Introducing: SUCCESS...IN ENTERING THE WORKPLACE - an employability education series that is DIFFERENT

Introducing: SUCCESS...IN ENTERING THE WORKPLACE - an employability education series that is DIFFERENT

(PRWEB) November 22, 1999

This five-module series was created by teachers. It targets students

From Grades Nine to Adult Education who run the gamut of skills, abilities,

Attitudes, socio-economic status, experience and behaviours.

What is DIFFERENT? Three things:

SEW zeroes in on the “invisible customs and protocol of the

Workplace: the things that aren’t on a job description or in a company handbook. People lose jobs because they don’t have a clue about the “invisible”

Things like being organized, keeping their personal lives private, staying that

Extra few minutes to finish up, recognizing when to keep their mouths shut,

Staying clear of “gripe groups”, knowing when their “rights” are out

Of line. The series is short on theory and heavy on the practical items

That make people hirable or fire-able.

SEW uses real-life scenarios of occupations that require little or no

Post-secondary education. Many of our students donÂ’t become lawyers,

Accountants and engineers. They want to drive truck, work at the

Hardware store, fall trees, cashier, operate a skidder or wait tables. Many

Of the existing resources donÂ’t address these jobs, and if they do, they are

Generally “special education” resources. Now, that’s a subtle

Message!

SEW binders contain hundreds of reproducible activities that use plain

Language and are to-the-point. In addition, there are hundreds more

Teaching suggestions that allow you to tailor programs to meet a wide

Range of needs. Parent course information packages are ready to go.

The five modules are Job Preparation, The Planning Project, The

Proactivity Project, Job Maintenance and Personal Safety Management.

The first three are available now; the last two will be out in February,

2000.

I encourage you to check out this series on our website. You will

Find the material useful for all sorts of kids because itÂ’s based on the

“assume nothing” approach: there’s far more to keeping a job than resumes,

Application forms and interviews.
