PHOENIX, Ariz. - America West Arena, home of the NBA Phoenix Suns, will serve as the site of the first-ever basketball event comprised entirely of Native Americans this coming July as it hosts the first-ever Native American Basketball Invitational, produced by POD Productions.

Nike has joined the Suns as presenting sponsors of the event, to be held July 10 through 13. Game times will be set at a later date.

The tournament will feature teams of Native American high school student-athletes, male and female, allowing them an exclusive stage before professional and college scouts. In addition, the event will be hosting clinics that will focus on the importance of furthering their education.

“The Native American Basketball Invitational is a great opportunity for the Native American community to showcase their passion to the sport of basketball, as well as highlight some of the most talented young athletes that live in this community” says Sam McCracken of Nike Native American Business.

NikeÂ’s new program NikeGO, a grassroots community affairs program with a mission to increase physical activity in youth, will have a great presence and impact on the youth attending the event. For more information about NikeGo, visit www. nikego. com.

In addition to Nike and the Suns, sponsors for the tournament include Phoenix Mercury and America West Arena.

A portion of proceeds from ticket sales for the tournament will be donated to non-profit agencies that work specifically with the needs of Native American youth and their communities. Additional information about the tournament can be obtained at their official website www. nabi203.com.
