New Dog Treats and Cat Treats Made with Organic Wheatgrass

A new generation of health conscious consumers belly up to the juice bars for their daily shots of nutrient-rich wheatgrass. Now many realize the importance of green nutrition and healthy choices for their pets too. To meet the needs of this fast growing market, Bell Rock Growers offers healthy dog treats and cat treats in four tasty recipes, all made with organic wheatgrass. Pet Greens Treats, Powered with Green Nutrition, debuts this week at Global Pet Expo in San Diego.

Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) February 13, 2008

Bell Rock Growers (http://www. bellrockgrowers. com), the pioneer grower and supplier of green nutrition pet products, adds new recipes to its popular line of healthy dog treats (http://www. bellrockgrowers. com/freesample. html) and healthy cat treats (http://www. bellrockgrowers. com/freesample. html) made with certified organic wheatgrass. Formerly called Grass Goodies®, the newly branded and expanded Pet Greens® Treats will be showcased this week with exclusive show specials for retailers and distributors at H. H. Backer's 20th Annual Pet Industry Show & Educational Conference (http://www. hhbacker. com/hhbacker/s08tradeshow. asp) in Baltimore (Booth #408).

Pet Greens Treats come in four tasty recipes: Roasted Chicken or Deep Sea Tuna semi-moist treats for cats; Roasted Chicken or Savory Beef jerky-style treats for dogs. All four varieties of Pet Greens Treats are made with wholesome ingredients, including certified organic wheatgrass (http://www. bellrockgrowers. com/whygreen. html). Recipes contain no wheat gluten, no corn, and no artificial colors or flavors.

According to Bell Rock Growers Co-founder Catherine Hoffmann, the company's passion for Pet Greens began with her personal quest for greater well being. "After experiencing the healing qualities of wheatgrass in my own life, I learned green nutrients also improve our pets' health," says Hoffmann. "We developed Pet Greens to provide quality pet nutrition similar to green food supplements people include in their own diets."

Wheatgrass is packed with high concentrations of chlorophyll, active enzymes, carotene, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients known to promote healthy gums and digestion, detoxification and development of healthy blood and muscle tissue. Wheatgrass also satisfies pets' instinctual cravings for greens, providing a safe alternative to harmful household plants and chemically treated outside grasses.

Bell Rock Growers Co-Founder Marty Walls partnered with Hoffmann in 1996 to launch the pet product industry's first nationally distributed live wheatgrass, called Pet Grass®, and catnip with major retailers and independent stores. The innovative duo created another industry first when they incorporated green nutrition into Pet Greens Treats, providing pets with healthy, convenient treats for training and rewards between meals. "Bell Rock Growers has earned a solid reputation among retailers and consumers as a premium supplier of affordable green nutrition products for pets," says Walls. "Our Pet Greens Treats set the benchmark for quality, convenience and originality in pet nutrition."

Pet Greens Treats have a suggested retail price of $3.99 for 3 oz. packages of semi-moist cat treats and $5.29 for 4 oz. packages of jerky-style dog treats. Retailer prices may vary.

Based in San Marcos, Calif., Bell Rock Growers is a certified organic grower of live wheatgrass and the pioneer supplier of green nutrition products for pets. Bell Rock Growers' complete line of products Powered with Green Nutrition™ include: Pet Greens® Live Pet Grass® and Catnip; four varieties of Pet Greens Treats for dogs and cats; Pet Greens Garden self-grow wheatgrass kits; and an all-natural grooming line with wheatgrass.

Retailers and distributors are invited to visit Bell Rock Growers at booth #408 for free samples and exclusive H. H. Backer show offers in Baltimore May 16-18, or visit www. bellrockgrowers. com.

Awards and Nominations “Multiply” for Children’s Music Album - Googol Power's Multiplication Vacation Receives Indie Nomination in Canadian Independent Music Awards

Awards and Nominations “Multiply” for Children’s Music Album - Googol Power's Multiplication Vacation Receives Indie Nomination in Canadian Independent Music Awards.

“Multiplication Vacation”, the first release in the Googol Power Math Series has won several educational awards and has now been nominated for Canada’s Favourite Children’s Group. This group of characters with their magic can sing educational songs in just about every style of music. Behind the scenes is a group of exceptional musicians, songwriters and producers who want to inspire children to learn more about our world and beyond.

(PRWEB) February 7, 2005

Susan Jarema, mother and creator of the Googol Power Math Series, is excited to see her first CD, Multiplication Vacation, nominated for “Canada’s Favourite Children’s Group.” “Our album has won several educational awards in the U. S.,” Jarema explains, “but it’s especially exciting to see an educational album recognized in the Canadian music community.”

The Canadian Independent Music Awards is part of the 5th Annual Canadian Music Week (March 2-5, 2005), taking place in Toronto. It is Canada's largest annual entertainment event. Winners are chosen through an online voting poll, open to music fans from Feb 1st to 14th at www. cmw. net.

So, what is this NEW group Googol Power? Created by Jarema and her children, the “Googols” are seven bird-like characters from another Galaxy that have come to Earth to help children learn about their own world, math and space. The Googol Power Team is made up of 22 puppets and 7 illustrated characters. Behind the scenes is an artistic collaboration of talented songwriters, entertainers and vocal talents including David Pavane, Yurgen Ilaender (Mr. I), Gary Huntbatch, Jon Hemingway, Christine Frandsen, Krista Pavane, Mick Dalla-Vee and Leslie Hepburn.

