Online Education Effort Urges Young Adults to “Get Covered” Under New Health Care Law

Online Education Effort Urges Young Adults to “Get Covered” Under New Health Care Law

“Get Covered California!” That’s the message of an ambitious statewide new media effort supported by The California Endowment designed to educate young adults and their parents about the latest provision of the new national health care law. The health law’s new provision allows young adults to stay on their parents’ health insurance plan until they turn 26 – even if they get married, move to another state, finish school or pay their own expenses. In California alone, this change could alleviate the health care woes of 196,000 uninsured young adults. The hub of the Get Covered California campaign is GetCoveredCA. org, which is also highly integrated with Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other social networking tools. Through GetCoveredCA. org, people can learn about the new health law, share information with parents and friends, submit questions to an expert, watch videos and share health insurance struggles.
