PLYMOUTH, Mass., Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- On Friday, February 6, 2009, Plymouth Rock Studios, a $500 million film and television studio based in Plymouth, Massachusetts, reached another milestone when the October 27, 2008 Plymouth Town Meeting vote creating a new zoning overlay district for the proposed project was approved by the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office.
Plymouth Town Meeting Members were asked in October to approve a new "Movie and Entertainment Production Overlay District (MEPOD)" and a Tax Increment Financing Agreement (TIF) for the proposed Project. In both instances, the town meeting articles were approved by an overwhelming majority.
In approving the MEPOD, the Attorney General's Office stated, "The proposed by-law establishes an overlay district in which a Movie and Entertainment Production Studio Development is allowed as of right subject to site plan review." The TIF agreement was certified by the Commonwealth earlier this year.
The studio will have 14 soundstages and a 10-acre back lot, plus production offices, post- production facilities, a theater, hotel, and an amenity village.
