Long Beach, CA (PRWEB) October 6, 2005
Long Beach, CA, October 4 -- (MDTV®) – The Women’s Dermatologic Society (WDS) promotes "Sun Safety" education through its 15-city national tour "Families Play Safe in the Sun" designed to increase awareness about skin cancer prevention, made possible by a 1 million dollar grant recently awarded by the 3M Foundation.
Reaching out to different communities across the United States, WDS encourages, educates, and empowers people of all ages to make "Sun Safety" a way of life. "Families Play Safe in the Sun" responds to the urgent need for greater awareness about skin cancer prevention, in light of the American Cancer Society projection that one American dies every 68 minutes from melanoma, and other alarming statistics.
The WDS will be offering free skin cancer screenings, educational materials, and dynamic sun protection activities to convention attendees on Thursday, October 27th at the 2005 California Governor and First Lady’s Conference on Women and Families located at 300 East Ocean Boulevard. The WDS will also be offering these "Sun Safety" items to the public on Friday and Saturday, October 28th and 29th from 9am-4pm at the Aquarium of the Pacific located at 100 Aquarium Way in Long Beach, California (the third city in the 15-city national tour).
