Exciting Family Event Makes Its Debut for the 2003 Summer Season at Filoli

Classic convertibles, ice cream sundaes, and music under the sun at historic Woodside estate

(PRWEB) June 20, 2003

Woodside, Calif., June 2, 2003 --- The joy of the perennial bloom, children’s carefree laughter, and a relaxed drive in an old convertible brings to mind the wonderful, cheerful months of summer. The essence of this anticipated season is captured when Filoli, one of America’s greatest treasures, hosts its new event, “Summer at Filoli: A Family Celebration,” on June 28, 2003 from 10:00 AM-3:30 PM.

“This event creates a wonderful opportunity for friends and family to gather in a beautiful, relaxed setting and enjoy spending time together,” noted Bob French, chairman of the event at Filoli. Experience the arrival of summer by visiting the European-inspired gardens with an outstanding display of over 500 roses and a colorful palette of perennial flowers. Listen to uplifting, summertime music being preformed throughout the garden. Or, visit the courtyard and take advantage of a photo opportunity in front of a characteristic, woody station wagon or a collectorÂ’s convertible.

A diversity of activities will be available ranging from hands-on scrapbooking workshops in the front courtyard, herb-flavored vinegar demonstrations in the kitchen pantry, and flavored ice tea tastings in the VisitorÂ’s Center, to fun pastimes for the children, such as juggling performances and puppeteer shows in the ballroom, a baby animal petting zoo in the front courtyard, and storytelling get-togethers in the family room.

Other areas of the estate are ready for the celebration as well. Volunteers from FiloliÂ’s Home Floral Design committee will demonstrate how to create beautiful party arrangements for outdoor entertaining. And to compliment summertime celebration, FiloliÂ’s Garden Shop, a one-of-a-kind gift store, will be open

And filled with a selection of seasonal merchandise perfect for backyard gatherings and 4th of July parties. The Filoli Nature Education docents will be on hand with informational displays illustrating FiloliÂ’s hiking and outdoors programs. As a final touch, the Friends of Filoli and Sterling Libraries, located upstairs in the main mansion, will be open to guests.

Admissions are $15 for adults, $1 for children 2-12, and free for children under 2. Barbecue picnic lunches featuring either chicken or flavorful sausages for adults, and hot dogs or hamburgers for children, will be prepared on the grill and available for $15 and $8, respectively.
