United States Department of Commerce Bolsters Support for Public and Private Colleges and Universities

United States Department of Commerce Bolsters Support for Public and Private Colleges and Universities

Over 586,000 international students in the United States during 2002/03 represented an estimated $12 billion dollars in buying power, making education and related spending the countryÂ’s fifth largest export category. Under the Imagine USA banner, participating colleges and universities exhibit at highly promoted in-country expos and events around the world to recruit international students to the United States. Now, corporations and organizations can showcase products and services targeted at the student demographic alongside educational institutions.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) February 23, 2004

The International Consortium of Educational Opportunities Media Ltd., (ICEO Media Ltd.) announced today that the United States Department of Commerce has certified and is fully supporting its unique Imagine USA trade seminars and exhibition to be held in Mexico City this November. Imagine USA will bring together both non-educational U. S. based private enterprise firms and well-established U. S. colleges in this Study USA event to feature a full spectrum of student services that will enhance the experience of all even participants.

"Imagine USA positions ICEO to more fully assist U. S. colleges and universities attract and recruit international students” said Don Huber, Program Manager of Certified Trade Fairs at the U. S. Department of Commerce. Mr. Huber continued, “This first-time combination of educational and related industry exhibitors gives all exhibitors a new dimension and opportunity to develop helpful consumer and educational relationships with tens of thousands of international students before they come to the United States for study. The Mexico City kick-off will launch the Imagine USA concept in selected countries around the globe.“

Juanita Ramos, CEO and Founder of ICEO Media Ltd., said, “The change in visas requirements over recent years has made it more difficult for international students to get into the United States. At the same time competitive destinations have ramped up their recruiting programs with public subsidies. With new assistance from private corporations, U. S. colleges and institutions can win back the upper hand. Each event can now showcase the authentic American experience these students expect.”

Imagine USA events produced by ICEO in 2004 and 2005 are planned for Europe, Asia, India and Latin America. Most notable is the Universitarea event in Mexico City, Mexico during November 2004. Produced in conjunction with the Mexican government and officials from the U. S. Embassy Mexico, Universitarea draws tens of thousands of visitors from Mexico and Central America.

Bryan Larsen the Commercial Attaché of the U. S. Embassy Mexico stated “Imagine USA at Universitarea is a great opportunity for U. S. colleges, universities and companies to connect with prospective students and influential consumers in Mexico. Blending educational and cultural interests into one event will send the message these kids are looking for - come to America and be a college student.”

Acupuncture Practice Opens in South Charlotte

On Tuesday, September 12, Denise Slavich, L. Ac., Dipl. Ac., ADS, will begin seeing patients at her acupuncture practice located at 4423 Sharon Road (in the ReGenesis building, across from SouthPark mall) in Charlotte, NC. Ms. Slavich is a classically-trained acupuncturist whose practice focuses on general health and wellness.

Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) August 12, 2006

On Tuesday, September 12, Denise Slavich, L. Ac., Dipl. Ac., ADS, will begin seeing patients at her acupuncture practice located at 4423 Sharon Road (in the ReGenesis building, across from SouthPark mall) in Charlotte, NC. Interested individuals should contact the ReGenesis Medical Spa & Wellness Center at 704-362-2232 or www. regenesismedicalspa. com to schedule an appointment.

Originating in China more than 2,000 years ago, acupuncture is one of the oldest and most commonly used medical procedures in the world. It consists of inserting fine needles into the body at precise points to treat specific health issues. Acupuncture is recognized by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) as an effective treatment for a wide range of common disorders. It is often combined with other Chinese medical modalities such as acupressure, Chinese dietary therapy, and moxibustion (thermal stimulation).

In much of the Western world, the efficacy of Chinese medicine is often shrouded in mystery. However, according to Ms. Slavich, acupuncture actually has more to do with physics than the paranormal: "Acupuncture is as much science as it is art," she says. "At its heart is the physics principle that 'energy precedes matter'. Beginning with Einstein's theory of relativity, science has repeatedly proven that mass is nothing but a form of energy, an energy that exists before its manifestation into material form.

"In the body, this energy (the Chinese call it 'qi', pronounced 'chee') is responsible for the structure and function of the entire organism. Qi flows through the body via an intricate network of pathways. While these pathways are not discernible by means of dissection, they can be detected and located by Western scientific methods.

