Pat Tillman Foundation Appoints New Member to Board of Directors

Joe Browne, Senior Advisor to the National Football League Commissioner joins Pat Tillman Foundation Board of Directors

The Pat Tillman Foundation is pleased to announce the addition of Joe Browne, Senior Advisor to the National Football League Commissioner, to the Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Mr. Browne joins current members Marie Tillman, Chair; Chris Hart, Vice Chair and Director’s Michael Bidwill, Alex Garwood, Benjamin Hill, Sean Moriarty, Carolyn Pendergast and Ian Sacks.

Browne was named Senior Advisor to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in April 2010. Browne is focused on Congressional and political issues in Washington as well as local legislation in NFL markets. He also continues to manage the league’s philanthropic and youth football endeavors.

Browne is the longest serving employee ever at NFL headquarters. He is a member of the NFL’s executive team and reports directly to Commissioner Goodell. Browne was appointed the NFL’s first-ever Vice President by then-Commissioner Paul Tagliabue in April, 1990. He was promoted to Senior Vice President in 1995 and Executive Vice President in 2002.

Browne joined the League office as a college intern in 1965. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Browne became a full-time employee in 1970 and was named to several key front office posts by then-Commissioner Pete Rozelle over the next 20 years.

In addition to the Pat Tillman Foundation, Browne is on the Board of Directors for USA Football and the NFL Youth Football Fund. He also is staff director for NFL Charities, the league’s national charitable foundation. Browne recently completed a six year term on the national Board of Governors for the United Way of America.

Browne was born in New York and was the first scholarship basketball player at Archbishop Molloy High School in Queens, New York where he is a member of his alma mater’s Hall of Fame. He is a graduate of St. Francis College in Brooklyn Heights, New York.

The Pat Tillman Foundation is a national leader in providing educational support and resources to veterans, active servicemembers and their dependents. The Tillman Military Scholars program aids all veterans, specifically the ever-growing population of veterans and dependents of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.
