California Greenworks, Inc. gives south Los Angeles residents a green way to get rid of old TV sets, phones and computers, and other ways to improve the environmental health of the community at the 3rd Annual South Los Angeles Earth Day on April 19, 2008.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 9, 2008
The South Los Angeles Earth Day continues into its third year. California Greenworks, Inc. presents a variety of opportunities for South Los Angeles residents to learn about environmentally safe and sustainable products and services available in the community. At the festival, products and services will be highlighted in a variety of earth-friendly pavilions.
The E-Waste Recycling pavilion will highlight a recycling service for electronic waste. Anyone can donate old televisions, computers, laptops, cell phones and any electronic device with a CRT screen. California Greenworks, Inc. will recycle the items with proceeds benefiting initiatives such as the Compton Creek Environmental Justice Project as well as environmental education programs, open space preservation and beautification projects in South Los Angeles.
Nationwide, environmentally themed events mark the celebration of Earth Day in late April. The 2008 South Los Angeles Earth Day will focus on important issues that impact urban, densely populated communities. Issues include reducing CO2 emissions entering into the atmosphere and creating poor air quality and global climate change, increasing an awareness of the environmental causes of poor health among urban children and practical ways to improve the environmental health of an urban community. Poor air and water quality are serious environmental health issues in urban communities across the nation. 123,000,000 youth in the U. S. are at risk to contracting asthma or obtaining some other respiratory disease from poor air quality.
"The health of our environment is directly related to the health of our children. This year in South Los Angeles the Earth Day festivities will integrate environmental education with products, services and programs that are available within the community. We are hoping to get everyone involved in improving the environmental health of our community," says California Greenworks, Inc. founder Mike Meador.
The official theme of the 3rd Annual South Los Angeles Earth Day is "A Greener and Healthier South Los Angeles for Our Community, Our Environment and Our Future". Actor Comedian Rodney Perry will take the stage and host the 3rd Annual South Los Angeles Earth Day Festival on the Echoing Green Global Stage, sponsored by Union Bank of California and Toyota. During an all day raffle, Wicked, now playing at the Pantages in Hollywood, will give tickets away to lucky festival goers to see the Los Angeles showing of the popular musical. The 2008 South Los Angeles Earth Day will be held on Saturday April 19, 2008 from 10:00 a. m. - 6:00 p. m. at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza located at 3650 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, in the historic Crenshaw district of Los Angeles, CA.
