Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) August 30, 2009

While the economic news may have consumers watching every penny, older adults can have confidence that when they spend their time at free Active Aging Week events sponsored by Parc Communities they will have fun, learn a little and likely find ways to save money.

Active Aging Week, the annual health promotion event of the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA), will be held September 21-25, 2009 at Parc Communities' four Atlanta retirement communities (http://www. parccommunities. com/?campaign=Aug09). As firm believers that everyone can live life fully no matter what their age, Parc is proud to open it's independent living communities to host a noteworthy series of health fairs, wellness seminars, cooking classes, humorist performances, dance classes, brain fitness demonstrations, strength & balance training, water aerobics, lunch-and-learn presentations, wii competitions, yoga and tai-chi demonstrations, functional fitness classes and inspirational speakers. Events will culminate in the Grand Passport Ball dance Friday evening at Parc at Buckhead.

"Attending an Active Aging Week event is a stimulus package you give yourself," points out Angela Butler-Hackett, Corporate Wellness Director for Parc Communities. "You benefit immediately, and there are no strings attached! A growing body of research concludes that older adults who are physically active, socially connected and intellectually involved have fewer chronic diseases, are less likely to experience dementia and live longer."

Older adults who join in during Active Aging Week activities meet new people and get to try out physical and intellectual activities and games. They also are likely to find that local donors and sponsors may be giving away discounts, coupons and prizes.

"It's no secret that the better you feel, the more money you save in healthcare costs," observes Butler-Hackett. "And you save yourself and your family a lot of stress. As people age, their health becomes more important to them. The events organized across the country during Active Aging Week provide the resources older adults can use to enjoy a healthier, happier life."

As the Atlanta-area sponsor for Active Aging Week, Parc Communities will be hosting a full slate of exciting events at its Atlanta retirement communities during the week of September 21, including health fairs at Parc at Duluth - Johns Creek on September 23 and at Parc at Piedmont - East Cobb on September 24. This exciting week will conclude with Parc's "Passport Ball", featuring an evening of dancing and entertainment September 25 at Parc at Buckhead.
