday’s show to toast the beginning of another great season at KPC.

The Brothers Four were global pioneers in the musical movement which came to be known as the "folk revival". Of the few groups from those times still performing today, they remain one of the best known and most popular.

Their all-acoustic presentation consists of guitars, banjo, upright bass, and of course the trademark rich blend of their four voices. Folk songs from America, Ireland, Scotland, Africa, Japan and China round out a repertoire of acoustic tunes old and new.

The Brothers Four have noticed a resurgence of interest in popular folk music in the United States and other countries around the world during the past few years, noting a "steady growth in concert attendance" by people of all ages.

"It's something much deeper than nostalgia," they say. "We think people and families are really genuinely rediscovering and connecting to the warm, secure, comfortable music of the Glorious American Songbook. And we're very happy to accommodate them."

KPC’s presentation of The Brothers Four is made possible in part by our generous Artist Sponsors: Eric & Mary Horvitz, Rich & Pat Miailovich, Grant & Nancy Silvernale, Cindy & Ralph Zech/Woodinville Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

This high-value training will be provided at no additional charge for registered conference attendees. Invensys Learning Services will award Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to participants who complete any training workshop or tutorial session, thus helping to support individual professional development requirements.

“Operating plants today face constant change, increasing pressure, cost-cutting, restructuring, and tougher performance measures. In addition, most plants today are suffering from a shortage of critical technical know-how caused by the retirement of baby boomers,” commented Peter Teo, director of Invensys Learning Services. “These training sessions are focused on helping operating plants mitigate this loss of knowledge or skills. We’re also very pleased to be able to offer – in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security and Idaho National Laboratories – a full day course on control systems security. This hands-on, intermediate-level course is structured to help students understand how attacks against process control systems could be launched and why they work. The course, which is limited to 40 students and is therefore likely to fill up quickly, will also provide mitigation strategies to help increase control system cyber security.”

According to Youssri Helmy, ITWorx CEO, “While laptops and VPN software are suitable for frequent remote users, they are often too costly and support intensive to be practical for the majority of workers, teleworkers, day extenders and occasional consultants who work from remote locations. FileWay addresses these corporate needs in a cost-effective manner. And, unlike other VPN-based solutions, Version 1.2 requires minimal support from the IT department. This frees up resources for more important issues, which is ideal for sectors such as education, government and corporate services.”

FileWay Version 1.2 Enhanced Functionality

The latest release provides remote workers with more flexibility and security to navigate, open, sort and download existing LAN files, as well as create, add, upload, copy, move, rename, delete, zip and download files and folders as if they were working directly on the primary desktop itself. Users can now create shortcuts for their frequently accessed files and folders to conveniently finish tasks.

Administrators will experience several improvements such as the new fully automated OWA integration setup, the ability to AutoShare multiple users, to list users by domain, to receive email notifications when users exceed a set number of licenses, to follow extensive audit trails and detailed access logs and to report remote access activity.

FileWay is designed for flexible deployment and robust performance in any corporate environment. It can be deployed as a standalone. NET Web service or as part of an externally facing corporate portal. The solution operates seamlessly with technologies such as NTFS, Reverse Proxy, Exchange (Outlook Web Access), Virus protection servers, Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server (ISA), and Aventail Secure Web for full leverage of existing hardware and software investments.

FileWay 1.2 improvements are based on comprehensive customer feedback from clients such as Washington University, Barry University, Sacred Heart University, Des Moines University, Firbank Grammar School, Friends Central School, IL Department of Nuclear Safety, Municipal Institute of Medical Research, Linen ‘n Things, Conquest Inc., Peppercom and Organic Denmark.

FileWay is available for a flash demo at http://www. fileway. com/flashdemo. htm (http://www. fileway. com/flashdemo. htm)

Complete FileWay documentation and pricing information is located at http://www. fileway. com (http://www. fileway. com)

American Statistical Association Endorses Call for a National Institute of Finance

American Statistical Association Endorses Call for a National Institute of Finance

The American Statistical Association (ASA) Board of Directors has endorsed a proposal to create a National Institute of Finance. ASA, which is the first organization to officially endorse the establishment of the NIF, said in its statement that "a new data and analytic infrastructure is required to maximize the effectiveness of any financial regulatory system." More information about the NIF can be found at http://www. ce-nif. org, where individuals also may sign a petition in support the Institute.

Washington, D. C. (PRWEB) August 6, 2009

The Board of Directors of the American Statistical Association (ASA), at its meeting here August 1, voted to endorse a proposal to create a National Institute of Finance (NIF). The proposal calls for the establishment of the NIF as an independent federal agency with the responsibility and authority to provide the data and analytic tools needed to safeguard the U. S. financial system.

