X Media Lab Sweden to Reveal New Business Strategies in Digital Media

X Media Lab, has announced that Sweden will host its first Lab for 2011 “X Media Lab: Location Based Services” which will a focus on the latest frontier of digital media - the physical world. This is in no small part due to the fact that some of the most cutting-edge digital media practitioners are emerging from Nordic countries.

The way in which we see our place in the world is changing, as we embrace the new functionalities that hand-held devices, particularly smart phones, provide. As we ‘Google Map’ our way around the world, a whole new set of Location Based Services are becoming available.

Identifying these services, and understanding how digital media professionals can embrace and leverage them, will be the focus of X Media Lab Sweden in January 2011.

Southern Sweden has over 35,000 professionals working in the areas of innovative game design, new media and smart handheld devices. It is an acknowledged hot-spot for digital innovation.

X Media Lab Sweden is being held at its heart, Malmo, and the event comprises two parts, the Conference Day on 21 January, and the Lab which takes place on 22-23 January.

The event will encompass a wide range of strategies that can be embraced by all traditional and digital media professionals, including those who are involved in producing interactive media content - virtual worlds, social media, interactive television and education industries.

In fact, Mark Ollila, Director, X Media Solutions, Media & Games for Nokia believes that “XML is the premier event in media innovation across cultures”.

Conference

The Conference is set to explore international media business opportunities and the latest technological and business innovations in developing Location Based Services (LBS) for global markets. Of particular interest will be the sessions that explore how to integrate positioning and proximity into the burgeoning digital media and games arenas.

According to CEO of the Nordic Games Institute, Sten Selander “X Media Lab Sweden will bring together the specialists who will undoubtedly create and deliver future Location Based Services solutions to the games industry.”

Lab

The Lab is an intensive creative ideas and mentoring environment where selected project teams and media companies are able to work directly on their own project ideas, with mentoring by the world’s best digital media experts.

Lab participation has been shown to improve the chances of bringing an idea to market. It also provides unparalleled opportunities to network with international media stars and entrepreneurs with the expertise that can help ensure a project’s commercial success.

“Our Labs have provided the opportunity for individuals and businesses to commercialize their creativity” explains Megan Elliott, X Media Lab Director. “In receiving the mentorship of our Labs’ digital mavens, participants have been able to grasp and implement cutting-edge concepts that lead to commercial breakthroughs.”

X Media Lab Sweden will explore the reality of how connected and location-aware innovations are impacting business, communities and governments. Their potential to radically transform social interactions, and entire industries will be revealed, along with, importantly, ways of monetizing associated platforms and services.