"In Chinese medical theory, pain and illness result when the smooth flow of qi is hindered. This can be due to internal factors such as diet, exercise, rest, or emotions, or external considerations such as weather, trauma, microbes, or toxins. When acupuncture needles are inserted into specific points along the energetic pathways, they help to restore the smooth flow of qi by enhancing what is deficient, reducing what is excessive, and removing what is blocked. By making energetic 'suggestions', acupuncture stimulates the body's intrinsic healing abilities, helping the patient regain energetic balance and, ultimately, material health."

About Ms. Slavich…
Denise Slavich, L. Ac., Dipl. Ac, ADS, is a classically-trained acupuncturist whose practice focuses on general health and wellness. She is board-certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and is licensed to practice in North Carolina. She received her acupuncture training from the Jung Tao School of Classical Chinese Medicine, where she completed a nationally-accredited 4-year master's level degree program. She received her undergraduate education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, graduating Summa Cum Laude.

Before pursuing a career in acupuncture, Ms. Slavich served as a Cryptologist in the U. S. Navy; worked as a technical writer/editor for various industries; and instructed aerobics, yoga and other group fitness activities. She holds professional memberships in the North Carolina Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCAAOM), the American Association of Oriental Medicine (AAOM), the Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AOM) Alliance, and the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA). She is a certified Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist (ADS) for acupuncture-based treatment of addictions and related disorders.

New Release: Image Converter Plus 8.0

The newly released Image Converter Plus 8.0 is based on a new graphics engine and features improved performance, new sharing options (email and FTP upload), support for 17 new formats and numerous formats dialects, support for multi-core and 64-bit systems, and an improved user interface.

Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) October 14, 2009

fCoder Group, Inc announces the release of its Image Converter Plus 8.0. The new version is based on a new graphics engine and features improved performance, new sharing options (email and FTP upload), support for 17 new formats and numerous formats dialects, support for multi-core and 64-bit systems, and an improved user interface.

Improved graphics engine

Image Converter Plus 8.0 features an improved graphics engine. Most of the changes in Image Converter Plus are in the engine. Here are some highlights:

Image Converter Plus 8.0 works faster
It's a computing paradox that computers are becoming more powerful but software is working slower. Image Converter Plus 8.0 has undergone profound optimization and now operates 15% faster. This is a feature users will definitely notice.

Image Converter Plus 8.0 converts huge files*
Modern cameras with more megapixels produce larger photos. Not just a couple of megabytes or even several dozen megabytes (a piece of cake for Image Converter Plus), but really HUGE files several gigabytes in size. The new Image Converter Plus 8.0 eats them up! This is the kind of feature business users were waiting for. Work easily with big multipage TIFF files or aerospace photos.

Image Converter Plus 8.0 supports more formats and dialects
Image Converter Plus already supported all the popular image formats and most of the rare ones. Now the new Image Converter Plus 8.0 supports more than 260 formats and format dialects.

Image Converter Plus 8.0 works better with HDRI formats
HDRI formats are becoming popular as more people get into HDR photography. Image Converter Plus 8.0 offers complete support for HDRI formats.

Image Converter Plus 8.0 supports more RAW formats
New professional cameras hit the market every month, and almost all of them use their own file formats. Image Converter Plus 8.0 adds support for a number of new RAW formats, including photos created by cameras like Kodak, Nikon, Canon, Minoltra, Sony, Casio, Fuji, Pentax and Panasonic.

Image Converter Plus 8.0 supports multi-core processors
Multi-core systems are intended to make working with software more convenient. Enjoy that convenience to the full extent with Image Converter Plus 8.0.

Image Converter Plus 8.0 works on 64-bit systems
Image Converter Plus 8.0 offers complete support for 64-bit systems. Users working on the latest models will love it.

Image Converter Plus 8.0 provides extended support for 16-bit/channel in many formats, including PDF
16-bit images contain more colors and provide more flexible and precise image processing. Image Converter Plus 8.0 extends 16 bit/channel support.

Image Converter Plus 8.0 can work with EXIF and IPTC information
EXIF and IPTC tags contain metadata for formats like JPEG, TIFF, or RAW. With Image Converter Plus 8.0, users can save or change this information even when converting formats (as long as both the source and destination formats support EXIF or IPTC).

New sharing options
Images have to save to the hard drive or local network, right? Wrong! Image Converter Plus 8.0 makes it easy to reach more distant destinations.