The Board adopted the following statement in support of the NIF:
"We believe a new data and analytic infrastructure is required to maximize the effectiveness of any financial regulatory system. In view of this reality and recognizing the current effort to reform the financial regulatory system, we add our voice to the call for the creation of a National Institute of Finance containing a Financial Data Center and an Analytic Research Center."

The NIF would have the authority to gather appropriate data and provide the analytical capabilities necessary to monitor systemic risk, to perform independent risk assessments of individual financial entities, and to provide advice on the financial system to the Federal regulatory agencies and the United States Congress. The Institute would be organized under the proposed Systemic Risk Regulator and would provide data management and statistical services to the financial and regulatory communities. As conceived, the NIF's duties would not overlap those of any existing financial regulatory agency.

The NIF would have two principal organizational components: the Federal Financial Data Center (FFDC), and the Federal Financial Research and Analysis Center (FFRAC). The FFDC would collect, clean, maintain and secure all data necessary to carry out its purpose. Since data alone do not constitute useful information, the FFRAC would provide to regulatory agencies and policy makers independent statistical capabilities and computing resources to carry out their purpose.

The NIF was conceived by a group of private citizens who formed the Committee to Establish the National Institute of Finance. Committee members are working to have the NIF included as a critical component of the upcoming restructuring of financial regulation legislation in the House and/or Senate. Individuals can sign the petition to create the NIF and find more information by visiting http://www. ce-nif. org (http://www. ce-nif. org) or by contacting info[at]ce-nif[dot]org.

Washington, DC First Gospel Festival includes Three MoÂ’ Tenors Musical Director

Washington, DC First Gospel Festival includes Three MoÂ’ Tenors Musical Director

Historic Lincoln Theater lays claim to hosting first time ever gospel fest, featuring Grammy winners, headline Gospel greats, and noted Christian performers, fusing together unique talents, in effort to bridge the gap, with unity in praise.

WASHINGTON, DC (PRWEB) June 10, 2004

Grammy Award Nominated Daryl Coley is undoubtedly Gospel musicÂ’s most beloved tenor. It was very appropriate then, when Victor Simonson was asked to accompany the gospel powerhouse during the recent first annual Washington, DC Gospel Fest held at the historic Lincoln Theatre on U Street, Washington, DC. Simonson has served as Music Director for the famed Three MoÂ’ Tenors, a trio of African American operatic tenors, for the last several years.

ColeyÂ’s incredible vocal ability is likened to an instrument and SimonsonÂ’s piano virtuosity has been hailed nationwide as having hands capable of playing anything. Simonson played for the gifted tenor during his performance as well as the finale, which also featured John Tillery & Living Sacrifice, Glendale Baptist Church, Power Trio, Metro Praiz, and Duane Starling. The event was hosted by TV personality and WORD network host, Lexi. Other notable performers were Grammy Award winner Regina Belle, accompanied by Rev. Nolan Williams and Three Keys recording artists Alyson Williams.

Although SimonsonÂ’s talent has taken him to classical music venues with sopranos Denyse Graves, Angela Brown, Kishna Davis, and baritone Eric Greene, Broadway stages as the youngest African American Musical Director for a Broadway-bound show, and concert halls as a gifted singer, he is not new to the gospel world. Simonson currently serves as the Director of Organ Music at Metropolitan Baptist Church, Washington, DC under the direction of Director of Music, Nolan Williams, (Editor - African American Baptist Hymnal) and Grammy Winner Richard Smallwood. He has also worked with gospel greats such as Bobby Jones, Brent Jones, William Becton, Shirley Caesar, Grammy nominated Total Praise, Shedrick Mitchell, and actress-singer Toni Seawright, as well as, Howard University Gospel Chorale, Ephesus Ensemble, NULITES Gospel Chorus, and McDonaldÂ’s Gospel Fest winners United Voices of Praise of Brooklyn, NY. He has been seen on the WORD Network, Rosie O'Donnell, ABC Nightline, Today Show, PBS, and NBC, and was the Interim Music Director for the Boys Choir of Harlem.

Sponsored by the FLOW Foundation, the theme for the Gospel Fest, “Bridging the Gap; Unity in Praise”, reflected the overall goal of the first-time event – that was to unify the community and increase educational opportunities for youth. Chaired by Keir D. Gumbs, proceeds from the concert will go towards scholarships.