The Multiplication Vacation CD and the Googol Power Math Series was inspired last year by Jarema’s two young children. “I wanted to create something educational and entertaining that the whole family could enjoy.” Jarema quickly assembled a talented team to help bring her vision of ‘layered learning’ to life.

Jarema convinced David Pavane to join the project as Music Director. Pavane, a father of four, was pleasantly surprised by the realization that all styles of music can appeal to every age group. “I'm writing some of the best music of my career,” says Pavane, “and both children and adults are loving it.”

“There is googols to learn with music,” says Jarema, “and it fits well into our busy lifestyles. I play educational music for my children in the car all the time. They don’t even realize they are learning important facts that will give them a head start and build confidence at school.”

Jarema also supports fellow artists in the edu-tainment industry. “We discovered so many other albums that teach curriculum through music that we decided to start Googol Learning Fundraising (www. googollearning. com) to promote family learning and to share other educational music products with parents. Schools can raise funds, artists can promote their work and everyone can learn!”

Multiplication Vacation is available at local bookstores, educational stores and at www. googolpower. com. The Addition Celebration CD and the DVD of Multiplication Vacation are scheduled for release in the next two months.

Current Awards For “Multiplication Vacation”: National Parenting Center Seal of Approval, Dr. Toy’s Best Vacation Product, Children’s Music Web Best Educational Album and Best Song: “Leonardo Da Vinci” by David Pavane For “Addition Celebration”: Creative Child Magazine’s Preferred Choice Award

The New Napa: Virginia Winemakers Show Their Talent for the Vine

The New Napa: Virginia Winemakers Show Their Talent for the Vine

Virginia Wine & Food Pairings at Kennedy CenterÂ’s Roof Terrace Restaurant--September 8,2003

WASHINGTON, DC (PRWEB) August 27, 2003 -

The American Institute of Wine & Food, National Capital Area Chapter, and the new Virginia Wine and Food Society will showcase the best of VirginiaÂ’s wine and regional food specialties on September 8, 2003, 6:30 p. m. at Roof Terrace Restaurant on the top floor of The John F. Kennedy Center for The Performing Arts.

Wine and food enthusiasts in the DC area will savor the harmony between locally produced wines and food of local origin prepared by the Roof Terrace RestaurantÂ’s new executive chef Michel Fitoussi. Chef Fitoussi comes from The Palace in New York City, where he was named one of the Master Chefs of New York. He brings a new sense of style along with his stellar reputation to the newly renovated restaurant with spectacular views.

Virginia—the fastest growing wine region in the United States--had virtually no wine industry until the mid-1970s when there were 6 wineries. Today, there are over 80 wineries and many are beginning to win national awards and international recognition. With this meteoric rise in number of wineries, award-winning vintages, rise in real estate property values, and boom in the state’s economic development and tourism, the comparisons to California’s Napa and Sonoma Valleys are inevitable.

And the wine quality? Excellent. "Virginia is one of the most exciting wine producing regions in the United States today. The number of wineries is growing rapidly and we are attracting new

Growers and many talented winemakers not only from within Virginia, but from Australia, France, Chile, and California. But the big story in Virginia is the reds. Virginia's wineries are producing first-class cabernet francs, equal to any being produced in the Loire Valley, excellent Bordeaux blends, and wild - flavored Nortons from a native Virginia grape," says Mike Potashnik, publisher of the Virginia Wine Guide, Virginia Wine and Food Society.

And international winemakers and critics agree that Virginia wines are coming into their own. In June 2003, Virginia wines were showcased in Florence, Italy for the top Italian producers in Tuscany, many of whom gave high marks to Virginia's Viogniers, Cabernet Francs, and red Bordeaux blends.

Michael Broadbent, the world renowned wine critic, was pleasantly surprised by the wines he tasted in Virginia (Decanter Magazine, February 2003) and Frank Prial from The New York Times has written he was impressed by the reds he had tasted in Charlottesville in the spring of 2002.

But most importantly, local chefs, wine enthusiasts, and restaurateurs are beginning to notice the quality in their own backyard. Says Michael Flynn, sommelier of Kinkead’s: “The AIWF/VWFS event is not just another wine tasting. Wine and food enthusiasts will have a unique opportunity to pair over 35 wines from 13 wineries, with a wide array of local food in a magnificent setting. Some of the wines to be poured, mainly Viogniers, will be from the 2002 vintage which produced some very good bottlings of this Rhone varietal.”

The wineries invited to pour include: Barboursville Vineyards, Breaux Vineyards, Chrysalis Vineyards, Horton Vineyards, Jefferson Vineyards, King Family Winery/Michael Shaps Wines, Linden, Pearmund Cellars, Rockbridge, Tarara Winery, Veritas Vineyards and Winery, Whitehall Vineyards, and Williamsburg Winery. The featured wines will be the Virginia Wine GuideÂ’s top rated: Viogniers, Cabernet Francs, Meritage blends, Chardonnays, Cabernet Sauvignons, Norton, and wonderful late harvest dessert wines from the 2002, 2001, and 1999 vintages.

The event is open to enthusiasts, guests, culinary students over 21, and AIWF and Virginia Wine and Food Society members. Price is $80 for members of AIWF and VWFS; $100 non-members. To RSVP, send check, payable to The AIWF, to Carolyn Margolis, 2440 Virginia Ave., NW,

Washington, DC 20037 or contact AIWF at (202) 333-0421 or www. aiwf. org/dc (http://www. aiwf. org/dc). To join the AIWF, go to www. aiwf. org/dc (http://www. aiwf. org/dc). To join the Virginia Wine & Food Society, go to www. virginiawineguide. com.

