SACRAMENTO, California - May 1, 2002 - Webcasting company SEQUOIACOM announced today that audio presentations from the recent Digital Divides conference and the UC Davis CONNECT Most Innovative New Products Awards banquet are now available on the Internet.

"SEQUOIACOM is proud to have served as the official webcaster for these prestigious events," said SEQUOIACOM president David Edwards. "By posting and archiving these presentations to the Internet, SEQUOIACOM and the events' organizers hope to reach hundreds of listeners from the region who could not attend the live presentations. These events demonstrate the long-term value of webcasting audio streams using low-cost technology."

The Digital Divides Conference

The Pacific Regional Humanities Center's Digital Divides conference was held at the University of California, Davis, on April 25-27, 2002, and featured discussions of how digital information technologies are changing work, play, education, and thinking.

SEQUOIACOM recorded and archived high-profile Digital Divides presentations, including April 25 keynote speaker Michael Rogers, VP, Editor & General Manager of Newsweek. MSNBC. com. Speakers on April 26 included technohumanist-at-large Anne Balsamo; Megan Gaiser, CEO, and Robert Riedl, director of product development, at Her Interactive; Harrison "Lee" Rainie, director of The Pew Internet and American Life Project, and Richard Chabran, director of Communities for Virtual Research. SEQUOIACOM concluded its webcasts on April 27 with Randy Nelson, dean of Pixar University of Pixar Studios.

Jack Hicks, Digital Divides organizer and director of digital initiatives at the Pacific Regional Humanities Center at UC Davis, said webcasting with audiocast and Powerpoint presentations, was "natural" for the conference. "The multiplier effect," Hicks said, "is far beyond what I imagined, and Sequoiacom is bold proof of the power of digital technology to reach new audiences daily and exponentially to dramatic effect."