Orange County Trust Company Chooses The Edcomm Group To Deliver Elder Financial Abuse Compliance Training

Orange County Trust Company has chosen The Edcomm Group to deliver Elder Financial Abuse compliance training for its bank-wide training needs. Orange County Trust also chose to implement Edcomm’s own LMS, Learning Link® for hosting and maintenance.

NEW YORK, NY (PRWEB) July 27, 2006

Orange County Trust Company has chosen The Edcomm Group to deliver Elder Financial Abuse compliance training for its bank-wide training needs. Orange County Trust also chose to implement Edcomm’s own LMS, Learning Link® for hosting and maintenance.

With more than 5 million cases per year, financial abuse of elders is the number one crime committed against persons age 65 and older. Currently, 17 states and Washington, D. C. have passed laws that require bank personnel to report suspected cases of elder financial abuse. Another 33 states recommend it. At the federal level, substantive revision to the Elder Justice Act is in discussion and is expected to pass this year.

The Edcomm Group has been a driving force in the campaign to educate bank personnel about elder financial abuse. Edcomm’s course, Focus on Elder Financial Abuse, is designed to help banks cope with the new laws targeting elder financial abuse by teaching front line staff about how to best serve their elderly customers while reducing risk to the bank.

Focus on Elder Financial Abuse is a comprehensive eLearning program providing training on issues related to elder financial abuse. The course covers: defining elder financial abuse and the laws governing it, detecting the red flags of elder financial abuse, and reporting elder financial abuse properly. Focus on Elder Financial Abuse teaches employees in all bank departments how to identify elder abuse and how to protect both their customers and the bank, with accurate, compliant reporting.

Learning Link®, Edcomm’s full-featured learning management system has an open architecture that builds on industry-standard SCORM and AICC compliance, but adds features and capabilities far beyond any competing products. Learning Link® maintains a complete record of every learning and administrative activity and offers a wide variety of customizable, real-time reports available both onscreen and in CSV formats for download and integration into any HR system. Learning Link’s servers have been issued a SAS-70 attesting to the quality of their security, business continuity and performance.

Emini Day Trader Conducts Live Trades with Real Money Producing Real Results

Emini Day Trader Conducts Live Trades with Real Money Producing Real Results

Successful Emini day trader teaches the secrets of generating profits in a down economy by revealing results of actual trades using real money.

St. Augustine, FL (PRWEB) December 4, 2009

Professional Emini day trader David Marsh reveals the secrets of creating wealth by trading Eminis in a turbulent market. Using his trading system, anyone can take advantage the of S&P (ES) and DOW (YM) markets by trading to earn a second or replacement income.

While no one can guarantee success when it comes to trading any security or commodity, professional Emini trader David Marsh, known in the markets as the Tick Trader®, offers one of the most transparent ways of demonstrating his trading success seen anywhere by showing live trades with real money on the line.

David is a day trader who specializes in trading the Emini S&P (ES), and the Emini Dow (YM). The Emini DOW trades at US $5 per point, and the Emini S&P trades at US $12.50 per tick. In addition to trading, David offers an Emini day trading course and a free Emini trading blog with a twist.

“Lots of traders offer Emini trading courses, but there are none that I know of who prove their day trading skills by posting actual videos of their daily trading results,” Marsh said.

The daily Emini trading results are posted on Marsh’s day trading blog. Not only does the blog display the actual results of David’s Emini trading, he also uses the blog to discuss the day’s market as well as the strategies he employed and why he employed them. You can visit the blog by going to http://www. EminiTradingStrategies. com/emini-trading-blog/ (http://www. EminiTradingStrategies. com/emini-trading-blog/)

Even new traders who do not subscribe to Marsh’s online trading course can pick up a lot of knowledge to further their day trading skills simply by reading the blog for free.

Marsh came by his Tick Trader nickname because he’s willing to stop trading after he has made his daily income. Trading the S&P emini (ES) for four ticks a day can provide anybody a great income. This strategy reduces risk and makes it possible to make simple trading decisions that do not require complex market condition analysis.

According to Marsh’s Business Plan, the possibility exists to earn profits ranging from US $750 per week up to as much as US $2500 per week.

And although Marsh stresses that past performance does not guarantee future results, and all trading involves risk, he makes this very logical claim: “If traders follow the rules and execute as expected they can potentially make a living trading the S&P (ES) and Dow (YM) in as little as ninety minutes a day.”

Between Marsh’s Emini day trading course, his day trading software products and, his free Emini day trading strategy blog, the opportunity to create wealth in an uncertain economy has never been better.