Established in 1981 by Julia Child, Robert Mondavi, and others, The American Institute of Wine & Food is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to understanding and celebrating the pleasures, benefits, and traditions of the table. The National Capital Area Chapter has over 400 individual members, half of whom are food and wine professionals. For more information about the chapter, visit www. aiwf. org/dc (http://www. aiwf. org/dc).

The Virginia Wine and Food Society is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to broaden awareness of and foster an appreciation of Virginia wines and the foods grown and prepared in Virginia that best accompany them. Members of the Society include the finest hotels and restaurants in Virginia and the Washington, D. C. area. The Society publishes the Virginia Wine Guide, an independent online consumerÂ’s guide to Virginia wines located at www. virginiawineguide. com.

College Loan Consolidation Essential To Hold Off Student Loan Interest Rate Increases

College Loan Consolidation Essential To Hold Off Student Loan Interest Rate Increases

Federal student loan interest rates are predicted to make historic jumps as of July 1, 2006, according to StudentLoanConsolidator. com. For new student loans, the recently passed Deficit Reduction Act will increase interest rates from as low as 4.7% currently to 6.8%, while the worst case scenario for students and graduates with existing loans shows a potential increase from as low as 4.7% to as high as 7.55%, an increase of 61%. If graduates don't consolidate their federal student loans immediately, they could find themselves paying thousands of extra dollars in interest.

Quincy, MA (PRWEB) February 23, 2006

Federal student loan interest rates are predicted to make historic jumps as of July 1, 2006, according to StudentLoanConsolidator. com. For new student loans, the recently passed Deficit Reduction Act will increase interest rates from as low as 4.7% currently to 6.8%, while the worst case scenario for students and graduates with existing loans shows a potential increase from as low as 4.7% to as high as 7.55%, an increase of 61%. If graduates don't consolidate their federal student loans immediately, they could find themselves paying thousands of extra dollars in interest.

Federal student loan interest rates are set based on the interest rate of the 3 month Treasury bill, or T-Bill. The rate of the 3 month T-Bill at the last auction in May of each calendar year is used as the baseline for setting the rates which take effect on July 1st of each calendar year. In addition, the Deficit Reduction Act legislation will prohibit students who are in school from consolidating their student loans (and thereby preserving today's lower interest rates) after July 1, 2006.

Christopher Penn, chief economist at the Student Loan Network, remarked, "What we are seeing right now is an assumption in the market that there will be increases in the baseline interest rate in the coming months to 5% or higher. What this means for students is that the projected rates for student loans are likely to go up, possibly as high as 7.55% before the rates are finalized at the end of May."

If Mr. Penn's projections are correct, students and graduates could be paying an interest rate anywhere from 6.9% to 7.55%. To prevent these potential rate increases, students and graduates should consolidate their federal student loans as soon as possible. Student loan consolidation offers the ability to lock in fixed rates, make one payment a month, and cut monthly payments by as much as 60%. Parents with federal PLUS loans are also generally eligible for student loan consolidation as well.

For more information or to consolidate federal student loans, visit http://www. StudentLoanConsolidator. com (http://www. StudentLoanConsolidator. com) or call toll-free (877) 328-1565.

Email CustomerService-at-StudentLoanConsolidator. com for more information; to apply for a student loan consolidation, graduates should visit http://www. StudentLoanConsolidator. com (http://www. StudentLoanConsolidator. com) as soon as possible or call toll-free (877) 328-1565.

StudentLoanConsolidator. com is a service of the Student Loan Network (http://www. StudentLoanNetwork. com (http://www. Santa's Helpers Deliver Christmas Gifts to Tattered Angles

Members of the Comunidad Cristiana Vida Nueva church took on the role of Santa's elves thanks to a $2,500 donation made just in time for the holidays. Salem, OR (PRWEB) December 24, 2004

Local Spanish Mennonite Church Receives $2,500. Members of the Comunidad Cristiana Vida Nueva church took on the role of Santa's elves thanks to a $2,500 donation made just in time for the holidays.

In church this Sunday, Christmas presents wrapped in shinny paper were placed in each needy child's arms. Parents' eyes form the local congregation lit up when they realized these beautiful boxes were for their children.

"The donation was an answer to our prayers," said the church's pastor Gilberto Estrada. "We were short on funds and were worried we wouldn't be able give gifts to the children in need this year."

The prayers were answered, and the donation was large enough to provide Christmas presents for the less fortunate children throughout the congregation and community, plus a reserve for future charitable giving's, along with covering travel expenses for Estrada.

The donation was made by a fellow non-profit organization called Buyers Fund-Neighborhood Gold. This newer charity provides grants that cover the down payment on a home allowing hopeful homeowners achieve their dream of homeownership.

Jonathan Porter, the local representative for Buyers Fund-Neighborhood Gold, worked alongside Steven Hernandez, Branch Manager of Chase Manhattan, to decide which charity needed these funds most.

"I knew the pastor and all the good work they do in this community," said Hernandez. "I wanted to reward them for being such a wonderful force and influence in our neighborhood."

Porter hopes this $2,500 donation will be one of many future donations that Buyers Fund-Neighborhood Gold will be able to gift to local charities.

