7 Summits, $100,000,000.00
A non-profit organization Climbing 4 the Cure* has announced its plans to raise $100,000,000.00 (One Hundred Million Dollars) for cancer research, charities, awareness and education programs. The Group will be attempting to climb the coveted 7 summits, or highest point on each continent, in record time.

The expedition members will include Rob Burns, Ken Burns, Josh Grossman and Scott Woolums. Along with team physician Dr. Steven Grossman, they will set out January 1 to reach the summit of Antarctica's Mt. Vinson Massif, and complete their quest by reaching climbing Denali's Alaskan summit by July, 2005. This will put the expedition on course for completing this amazing goal and the existing record in 160 +/- days, 59 days shorter than the previous record held by the late Rob Hall.
The main goal and inspiration of the team is to raise $100,000,000.00 for cancer research, charities, education and awareness campaigns. The attempt to set this new climbing record is secondary to achieving such a landmark monetary summit. By infusing such huge sum of money into the success of cancer research and treatment, perhaps the lives of the 1,500,000 Americans a year now afflicted can be saved. The passion for such success is carried in the hearts and souls of each one of our expedition members, as they like so many families, have all been personally devastated by the wrath of cancer.
The 7 Summits are the highest points on each continent:
Everest in Tibet at 29029 feet;
Acongcagua in Argentina at 22840 feet;
Denali in Alaska at 20320 feet;
Kilimanjaro in Tanzania at 19339 feet;
Elbrus in Russia at 18481 feet;
Vinson Massif in Antarctica at 16067 feet;
Carstensz Pyramid at 16023 feet is to be replaced by Mount Kosciuszko in Australia thought as the "eighth summit" as the Carstensz Pyramid has been closed to climbers due to political turmoil within the region.
These Summits, though not technical, are known for their extreme weather and altitude. Due to these environmental issues and the heavy financial burden, less than 100 people have set foot on all seven.