David invites anyone interested in Emini day trading to visit http://www. EminiTradingStrategies. com (http://www. EminiTradingStrategies. com) to learn more.

About David Marsh:

Mr. Marsh has been a professional trader since the early 1990’s. Starting out with future’s trading, David moved to options and then on to stock trading before coming back to futures trading where he has found his home. He earns his living trading DOW and S&P Eminis and invites anyone who wants to opt out of the economic crisis to check out his Emini trading program at http://www. NEW FAMILY BOARD GAME ENHANCES AND STRENGTHENS RELATIONSHIPS

NEW FAMILY BOARD GAME ENHANCES AND STRENGTHENS RELATIONSHIPS

A new, simple, fun board game is designed to engage players in a manner that teaches them about improving the quality of lives through creating and managing the tools of positive relationships

MORGANTON, NC (PRWEB) December 10, 2003

Recognizing a void in easy, fun, instructive board games to improve quality of lives through better management of relationships, Ronnie L. Mace, a Certified Reality Therapist, invented CONNECTIONS™, an entertaining, dialogue-enriched game that directs players to paths leading to success.

Sales of CONNECTIONS™ were formally kicked off Nov. 26 during a gathering in Morganton of the game’s development team and beta testers, which included therapists, educators, graphic designers, business leaders and several of Mace’s friends and colleagues.

Since the launch, Mace has sold more than 200 of the CONNECTIONS™ game. Customers include the Conflict Resolutions Center, East Burke Middle School, Cognitive Connections, Inc. and the Glasser Institute.

The game is currently sold directly through Connections Worldwide, Inc., based in Morganton. Game orders can be submitted through the Internet, telephone, fax and mail. Additional details are available on the web site, www. theconnectionsgame. com.

A Burke County native, Mace has taken what is a complex relationship-based theory that is largely confined to psychological clinical circles and, through an ingeniously simple and engaging design, created a family and institutional game that enables players to benefit from the core of the theory and have fun doing it.

CONNECTIONS ™ is inspired from Dr. William Glasser’s “Choice Theory®,” as described in his book, “Choice Theory®, A New Psychology of Personal Freedom.” This theory teaches that the only person you can control is yourself, and the only thing about yourself that you can control is your thinking and acting behavior. This is the source of personal freedom.

“You can learn the lessons of Choice Theory® and improve your life without ever having to crack a book, attend a lecture or lie on a couch,” Mace said. “You will emerge from several rounds of playing CONNECTIONS™ more in tune with how you communicate and interact with others and how others communicate with you. You will become a better communicator, a better boss, a better teacher, a better friend, a better parent and a better mate.”

“CONNECTIONS™ is a simple and fun game,” he said. “You will be astounded what you learn about your opponents. You will be astonished what you will learn about yourself.”

Designed for two to six players older than seven years, CONNECTIONS™ consists of a simple board featuring a colorful layout of two tracks on which players progress. They use dice to determine moves. Throughout the course of the game, players draw cards that guide them through personal examples of habits that lead to constructive and destructive relationships.

It is a game that is designed to be played repeatedly, with participants tracking and scoring progress during the playing period.

Initially targeted for schools, church youth groups, family intervention and crisis centers and correctional centers, the game has many applications beyond those arenas and reaches into the everyday household.

Mace investigated and developed CONNECTIONS™ for two years, during which he created prototypes and supportive materials. He shared the concept with a circle of advisors and friends, who explored its merit through their own professional connections in the educational and psychological industries.

CONNECTIONS™ was developed with thorough field testing using a variety of players, including middle school students, teachers, families, office workers and family crisis participants and employees.

What emerged is a complete gaming concept that is visually designed to portray connecting and disconnecting habits with an underlying goal of helping participants become the best person they can be.

“It’s the only time in my life that I’ve seen an interactive game that has the potential to change people to be more positive in their relationships or their behaviors,” said Robert Patton, principal of East Burke Middle School. “One of the first thoughts that I had is that CONNECTIONS™ is so simple. There are many methods of counseling. And most of those methods involve an active listener giving feedback and asking appropriate questions to determine how to proceed with problem solving. This game does all of that without having to have the interaction with a counselor. You become your own counselor through playing the game and the changes that it creates are ones that are self-imposed decisions arrived at by each individual through playing the game.”

“It has the ability to cause me and each of us who play the game to try hard to be better in our relationships with everyone else,” Patton said. “I also see it having an impact on students in the middle school setting.”

The launch of the new relationship-oriented boardgame could not come at a better time. In the post 9-11 world people are more focused on “nesting” than they have been in recent history. Sales of board games are surging as families rediscover the pleasures of interacting that comes with many board games.

