FLAVORx Program Explodes into Canada and is Now Available in One Out of Five Canadian Pharmacies

FLAVORx, the award-winning Maryland-based biotech firm that has defined an industry and safely flavored more than 50 million prescriptions worldwide, announces new partnerships with leading Canadian pharmacy chains.

(PRWEB) July 27, 2005

FLAVORx, the award-winning Maryland-based firm that has defined an industry, announced its partnering with leading Canadian pharmacy chains: Le Groupe Jean Coutu, Overwaitea-Sav-on Food Group, Calgary Co-op, Loblaws, Sobey's/Lawtons, Main Drug Mart, and London Drugs to name just a few.

The expansive introduction into Canadian pharmacies means that FLAVORx is now available to customers in every province and territory; in Quebec, FLAVORx is trademarked as SAVEURx+.

FLAVORx has advanced the challenge to medicinal compliance by perfecting the methodology that allows pharmacists to turn any bitter or foul-tasting medication into a readily-accepted, flavored liquid. It provides patients of any age, with prescription drug or over-the-counter (OTC) medications, a palatable and safe liquid so they can comply with their doctor's instructions and recover from illness more quickly.

"These Canadian retailers can now offer their customers the appealing tastes of FLAVORx'd prescriptions which, for over a decade, have helped change 50 million bitter-tasting liquids and hard-to-swallow tablets and capsules into easy-to-swallow palatable solutions and suspensions, significantly increasing compliance and improving medical outcomes," states Kenny Kramm, President and CEO of FLAVORx. "The entire FLAVORx team is proud of these partnerships and looks forward to offering patients this compliance-improving enhancement."

This is just in time for Canadian pharmacies to gear up for what could be the worst flu season on record. Pharmacies across Canada are rapidly preparing in case this strain of the Flu spreads west and causes a pandemic infection as well as death.

To educate physicians prescribing FLAVORx'd medications, the company has an ongoing, nationwide Doctor Detailing Program. More than 1,500 practitioners, in all provinces, have thus far been served by FLAVORx specialists based in Montreal, including: pediatric specialty clinicians (allergy, asthma, otolaryngology, gastroenterology, nephrology, neurology and oncology); General Practitioners; and doctors of Family Medicine.

The Canadian-U. S. enterprise increases the number of North American pharmacies using the FLAVORx system to more than 30,000. Ashton Maaraba, Senior Vice-President of Canadian operations explains that, "This broad initiative reflects a growing awareness of the importance of complying with doctors' prescription orders in terms of improving patient health."

Maaraba is working with the Canadian Public Health Administration (Administration of Health Services/National Research and Program Activities) to develop a workshop-centered campaign focused on educating the public about remedies for medicinal non-compliance due to drug unpalatability.

FLAVORx's significance in compliance is seen as so important by the profession that it has become a standard in pharmacy education. Physicians, pharmacists and pharmacy schools have teamed with the FLAVORx professionals to increase awareness to medical professionals and consumers about the role of palatability in medicinal compliance. A three-day educational workshop for future pharmacists was recently conducted by FLAVORx at the University of Montreal. Discussion focused on the significance of safe and efficacious compliance-driven therapies, and the role that licensed pharmacists play in the health care cycle.

The listing of FLAVORx in Remington's 2003 edition; profiling in the best-selling guide to parenting," What To Expect The First Year"; and pediatric pharmacological analysis in the July 2004 issue of "Infectious Diseases in Children" have convinced health care professionals that FLAVORx is the primary solution of choice for the problem of medicinal non-compliance related to intolerable taste or smell.

Throughout the retail pharmacy community, FLAVORx continues to provide quality products and services that positively impact patient's well-being.
