There are ways to overcome these crippling fears and move on to a more successful path free of anxiety. My new website illustrates this point to its visitors, and contains testimonials from individuals of all walks of life to show visitors that they are not alone, and they do have options," said Cetlin.

A psychologist and performance coach with 32 years of professional experience, Cetlin treats lawyers, executives, actors, students, and business people and helps them to overcome their public speaking fear, test taking anxiety, litigation anxiety and perform at their optimum level through her original treatment process.

Cetlin uses a unique combination of powerful techniques, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), mental rehearsal and training, on-site live rehearsal and nuerofeedback to help her clients increase productivity, decrease anxiety, and in many cases, learn to enjoy what they had previously feared worse than death.

I decided in order to conquer my fear I needed professional help so I began to work with Nancy. Her work with me was extremely thorough, systematic, and more successful than I could have imagined! Most importantly, my speech was successful and my fear of public speaking is 100% gone…forever! NFAN Launches Self-Help Website for Debtors

The National Financial Awareness Network launched their debt-related self-help website, HelpForDebtors. com, that provides information on state and federal fair debt collection laws as well as a forum for exchanging questions, comments and stories related to the struggle against debt.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) August 10, 2006

The National Financial Awareness Network, a Dallas-based financial literacy company, this week launched HelpForDebtors. com, a website that offers information on fair debt collection and provides a platform for consumers and debt professionals to share information on debt-related issues.

HelpForDebtors. com includes information on arbitration, wage garnishment, statues of limitations and the importance of the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (FDCPA), a federal law designed to protect consumers against abusive and deceptive debt collection practices.

To provide general information to residents of each state regarding their state-specific consumer laws, HelpForDebtors. com provides a summary on each state’s consumer protection laws that supplement the FDCPA. Each state-specific page also provides helpful links to resources for that state. These resources include the state’s court system website, attorney general’s office website and online state legislation resources, when applicable.

“Not having accurate information can place additional stress on people struggling with debt and can also leave them vulnerable to abusive debt collection practices,” explained NFAN President John Janney. “HelpForDebtors. com provides basic information state and federal fair debt collection laws and provides an interactive forum where people can share questions, answers, experiences and other information related to the fight against indebtedness.”

To help consumers better understand the collection process, Janney said the website includes a “Frequently Asked Questions” page that addresses common concerns about debt collection. The website also includes real-life sample collection letters, arbitration notices and summons and complaints documents so consumers can see what they can expect if they fall behind in their struggling with debt repayment.

“HelpForDebtors. com provides value on both sides of the information exchange, making it a truly win-win opportunity for debtors as well as attorneys and other professionals who dedicate their lives to helping debt-ridden consumers,” said Janney. “The community we build through this website will become an important platform for creating informed consumers who contribute to our economy in positive and sustainable ways.”

Janney said HelpForDebtors. com is also a valuable resource for debt collection agencies who want to keep their debt collectors informed about fair debt collection issues in their efforts to avoid engaging in unfair and abusive debt collection practices.

Adults are Heading Back to School at Historic Rates

Adults are Heading Back to School at Historic Rates

Four out of 10 college students are 25 or older: The adult learning market is one of the fastest growing segments of higher education. In fact, today only a little more than 16% of the higher education population in the United States are traditional 18 to 22 year olds, according to Eduventures, the leading research and consulting firm for the education industry.

Chester, PA (PRWEB) March 19, 2007

The adult learning market is one of the fastest growing segments of higher education. In fact, today only a little more than 16% of the higher education population in the United States are traditional 18 to 22 year olds, according to Eduventures, the leading research and consulting firm for the education industry.

"Those college students you picture in your mind, you may have to put a few more gray hairs on their heads," said Lori Mitchell with UCEAdirectory. org. "Right now, nearly 40% of all students enrolled in degree-granting institutions are 25 years old or older."

Leading by Example

Steven Moore, a 36-year-old father of three, returned to college after what he calls a "perfect storm" of circumstances, all converging at the same time. He was unhappy in a sales career and wanted more out of life. Moore decided to go back to school to get his college degree in preparation for law school. His first choice, The George Washington University, accepted him. Moore moved his family from San Antonio, Texas to the Washington, DC area, where he has now lived for a little more than a year. "For the first time in years, I feel like I am right where I am supposed to be," said Moore.

Patricia Agnew, a 45-year-old mother, returned to school to challenge herself. She also wanted to show her only child the importance of an education. Agnew graduated in 2005 from Washington University in St. Louis, with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She says the best part of getting a degree is the feeling of success and accomplishment. For Agnew, the hardest part was being away from her daughter. She credits her family and friends for helping keep her eye on the prize. "With a lot of faith and determination, it can be done," continued Agnew. "It's all about balance, time management, and determining your priorities."

John Boomhover, a 36-year-old business man, returned to college to make sure his goals become reality. "My goal is to be an executive officer of a company," says the Champlain College MBA grad student. "I want to be able to help lead a company and make decisions that will improve it and the lives of the people who work for it." Boomhover says getting an MBA allows him to learn and apply news schools of thought on a higher level. "It will provide me with the skills to analyze business trends and data in order to make the right decision," continued Boomhover.

Online Resources

As adults like Moore, Agnew and Boomhover consider their options, they are beginning their search online through search engines and education portals. One such portal is UCEAdirectory. org, a service of the University Continuing Education Association (UCEA), one of the oldest college organizations in the U. S. UCEAdirectory. org is a free, objective resource to help adults go back to school by:

Finding an accredited university and program.  Being inspired by stories from other adults who have gone back to school.  Reading original articles offering helpful information and advice.  Identifying the best options to balance work and life --online or on campus.

"Going back to school is a big decision," continued Mitchell. "And UCEAdirectory. org leverages the history and connections with accredited colleges and universities that offer some of the best continuing and professional education in the country."

About UCEAdirectory. org

UCEAdirectory. org successfully connects learners to continuing education programs from trusted universities and colleges - whether online, face-to-face, or a combination of the two. Potential students can search the website by subject matter, location, and mode of instruction (online or classroom), easily identifying the best options for meeting their academic needs. UCEAdirectory. org is limited to higher education institutions that are fully accredited and members of UCEA. For more information on UCEAdirectory. org, visit http://www. uceadirectory. org/ (http://www. uceadirectory. org/).

EDITORS NOTE: UCEAdirectory. org can provide you with contact information for adults who have gone back to school and who are available for interviews to offer advice on making this transition.

National Collegiate Scouting Association Announces Nationwide Contest for College Athletic Recruiting Education

National Collegiate Scouting Association Announces Nationwide Contest for College Athletic Recruiting Education

National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) would like to announce a national contest offering free college athletic recruiting seminars for student athletes and families.

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) April 9, 2009

The nation's premier source of college athletic recruiting education is pleased to announce a contest designed to teach coaches, parents, and student-athletes about the realities of the college recruiting process. NCSA will be providing 50 free "College Recruiting Simplified" Events at high schools across the country.