Additionally, a recent article in TIME magazine analyzed a new breed of romantic counseling that is being offered as formal courses at colleges and high schools across the country. The article, titled “Relationships 101,” quotes Sarah Brown, president of the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, as saying, “There’s a great hunger for understanding relationships, not just body parts.”

Mace is a Certified Reality Therapist and Chief Financial Officer of Blue Ridge Community Action, Inc., a Morganton, NC-based, non-profit, low-income assistance organization. Orthopedic Oncologist and Assistant Professor Dr. James C. Wittig Named New York University's 2007 Teacher of the Year

Orthopedic Oncologist and Assistant Professor Dr. James C. Wittig Named New York University's 2007 Teacher of the Year

Selected by medical students from more than 120 orthopedic surgeons at NYU, Dr. Wittig was named Teacher of the Year for his 'dedication, passion, devotion to patient care and interaction, resident education and research and surgical technique,' and described by his students, particularly Sam Sanders, MD, Paul Lafferty, MD, Kevin Kaplan, MD and Brian Neri, MD as 'exemplifying everything a Teacher of the Year should be."

New York, NY (PRWEB) July 15, 2007

James C. Wittig, MD, Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Oncology at New York University School of Medicine, NYU Medical Center and the Hospital for Joint Diseases, has been named NYU's Teacher of the Year.

As part of the nomination, Dr. Lafferty praised Dr. Wittig's unmatched accessibility to patients and students, and described a time when Dr. Wittig performed surgery on an 18 month old boy who suffered with a benign aggressive tumor of the elbow. Under Dr. Wittig's surgical expertise and medical care, the child was able to retain upper extremity function and looks forward to a normal, healthy life. In addition, Dr. Sanders noted that patients, even those with the most serious medical issues, are easily put at ease by the way Dr. Wittig speaks with them. His dedication and passion does not stop with his patients, but goes beyond. In addition to focusing on his patient's needs, he is as passionate about educating his residents utilizing a wide array of resources including a section of his website exclusively for orthopedic residents which includes "multiple videos/power point presentations and electronic versions of his lecture series as well as personally e-mailing interesting cases to the residents every two weeks."

Although there are many priorities that make up Dr. Wittig's day, Dr. Neri makes it clear that Dr. Wittig is '…consistent and unwavering in his priority of training residents." One of the key reasons Dr. Kaplan believes that Dr. Wittig deserves the Teacher of the Year award is for the way he has shown 'residents how to be a "complete doctor" whether in his office consulting with patients, in the operating room teaching as he performs surgery or being available to his residents even on limited personal time.

New Hope & Resilience After Destruction and Killings in Gaza, Israel

New Hope & Resilience After Destruction and Killings in Gaza, Israel

James S. Gordon, M. D., the distinguished psychiatrist who leads the Washington D. C.-based Center for Mind-Body Medicine (CMBM), has just returned from Gaza and Israel, where he heard first-hand testimony from people and institutions who were targeted by the Israeli army--contradictory to the IDF's statements. Working in nearby Sderot, he also heard firsthand Israeli reactions to what has happened, and their difficulty accepting Israel's role in the conflict. Both sides are wounded and grieving from the violence, and now is the time to hear this testimony, and to begin the healing process--which Dr. Gordon and the CMBM team's training of 150 mental health professionals is setting in motion.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 20, 2009

James S. Gordon, M. D., the distinguished psychiatrist who leads the Washington D. C.-based Center for Mind-Body Medicine (CMBM), just returned from Gaza and Israel, where he heard first-hand testimony from people and institutions who were targeted by the Israeli army--contradictory to the IDF's statements. Working in nearby Sderot, he also heard firsthand Israeli reactions to what has happened, and their difficulty accepting Israel's role in the conflict. Both sides are wounded and grieving from the violence, and now is the time to bring this testimony to light, and begin healing.

Dr. Gordon lead an international team of Christian, Muslim, and Jewish mental health professionals into Gaza in a groundbreaking effort to relieve population-wide psychological trauma in Gaza and nearby Israeli towns. He and his colleagues supervised their Gaza faculty in a poignant, powerful, life-affirming, and life-changing 5-day training of 150 of Gaza's most gifted and committed health and mental health professionals.

Dr. Gordon also spent several days in Israel with counselors in Sderot, Israel (http://www. cmbm. org/integrative_GLOBAL_OUTREACH/israel_overview. php), which has been shelled from Gaza for eight years, and with CMBM's Israeli faculty, before he entered Gaza on March 4th. He returned March 15th.