Image Converter Plus 8.0 emails converted files
Email converted files with just a single mouse click.

Image Converter Plus 8.0 uploads converted files to FTP
Upload files to FTP or a website easily with Image Converter Plus 8.0. There's no need to open an FTP client.

Improved user interface
Do more in less time! That's always been the main idea behind the Image Converter Plus user interface. The new Image Converter Plus 8.0 takes it one step further. It isn't a different interface - it's just better. The streamlined interface of Image Converter Plus 8.0 is easier to use and saves valuable time.

Sidestep High-Calorie Holidays with Strategies from TOPS

Sidestep High-Calorie Holidays with Strategies from TOPS

For many of us, food is an important part of the holiday season. Family gatherings feature meals consisting of high-fat, high-calorie temptations that can sabotage even the most dedicated of otherwise healthy eaters. TOPS Club, Inc. (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), the nonprofit weight-loss support organization, recommends strategies that will allow you to navigate common food-centered traps while still enjoying festive celebrations without regret.

Milwaukee, WI (Vocus) November 13, 2009

For many of us, food is an important part of the holiday season. Family gatherings feature meals consisting of high-fat, high-calorie temptations that can sabotage even the most dedicated of otherwise healthy eaters. TOPS Club, Inc. (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), the nonprofit weight-loss support organization, recommends strategies that will allow you to navigate common food-centered traps while still enjoying festive celebrations without regret. Consider the following “smart swapping” tips to ensure that the turkey is the only one stuffed this season:
Choose two slices of skinless turkey breast over a drumstick to save calories and reduce fat and cholesterol.

Avoid using boxed stuffing mix and, instead, make your own with whole grain bread and turkey or chicken sausage. Increase the nutritional value by incorporating fruits, such as apples, pears, and cranberries, or almonds and walnuts.

Canned cranberry sauce often contains excess amounts of high-fructose corn syrup. Make your own cranberry sauce by pureeing dried cranberries in orange juice and water, or substitute the sauce with fruit-flavored gelatin.

Replace candied sweet potatoes with mashed or baked sweet potatoes. Replace heavy cream in the mashed potatoes with low-fat buttermilk and add a vegetable that can be easily mashed, such as turnips or green onion. Olive oil and dried or fresh herbs liven up roasted red potatoes with minimal calories.

Commonly known as “cocktail franks” or “pigs in a blanket,” bite-sized hot dogs are always a popular appetizer but laden with sodium and fat. Instead, snack on mini quiches for a tasty dose of protein that keeps you full.

Steer clear of crab cakes, which are typically breaded and deep-fried. Enjoy pieces of steamed or boiled shrimp dipped in cocktail sauce for a calorie-light alternative.

Swap potato chips and dip for the equally satisfying crunch of veggies. Dip into hummus or salsa for a low-calorie, flavorful topping.

For a sweet snack, enjoy an apple baked with cinnamon and nutmeg instead of an overly-indulgent caramel apple.

Pecan pie contains high amounts of sugar and fat – up to 800 calories per slice. Choose pumpkin pie for a rich, creamy dessert, and make it even healthier by using evaporated skim milk and egg substitute.

Consisting of heavy cream, eggs, milk, and sugar, egg nog is a classic holiday beverage. But even without the addition of alcohol, this drink can still spell disaster for those who are watching their weight. Try homemade hot chocolate and leave off the whipped cream to partake sensibly.

With these simple tradeoffs and a bit of discipline, you will be able to celebrate the season without feeling deprived – but just as satisfied.

TOPS Club Inc. (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), the original, nonprofit weight-loss education and support organization, was established more than 61 years ago to champion weight-loss support and success. Founded and headquartered in Milwaukee, Wis., TOPS promotes successful weight management with a philosophy that combines healthy eating, regular exercise, wellness education, and support from others at weekly chapter meetings. TOPS has about 170,000 members in nearly 10,000 chapters throughout the United States and Canada, and several chapters in Europe.

Visitors are welcome to attend their first TOPS meeting free of charge. To find a local chapter, view TOPS' Web site (http://www. tops. org) or call (800) 932-8677.

Dynamic Voluntourism Offers Aid to Tsunami-Stricken Villages of Sri Lanka

Relief Riders International (RRI) announces its special Tsunami Relief Ride to Sri Lanka, following the disastrous tsunami that claimed 30,000 lives in Sri Lanka.