College Recruiting Simplified (CRS) has been requested at more than 2,000 high schools, camps, and combines across the country and outlines the "5 things every recruit needs to know" and the "5 things every recruit must do" in order to get recruited. CRS is presented by a member of NCSA's celebrated Recruiting Expert team consisting of former professional and college athletes, college coaches, award winning authors and journalists, and Olympians.

Over the last nine years, NCSA has recognized a growing number of high school athletes who are pursuing collegiate athletic opportunities without the correct knowledge of how the process works. That realization, combined with the current economical issues facing families nationwide, NCSA felt the timing was perfect to offer this once in a lifetime opportunity to 50 deserving high schools. According to NCSA CEO, Chris Krause, "The price of a college education is constantly increasing, and with that grows the need for athletic scholarships to offset that investment. Unfortunately, according to a recent high school athletic director survey, only 18% of families are properly educated about the process. The reality is that most families are unfamiliar with the recruiting process, and that knowledge is critical to maximizing collegiate scholarship potential."

The CRS Contest is open to anyone who believes in providing recruiting education including, but not limited to, student-athletes, parents, and high school coaches or administrators. Entry only requires a 200 word essay about why your high school needs recruiting education. The contest ends May 1st, 2009.

To enter the CRS Contest and potentially host a CRS event at your high school for free, follow the instructions here: CRS Contest Details (http://blog. ncsasports. org/2009/03/23/win-a-free-recruiting-event-for-your-high-school/). For more information about the CRS Contest, contact Adam Diorio at 312-624-7430 x7430 or
Adiorio(at)ncsasports. org.

Founded in 200, NCSA has quickly grown to become the nation's premier scouting and recruiting organization for college coaches and high school student athletes. For more information about NCSA, visit http://visit (http://visit) the NCSA website.

Intel Capital, Innovacom and Alven Invest 6 Million Euros in Metaboli, Accelerating the Expansion of Europe’s Leading Games on Demand Offering

Intel Capital, Innovacom and Alven Invest 6 Million Euros in Metaboli, Accelerating the Expansion of Europe’s Leading Games on Demand Offering

Metaboli, European leader in the digital distribution of video games through broadband, has today announced the conclusion of its second round of funding for a total of 6 million Euros.

Paris, France (PRWEB) December 6, 2005

Metaboli, European leader in the digital distribution of video games (http://www. metaboli. com/) through broadband (http://www. metaboli. com/), has today announced the conclusion of its second round of funding for a total of 6 million Euros. The three new investors in Metaboli are Intel Capital, Innovacom and Alven Capital. This new round of funding will help Metaboli accelerate its European expansion and further consolidate its place as the leader in this market in Europe.

Formed in 2001 by a group of telecom specialists passionate about video games (http://www. metaboli. com/), Metaboli represents the new generation of game distributors:

The games are offered by download to broadband internet users.  The games offered are the ones sold on CD-Rom or DVD in retail.  Metaboli’s model was initially focused on a subscription principle: with a monthly subscription of €9.90 (Essential Collection) or €19.90 (Ultimate Collection), Metaboli gives users unlimited access to a catalogue of over 100 video games to download and play all they want.  Metaboli is now also developping an offer of Buy & Download, as Publishers are becoming more open to this model: users buy their chosen game, download it, and play it indefinately.

Metaboli has built up partnerships with the world’s main video game publishers including Atari, Codemasters, DreamCatcher, Eidos, Microsoft Games Studio, THQ and Ubisoft, and as such offers the best catalogue of video games (http://www. metaboli. com/) available to download (http://www. metaboli. com/) in Europe. Aimed at all games fans, the Metaboli offer also constitutes a positive and legal alternative to software piracy.

Metaboli supplies Games on Demand turnkey solutions to broadband Internet Service Providers and large internet gateways, such as Wanadoo (http://jeuxvideo. wanadoo. fr (http://jeuxvideo. wanadoo. fr)), AOL, RTL, PackardBell, and a dozen other major Internet gateways. The Metaboli service is also available at www. metaboli. fr and www. metaboli. co. uk.

Development and leadership of Metaboli in Europe

The development of Metaboli is aided by the explosive growth of broadband (http://www. metaboli. com/) and the public’s interest in digital distribution, much like services such as iTunes and Napster in the music market, or that of films with the emerging Video on Demand services.

With more than 25 000 subscribers (20 000 of which have been acquired in the last 12 months), Metaboli is one of the rare European companies that has a proven subscription model for access to premium content. ”Metaboli has seen exceptional growth in the past 2 years. This new boost in capital and the support of shareholders of this quality will allow Metaboli to accelerate its development on a European scale,” commented Pierre Goubet, CEO of Metaboli.

New Investors Appropriate to Metaboli’s Strategy

Metaboli’s focus aligns with Intel’s Digital Home vision and platform focus. As entertainment and educational content goes digital, consumers want to access that content on multiple devices including TVs, PCs, handhelds and stereos. Intel is investing both internally and externally to make this happen by eliminating the boundaries between electronic devices inside and outside the home and apply the performance, cost and integration benefits of Moore’s Law to consumer electronics. Intel is also helping to pave the way for new services to deliver digital entertainment and information. The ultimate goal is to enhance and simplify the digital home experience for consumers worldwide. “Metaboli’s success in the emerging digital entertainment market with ‘gaming on demand’ aligns well with our vision to enable consumers to get their entertainment content any time, anywhere and on any device,” said Kevin Corbett, vice president and general manager of the Content Services Group, Intel Digital Home Group. “Intel is very excited to be working with Metaboli to provide cutting edge broadband gaming experiences to the PC, the TV and variety of other digital home devices.”

Metaboli will also benefit from the experience of Innovacom, notably on the Kelkoo dossier, which is a great example in terms of the quality of the operation and partnership development. “I am convinced that, with the development of broadband networks, digital distribution of content will soar considerably in the coming years. And that goes double for video games. When I found out about Metaboli, I was both impressed and seduced by their vision, the services on offer and the team.” stated Frédéric Humbert, Partner – Innovacom.

Metaboli will also be able to take advantage of the competence of Alven Capital, a venture capital firm known for its contribution to the creation and the success of companies specialising in content distribution via Internet. “Metaboli allows video games publishers to considerably enlarge their distribution network and profit from the growth of e-commerce in complete security. We have been impressed by a highly performing, well fused team of founders that complement each other well” - Nicolas Celier, Alven Capital

Original Shareholders Confirm Their Interest and Their Support

Nicominvest and I-Source, original shareholders in Metaboli, are very optimistic of Metaboli’s future development, and they wished to take a major part in this new round of financing. “Nicominvest is proud to have believed in this project which is at the heart of its ultra-broadband development strategy, already at a very advanced phase, and to have taken part in its realisation with I-Source.” explained Alain Nicolazzi, CEO of Nicominvest (and ex-founder of Omnicom and Mangoosta).

