Health At Every Size News for October 2006

Health At Every Size News for October 2006

Current news and events from experts of Health At Every Size, a weight-neutral approach to good health that focuses on behavior, not BMI.

Bowling Green, OH (PRWEB) October 4, 2006

Yahoo! is the first major internet provider to strike a blow for fat civil rights online. Groups that work for an end to weight-based discrimination have long used Yahoo! Groups for internet-based community building. These communications have been interrupted by weight-loss ads that are anathema to our health beliefs and civil rights purpose. In Health At Every Size, we recognize that weight-loss goals lead to poor nutrition and exercise habits, weight cycling (losing and regaining), eating disorders, and other health risks. Instead, we focus on enjoying health-enhancing habits (like good nutrition and regular exercise) for their own sake.

Love Your Body Day

The 9th annual Love Your Body Day is October 18. Love Your Body Day was created in 1998 by NOW (National Organization of Women) Foundation’s Women’s Health Project as “a national day of action to speak out against advertisements and images of women that are harmful, offensive, disrespectful and demeaning.” Love Your Body Day activities promote a positive body image and encourage women to love and celebrate their bodies. Health practitioners with a Health At Every Size philosophy have embraced this event as a day to plan an activity that shows the relationship between good health and loving your body.
