College’s Athletic Training Program Professor Earns Educator of Year Honors
George Fox University’s Dale Isaak honored as top athletic trainer educator in five-state region by Northwest Athletic Trainers’ Association

George Fox University earned yet another teaching honor with the announcement that Dale Isaak, the university’s head athletic trainer and a professor in the school’s athletic training major (http://www. georgefox. edu/college-admissions/academics/major/athletic-training. html), earned the Northwest Athletic Trainers’ Association’s Educator of the Year honor for 2010.
The award is given to the top athletic training educator in the collegiate, high school and clinical sectors for NWATA District 10, which encompasses more than 1,200 athletic trainers in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Alaska. NWATA is the regional affiliate of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.
Isaak, 41, was presented the award at the NWATA’s yearly symposium in Spokane, Wash., on March 27.
“I’m obviously honored, but I see this award more as recognition for what we do in our athletic training education program than as an individual award,” Isaak said. “This validates the work we’re doing here as a university. I believe we received this because of the quality of our alumni working throughout the Northwest.”
George Fox is one of just three institutions of higher education in Oregon that offers an athletic training program accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Athletic Training Education programs, a national accrediting body.
Isaak divides his time evenly between his duties as head athletic trainer and professor. Among the courses he teaches are therapeutic exercise, care and prevention of athletic injuries, and general medical conditions in athletic training.
The Wilsonville, Ore., resident arrived at George Fox in 1995 after earning a master’s in education from the University of Minnesota that same year. Previously, he earned a master’s degree in athletic training from Indiana State University in 1991 and a bachelor’s degree from Willamette University in 1990.
His honor continues a string of teaching awards for George Fox this year. In January, Patrick Vandehey, director of the university’s band and music education major (http://www. georgefox. edu/college-admissions/academics/major/music-education. html) programs, was named Oregon Music Educator of the Year by the Oregon Music Educators Association.
In addition, George Fox’s Rhett Luedtke, an associate professor of theatre, was one of just eight faculty members chosen nationally to receive a National Directing Fellow Award from the John F. Kennedy Center. He will travel to Washington, D. C., this month to take part in the National Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival.