“Having arrived at the birth of the company in June 2002, we have been able to see the project go from strength to strength.” commented Nicolas Boulay, I-Source Gestion, “The team has done exceptional work, earning the trust of both the publishers and gamers. It has positioned the company in a firm, promising market as well as convincing important investors and allowing the company to concentrate on its new target: Europe and maybe more.”

BKWine Organizes a Unique Wine Fair and Wine Competition in Paris for Scandinavian Wine Producers, 11 February 2006

BKWine Organizes a Unique Wine Fair and Wine Competition in Paris for Scandinavian Wine Producers, 11 February 2006

BKWine, in collaboration with the Swedish Club in Paris, organises the BKWine Scandinavian Wine Fair on February 11, 2006. The fair will showcase Scandinavians who make wine or who are internationally involved in other ways in wine (e. g. the wine trade). Scandinavian producers of other “noble beverages” (like cognac) will also participate in the fair. The Scandinavian Wine Fair will be open to both trade and to the public and will take place at the Swedish Club in Paris (242, rue Rivoli) on Saturday February 11, 2006.

(PRWEB) November 7, 2005

BKWine, in collaboration with the Swedish Club in Paris, organises the BKWine Scandinavian Wine Fair on February 11, 2006. The fair will showcase Scandinavians who make wine or who are internationally involved in other ways in wine (e. g. the wine trade). Scandinavian producers of other “noble beverages” (like cognac) will also participate in the fair. The Scandinavian Wine Fair will be open to both trade and to the public and will take place at the Swedish Club in Paris (242, rue Rivoli) on Saturday February 11, 2006.

In connection with the Scandinavian Wine Fair BKWine will also organize the World’s First Scandinavian Wine Competition (also open to cognac and other noble beverages). All Scandinavian wine producers around the world are welcome to participate in the competition, even if they do not participate in the fair. The competition will be judged by a panel of international wine experts and the winners will be announced at the Wine Fair, on Saturday February 11.

Louise Agerman, director of the Swedish Club, says: “It has become a bit of a tradition to do this together with Britt Karlsson (who runs BKWine). Since many French people (and others!) think that we only drink beer and schnapps in Scandinavia it is a particular joy to do such a unique thing as a Scandinavian Wine Fair. And on top of it, it is a great occasion to bring together all of the Scandinavian nations”.

This is the third time that BKWine organises a Scandinavian wine fair. Britt Karlsson, founder of BKWine, says: “The first time I did the fair was in 1996 and then again in 2004. We had so much positive feedback from the last Scandinavian Wine Fair, both from exhibitors and from visitors, that we decided to do it again in 2006. I know there are more than 100 Scandinavian wine producers around the world and I hope many of those will participate!”

At the last event, the Scandinavian Wine Fair 2004, 37 Scandinavian producers participated showing wines (and cognac) from 8 different countries: Sweden, Denmark, France, Bulgaria, Italy, USA, Spain and Portugal. The 2004 fair had 350 visitors of which one third was professionals (sommeliers, wine trade, journalists etc).

The BKWine Scandinavian Wine Fair in Paris is an occasion for wine producers to meet in an informal context and to make their products known to a wine loving public as well as to professionals.

Britt Karlsson underlines: “It is quite surprising how many Scandinavians make wine or trade in wine internationally. We will no doubt have a large number of exhibitors from France, but also from Italy, and maybe even Spain, Portugal and the US. When we closed the doors on the 2004 event many of the exhibitors (and visitors) said that they thought it was a great event and that we should do it again. And we will! So now we hope for, and count on, even more exhibitors and visitors!”

Kindersay is a free web-based program designed to help preschoolers (Ages 1 to 4) learn English words. Over 500 words, images and English-speaking videos are featured in interactive "Word Shows". The site uses web 2.0 technologies, such as flash video, to deliver the learning experience via the web browser with no additional software required.

Perth, WA (PRWEB) October 15, 2007

Webmosis Pty Ltd today officially announced the release of 'Kindersay', a free web 2.0 browser-based learning system that uses over 500 videos and images to teach children ages 1 to 4 new words, colors, shapes, ABCs and numbers.

"Kindersay is designed to assist preschool children to learn and pronounce common English words" said Guy Rischmueller, Founder of Webmosis. "It is also a fun way for parents and caregivers to introduce their children to the internet and computers".

In the first 48 hours after the site was made live, over 6,000 people had discovered the website and feedback from blogs and users alike was overwhelming. More core features will be released between now and the end of year, covering other areas of the preschool entertainment market, with a goal of making the website the number 1 destination for preschool learning. Kindersay has a Premium upgrade feature where parents can store Family images and their favorite words.

Guy and wife Sharon Rischmueller have spent most of their lives dedicated to teaching (junior school, special education and tertiary level) before deciding to build a website for preschool education. Guy has a Master of Education while Sharon has a Bachelor of Teaching (Special Education).

Metropolitan Council Selects e-Builder Project Management Software to Improve Capital Project Delivery

Metropolitan Council Selects e-Builder Project Management Software to Improve Capital Project Delivery

Metropolitan Council, a regional government agency for the seven-county Twin Cities area, has selected e-Builder Enterprise as its construction management software to enable a structured, transparent, and methodical approach to execute various processes and cost controls for its $957 million Central Corridor Light Rail Transit (CCLRT) project.

Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) August 31, 2010

e-Builder, the leading provider of integrated capital program and project management software (http://www. e-builder. net/capital-project-management-software. html), announced today that Metropolitan Council, a regional government agency for the seven-county Twin Cities area, has selected e-Builder Enterprise (http://www. e-builder. net/products/enterprise. html) as its construction management software to enable a structured, transparent, and methodical approach to execute various processes and cost controls for its $957 million Central Corridor Light Rail Transit (CCLRT) project. The Met Council team in the Central Corridor Project Office (CCPO) is leveraging e-Builder’s integrated Processes (workflow), Cost, Documents, Dashboards and Reports Modules.

E-Builder is helping the CCPO streamline the way it manages construction management processes to enable efficiency improvements, visibility across key performance indicators, and increased accountability. Some of the processes being implemented include: Change Order Requests, Design Queries, Inspection Requests, Inspector’s Observations, tracking Issues, Meeting Minutes, Payment Applications, Requests for Information, Non Conformance Reports, and Submittals.

On previous projects, the CCPO team relied on e-mail, spreadsheets, and Access databases to organize and exchange project information. This made it difficult to standardize work processes and take advantage of industry best practices. “There tended to be an evolution of processes as we went through different projects. A single system allows for standardization of these processes,” says Metropolitan Council’s Luke Van Santen. Previously, much of the work processes were handled via e-mail. There was the risk that action items would go unanswered for days.

In addition to streamlining processes, e-Builder will provide for a centralized repository of documents and project information for construction staff located in field offices along the corridor. Data was previously organized across multiple databases, each with differing folder structures and templates. e-Builder provides one repository of information that can be accessed from any location with Internet access, and simplifies how project staff access accurate, up-to-date project information via dashboards and responds to questions and issues in a timely manner. Centralized access is also enabling the team to have transparency and visibility into actions items requiring a response.