“We look forward to continued success in increasing homeownership in Salem as well as making similar donations to improve our community,” said Porter.

In July 1999, Buyers Fund, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, was formed to help home buyers receive downpayment assistance. They pioneered same-day funding, flexibility in changing grant requests at a moment’s notice, and mortgage payment protection insurance. Body Ecology Inc. Announces Free Educational Seminar Aimed at Preventing and Reversing Autism

Body Ecology Inc. Announces Free Educational Seminar Aimed at Preventing and Reversing Autism

Body Ecology Inc., an Atlanta-based education and health consulting company is offering a FREE seminar on how the Body Ecology Diet™ (B. E.D.) can treat and prevent Autism. Success stories will be shared as well. The free Seminar will be held Friday, April 29, 2005, from 6:30 – 8:30 PM.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) April 2, 2005

Founded by Donna Gates, a nutritional consultant, author and lecturer, the Body Ecology Diet™ is a world-renowned system of healing that establishes and nourishes the growth of beneficial microorganisms in the digestive tract. Doing so has shown to be help reverse autism and related disorders such as ADHD. The seminar, which includes food sampling of delicious traditional foods, is being held at the Holiday Inn Express at 2183 No. Decatur Road in Decatur, GA. Reservations are recommended but not necessary. Call (404) 423-3438 for more information and directions.

Donna Gates, author of "The Body Ecology Diet," developed the diet after years of research to find a cure for her candida-related health problems and to help others overcome candida-related imbalances, immune disorders, and viral diseases. Recently, she has proven the powerful benefits of this diet for autism and related disorders. “One thing has become increasingly clear:” says Ms. Gates, “autism isn't the congenital condition that it was once assumed to be. It is preventable, and even reversible if we understand the multiple causes of the "systemic failure" that brings it about.”

In the past five years, doctors have consistently discovered that the primary contributors to Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) are a combination of conditions including severe intestinal dysbiosis, systemic fungal and viral infections, mineral deficiencies, abnormal serotonin levels and an abundance of toxic materials including pesticides, hormones, chemicals, mercury (from vaccines) and other heavy metals, all of which are addressed in the Body Ecology Diet™. The Diet is a complete system of health and healing that incorporates many different healing concepts, including ancient Chinese medicine, macrobiotics, natural hygiene, and raw and fermented foods.

Traditional fermented foods have a special focus on The Diet and are vital in correcting the digestive problems associated with autism.

Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are a group of developmental disabilities including autistic disorder, pervasive developmental disorder - not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS, including atypical autism), and Asperger disorder. Children with ASDs exhibit developmental disabilities and have unusual ways of learning, paying attention, or reacting to different sensations, generally having problems with social and communication skills. Autism begins during childhood and typically lasts throughout a personÂ’s life. In 2005, The Center for Disease Control announced that autism is the fastest growing serious developmental disability in the United States. It is estimated that 1.77 million Americans are affected by autism today and that this number could grow to 5 to 25 million by 2015.

Academy Students Learn to Draw Animals From Life

Academy Students Learn to Draw Animals From Life

Top art school Academy of Art University to host animal illustration day on March 25, 2008. Students in Tanya Ericson's Wildlife Drawing class and Terri Whitlatch's Creature Design class will get a close-up examination of their subjects when the Academy hosts three different-sized horses.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) March 16, 2008

Academy of Art University is known for their world-class illustration and animation classes, providing students with the most cutting-edge tools and resources. Instructors at this top art school (http://www. academyart. edu/ep/top-art-school. html) show students techniques they cannot find in any other classroom or in any textbook and provide an interactive approach to learning. Students in Tanya Ericson's Wildlife Drawing class and Terri Whitlatch's Creature Design class will get a close-up examination of their subjects when the Academy hosts three different-sized horses.

On March 25, 2008, students will gather in the parking lot of the 601 Brannan building to study and sketch a Saddlebred show horse, a pony and a miniature horse. It is extremely useful for animators and illustrators to learn how to draw the form of a horse since they have such large and complex muscle and bone structures. Since these horses are used to being around people, students can touch them and get an idea of how their bodies are shaped.

"Large horses are so inspirational to draw," said Ericson, who owns horses herself. "Students don't have the time to go out and study these animals on their own."

In the past, Ericson has brought in her own miniature horses for students to sketch. Miniature horses are slightly bigger than a large dog and thus very accessible to study. They also enjoy being around people, which makes miniature horses the perfect live model for a class.

Because dogs and horses are the most frequently drawn animals in an art career, both are incredibly important to study. Ericson encourages her animation students to draw the animals as if they are in motion, making them more lifelike.

For many years, the Academy has hosted a number of live animal models including a lion, pigs, dogs, snakes and more. Students in animal illustration classes also take field trips to the San Francisco Zoo, Monterey Bay Aquarium and the Lindsey Wildlife Museum to learn how to illustrate different species of animals. Academy of Art University aims to offer an expansive curriculum in animal biology coupled with creature design and animal animation.

The collaboration between the animation school (http://www. academyart. edu/animation-school/index. html) and illustration school (http://www. academyart. edu/illustration-school/index. html) demonstrates the Academy's multi-disciplined approach to education. Located in the heart of San Francisco, Academy of Art University is one of the foremost educational and artistic institutions in the world, providing students with the advantage they need in the art world. The supreme faculty of working professionals and state-of-the-art facilities give Academy students a competitive edge when they enter the art and design industries upon graduation.

