History Center Seeks Music Memorbilia for New Exhibit to Open in September

The Orange County Regional History Center is asking local residents to donate music and sports industry-related items to its collections for display in its new “Orlando Remembered” exhibit to debut this September. The exhibit will feature everyday items from Orlando’s past, ranging from clothing and toys and household items and tools, as well as advertisements, photographs, posters and publications.

ORLANDO, Fla. (PRWEB) July 25, 2005

On the heels of bestowing the first annual John Young History Maker Award, the Historical Society of Central Florida has opened nominations for the 2006 award.

The John Young History Maker Award, named after the astronaut and presented to him in a May 26 ceremony, is given each year to a Central Floridian whose lifetime of achievement has made an historic impact on the community.

“There are many among us who have made a positive and lasting difference in Central Florida. We’re asking those who recognize their achievements to submit a nomination so we can consider these great citizens for this honor,” said Sara Van Arsdel, Executive Director for The History Center.

While there is no required length for nominations, a thorough account and timeline of the nomineeÂ’s accomplishments should be given along with any additional material that may shed further light on those accomplishments Van Arsdel said. Nominations are due August 30, 2005 and should be submitted to The History Center (attn: John Young History Maker Award) 65 East Central boulevard, Orlando, Fl. 32801.

The second annual John Young History Maker Award will be given during a gala celebration at The Orange County Regional History Center on Thursday May 25, 2006. Funds raised from this annual event help in part to help construct world-class exhibits and to fund The History CenterÂ’s many educational programs which reach 30,000 children and countless adults in the community each year.