E-Builder is also providing reporting capabilities to quickly identify potential performance issues for the Project Management Team through configurable reports, ensuring that corrective actions are taken to keep projects on track.

“At a time when public construction projects are under scrutiny by all stakeholders, The Metropolitan Council is demonstrating true leadership and vision by proactively implementing a system that establishes control and accountability regarding all aspects of its CCLRT Project,” Said Jonathan N. Antevy, e-Builder CEO. “We are proud to support the Metropolitan Council by providing the construction management platform to accomplish their goals.”

About Metropolitan Council
Metropolitan Council is the regional government agency that serves the Twin Cities seven county - metropolitan area and provides essential services to the region. Single Sign-On - SCB Solutions brings relief to those lost in the password maze - SCB Solutions Announces New Version of SCB Access™ Available Online

Single Sign-On - SCB Solutions brings relief to those lost in the password maze - SCB Solutions Announces New Version of SCB Access™ Available Online

SCB Solutions brings relief to those lost in the password maze.

Arlington, VA (PRWEB) February 8, 2005

After the successful launch of SCB Access™ Enterprise Edition which broke new ground by allowing midsize companies to get access to Single Sign-On technology and smart card security, SCB Solutions is launching SCB Access™ Professional Edition. This new product will give to smaller organizations the same level of convenience and security.

SCB Access™ is an affordable solution for Secure Logon and Single Sign-On applications. A user can now access a PC or an application by inserting a smart card and a PIN code. With SCB Access™, usernames and passwords can be securely encrypted and stored on a smart card or key token. Usernames and passwords are then submitted automatically to the appropriate applications. Users need to remember only one password to unlock their smart card or token. All the others can be forgotten; no more need for unsafe stickies to remember their passwords.

SCB Access™ Professional Edition consists of three modules:

SCB Access™ Administration - to manage user profiles and smart card parameters SCB Secure Logon™ - to control access to the PC SCB Single Sign-On™ - to control access to PC and web applications

SCB Access™ Professional Edition does not rely on central administration, such as a complex LDAP directory server. SCB Access allows small organizations that don’t have the skills or the means to deploy a full PKI architecture to have access to smart card and Single Sign-On technology. However, SCB Access™ has been designed using well defined technology standards including PC/SC (the Microsoft-led workgroup that set the standard for integrating smart cards and smart card readers into PCs) and PKCS (the Public-Key Cryptography Standards are specifications produced by RSA Laboratories) allowing an easy migration toward a full PKI system if customers choose to do so eventually.

SCB Access™ is extremely user friendly. The heavy administration tools usually associated with Single Sign-On technologies have been replaced by a user-friendly wizard that allows the additions of new applications or passwords in just a few clicks.

“Professionals and small business owners more than anybody else need the security and the convenience of a smart card. On a regular basis they access dozens of websites to manage their businesses. Today they have no real means to manage all the associated passwords safely and efficiently. SCB Access™ Professional Edition will do just that,” says Ronan Lapie, President of SCB Solutions.

SCB Access™ Professional Edition may now be purchased online at SCB Solutions' web store at http://www. scbsolutions. com/express/ (http://www. scbsolutions. com/express/).

Authentium Ramps Up Response To Mass-Mailer Viruses

Authentium Ramps Up Response To Mass-Mailer Viruses

Security company ramps up response as mass-mailer virus outbreaks increase in frequency; new improved virus update service improves response time by up to 75%; Netsky. ai definition files produced by Authentium within thirty minutes of detection by threat monitoring service Message Labs.

West Palm Beach, FL (PRWEB) October 23, 2004

Authentium, one of the leading antivirus software developers in the United States, announced today the launch of an automated, highly-efficient threat response service that significantly reduces the time needed to create virus definition files.

Mr. Robert Sandilands, head of Antivirus Research and Development at Authentium, said the company had made a significant investment in the technology needed to manage the threat definition process, and had done so in response to the rapidly increasing number of attacks, particularly in mass-mailer viruses such as MyMail and Netsky.

“In the past, we would see perhaps a handful of sophisticated viruses appear in a month.” Mr. Sandilands stated. “Now, we see the same number of sophisticated threats appearing on a daily basis. This increase in frequency requires a system calibrated for swift analysis and fast distribution. Our new ADFS system vastly reduces manual processes and allows us to respond more intelligently, and faster than ever before.”

Like its earlier counterparts, such as MyDoom and MyMail, Netsky and its many variants can only replicate itself with the userÂ’s help. To become infected with Netsky. ai, email users must first click on attachments, or download infected files from file-sharing services.

“The integration of computer viruses and bots by spammers and other criminal elements is creating an increasingly costly situation for network operators” added John Sharp, Chairman and CEO of Authentium. “In a world in which spamming is now becoming regulated, what better way of avoiding penalties than to have consumers do the spamming for you? I worry that the current epidemic of mass-mailers that we’re seeing may only be the beginning. They are going to get smaller, smarter, and much more stealthy in their operation. The correct response from our industry is to get smarter, and faster, and use ever-better heuristics so our customers stay protected.”

Mr. Sharp was cautiously optimistic with respect to the potential of Netsky. ai to infect. “Right now, it appears not to have infected very many computers – yet. So long as network operators diligently apply the patches we, and others in the industry are sending out, and we stay ahead of the game in terms of response time, Netsky. ai should not become a significant problem.”

AuthentiumÂ’s Command Antivirus and Authentium ESP products provide both real-time scanning and on-demand protection against Netsky and its variants, such as Netsky. ai. AuthentiumÂ’s free online virus scanning service, featuring guaranteed latest updates, can be found at www. commandondemand. com.

Kerio brings robust features, McAfee Anti-Virus to the Mac OS X mail server game

Kerio brings robust features, McAfee Anti-Virus to the Mac OS X mail server game

Kerio introduced its secure corporate messaging server Kerio MailServer 5.5 for Mac OS X at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco.

(PRWEB) January 16, 2003

San Francisco, California – Kerio Technologies Inc., a software developer of security solutions for small and mid-sized businesses, introduced its secure corporate messaging server Kerio MailServer 5.5 for Mac OS X at the Macworld expo in San Francisco. It is the first and only mail server for Macintosh that integrates the award winning McAfee Anti-Virus engine.

Kerio MailServer provides businesses with virtually all possible means of encrypted access to the mailbox – POP3, IMAP, WebMail, and even WAP for compatible mobile phones. It features unique internal antivirus protection, allowing a third-party virus scanning engine to act as an integral part of the mail server. This ensures that not only SMTP traffic, but any mail activity is checked for viruses prior to delivery. Its powerful spam filter implements techniques used in high-end anti-spam systems, such as limiting the traffic that a hostile bulk mail application can potentially create to either send mail or endanger mail server stability.

