Georgetown Art Gallery Reopens Doors for a Special Cause
Fine Art & Artists Gallery to wrap up two-month benefit for Duke Ellington School of the Arts with March 24 Grand Reopening celebration.

Ever think about expanding your investment portfolio to include a work of art? According to Fine Art & Artists Gallery and the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, the time couldn't be better. The two organizations recently launched a fundraising campaign to give new meaning to an art purchase at the Georgetown gallery. Between now and March 24th, a percentage of every sale will be donated directly to the Duke Ellington Fund, which goes to support programs at the DC public school.
The 'Fine Art for Education' campaign will officially wrap up with a special Art Open House and Grand Reopening--free and open to the public--on Saturday, March 24, at 7:00pm to celebrate the success of the campaign, and feature the latest works of their artists--including Steve Penley, Ray Charles White and Emily Christenson. "We take great pride in supporting our community, and after having spent the past year and a half refurbishing our gallery, we are thrilled to reintroduce ourselves to the Greater DC community, while supporting a cause very close to our hearts," noted gallery proprietor, Brian Benavides.
On the evening of the Gallery's Grand Reopening, members of the Duke Ellington School community, neighbors and friends will come together to celebrate the success of this very special campaign. The evening will include live musical entertainment by Ellington students, discussions and signings by a number of featured artists, a silent auction featuring a portrait of Duke Ellington--commissioned specifically for this campaign, and painted by renowned artist Steve Penley--and a last chance to donate towards the campaign with an art purchase of your own.
The Grand Reopening event will also feature a variety of artists currently on exhibit at the Gallery, including Ray Charles White, Emily Christenson and Bernard Cohen.
As part of the DC public school system, the Duke Ellington School of the Arts was designed to nurture and inspire a passion for arts and learning in talented students who might not otherwise have an opportunity to develop their artistic skills. The school ensures that their students are prepared for post-secondary education and/or careers in the arts by offering an intensive arts-based program and a strong focus on community service.
Fine Art & Artists opened its doors in 1990 and quickly built an international reputation as one of the preeminent Pop and Contemporary art galleries in Washington D. C. Benavides joined the Gallery in 2003, after an already accomplished career working for some of the most established galleries in the metropolitan area, and in 2004, purchased Fine Art & Artists Gallery. Benavides, along with Gallery Director Malvika Paddock, has designed an inviting and innovative art space reflecting his expertise, experience and passion for the arts.
Located in the "bright yellow building" on M Street, Fine Art & Artists features three floors of paintings, photography and sculpture by artists such as Susanna Bluhm, Emily Christenson and Steve Penley, as well as works by some of the premier Pop and Contemporary artists including Roy Lichtenstein, Alexander Calder and Claus Oldenburg.