Great Barrington, MA (PRWEB) August 24, 2005

Following the disastrous tsunami that claimed 30,000 lives in Sri Lanka, Alexander Souri, Executive Director of RRI traveled in April 2005 to undertake a needs assessment trip to see first hand the hard-hit southern coastal areas. Two thirds of the beautiful coastal areas were damaged by the extraordinary waves.

“As a witness to this extraordinary human tragedy, it was absolutely clear to me that we had to respond and do everything we could,” Souri noted.

In response, building on its award-winning relief rides to Rajasthan, India, RRI will take eight horseback riders on a humanitarian journey to bring desperately-needed supplies and medical aid to Sri Lanka. Working with the Ministry of Health, Souri is tailoring the trip to coordinate with on-going relief efforts, details of which are still being developed. Currently there are plans to help schools in four communities, replacing lost educational materials and holding pediatric clinics for the children.

A pioneer and leader in the VolunTourism field, RRI offers its travelers the opportunity to combine 170 km horse-back ride through rare and beautiful landscapes with a life-changing humanitarian mission. Participants will travel on white sand beaches, and through lush jungles and natural game reserves, while visiting Buddhist temples, and learning about local customs.

SourceMedical's Therapy Software Division Takes a Leading Role in Therapy Documentation For Medicare Requirements

SourceMedical, a leading provider of outpatient information management solutions, announced today that it is taking a leading role in providing industry education to prepare therapy clinics for Medicare audits. On September 24th, SourceMedical's therapy software division is sponsoring its first live webinar to address the legal issues surrounding the Medicare Recovery Audit Contractors (RACs). The Webinar features Amy E. Fouts, an associate with McKenna Long & Aldridge in Atlanta, Georgia, a law firm specializing in reimbursement and audit defense. Ms. Fouts specializes in Medicare and Medicaid overpayment and recoupment appeals. "One of the primary issues we see in a Medicare appeal is lack of adequate therapy documentation. The RACs are not going to help clinics pull together the required documentation. Anything that automates the process on the front end, such as a good EMR program, will make things much easier during an appeal." said Ms. Fouts.

Attachment Series: Work by Arounna Khounnoraj at Rare Device

Exhibition dates: March 6, 2009 - March 31, 2009; opening date: March 6, 2009.

San Francisco design store and gallery, Rare Device, is proud to present Attachment Series: Work by Arounna Khounnoraj. Her work will occupy the Rare Device gallery March 6, 2009 - March 31, 2009. An opening party and trunk show for Papaver Verthand felted items by Patty Benson) will be held Friday, March 6 from 7 - 9 pm.

Arounna Khounnoraj received her art education from The Ontario College of Art, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and an MFA from University of Waterloo. She has received numerous awards from The Ontario Arts Council, Toronto Arts Council and The Ontario Craft Council. She has exhibited her work in solo and group shows across Canada and her work is in public and private collections. She currently resides in Toronto with her husband John and her children Liam and Piper.

About Attachment Series: "I am currently exploring notions of displacement and identity in sculptural form where work consists of accumulations of ideas and thoughts like glimpses from your self-conscious: a visual representation of a mental list. Fragmented in nature, each work contains a collage of elements and materials which exhibit their own formal logic while at the same time suggests an object, place or use that is no longer or only partially present, remaining only as a vestige. The structures I create are forms that evolve through a slow accumulation of materials and repetitive gestures. These processes result in small objects assembled together to create compositions and serial repetitions, with each stitch contributing to the work--repetition, pattern and form."

Rare Device is a store and gallery that features functional experiments and original ideas in art, design, craft and fabrication. Owners Rena Tom and Lisa Congdon constantly seek out objects that are beautiful, evocative, well constructed and thoughtful. We are pleased to bring to our San Francisco store an ever-growing roster of local, national and international artists and designers for a truly "rare" experience.

Rare Device (raredevice. net) is located at 1845 Market Street between Valencia and Guerrero Streets. Store/gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday noon to 7 pm and Sunday noon to 6 pm.

To address this serious inequity, Comprehensive Health Education Foundation (C. H.E. Recession Proof Your Finances -- Money Advice from Consolidated Credit Counseling Services, Inc

Recession Proof Your Finances -- Money Advice from Consolidated Credit Counseling Services, Inc

Struggling consumers are worried about how economic decline in coming months could affect their wallets. Consumer confidence dropped in January; money and budget pressures are increasing; debt-to-income ratios of 140 percent are common; and savings rates have turned negative. These are all strong indications to Consolidated Credit Counseling Services, that if we are not in a recession now, we could be very soon.

Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) February 12, 2008

With everyone talking about an impending recession -- or declaring that we are in a recession now -- many people feel their financial future is not safe. Empty homes and for-sale signs litter neighborhoods, credit card defaults (http://www. consolidatedcredit. org/debt-management/what-is-debt-management. aspx) are rising, people are being laid-off, and retirement investments are shrinking.

Sixty-one percent of the public believes the economy is now suffering through its first recession since 2001, according to a recent poll. Howard Dvorkin, CPA and founder of Consolidated Credit (http://www. consolidatedcredit. org/default. aspx) offers this advice to soften the blow and maybe help you come out of a recession looking like a winner.

•Pay down your credit cards. Carrying a huge balance or multiple balances is doing severe damage to your financial well-being. "If you are having problems, contact your credit card company to negotiate for a better interest rate, (http://www. consolidatedcredit. org/debt-management/how-debt-management-works. aspx)" says Dvorkin. "If they are not cooperative, then contact Consolidated Credit Counseling for advice," he continued.

•If you work with a company that has a staff of sales people talk with them. If sales are low and they are barely getting by then everyone's job could be in jeopardy. You may want to investigate in another career or at the very least, another job; but don't quit your job before finding something else.

•Build an emergency fund. You should have up to six months of savings to take care of your living expenses. "If you don't, then start saving by cutting down on unnecessary spending; skip the morning coffee, bring a bag lunch, forget the Saturday night restaurant trips, stay home and read a book instead of going to the movies, cut back on your cable," Dvorkin advised.

•If you receive any checks or rebates from the government put that money in your emergency fund. You can also get a second job and put that money in your emergency fund or use it to pay down your credit cards. Many places need weekend help. Who knows, you may enjoy the work.

•Apply for unemployment benefits without hesitation if you are laid off (http://www. consolidatedcredit. org/debt-learning-center/booklets/Surviving-A-Layoff. pdf) from your job. It may take some time for the paperwork to be processed. You'll want to collect these benefits as soon as possible.

•If you have stocks and bonds talk with an expert to make certain that you are diversified. You should not panic and sell right away. Keep a close watch on the market and your investments. If you are in it for the long haul and are diversified you should be fine. If not reevaluate your portfolio and come up with a formula that you are comfortable with.

•Don't act hasty if the walls start crumbling around you. If you have to take money from your retirement plan, first understand the rules. As far as your individual retirement account, you can withdraw money from it for any reason. When dealing with a traditional IRA, you will owe income tax on the withdrawal and if you are younger than 59 ½, you will also owe a 10 percent penalty.

•If you can prove that you are experiencing financial hardship some 401(k) plans allow withdrawals -- but you will still owe income tax on the withdrawal and, again if you are younger than 59 1/2, you will owe a 10 percent penalty. There may be other exceptions due to age so speak with someone regarding your 401(k) plan.

•This may sound obvious, but don't spend money because it makes you feel good. Many people like to go on spending sprees when they are depressed or feeling anxious. Don't do it; tough it out and become a disciplined saver. Try to stay positive and focus on coming out of this a winner. Also, don't take cash advances on your credit card; borrowing from cards and other unsecured lines of credit rose an annualized 11.3% in November to $937.5 billion, according to the Fed. You are simply wasting your money on exorbitant interest rates.

•Start a new business. It's a fact that many successful businesses were opened up during poor financial periods. If you have the right game plan and the money to do it, this may be the time to live out your life's dream.

Ultimately, it's important not to panic if you feel you are being financially stressed out. Work with your family to come up with new ideas on how to save money (http://www. consolidatedcredit. org/debt-management/benefits-of-debt-management. aspx) or make money and if you feel that your job is at risk don't hesitate to start looking for new work. Call friends and old work partners; begin the networking process so you will have a new job lined up. Don't wait for the other shoe to drop; strategize and make a commitment to adjust to anything the fluctuating market throws your way.

ChiroMatrix Releases “The Neural Highway” Video to Help Chiropractors Explain Chiropractic Methodology to Patients and Bring in More Appointments

ChiroMatrix Releases “The Neural Highway” Video to Help Chiropractors Explain Chiropractic Methodology to Patients and Bring in More Appointments

ChiroMatrix, the leading provider of chiropractic websites and web marketing, now offers a video called “The Neural Highway,” a new tool for chiropractic websites that will explain to new visitors how chiropractic care works and encourage new patient appointments.