"The corporate mail server game for Mac OS X has been quiet of late, with just a few players," says Dusan Vitek, Director of Marketing for Kerio Technologies. "AppleÂ’s customer base includes many types of small businesses, independent departments of large companies, and education and government institutions. Our past success with these types of customers, along with AppleÂ’s recent increased focus on server solutions, the long-heralded security of the Mac OS, and Kerio MailServerÂ’s combination of functionality and ease of use, made our decision to support Mac OS X a no-brainer."

Unlike competitors, Kerio MailServer comes with the most mature set of security features that corporate customers seek – secure access, enterprise-strength antivirus, and advanced spam blocking. Our support for Active Directory will allow this solution to thrive in the cross-platform computing environments, while the integrated McAfee Anti-Virus option provides protection exceeding that of most gateway scanning solutions.

Kerio MailServer for Mac OS X is available in two flavors, one with integrated McAfee Anti-virus, the other without.

Pricing and Availability

Kerio MailServer 5.5 for Mac OS X is now available through Kerio's Authorized Resellers and the Kerio eShop at www. kerio. com. Kerio MailServer 5.5 is US$395 for the standard version and US$679 for the version with integrated McAfee antivirus. For more detailed information about new features or to download the trial version, please visit: www. kerio. com/kms (http://www. kerio. com/kms).

Genius in the Making - Two New DVD Releases Inspire Learning and Discovery

Genius in the Making - Two New DVD Releases Inspire Learning and Discovery

"Brainy Baby® Peek-A-Boo" and "Brainy Baby® Laugh & Learn" Delivers Direct-to-DVD and VHS August 24, 2004 from The Brainy Company LLC

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) August 9, 2004

Baby's mind is primed for developing, and two new titles in the award-winning Brainy Baby DVD series inspire baby's learning through a fun, colorful, interactive experience. "Brainy Baby Peek-A-Boo" and "Brainy Baby Laugh & Learn," available direct-to-DVD and VHS from The Brainy Baby Company LLC, present eye-catching visuals of real babies and familiar objects in an age appropriate format that engages young viewers to further explore their developing world.

"It's been proven by child development experts again and again that children's minds are sponges that can absorb all sorts of wonderful information if you present it to them in a way they can understand and enjoy," says Dennis Fedoruk, president, The Brainy Baby Company LLC, based in Atlanta, Georgia. "Our new programs offer children the chance to further develop their minds in an enjoyable and interactive manner."

Recommended for ages six months to thirty-six months, "Peek-A-Boo" and "Laugh & Learn," will be available August 24, 2004 for a suggested retail price of $15.95 for the VHS and $19.95 for the DVD, which is loaded with bonus features like:

· Scene selections

· Baby Bloopers

· An interactive storybook

· Behind-the-Scenes making of the video

·  Fun learning activities like downloadable coloring sheets and sing-along songs with on-screen lyrics

· Automatic and repeat play

A multicultural cast of children, familiar toys and objects (like mobiles), a pleasing soundtrack of classic music and familiar tunes, and slow-moving visuals (perfect for young eyes and attention spans) combine to present a charming and effective educational tool.

"Brainy Baby" can be part of your child's learning library, as well as other videos, books, toys, and educational products," says Fedoruk. "Watching Brainy Baby videos is not a passive activity—rather the program stimulates a child to interact with the action on the screen and encourages parent-child bonding through the fun activities."

"Peek-A-Boo” reintroduces the long-time favorite first game in a variety of amusing visuals that will capture children's attention again and again. The colorful toys, mobiles, and dancing marionettes will enchant infants who are just beginning to distinguish colors and shapes. Toddler viewers will be delighted by matching, size-comparison and lets-find-it games. Throughout the program are parents and grandparents singing favorites like "Wheels on the Bus" and "You Are My Sunshine" with their own little ones.

"Laugh & Learn" moves ahead to teach not only colors, numbers and letters, but also shapes, sizes and proportions. Real children and wonderful toys help to differentiate opposites such as near and far, over and under, fast and slow. A breathtaking view of fish, dolphins and undersea life is sure to enchant. Matching and guessing games invite interaction, and viewers wonÂ’t be able to resist embracing their natural playfulness and silliness as they watch the kids on the screen giving in to theirs. Song favorites like "The Alphabet Song" and "Bingo" are also shared with adults and their children.

Each new Brainy Baby DVD and VHS includes a guide to help parents complete their Brainy Baby libraries in sync with their children's development.

Peek-A-Boo and Laugh & Learn join the expanding collection of Brainy Baby Learning Library DVDs including “Right Brain,” “Left Brain,” “ABCs,” “123s,” “Shapes & Colors,” “Animals,” “Art,” and “Music.” Future Brainy Baby subjects include Sign Language, Math, Phonics, Pre-Reading. Brainy Baby also produces musical CDs, books, toys, and electronic games through licensing agreements with Vtech, Bendon Publishing and Imagination Entertainment.

This fall, the entire Brainy Baby DVD catalog will be released in Spanish for distribution in the U. S. and Mexico. For more information about Brainy Baby or to purchase products, visit www. brainybaby. com or call toll free 1-877-455BABY (1-877-455-2229).

Brainy Baby became the first company to pioneer infant educational videos with the 1996 development and release of the dual titles, Brainy Baby Left Brain and Brainy Baby Right Brain. These 2 videos, which together inspire whole brain thinking, were a breakthrough in the baby video industry. The company now has 30 SKUs, which include 13 different video/DVD titles, as well as 6 Brainy Baby Music CDs, and a long list of Brainy Baby licensed books, toys and games. The company plans several new video releases in 2005.

The Brainy Baby Company was built to provide a solid, quality, educational base of educational products specifically for infant, toddler and pre-school children ages 6 months to 5 years, as well as providing a solid brand to extend throughout major markets. Each Brainy Baby video is 45 minutes long and designed for the parent a child to watch together. Carefully crafted with a creative mix of reality-based visuals, real children and colorful graphics, combined with both classical music and fun, kid-friendly songs, the programs are creatively paced for your viewers to capture the child’s attention, and then allow for “teachable moments” to occur.

Brainy Baby videos and DVDs have received rave reviews and over 20 awards from such prestigious organizations as Dr. Toy, Parent’s Choice, The National Parenting Publications of America, KIDS FIRST!, The Dove Foundation, and more. Parenting Magazine included Brainy Baby on their “Best Kid Vid of the Year” picks in 2003.

Warren King/Epson Scholarship Recipient Named by Brooks Institute: Minnesota Student Says Award Will Help Her Pursue Her ‘Crazy Dreams’

Warren King/Epson Scholarship Recipient Named by Brooks Institute: Minnesota Student Says Award Will Help Her Pursue Her ‘Crazy Dreams’

Danielle Schalesky from Lakeville, Minnesota, was selected to received the Warren King/Epson Scholarship to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Professional Photography at Brooks Institute.

SANTA BARBARA, CA (PRWEB) October 21, 2006

Brooks Institute of Photography announced today that high school senior Danielle Schalesky, from Lakeville, Minnesota, was selected to receive the 2006 Warren King Foundation/Epson Scholarship. According to Warren King, chairman of the Foundation board, Schalesky’s application and portfolio -- both of which were required for the scholarship review and determination -- unquestionably illustrate her commitment to pursuing a future in professional photography.