The list of companies that hire Academy animation and illustration graduates reads like a who's who list of art and design - Pixar, Warner Bros., Industrial Light and Magic, Activision, Electronic Arts and more. Academy graduates have worked on hit films, such as Ratatouille and have had their work showcased in advertisements for companies such as H&M.

Renowned Author and Marketing Expert Idris Mootee Spoke About the "Massification of Luxury Brands" at the 16th International Annual Luxury Brand Meeting Held in Barcelona

Renowned Author and Marketing Expert Idris Mootee Spoke About the "Massification of Luxury Brands" at the 16th International Annual Luxury Brand Meeting Held in Barcelona

Marketing Guru Idris Mootee explained about how living has become a question of what one spends than what one makes. Consumers have gone from product to process, from problem resolution to emotion seeking, from object to experience.

BOSTON, MA (PRWEB) March 26, 2004 - IESE, a leading business school (Ranked 4th in Europe-

Financial Times) organized this meeting annually to create an opportunity for top management in the sector to reflect on strategy and to discuss future of luxury brands.

Attendees this year had the opportunity to hear from acclaimed business author and special guest speaker Idris Mootee as he offered thought-provoking concepts on how businesses can make sense of the "Massification of Luxury Brands". Titles to his credit include: High Intensity Marketing, Escape Velocity and the upcoming revised edition of 60-minute Brand Strategist.

He talked about current trends such as 'Mcdonaldization' and 'Walmartization' where individualism and diversity are being replaced by efficiency and social control and 'Consumer Rocketing', which is when people spend a disproportional amount of money in brands and products of great meaning to them. As a result today's consumer now fit into "Consumption Communities" as they are no longer divided by wealth, birth and political eminence but by consumption.
According to Mr. Mootee, "Living has become a question of what one spends than what one makes. It all begins with a need and then feeling anxious about resolving it. The experience ends, if successful, with a feeling of relaxation or satisfaction. If it does not satisfy the need, the process is then repeated until it abates. Consumers judge the act by the experience and have gone from product to process, from problem resolution to emotion seeking, from object to experience."

He also explained how advertising often provides gratification and recodes a commodity as a desirable psycho-ideological sign. But in fact, it feeds the desire to sometimes the unobtainable. Visuals are very powerful simply because they never satisfy. Meaning is created through continuous search for links between 'identity' and the 'self'. "It is like drinking carbonated water when you're thirsty will only make you more thirsty." He added.

He further suggested that humans are basically tool users and tools are not the end but the means. So materialism does not crowd out spiritualism at all; spiritualism is more likely a substitute when objects are scare. "When we have few things, we make the next world luxurious. When we have plenty, we enchant those objects around us therefore bringing many things such as a Hermes Birkin or a pair Manolo Blahnik to an enchanted level."

William Jessup’s Associate Men’s Basketball Coach Heads to Mexico for Basketball Clinic

William Jessup’s Associate Men’s Basketball Coach Heads to Mexico for Basketball Clinic

William Jessup University’s Associate Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Jeff Bussell, is heading to Tuxtla Gutierrez, Mexico to run an international basketball clinic for 7-18 year olds on April 6-10.

Rocklin, Calif. (Vocus) March 31, 2010

William Jessup University’s Associate Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Jeff Bussell, is heading to Tuxtla Gutierrez, Mexico to run an international basketball clinic for 7-18 year olds on April 6-10.

Bussell will be working with Germán González, holder of the Association basketball of the State of Chiapas (ABECH), to develop highly competitive players to represent the state of Chiapas at the state and national levels.

After recently winning the CALPAC championship, associate coach Bussell is volunteering his time to Athletes in Action (AIA), a Christian organization founded in 1966 by David Hannah, who desired to build on society's great love of sports and utilize the platform given to the athletes to reach the world for Christ.

As a branch of Campus Crusade for Christ, AIA has a ministry presence in 85 countries, on nearly 100 U. S. college campuses, and on 35 U. S. professional sports teams.

In 2007, Bussell led a team of college athletes from around the country on a two-week mission trip to Mexico City. While there, he ran basketball clinics for youth, coaches, and university players and coached games against various university and club teams in Mexico City.

The opportunity allowed him to build successful relationships with AIA personnel from the region. As a result of his 2007 trip, Bussell came in contact with Bernardo Sierra of AIA Mexico, who was seeking an American coach to come down and help run the clinic this year from April 6- 9.

“It’s a blessing to have the opportunity to share my passion for basketball, people and God in Mexico,” Bussell admits. “From past experience, I know the kids will be eager to learn from everything I’m able to give them. They have hearts of gratitude and thankfulness and are such a joy to work with.”

Bussell has spent the last 16 years involved in athletics and education. Before coming to Jessup six years ago, he served as vice principal, athletic director and coach at Sierra Christian Academy. He started out his coaching career at Casa Roble High School in Orangevale, CA. In addition to Bussell’s local ties, he served as assistant men’s basketball coach at Concordia University in St. Paul, Minnesota, the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota and has worked numerous basketball camps across the United States, as well as Denmark.