(Vocus/PRWEB) December 22, 2010

On December 15th, 2010, ChiroMatrix released a new feature for clients called the "Lead Video." This was the most recent feature in a long string of releases from the chiropractic website and online marketing firm.

The Lead Video is an exclusive item that fits on ChiroMatrix-created website and is used for both prospective and future patients of any chiropractor who works with ChiroMatrix. The first video of this kind is titled "The Neural Highway."

"The Neural Highway" is an entertaining and educational video, in which TV personality Jeff Thisted takes the viewer through a tour of the human nervous system to explain where physical maladies can happen and how chiropractic care can help. Jeff Thisted is a Hollywood actor who has appeared in "JAG" and hosted the popular show "QuizNation" on GSN.

"This video is a major breakthrough for us because it is such a leap towards our goal: explaining chiropractic and wellness care on our websites so our chiropractor clients can bring in more patients," said Tracy Walton, Brand Development Manager. "We made sure that the video would be extremely educational and entertaining. Jeff Thisted did a great job in making this a video a learning tool that any chiropractic website visitor would want to finish, and even pass along to their friends."

"I was on board with this project from the beginning," said CEO Asaf Benhaim. "We've known for a long time that the more fun a prospective patient is having learning about chiropractic care, the more likely he or she will schedule an appointment with one of our clients right from the website. This was the whole driving force behind 'The Neural Highway.'"

Beyond the "game show" like explanation of chiropractic care, the video features engaging animation to show how spinal problems like "subluxations" can happen and how preventative and rehabilitative chiropractic care can make all the difference in having a healthy body. When the viewer either finishes, pauses, or hovers a mouse over the video, there is an "action screen" that appears to let the viewer request an appointment right on the spot.

University Promotes Canadian Education in Turkey

UCAN wraps up recruitment tour in Istanbul.

Vancouver, BC (Vocus) October 23, 2009

Representatives from University Canada West are preparing to conclude their fall recruitment tour of Turkey in Istanbul on October 25, 2009. With an increasing number of international students looking to Canada for post-secondary education, UCAN hopes to provide access to those looking for a Canadian university education.

“The Canadian education system is recognized worldwide for providing a high quality academic education and credentials accepted by employers and universities around the globe,” says David Strong, UCAN’s President and Vice-Chancellor. “One of the major barriers to international students studying in Canada, however, is limited access to the public institutions. “UCAN is already on its way to becoming a post-secondary institution of choice for students around the world,” Strong adds. “By committing to offering a high quality education through a wide range of methods that cater to both international and domestic students, we will strengthen the reputation and recognition as the university of choice for students worldwide.”

Representatives will hold an educational information seminar on in Istanbul October 23rd. UCAN will participate in the IEFT expo in Istanbul at the Hilton Hotel on October 24 – 25, 2009. Walgreens Becomes First National Retailer to Podcast Their Jobs, Using New Jobcast Service

Walgreens Becomes First National Retailer to Podcast Their Jobs, Using New Jobcast Service

Jobs in Pods, the web's first ever audio jobcast service, announced today that national retailer Walgreens has begun a new recruitment campaign which highlights the different career paths at America's fastest-growing retail pharmacy.

Trumbull, CT (PRWEB) July 23, 2007

Jobs in Pods, the web's first ever audio jobcast service, announced today that national retailer Walgreens has begun using its services for a new recruitment campaign which highlights the different career paths at America's fastest-growing retail pharmacy.

The first "jobcast" focuses on Pharmacist jobs and can be listened to at Jobsinpods. com. Amanda Bidlencik, Walgreens' Manager of Pharmacy Relations represented the company during the interview. The eight minute audio details the role of a Walgreens Pharmacist and covers such topics as educational assistance, career advancement opportunities, benefits offered and how to apply.

"This is a great way to speak to the iPod generation of job seekers," says Chris Russell, the founder of Jobs in Pods. "Walgreens is bringing their jobs to life and connecting with today's job seekers in a medium they are comfortable with," he adds.