The scholarship was conceived by Warren King and inaugurated with Brooks in 2002 to nurture the study of photographic arts in California high schools. Later, the program was expanded to encompass high schools throughout the United States, including Lakeville North High School in Minnesota, the alma mater of 2006 scholarship recipient Danielle Schalesky.

Doug Brooks, president of the Brooks Alumni Association Board of Directors, extended his congratulations to Schalesky, noting, “This scholarship is not given lightly. Warren King is an outstanding educator, and his instruction and guidance have inspired generations of talented individuals throughout the world to the highest levels of achievement in photography. We at Brooks Institute, Epson – a company that has demonstrated true dedication to photographers and photography – and Warren King are all excited to recognize talent such as Danielle’s and to help nurture it through educational support.”

Schalesky is already enrolled in her Bachelor’s degree program at Brooks Institute, majoring in Professional Photography. She misses home (even acknowledging that she will miss snow a little bit), but is thrilled to be in Santa Barbara. So far, it is all working for her—faculty, facilities and fellow students and her academic programs.

“Photography is my passion. I want to send meaningful messages with my images…make people in the fast-paced world stop dead in their tracks and see something that changes their outlook on life, the world, and the people in it,” explains Schalesky, adding “Brooks has the best photography program. Why would you pass that up? If you’re serious about photography and wouldn’t mind looking out your classroom window to see the beautiful California coast…Brooks is the perfect fit.”

Schalesky’s interest in photography and the arts is not new; she has long been inspired by artists who give the perspectives and insights through images. “My art teachers in high school were always a huge part of my life,” she says, “in part, because they were all amazing artists, themselves. Laurie Johnson and Pam Teorey were my photography teachers, who taught me throughout the years and always inspired me. And my family and friends have never once held me back from going for my sometimes crazy dreams!”

Crazy? Not according to Warren King, a man who has instructed and motivated more than 16,000 students. “Dreams are never crazy and they are never unattainable for people like Danielle,” says King. “With the confidence to excel, the commitment to persevere, the generous spirit to work cooperatively with friends or even rivals, and the energy and curiosity to create truly fresh, original work, she can and will achieve whatever she wants. I am simply gratified that this scholarship, the good people at Epson and Brooks Institute can be part of that future.”

AUTHOR FATIMA ALEXANDER, ADDRESSES THE NATIONÂ’S LATEST EPIDEMIC IN HER NOVEL THROUGH THE STORM

AUTHOR FATIMA ALEXANDER, ADDRESSES THE NATIONÂ’S LATEST EPIDEMIC IN HER NOVEL THROUGH THE STORM

Author, Fatima Alexander's writes novel that provides much needed information and examples to society about domestic violence, rape and incestuous behavior.

(PRWEB) January 22, 2003

January 23, 2003, Alexandria, Virginia --- Close your eyes and imagine yourself in a home where you were afraid to even breathe, talk or do things that we take for granted like sleep or eat. Imagine living every moment in fear and on the edge afraid to even move the wrong way for fear of being beat. Imagine your small innocent children not being able to live the lives of other children laughing and playing, because they are seeing their Daddy beat their Mommy and in worse cases being abused themselves. Take the time to think about your life if it were like that. Now think about what you can do to stop it.

Domestic violence is taking the nation by storm like many of the worldÂ’s life threatening illnesses. While there are many books out there that take clinical approaches to domestic abuse, there are no books that tell the victimÂ’s story. Fatima AlexanderÂ’s novel Through the Storm, portrays the very nature of domestic violence by exploring the emotions, thoughts, and points-of-view for all parties involved by way of story.

Being freed from an abusive relationship, Ms. Alexander felt a strong need to educate all women, both young and old about abuse in a way where they can be entertained, educated and informed simultaneously. Uniquely and by way of story, Fatima utilized fictional and real accounts in her novel, and wrote it so that a person with the least amount of education can understand.

Through the Storm takes place during a time when the United States was in a period of transition. Racial hatred and segregation were still and important issues among most towns and cities. African Americans of that time were caught in the middle of a fight for independence and social freedoms, and the strength of social, spiritual and domestic relationships was very important to maintain the stability of the black community.

Through Ms. Alexander's 'in-your-face' approach, she reminds us that there were many separate issues affecting the lives of African Americans only to make their struggles more difficult. She also depicts the fact that domestic violence is a serious issue that has been around for some time.

But despite its very private nature, domestic violence has a way of affecting several individuals and their lives for generations.

This powerful novel, provides much needed information and examples to our society about domestic violence, rape, incestuous behavior, and stands as proof that these issues were as strong before as they are today.

Fatima Alexander, born and raised in Jamaica, New York, began writing to express to society the power of educating people about realistic, everyday issues by way of story. Writing for over ten years, Fatima focuses on enthralling issues that are meant to capture your hearts, tears and spirits, while opening ones eyes to some of societies most dreadful epidemics. Fatima made her debut with the play Power Pistol, which was locally televised in the Washington, DC area. She is the proud mother of two, and currently resides in Alexandria, Virginia.

Foot-Friendly Tips to Prevent Common Running Injuries

Foot-Friendly Tips to Prevent Common Running Injuries

Keep Moving with Products Bearing the APMA’s Seal of Acceptance

Bethesda, MD (Vocus) September 29, 2010

Making running part of a workout routine leads to better physical stamina and a more positive state of mind—but a detrimental foot injury can quickly stop runners in their tracks. Keeping feet healthy and pain-free can go a long way toward ensuring that every run is enjoyable, for both experienced runners and those just starting out. Following a few simple steps provided by the American Podiatric Medical Association (http://www. apma. org/) (APMA), before hitting the trail or treadmill, can keep foot and ankle injuries at bay.

“Some of the most common running-related foot injuries that today’s podiatrists treat are arch pain, tendonitis, and blisters,” said APMA president Kathleen Stone, DPM (http://www. apma. org/kathleenstone). “However, if runners can take just a few minutes to stretch properly pre-workout, select appropriate footwear, and see a podiatrist immediately when foot pain occurs, many of these ailments can be avoided entirely.”

In order to get the most out of each run without falling victim to injury, APMA recommends the following:
Select a good running shoe: According to Karen Langone, DPM, president of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine (http://www. aapsm. org/) (AAPSM), the most important running tip is proper shoe selection. “A running shoe purchase is dependent upon the type of foot and function of the foot for the individual. Runners should research shoe construction and keep in mind that footwear can vary in size from one manufacturer to the other,” she said.

APMA has recently given several running shoes (http://www. apma. org/runningproductsresource) its Seal of Acceptance for allowing proper foot function, including models made by Puma, Mizuno, Asics, Reebok, Avia and Ryka. A sports medicine podiatrist can help aid in the footwear selection process if needed.