National Cancer Institute Honors Dr. Marguerite Raaen With A Scientific Achievement Merit Award

National Cancer Institute Honors Dr. Marguerite Raaen With A Scientific Achievement Merit Award

At the NCI’s ceremony in 2005, Dr. Marguerite Raaen was honored with a Scientific Achievement Merit Award for her central contribution to the NCI's first Integration / Implementation (I2) of a cancer imaging repository, and her scientific leadership in developing a suite of enterprise-wide imaging initiatives that support NCI Director Dr. Andrew von Eschenbach's goal to cure cancer by 2015. The unique aspect of this award to Dr. Raaen is that it is normally given for medical or pharmaceutical breakthroughs. Her award for computer science breakthroughs recognized the very significant leadership and technology accomplishments in architecting the system, programming the functions, and negotiating the kinds of agreements required for this shared data repository across 60 US cancer research centers. This national radiological repository for storing clinical data will enable more researchers to contribute and utilize the latest in national cancer research.

Washington, D. C. (PRWEB) March 29, 2006

Since the National Cancer Act was passed by Congress in 1971, making cancer research a national priority, National Cancer Institute (NCI) employee efforts have led to significant progress in cancer detection, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. Each year at the NCI Director’s Award Ceremony, several individuals are recognized for their outstanding contributions that aid in the continued advancement of this progress.

Dr. Raaen joined NCI in March of 2004. She was a member of the Bioinformatics Division at NCI working in the areas of clinical trials, genomics, and joint projects with the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration), PHRMA (Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America) and SAFE (Secure Access for Everyone). Her responsibilities included developing national repositories for clinical trial data capture, analysis and validation. Dr. Raaen worked with private sector organizations to improve data standards and data communication for clinical research which are funded by government and Pharmaceutical companies. As a computer scientist working with healthcare professionals, her goal was to make storing, retrieving and sharing data ubiquitous across the world, which could ultimately reduce the time for developing new approaches to treatment and the potential for a cure.

“Dr. Raaen had a critical role in the development of this program,” said Beverly Meadows, PhD, MS, RN, at the Division of Cancer Prevention at NCI. “Her understanding of both the scientific and technological requirements for this project enabled her to pull together the experts and organizations needed to ensure that all of the different aspects of this project were addressed. Dr. Raaen established a framework for the team to keep them focused on the end goal. It was a pleasure working with her.”

Dr. Raaen attributes the NCI repository funding commitment to the robust initial prototype shown to Dr. Von Eschenbach. For the rapid development cycle of the radiology repository prototype, Dr. Raaen would like to credit the diligence and innovation of a special group of individuals who, like herself, saw the ultimate good that a national repository would provide. The creative work and long nights of this dedicated team were the hallmark of excellence. Dr. Raaen credits the work of the following members of the team for quickly developing a prototype for the project and the final production application: Ajay Gupta, John Freymann and Sharon Settneck from SAIC; John Perry, from the Radiology Society of North America (RSNA); Bill Britton, Al Woods, Gavin Brennan, Wei Lu, and Craig Fee of TerpSys; Beverly Meadows from the Division of Cancer Prevention and George Redmond from the Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program. These were the dedicated few that made this prototype come together in light speed and followed next with the national production environment (http://imaging. nci. nih. gov/i3/).

The vision and leadership of Dr. Dan Sullivan, Director of the Cancer Imaging Program (CIP) at NCI along with his key staff members, Dr. Carl Jaffe, Dr. Larry Clarke, Dr. Gary Becker and Dr. Gary Dorfman, were critical at securing funding for future development and increasing the scope of this project nationally -- all pending on the prototype winning the senior NCI managements’ hearts and minds. Dr. Buetow, of caBIG (http://www. caBIG. org) and Sue Dubman, former Applications Director for the National Cancer Institute's Center for Bioinformatics donated Dr. Raaen’s time and energy for 70 to 80 hours a week from their budgets to promote the teamwork for this project which reached across organizational boundaries.

Throughout her 20-year distinguished career, Dr. Raaen has demonstrated a dedication to helping improve computer science through standards and new technology. Dr. Raaen has achieved an impressive executive career record of breakthrough results at Fortune 100 firms, startups and now the Federal Government. Most recently, she has been the Chief Technology Officer and Principal Deputy CIO for U. S. Department of Education and a scientific appointee at NCI. Dr. Raaen held positions as e-COO of Cable & Wireless; Internet Technology Executive at IBM, reporting directly to the President and General Manager of ibm. com, a 10,000 person sales, service and technology acquisitions IBM division; and Senior Vice President of Technology Alliances and Business Development at Chase Manhattan Bank /Intelisys Electronic Commerce in New York City.

Dr. Raaen has been recognized throughout her career with awards and commendations. Honor Loved Ones with Diabetes During American Diabetes Month

Honor Loved Ones with Diabetes During American Diabetes Month

In honor of National Diabetes Month, the American Diabetes Association is asking Americans to honor their loved ones with a donation in their name to the American Diabetes Association. Donations support diabetes research for a cure and education and advocacy programs that improve the lives of those living with diabetes.

Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) November 6, 2006

This November is American Diabetes Month and the American Diabetes Association (ADA) is asking for your help in supporting the millions of Americans who have the disease at http://www. diabetes. org/donate (http://www. diabetes. org/donate).

Chances are you know at least one child or adult who has diabetes or has a loved one with diabetes – not surprising, since nearly 21 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes. And another 54 million Americans have pre-diabetes, putting them at serious risk for developing type 2 diabetes.

Did you know that:

– Diabetes kills more people than breast cancer and AIDS each year.

– People with diabetes are two to four times more likely to suffer a stroke than people without diabetes.

– One in three Americans – and one in two minorities – born in 2000 will develop diabetes in their lifetime, if current trends continue.

