Cincom Joins Forces With Public, Private and Non-Profit Companies to Help Win $25.2 Million Grant for High-Tech Collaborative Research Center

CINCINNATI, Ohio (PRWEB) December 7, 2003

Cincom Systems, Inc., a pioneer and leader in the software industry, joined forces in a collaborative effort with higher education institutions as well as public and non-profit companies to help win a $25.2 million dollar grant from the State of Ohio for a high-tech collaborative research center.

The center, named The Wright Center of Innovation Center for Computational Medicine (WCOI CCM) is a high-tech, collaborative research and development center focusing on the commercialization of innovations that fully integrate genetic and genomic information into clinical medicine. The Center is expected to create 203 new jobs in the next five years, resulting in a $240 million direct impact on the region's economy.

According to Cincom CEO Tom Nies, the longest-serving CEO in the computer industry, once hailed by former President Ronald Reagan as the epitome of the entrepreneurial spirit of American business, “We're excited about our participation in the WCOI CCM. The Centers' work will lead to new and better medical treatments – not only to cure many serious diseases but also to prevent them. Technologies developed at the Center will enable scientists to achieve discoveries that, in the near term, will improve the ability to fight the causes of hearing loss, cardiac disease, asthma, and diabetes. In the longer term, discoveries will fight psychiatric illness and cancer.”

Cincom will provide advanced database management and access capabilities to serve and assist the Center. In addition, Cincom will provide access to research, personnel, and software usage of its most advanced database management system, Cincom TIGERÔ, for three years.

Cincom participated in this initiative with Children's Hospital Medical Center, the University of Cincinnati, Procter & Gamble, Molecular Research Corporation, Sun Microsystems, CincyTech USA, the CityNet, and the Ohio Supercomputer Center.