Select good socks: Runners should always fit shoes with the socks that they plan on wearing during a run. Socks should be made of a poly-cotton blend that pulls moisture from the skin, fit well and be comfortable when worn with a running shoe.

Stretch out and build momentum: Before a run, begin by warming up and gently stretching for 5-10 minutes, focusing on lower leg muscles. Amateur runners should start with short distances, increasing distance over time to help prevent injury. All runners should begin every workout slowly, as this allows the body to warm up further and decreases the chance of muscle strain. Runners should focus on keeping both the feet and entire body relaxed, avoid tensing or cramping toes, and run with a gait that feels the most natural. Runners should stop running immediately if any pain is experienced.  Cool down and rest: After reaching the end of a running workout, cool down and stretch for about 10 minutes. Submerging the lower extremities in an ice bath after longer runs can reduce muscle soreness, as can the use of a self-massager designed for post-athletic activities (Track Shack’s Therapeutic Hot & Cold Foot Massager has the APMA’s Seal of Acceptance).

Muscle pain is common after exercise, and minor injuries may be treated with the RICE regimen (rest, ice, compression, elevation). However, if pain does not resolve itself after several days—or returns immediately upon resuming exercise—runners should seek out care from an APMA member podiatrist immediately.

Frequent runners should see a podiatrist on a regular basis to maximize any running program and prevent serious injury. For more running information, visit APMA’s new Runner’s Resource page at www. apma. org/runners (http://www. apma. org/runners).

Founded in 1912, the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) is the nation's leading and recognized professional organization for doctors of podiatric medicine (DPMs). DPMs are podiatric physicians and surgeons, also known as podiatrists, qualified by their education, training and experience to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the foot, ankle and structures of the leg. The medical education and training of a DPM includes four years of undergraduate education, four years of graduate education at an accredited podiatric medical college and two or three years of hospital residency training. APMA has 53 state component locations across the United States and its territories, with a membership of close to 12,000 podiatrists. All practicing APMA members are licensed by the state in which they practice podiatric medicine. For more information, visit www. apma. org.

Learning From OthersÂ’ Mistakes

Learning From OthersÂ’ Mistakes

“Guarding Your Wealth” is a nationally syndicated weekly personal finance column written by Jeffrey D. Voudrie, CFP. Mr. Voudrie is the President of Legacy Planning Group, a private wealth management firm that employs sophisticated proprietary strategies designed to protect and grow its clients' investments. (PRWEB) August 11, 2005

When it comes to investing your money, it costs a lot less to learn from mistakes others have made than repeating the same mistakes yourself. This week, I will share one readerÂ’s horror story and their mistakes so you can avoid these costly pitfalls.

This is a true story. Just a few days ago, I received a call from “Mrs. Smith” from Texas. Her husband invested virtually all of their retirement nest egg into a variable annuity on the advice of an advisor he had just met. That was in early 2000.

Today, the $800,000 he invested is only worth $100,000. The nest egg that they planned on using to comfortably retire has vanished. It’s gone. And at 60 years of age, they have little chance of rebuilding it. Their lives are changed forever—all because they made some basic mistakes.

The first step in protecting yourself from a similar fate is to recognize that it can happen to you. Their story is not unique. ItÂ’s easy to think that we are smarter, that thereÂ’s no way we would make a similar mistake, but thatÂ’s not true.

These are very intelligent people -- people who have advanced educational degrees and high-paying jobs. Just because you are an expert in one field doesnÂ’t mean you canÂ’t be taken advantage of in the financial services industry.

In fact, brokers and advisors are trained on what to say and even what body language to use to gain your confidence. It’s called ‘mirroring’. We are more apt to invest with someone who is like us, so some advisors mirror your personality, actions and attitudes to dramatically increase their sales. You think I’m kidding? If so, reread this first step because it applies to you!

The second step in reducing your chances of making a bad investment is to take your time. If an advisor says “you have to act now or you will miss” an opportunity, then miss it! If you are serious about investing the money it’s taken you a lifetime to accumulate, do your homework first. Mr. Smith made his fateful decision to invest only 30 minutes after meeting the advisor!

The next big mistake that Mr. Smith made was that he put 100% of his money into a single investment. Never, ever, put 100% of your money in any investment—even if it is directly guaranteed by the government. Even grandma knows that, yet people do it every day. If an advisor recommends you invest 100% of your money into any single investment, run out the door and never look back.

I received another email this week from someone in Ohio. An ‘Estate Planner’ had just recommended that her mother invest $1,200,000 into an Equity-Indexed Annuity. That’s a great investment…for the agent who would make over $100,000 on the deal! Her 70 year old mother was a recent widow, being asked to invest every penny into a 10-15 year investment. This is insanity, yet it is perfectly legal!

Most retirees want an advisor who recommends good investments, closely monitors those investments and takes action when necessary to harvest profits or to stem losses. Instead, most people end up working with a salesperson looking for a commission.

Lastly, Mr. Smith failed to take action while the value of his investment dropped 87.5%. If the value of your account drops by more then 10%, act! DonÂ’t believe anything an advisor who has lost that much of your money has to say.

Unfortunately, Mr. Smith has little recourse. The paperwork he signed essentially released the firm and the advisor from responsibility. By the way, Mr. Smith signed paperwork that wasnÂ’t even filled out! Of course he didnÂ’t read it, either. Never sign something that you havenÂ’t taken home, read and then re-read again. Never sign something that is not completely filled out.

Countless people have lost fortunes by following the advice of people who seemed so friendly and trustworthy. DonÂ’t be one of them. IÂ’m ashamed of the practices used by many of my colleagues in the financial services industry. ItÂ’s time the industry changed, removed all the conflicts of interest and began serving its clients. Until then, be on your guard!

TASC to FTC: Debt Settlement Better Service for Many Consumers

TASC to FTC: Debt Settlement Better Service for Many Consumers

Credit counseling can fall short on debt relief

Madison, WI (PRWEB) November 13, 2009

The Association of Settlement Companies (TASC) continued its education campaign last week when it explained to the Federal Trade Commission in a meeting that consumers seeking to manage their debt can have higher success rates when using credible debt settlement companies rather than credit counseling services.

Credit counseling and bankruptcy would essentially be the only remaining options for consumers struggling with unsecured debt if the FTC passes its proposed amendments to the Telemarketing Sales Rule. Included is a ban of advance fees that TASC believes could effectively eliminate the industry because it would require debt settlement companies to work for free for the better part of the settlement process, which typically takes three years.

“One main difference between the services is that debt settlement companies work solely on behalf of consumers to reduce the outstanding balance of debt that must be repaid,” Dave Leuthold, Executive Director of TASC, said. “In contrast, credit counseling companies in essence work as a collector and agent for the credit card companies. As such, they not only receive fees from the consumer but they also receive compensation from the banks, so they may not have the client’s best interest at heart.”