Here's how you can help:

Consider a donation in honor or in memorial of a loved one to the American Diabetes Association at htttp://www. diabetes. org/donate (http://www. diabetes. org/donate).

You can make your donation in the name of a loved one – and send the recipients a personalized donation announcement by email or by mail. Your gift will show your love for someone affected by diabetes and help millions of others battle the disease.

During Diabetes Month, the amount of your donation could also double – without giving more. Equal®, the maker of the zero calorie sweetener has generously offered to match donations – dollar-for-dollar – up to a campaign total of $50,000. So, if you give $50, your donation could double to $100! Your donation will support diabetes research and education and advocacy programs that improve the quality of life for those with diabetes.

Go online now to http://www. diabetes. org/donate (http://www. diabetes. org/donate) to make your donation or call

1-800-342-2383.

The American Diabetes Association is the leading non-profit health organization dedicated to preventing and curing diabetes and to improving the lives of the nearly 21 million children and adults currently living with the disease. HealthPro Opens 60+ Corporate Training Centers Bringing Popular Educational Topics to Healthcare Professionals Nationwide

HealthPro Opens 60+ Corporate Training Centers Bringing Popular Educational Topics to Healthcare Professionals Nationwide

Nationally recognized healthcare industry and managed care expert, speaker and author, Maria K Todd MHA PhD, VP of HealthPro Consulting, Inc., announces the opening of more than 60 corporate training centers across the nation. The rollout of these local centers is in response to more than 60,000 past seminar participants exit comments from 1993-2003 regarding the need for high-quality, affordable, local seminars on healthcare business management, managed care and HIPAA compliance and reimbursment topics. This new one-day seminar model moves the workshops out of hotels and into private corporate training centers enabled with T-1 Internet connections and PolyCom videoconferencing capabilities at each location.

Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) April 14, 2004

HealthPro Consulting, Inc., is proud to announce the availability of more than 60 Corporate Training Centers in major cities across the nation. Existing clients and healthcare providers of all types and their staff will now be able to take advantage of high-quality local seminars and educational workshops on a variety of health administrative, topics such as managed care contracting and reimbursement, billing and coding, revenue improvement, HIPAA compliance, collections and many other topics. In addition, these Corporate Training Centers can be used to host corporate strategy retreats, one-on-one executive coaching sessions and expert testimony and depositions via videoconference.

No newcomer to the one-day seminar model, Maria K Todd, MHA, PhD, Vice President of HealthPro Consulting, Inc., lectures frequently for various state and national trade associations, universities, physician training, residency and fellowship programs and the US Military. She has presented more than 2000 educational programs and lectures since 1991 throughout the US and abroad. She spent an average of 270 days each year presenting seminars in over 70 major and secondary markets between 1993 and 1999. Her experience as a nationally recognized speaker, author of several books and consultant on managed care and related topics provided the insight for HealthProÂ’s business model. Todd is the author of The Managed Care Contracting Handbook, (1996, McGraw Hill and the HFMA, Chicago) IPA, PHO, MSO Development Strategies, (1997, McGraw Hill and the HFMA, Chicago) and the Physician Employment Contracting Handbook (1999, McGraw Hill and the MGMA, Chicago) and contributes articles to various professinal journals and special publications of the American Osteopathic Association. She also serves as an editorial resource to the Managed Care Contracting and Reimbursement Advisor (Brownstone), as well as local, regional, and national media. Todd regularly presents seminars and workshops through national associations including the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) on managed care contract analysis and negotiation and is listed in several professional yearbooks, including WhoÂ’s Who in American Women, WhoÂ’s Who in Medicine and Health, and WhoÂ’s Who in the World and is a recipient of the HFMA 1999 Follmer Bronze Award.

“What I learned from over 60,000 participants who have attended my programs is that they no longer have the time or travel budgets to attend seminars out of town. Many expressed desires for healthful snacks, lunch and parking to be included in the price of admission,” says Todd. They also wanted to spend less time navigating huge conference hotels to find their meeting rooms, since locals rarely sleep at the seminar venue.“ This presented a multi-faceted problem since the better hotels didn’t want to rent meeting space without sleeping rooms, and we refused to host events (or spend the night) at the category of hotels that would.”

“Our Corporate Training Centers enable us to bring high-quality educational programs to their area at an affordable price point including lunch, parking, program manual, and a CD filled with extra tools and templates to help participants quickly implement what they learned in class. Training Centers are located in upscale corporate environments as well as commercial centers including Atlanta’s Buckhead Section, Manhattan’s Rockefeller Center and Chicago’s Michigan Avenue. All Centers have corporate hotels either adjacent or within walking distance offering preferred rates” says Todd.

Through its affiliation with HQ Global Workplaces, each Training Center is equipped with state-of-the-art Polycom videoconference equipment and T-1 Internet service. “I need Internet access during a program when I want to share a research technique with my audience. Few hotels could provide Internet access in their ballrooms or meeting room, and hourly costs when available were prohibitive. Connections were arranged exclusively through on-site A/V vendors, whose high contract rates were then marked up by the hotels. All those costs were then included in the price of admission” says Todd. “Now these mark-ups are eliminated and equipment consistency is under control.” All of the Centers are ergonomically designed and accessible to physically challenged participants.

