Platinum Television Group is pleased to announce the selection of Biophan Technologies, Inc. for its innovative, educational television series, Business and Beyond. The company will be featured in a segment on “Under Valued, Under Followed, Hidden Gems” in the Opportunities Series.

Biophan Technologies develops technology to make implanted, surgical, and diagnostic biomedical devices safe, reducing the interference that these devices cause to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) image quality.

The company has partnered with Boston Scientific Corporation and NASA to develop many of the successful technologies and solutions for biomedical devices. Biophan features rapid innovation in medical technology through these highly networked and productive partnerships and has developed a portfolio of 38 issued and 9 allowed patents, in addition to 93 applications in process.

Today, many devices such as pacemakers and surgical devices are not useable with MRI due to safety concerns involved with the environment. Some of these concerns include heating of devices and metal wire leads, which can ultimately cause tissue damage, and movement of the device that can affect its performance. Most MRI imaging centers refuse to allow pacemaker patients, and those with other implanted medical devices, to undergo an MRI procedure due to the complications. Since MRI is one of the most important diagnostic tools in medicine, it is crucial to create medical devices that do not interfere with MRI image quality.

Biophan has developed safety solutions that apply to a wide variety of medical devices that currently have limited compatibility with MRI, including pacemaker and neurostimulator leads, stents, guidewires and catheters. The company offers shielding solutions that use proprietary technologies including thin-film nanomagnetic coatings, carbon-composite coatings, novel shield designs, and unique filtering technologies.

Biophan has also created a ceramic motor called the Squiggle™, with only four parts that use rotary and linear motion. In addition, the company has developed other technologies such as a biothermal power supply that generates electricity from waste body heat, and a contrast agent to enhance the visibility of tissues when imaged under MRI.

Biophan is at the top of the market because of its introducing commercial products via joint ventures and licensing agreements with major companies, and establishing products as the standard of care.