Other differences between the two services:
Debt settlement programs are typically 36 months or fewer. Credit counseling programs are usually 60 months. For consumers that complete programs, the total cost of a debt settlement program is usually far less than the cost of a debt management program offered by a credit counseling company. Debt settlement programs are customized depending on a consumer’s circumstances and needs. Credit counseling payment plans are dictated by the creditors and the resulting monthly payment demanded by the program often is higher than the consumer can afford.

TASC, which gathered the information from various sources—including the Executive Office for the U. S. Trustees and testimony by credit counseling companies—supports responsible regulation and believes that, especially in this tough economic climate, consumers should have more financial options at their disposal, not fewer.

Debt settlement clients should expect to see higher success rates and fewer dropout rates through shorter program durations, customized programs and lower budgeted monthly payments, Leuthold added.

“It should be noted that since credit counseling does not seek reductions in the principal amount owed while only getting some reduction in the fees and interest, a consumer using credit counseling can make payments for some time and never get ahead,” Leuthold said. “In other words, credit counseling often does no better than a consumer simply making minimum payments, which often cannot be afforded anyways. In cases in which a consumer cancels within the first year, the consumer can be far worse off than when they entered the credit counseling program.”

About The Association of Settlement Companies
The Association of Settlement Companies (TASC) promotes fair business practices, consumer protection and industry standards for the debt settlement industry. TASC, founded in 2005, serves to protect consumers through an organization seal that represents best practices and standards of reputable companies. The organization also protects its member companies through lobbying efforts at the state and national levels, as well as awareness initiatives to educate consumers on debt settlement as a financial solution. All TASC member companies pledge compliance to strict association bylaws governing business practices and ethics. For more information, visit www. tascsite. org.

The Miami-based International Health and Care Services Provider Pledges to Offset Employees' Carbon Footprint for the Month of April in Honor of Earth Day

Sesame Workshop Launches Phase Two of Military Families Outreach Project: Talk, Listen, Connect: Deployments, Homecomings, Changes -- Elmo and Friends Help Military Families and Young Children Cope With Challenges of Multiple Deployments and Combat Related Injuries

Sesame Workshop Launches Phase Two of Military Families Outreach Project: Talk, Listen, Connect: Deployments, Homecomings, Changes -- Elmo and Friends Help Military Families and Young Children Cope With Challenges of Multiple Deployments and Combat Related Injuries

Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind Sesame Street, today launched Talk, Listen, Connect: Deployments, Homecomings, Changes, the second phase of the Workshop's military outreach program launched initially in 2006. The initiative provides support and offers significant resources for military families with young children experiencing the effects of deployments, multiple deployments or when a parent returns home changed due to a combat related injury. The announcement was made today by Gary E. Knell, President and CEO of Sesame Workshop, Loree K. Sutton, Colonel (Promotable), MC, USA, Director, Defense Center of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury and the Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Health Affairs) for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury, Stephen J. Cozza, M. D., Colonel, U. S. Army (Ret.) Professor of Psychiatry, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and Sesame Street's Elmo and Rosita at the Women In Military Service For America Memorial.

ARLINGTON, Va. (PRWEB) April 29, 2008

With major support provided by the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, Military OneSource, the Wal-Mart Foundation, and American Greetings Corporation and additional support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), the New York State Office of Mental Health (NYSOMH), the USO (United Service Organizations), the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) and Joseph Drown Foundation, Sesame Workshop has developed Talk, Listen, Connect: Deployments, Homecomings, Changes to help military families with young children between the ages of two and five build a sense of stability and resiliency during times of separation and change.

According to statistics, as many as 700,000 children under the age of five have a parent in the military. Due to the success of the first phase, Talk, Listen, Connect: Helping Families During Military Deployment, as well as the overwhelming support the first kit generated from the military community, the need was clear to launch this second phase.

Talk, Listen, Connect: Deployments, Homecomings, Changes seeks to:

-- Reduce the level of anxiety children may experience during homecomings after multiple deployments

-- Help parents with ways to cope with multiple deployments

-- Help young children gain an age-appropriate understanding of a parent's injury by including them and the entire family in the rehabilitation process

-- Reassure children that they are loved and secure and that together with their families, they can learn new ways of being there for one another and having hope for the future

"The incredible response and impact Sesame Workshop saw from our initial work with military families and the impact it made, inspired this next phase of Talk, Listen, Connect," said Gary E. Knell, President and CEO, Sesame Workshop. "With an increasing number of military parents experiencing multiple deployments and a parent coming home injured, more than ever, these families need help navigating the ups-and-downs of these experiences with their children as well as ways to support one another and find resiliency in the face of change. We hope with the help of their friends from Sesame Street they will continue to discover ways they can continue to forge family bonds despite the situations they may encounter."

According to the Director of the Defense Center of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury U. S., Army Colonel Loree K. Sutton, "This wonderful project by Sesame Workshop demonstrates its long-standing efforts to provide positive development in our children. The Talk, Listen, Connect series is a solid, practical and entertaining learning tool for our military families and will contribute greatly toward psychological health for our troops and their families. What a privilege to work in collaboration with these educational projects that serve those who are serving us."

"Through their generous work in creating Talk, Listen, Connect, Sesame Workshop helps our many young military children affected by deployment and the changes that can occur in their parents as a result of combat exposure. Talk, Listen, Connect provides an opportunity for children to cope with these challenges in positive and reassuring ways," stated Stephen J. Cozza, M. D., Colonel, U. S. Army (Ret.). "These much needed materials offer wonderful strategies that can help military families with young children and foster meaningful connections between family members, friends, and communities in their everyday lives."

The resources will consist of a bilingual (English/Spanish) multimedia outreach kit with DVDs for children and adults starring the Muppets from Sesame Street, print materials for children, parents and caregivers and facilitators and American Greeting postcards featuring the beloved Sesame Street characters for parents and children to stay connected. Sesame Workshop will produce and distribute 500,000 kits at no cost to individual families, schools, child care programs, family support programs, hospitals and rehabilitation centers and other organizations serving the needs of military families with the help of Military OneSource, the New York State Office of Mental Health (NYSOMH), the USO (United Service Organizations), the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) and other partners. Special emphasis will be made to reach families of the Reserves and National Guard. The kit materials will also be available online at www. sesameworkshop. org/tlc (http://www. sesameworkshop. org/tlc), where streaming video is being provided by the Department of Defense Military Community and Family Policy Program Support Group, so families everywhere can view the videos and download the information.

In continuing efforts to keep families connected, Sesame Workshop will unveil the enhanced Talk, Listen, Connect Web experience in Fall 2008. Supporting the outreach materials, the enhanced Web site will feature fun and interactive activities for families to share together and stay connected.

The project's advisory board, which consists of leading experts in child development, mental health and programs supporting military families, has informed and guided Sesame Workshop on all aspects of the project. They have helped determine the needs and challenges of young children in military families and guide the development of age-appropriate and effective content for the program.

Finally, Sesame Workshop will assess the program's effectiveness with spouses of military personnel who have been injured or experienced multiple deployments, and have a young child. Sesame Workshop routinely conducts these assessments in order to focus future outreach programs more effectively.