For the last seven years, Dr. Gordon and his CMBM team have been working intensively with the traumatized population in Gaza and Israel separately and jointly--they are the only organization doing so. During this time, they trained 300 Israeli professionals and 90 in Gaza to develop comprehensive, scientifically based programs that are effectively treating widespread posttraumatic stress disorder (http://www. cmbm. org/integrative_GLOBAL_OUTREACH/global_outreach_mission. php), major depression, anxiety, violence, and despair.

CMBM's program is a powerful force for hope for those living in Gaza. Before the recent Israeli invasion, CMBM's Gaza team, which has treated 15-20,000 children and adults, was providing up to 75 ten-week long mind-body groups every three months. In the aftermath of the devastation, the number of groups has tripled. The CMBM approach is currently also being offered to hundreds of families that lost members in the conflict and to the seriously injured, to orphaned children, abused women, mothers with 'failure to thrive' infants, and the depressed, suicidal, and violent.

CMBM's pioneering program, which recently received a research award from the US Department of Defense, combines mind-body techniques of meditation, guided imagery, biofeedback, and yoga with self-expression in words, drawings, and movement in a supportive small group setting.

During his eight days in Gaza, Dr. Gordon spoke with dozens of men and women who suffered loss of children and spouses, and with children disoriented and distraught from the deaths of parents, and the destruction of their homes, neighborhoods, and schools, He learned how families used mind-body techniques--meditation while bombs fell, shaking their bodies to relieve tension after a nearby battle, and family "check-ins" to share pain and sorrow--to find "hope. . . strength, resiliency, even power" (as one CMBM school psychologist put it) in the midst of despair.

A wealth of data supports CMBM's unique, highly effective model, which has been used to help traumatized populations in postwar Kosovo, post-Katrina New Orleans, as well as Israel and Gaza, and is now being implemented on an increasingly large scale with US military returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and their families. "This model is," as Dr. Gordon says, "welcomed by people of all ages and races around the world because it is educational, non-stigmatizing, and demonstrably beneficial. It can be easily taught and can be used by all people of all ages on their own." Dr. Gordon describes this groundbreaking approach in his newest book, Unstuck: Your Guide to the Seven-Stage Journey Out of Depression (http://www. jamesgordonmd. com/unstuck-self-healing-depression. html) (Penguin Press; June 2008).

The results of CMBM's program are well-documented and remarkable. A randomized controlled trial (RCT) on the use of the model with war-traumatized children in Kosovo -- the first RCT of any intervention with war-traumatized children -- was published in the prestigious Journal of Clinical Psychiatry in 2008; it showed an 80% decrease in symptoms following 12 sessions of mind-body skills groups. Also, data collected on children and adults in the CMBM Gaza program revealed significant decreases in symptoms of PTSD and depression and anger and increased hopefulness in those who participated in CMBM groups, gains which were largely maintained even during the ongoing siege of Gaza at six months' follow-up.

With 15 trips to Gaza as well as Israel, and hundreds of in-depth interviews, Dr. Gordon has an intimate knowledge and authoritative understanding of Gazans' remarkable capacity for resiliency, faith, and trust, as well as profound suffering. He is also deeply knowledgeable about the ongoing emotional devastation experienced by Israelis. Remarkably, in this stubborn conflict, he is capable of discussing similarities and differences between the Israeli and Palestinian experience of the situation. He is available for immediate comment and interview.

Summer’s Over, But PLiNTHandCHiNTZ. com Is Just Heating Up: The Unique “Blogzine” Serves As Hip Virtual Mentor To Emerging Interior Designers

Summer’s Over, But PLiNTHandCHiNTZ. com Is Just Heating Up: The Unique “Blogzine” Serves As Hip Virtual Mentor To Emerging Interior Designers

PLiNTHandCHiNTZ. com is a unique website with a mission: not only to create better interior designers, but also more well-rounded citizens. With stories aimed at 20-somethings who may need etiquette or interview coaching, to travel tales on design destinations, to profiles of former interior designers like Jennifer Velarde, founder of 1154 Lill Studios Custom Handbags, the combination blog/on-line magazine audience ranges far beyond the design industry. The site turned 2 years old this September, proudly publishing its 25th online issue and continuing to amass dedicated readers.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) September 30, 2006

PLiNTHandCHiNTZ. com, the unique website whose mission is not only to create better interior designers, but also more well-rounded citizens, celebrates its second birthday this month.

