A Birds Eye View Of.....Webcams, has become the first generally accepted Webcam Directory in the field of Education across the world. It’s principle of upholding the ‘5 Keys’ has proved a winner with Educators in Europe and the United States and Canada as well as all other visitors who have praised it for its ability to produce the maximum result with the minimum of effort and for its high safety standards with regard to children.

Created only 6 weeks ago, it has become a vital tool to Educators, as the content is not only of the highest quality, but also informative, most of the cameras selected giving additional information about the subject or location. As an exciting aid to classwork it has been accepted within the firewalls of major School networks, the largest of which contains 45,000 users, and one Educator has been quoted as saying – “The site is AWESOME”.

Co-partners Ken Burnside and Graeme McKnight, based in Glasgow, United Kingdom, found that every other webcam directory contained high percentages of broken links, indiscernible images, still images pretending to be ‘live’, unacceptable download times and many sites listed that gave access to material of an adult nature, and yet NONE seemed to realise that as a teaching aid, they had the most powerful weapon of all – adding live pictures to perhaps otherwise dry text or speech based lessons in schools.

“We thought this to be a glaring error on the part of the other directories who seemed to be more intent on looking good or boasting how many cameras they had listed” said Graeme McKnight. “When you consider how many potential users there are sitting behind school desks, many of whom will in turn become Educators and parents, this was an area that needed to be catered for and so we created A BIRDS EYE VIEW OF.....WEBCAMS that encompassed the 5 ‘Keys’.

KEEp it simple.

KEEp it free of all adult material either directly or indirectly.

KEEp the links up to date.

KEEp the downloads fast.

KEEp remembering that the visitor comes first every time and donÂ’t want their time wasted.

(And yes, it is a play on words.)

It has become especially important in the light of announcements by various Governments of their intention to ‘wire’ every school in their respective countries within the next 2 years and yet the Internet can be a minefield for children and parents concerned about the material they may be exposed to even inadvertently.

As parents themselves, and having been involved in Education, Ken and Graeme are qualified to understand these concerns.

“It just seemed a logical step to create a totally safe environment for schools, children and families”, went on Graeme McKnight, “that could entertain, inform and educate all at the same time without the risk of inappropriate exposure to offensive material. We always aim for Quality, not Quantity.

“There are well over 600 unique camera locations, each of which are visited at least once a month to ensure their adherence to our ‘5 Keys’ policy. If they fail, they come off the site immediately. Similarly with camera suggestions we get, they get thoroughly examined before they get listed, again unlike most other sites that just list the suggestions to increase their numbers.

“If the traffic we are receiving after just 6 weeks is anything to go by, we have struck the right chord and merely makes us even more determined to maintain our high standards and if possible, make other directories realise that the safety and the time of the visitor are precious. Better to have a visitor spend 5 minutes in the site and leave satisfied which will make them return, than 15 minutes in the site and leave disappointed and frustrated which is unlikely to result in a repeat visit.

“It is sometimes the simple and uncomplicated approach which results in the highest rewards.”

Thank You.
