A New Jersey Anti-Poverty Charity Enlists Donors to Help Meet Rising Soup Kitchen Demand this Thanksgiving Holiday

Eva’s Village (http://www. EvasVillage. org), one of the nation’s most comprehensive anti-poverty charities is seeking charitable donations to help meet the rapidly increasing demand at Eva’s Kitchen, their Paterson, New Jersey soup kitchen.

Paterson, NJ (PRWEB) November 17, 2009

“Last year, when we were serving 320 hot lunches every day instead of our usual 240, we knew we were feeling the effects of the troubled economy, but we never expected to see more than 400 hungry people coming to Eva’s Kitchen on a daily basis!” states Sister Gloria Perez, Executive Director of Eva’s Village, a nonprofit providing more than a dozen multi-faceted anti-poverty programs in Paterson, NJ.

So far in 2009 the number of hot lunches served daily at Eva’s Kitchen, the soup kitchen (http://www. evasvillage. org/kitchen. html) program at Eva’s Village, has climbed relentlessly every single month, bringing many new faces and new stories of hardship. Eva’s Village depends on the generosity of individuals, organizations, corporation and foundations to help them to care for the hungry, the homeless, the addicted (http://www. evasvillage. org/treatment. html), the sick and the poor.

Support and donations to Eva’s helps supply a meal where many thought there would not be one, and so much more. As Sister Gloria says, “With just one donation to Eva’s Village, a donor can feed hundreds of hungry people in New Jersey; you can shelter the homeless, treat the addicted and provide free medical and dental care to the poor; and you can help addicted and homeless mothers undergoing recovery and counseling keep and care for their children by providing them with a home (http://www. evasvillage. org/shelter. html), food, clothing, help with education and much, much more!" She continues, “Thanksgiving is a special time to give thanks for all the good in our lives, and helping those less fortunate makes a very real difference in the lives of the poor”.

Donors will also be pleased to know that their donations to Eva’s Village are used with great care, as indicated by the findings of Charity Navigator, an independent evaluator of the effectiveness of charities across America,: “Only 19% of the charities we rate have received at least 2 consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that Eva’s Village consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way, and outperforms most other charities in America. This “exceptional” designation from Charity Navigator differentiates Eva’s Village from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust.” (Ken Berger, President & Chief Executive Officer, Charity Navigator).

Originally a New Jersey soup kitchen, Eva’s Village was founded in 1982 by Msgr. Vincent E. Puma in response to the increasing incidence of homelessness in Paterson, NJ (http://www. evasvillage. org/contact_evas. html). But Msgr. Puma soon realized that another New Jersey soup kitchen was not enough. With the generous support of thousands of donors and private and government grants, Eva’s Village has grown into the most respected anti-poverty program in New Jersey.