Physicians, dentists and other healthcare providers will begin to receive seminar and workshop catalogs and brochures this summer and programs will begin in September 2004. The entire program catalog and tour schedule is available on HealthProÂ’s website at www. healthproconsulting. net

Girltalk Vital to Many Female Plastic Surgery Patients

Girltalk Vital to Many Female Plastic Surgery Patients

Woman to woman honesty puts Dr. Petti in the spotlight Women find a female plastic surgeon gives them confidence and comfort.

(PRWEB) June 11, 2004

Girltalk vital to many female plastic surgery patients Woman to woman honesty puts Dr. Christine Petti into spotlight

Like many women considering plastic surgery, 36-year-old Julia found she had one final hurdle. “I just couldn’t confide in a man, even a doctor, about where I felt ugly. After all, I’d spent my life covering up my bulges and blotches from men,” she said.

Girltalk was the key for Julia who went to Dr. Christine Petti, one of the top female plastic surgeons in the Southland, after seeing her on a TV program. “Many women are naturally reluctant to speak honestly about their physical flaws to a man.” board-certified Dr. Petti said. “Some find it embarrassing or just too personal, so speaking woman to woman gives them confidence.”

Christine A. Petti, M. D., F. A.C. S. is not the only one whose practice is booming as plastic surgery has become a television staple. A record 7.5 million women had cosmetic surgery last year, up 33% from 2002, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Of the 8.7 total million nips and tucks in 2003, women counted for counted for 82% and they chose liposuction most often, followed by breast augmentation, nose reshaping, eyelid work and facelifts.

Yet only a handful of board-certified female surgeons reside in the Southland, home to thousands of male plastic surgeons. Dr. Petti is becoming famous for putting a feminine face on plastic surgery. She won the “Top Surgeons” Award for the fifth year in a row from the Consumers Research Council of America, been called an “Artist with a Scalpel” by the Daily Breeze, featured on The Discovery Channel and was recently the focus of a month-long cable TV series. “Up Close.”

Dr. Petti will extend her role as a media expert on health and beauty issues this summer with an appearance on the popular series “Speaking of Women’s Health” on Lifetime Network.

One of the patients she performed surgery on for the “Up Close” series was June of Redondo Beach, Calif., who said she was surprised with the dramatic change not only in her figure, but in her “self image and lifestyle” which Dr. Petti notes is just as important as the physical change plastic surgery can bring.

Dr. Petti and her caring, all-female staff are located in Torrance at the doctorÂ’s Aesthetic Accents Cosmetic & Laser Surgery Center, which also offers popular beautification treatments like Botox and Collagen injections and houses her Spa Bella day spa which has non-surgical anti-aging techniques including Fotofacials, peels, laser hair and vein removal, massage and more. Email: info@dr-petti. com.

Dr. Petti is a Diplomate of both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery. She graduated summa cum laude from St. MaryÂ’s of Notre Dame an continued her education at Georgetown University and University of Chicago. Palisades FCU Sponsors Financial Literacy Program for Local High Schools

Palisades FCU Sponsors Financial Literacy Program for Local High Schools

Recently Palisades Federal Credit Union, Cornell Cooperative Extension and the New York Credit Union Foundation teamed up to educate High School teachers on methods to improve the way they provide financial education in the classroom. Teachers participated in the National Endowment Foundation Education (NEFE) and Working in Support of Education (WISE) High School Financial Planning Programs in order to help their students take hold of their financial futures.

Pearl River, NY (PRWEB) July 29, 2008

In light of a stagnant economy and blundering investment market, the Palisades Federal Credit Union and the Cornell Cooperative Extension have come together to help teachers educate young people on enhancing their financial literacy.

Palisades Federal Credit Union, the Cornell Cooperative Extension and the New York Credit Union Foundation recently partnered to sponsor the National Endowment Foundation Education (NEFE) and Working in Support of Education (WISE) High School Financial Planning Programs. Many high school teachers, including four Rockland County educators, attended the July 14 event that employed NEFE's unique curriculum on personal economics held at Dominican College.

Citing a recent study by the Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc., Palisades FCU President and CEO Mark Welshoff said that nearly two-thirds of students learn about personal finance from their parents, but less than half say their parents make a consistent effort to teach them.

"Less than one-quarter of students and only 20 percent of parents say students are very well prepared to deal with the financial challenges that await them after graduation," he said. "While more than three-quarters of students wish they had more help preparing for their financial future."
Paul Trader, executive director of the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Rockland, explained that the course is specifically designed to teach students seven competencies, or practical skills, that they can use right away in managing their own finances.

"Today, it's particularly easy for young people to buy things on the spur of the moment without thinking about the long-term financial effect on their personal or family's savings and credit," he says. "How many of us older adults have thought, 'I wish I had started saving money earlier in life or at least had a basic plan to save for college, my first apartment, a reliable car, or even retirement?' This training will give them the skills to do just that."

The day-long training event, led by trainers from NEFE, WISE and Cornell Cooperative Extension, included strategies to use in handling and managing debt, how to use various financial services, create a personal insurance plan, and examine how choice of career and lifestyle will affect personal financial planning.
North Rockland High School teacher Tonianne DeSimone attended the educators' course and was impressed by the training.

"It is inspiring to see there are so many resources available to teachers at no cost to the school district and that there is a strong push for financial literacy for students," she says. "In today's difficult economic environment, this is so important; I look forward to providing this education to my students."

About Palisades Federal Credit Union
Headquartered in Pearl River, N. Y., Palisades Federal Credit Union (www. palisadesfcu. org), with over $147 Million is assets, is the largest Rockland county based credit union.