The “edutainment” approach of “learning can be fun” is working. The advertising-supported site now boasts over 13,000 monthly subscribers with about 7,000 more unique visitors dropping in to the site each month. Positive feedback comes from readers around the world, including the UK, Belgium, Canada, Austria, and New Zealand. Approximately 75% of the content is submitted by contributors on subjects that they or the editorial staff have suggested. Contributors include professional writers, designers, students, furniture manufacturers, and leaders of industry organizations.

Educators who have discovered the site are recommending it to their students and even listing it on the syllabus as a resource for its well-written glossary of design terms. Design professors also find valuable information to use while preparing lesson plans. Practicing interior designers cruise the site for new information in an easily-digestible format. Manufacturers contribute articles and advertise on the site in order to connect with emerging designers and get their brands in front of these future specifiers.

The blogzine was started by interior designer Laura McDonald, ASID/IIDA after getting the “7-year itch” at the design firm where she worked. She conceived of PLiNTH & CHiNTZ as a forum to educate interior design students on topics that are not taught in design school. Everything from interacting with clients to knowing how to work with a furniture dealer can be found on the site. McDonald’s sense of humor and willingness to ride the edge of political correctness is apparent in the Mission Statement: “To bridge the gap between the student / educational community and the professional / manufacturer community of the interior design world, and not to die of boredom while we do it.”

Podcasts are the newest feature added to the site. Driven by contributor James Ledoux’s enthusiasm for the technology, the first podcast was published in the May 2006 issue and featured Ledoux interviewing writer/personal productivity expert Merlin Mann of 43folders. com. The following month McDonald and her business partner, Amy S. Johnson, used the podcast platform as a means to report on their findings each day while attending the NeoCon design industry conference in Chicago. The resulting podcasts gave listeners a taste of the energy and excitement that defines the show, while highlighting the products/companies that caught their attention.

PLiNTHandCHiNTZ. com will continue promoting the integrity of the interior design profession and education while challenging its readers to get involved in their local communities and charities to produce better designers and better citizens through PLiNTHandCHiNTZ. com.

HSA Trustee Services Adds MyMedLab for Further HSA Savings

HSA Trustee Services Adds MyMedLab for Further HSA Savings

HSA Trustee Services, a nationwide leader specializing in no-monthly-fee Health Savings Accounts (HSA), is adding MyMedLab to its list of free products to bring additional savings to its customers.

Lake Geneva, WI (PRWEB) September 26, 2005

HSA Trustee Services, a nationwide leader specializing in no-monthly-fee Health Savings Accounts (HSA), is adding MyMedLab to its list of free products to bring additional savings to its customers. This new solution brings the same comprehensive lab testing, once only available to doctors, directly to the public at a savings of up to 80% less than the cost of traditional clinic or hospital testing.

"Our mission is to remove the barriers keeping consumers from learning more about their health. The first and most obvious barrier was cost. Even routine testing for conditions like Diabetes and Heart Disease can cost consumers hundreds of dollars in lab fees from local hospital labs. MyMedLab allows consumers nationwide to order and purchase their testing online as part of a group of thousands instead of a party of one. This negotiated group rate means the exact same tests costs 50%-80% less at our 1200 collection sites nationwide" explains David Clymer, President/CEO of MyMedLab.

"The second major obstacle is access to results. In the past, patient results were the property of the ordering physician and the patient had to wait on their doctor for results. This usually came in the form of a phone call weeks later telling them everything was fine. The old way leaves the patient dependant on their doctor for all their health care knowledge and what information the doctor is willing to disclose. MyMedLab reports directly to the consumer within 48 hours and allows them to decide who has access to the results.

The third major obstacle is privacy of medical records. As the health care industry moves to "digital records" to make a patient's health information more accessible between providers, they also make them more accessible to third parties like insurance companies and employers. These groups are protecting their own interests not the consumers. MyMedLab's goal is to educate consumers about their health without compromising their future insurability. By reporting screening results directly to consumers, the information is completely confidential and never becomes part of their permanent medical record unless they chose to provide them.

MyMedLab is designed to be the easiest and most cost effective way for consumer to educate themselves about their health. We're helping consumer create their own Personal and Confidential Health Record much like they already have for financial and legal matters. The result is better health and lower cost. Screenings can detect potential problems early, when treatment and changes in lifestyle can be the most effective and least costly" says Clymer.