Shaker Recruitment Advertising & Communications, which helped plan the audio series, agrees. "Individuals consume more forms of media now than ever before. Companies need to be evaluating all possible media outlets that will allow them to connect with potential candidates. Podcasts are an emerging and targeted solution that will help Walgreens attract more right-fit candidates," says Chris Stone, a Digital Strategy Specialist with Shaker.

Walgreens also has other podcasts scheduled in the coming weeks. The other two will focus on Store Management careers and Hourly Associates.

Russell contends that today's generation of job seekers require a different approach to recruiting. "They don't like dull, corporate-speak. They require unique and creative methods of communication. iPods are also part of their daily life and any company which uses Jobs in Pods will have their podcasts available for download on the iTunes site." Jobs in Pods also gives employers the ability to embed these podcasts on their corporate career sites.

Online Training Delivers Quality English Lessons

Online Training Delivers Quality English Lessons

A new study from EnglishLink reveals that online learning makes the dream of quality, native-speaker English training a reality.

(PRWEB) October 3, 2007

Studies conducted by Drake Training Systems Limited reveal that e-learning / online education (http://www. englishlink. tv) is the most efficient & cost-effective way to provide native-speaker quality English training, especially to regions where training is most in demand.

For those who have experienced e-Learning, its benefits are quickly obvious. But can it compete with the traditional classroom experience? Absolutely…and beyond.

Traditional teacher-led classes have been around for over 1,000 years. The evolution of e-Learning started about 10 years ago with computer-based training (CBT). The field has come a long way in a short time, generally due to the development of broadband and technology. Online training is rapidly filling the gaps that traditional classrooms cannot. Englishlink, created by Bahamas-based Drake Training Systems Limited, is an example of an online product that is improving education (http://www. englishlink. tv/englishlink/benefits_ENG_HTML. asp).

The most obvious advantages of e-Learning are its flexibility, convenience, and the freedom to move at one's own pace. Then there are the less obvious benefits of not commuting to classes, never missing a scheduled class due to other commitments, and the freedom to study at the time of day when the student is most alert. The main disadvantage of most e-Learning courses (http://www. englishlink. tv/englishlink/courses_ENG_HTML. asp) is the lack of face-to-face interaction with a teacher. Not with Englishlink! Students are constantly guided by their 'video' teacher in a nurturing virtual environment.

Different education markets have different gaps to fill. The worldwide English as a Second Language (ESL) market is perfectly suited for this style of learning. According to Lesley Rogan, creator of Englishlink, 'e-Learning clearly ties in with the demand for quality English language training globally'. With approximately 1 billion people learning English at any one time, not surprisingly, there is a shortage of qualified native-speaker ESL teachers - particularly those willing to live in low-income countries. In addition, e-Learning levels the field for less wealthy learners who cannot afford to pay for expensive native-speaker classes in their own country, or to study abroad. "Knowing that the majority of our students are getting the best English training they have ever experienced makes all our hard work a delight", says Lesley.

Other benefits of e-Learning are cultural. In some countries, certain sectors of society are not given access to classroom teaching, while other cultures have a fear of 'losing face' and are thus hesitant to make mistakes in front of others. In circumstances like these, the private nature of e-Learning is a great way to learn English, and to develop more confident speaking.
The global learning community is now at one's fingertips. E-Learners have high retention rates, flexibility, and access to once inaccessible content and teachers at an affordable price. There is no doubt the traditional classroom has its advantages, but with the benefits it affords, ignoring online learning is a shame.

About Drake Training Systems Limited

Drake Training Systems Limited delivers Englishlink, an Internet-based English as a Second Language training program. DTSL's Englishlink delivers innovative and convenient online English training to anyone in the world with broadband access. The program provides access to high quality but affordable English lessons delivered by a native-speaking 'video' teacher.

Webcast Summary:

Nanostructured materials of various types and forms are increasingly subject to nearly every type of chemical and physical analysis possible. Because of their small size, highly spatially resolved methods are of great value.

Since nanostructured material systems often contain a large amount of surface or interface area, it is also natural to characterize them using tools designed to analyze surfaces and interfaces. We have found that nanoparticles and other nanostructured materials present a variety of obstacles to useful analysis.

Issues related to specimen handling, contamination, environmental conditions, and time can be important for analysis of many materials but are of greater concern for nanomaterials. Issues related to the shape and stability of nanostructured materials are less discussed but play a major role in some of our studies. Adequate analysis often requires application of several complementary analysis methods and reconciliation of the different types of information they provide.