The addition of MyMedLab services is consistent with the philosophy of HSA Trustee Services. "Bringing additional savings to our HSA customers is of utmost importance to us. We believe strongly in Consumer Directed Health Plans, and believe they will restore the control for medical costs directly to the educated consumer. Our mission is to provide the tools, education and support that will lower health costs for our customers. MyMedLab can save hundreds of dollars on comprehensive lab testing. We are proud to add MyMedLab to our other HSA savings products, including Section 125 plans for pre-tax payroll savings, My Medical Control for assistance on consumer portions of the medical claim, and our hsa Rx Card program, which offers not only the ability to get real time pricing from a pharmacy in local area, but also the ability to identify the drug substitutions that may be available for the customer's current prescription that may yield significant savings, from an average 12.5% up to 45%", said Tim Morales of HSA Trustee Services. "We feel our no-monthly-fee account already offers significant savings over other providers, but we also believe strongly in offering complete support for consumers in their efforts to regain control over escalating medical costs".

AWARD WINNING AUTHOR MICHAEL ONDAATJE TO RECEIVE PRESTIGIOUS ROBERT WISE AWARD FROM THE AMERICAN CINEMA EDITORS (ACE)

Award winning author Michael Ondaatje (The English Patient) honored by the American Cinema Editors with the Robert Wise Award which recognizes journalists whose work illuminates the craft of editing. Ondaatje is a novelist whose latest work The Conversations: Walter Murch and the Art of Editing is on the Best Seller List.

UNIVERSAL CITY, CA, January 31 – Award-winning author Michael Ondaatje will receive the Robert Wise Award from the American Cinema Editors (ACE) at the organization’s 53rd Annual ACE Eddie Awards on February 23, 2003 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The Robert Wise Award recognizes a journalist whose writing has contributed significantly in elevating public consciousness to the crucial role of editing in the filmmaking process. OndaatjeÂ’s most recent book, The Conversations: Walter Murch and the Art of Editing Film, is a New York Times Bestseller that details his conversations with Murch, whose film and sound editing career includes some of the most iconic films in recent memory: American Graffiti, The Godfather I-III, Apocalypse Now, The Unbearable Lightness of Being and The English Patient, among many others.

The prestigious honor has only been handed out once before at the 50th Annual ACE Eddie Awards ceremony. Robert Wise presented the inaugural award to Jack Tucker, A. C.E., a film editor who also served as the editor of the ACE magazine, CinemaEditor for several years. Rather than bestow the honor annually, the ACE Board meets each year to determine if any literary work significant to editing meets the criteria of the Robert Wise Award and, if so, they vote on who will be recognized.

“This was an effortless decision,” says ACE President Tina Hirsch. “Michael Ondaatje’s book captures the spirit of this award perfectly. His most recent work not only chronicles the amazing contributions of Walter Murch to his craft, but illuminates the exciting art of editing and filmmaking as a whole.”

In The Conversations, Ondaatje details discussions that took place with Murch over a period of one year including behind-the-scenes glimpses of the maverick group that became Zoetrope, including Francis For Coppola and George Lucas. There is inside talk on the different working styles of directors like Anthony Minghella, Philip Kaufman and Fred Zinnemann, insight on how a film is put together and how the process of editing in film compares to editing in writing.

Ondaatje is a celebrated novelist whose other titles include AnilÂ’s Ghost, In the Skin of a Lion, Running in the Family, Coming Through Slaughter and The English Patient, the latter made into an Academy Award-winning film, edited by Murch. Although best known as a novelist, OndaatjeÂ’s work also encompasses poetry, memoir and film. His many accolades include Kiriyama Pacific Rim Book Prize, the Prix medicis, the Governor GeneralÂ’s Award, the Giller Prize and the British CommonwealthÂ’s highest honor – the Booker Prize.

The Robert Wise Award will be presented to Michael Ondaatje at the 53rd Annual ACE Eddie Awards on February 23, 2003 during the black-tie ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. As previously announced, Kathleen Kennedy will be honored with the ACE Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year Award. John Burnett, A. C.E. and Tom Rolf, A. C.E. will receive Lifetime Career Achievement kudos.

Tickets to the ACE Eddie awards ceremony are available by calling the office of the American Cinema Editors at (818) 777-2900.

AMERICAN CINEMA EDITORS

The American Cinema Editors (ACE) is an honorary society of motion picture editors founded in 1950. Film editors are voted into membership on the basis of their professional achievements, their dedication to the education of others and their commitment to the craft of editing. The objectives and purposes of the American Cinema Editors are to advance the art and science of the editing profession; to increase the entertainment value of motion pictures by attaining artistic pre-eminence and scientific achievement in the creative art of editing; to bring into close alliance those editors who desire to advance the prestige and dignity of the editing profession.
