Consonus President Elected to Board of Directors at Kramden Institute

Bob McCarthy Committed to Helping North Carolina Based Charitable Organization Provide Refurbished Computers for Economically Disadvantaged Children

Cary, North Carolina (Vocus/PRWEB) January 12, 2011

Consonus President Bob McCarthy was recently elected to the Board of Directors at Kramden Institute, Inc., a 501c3 charitable organization whose mission is to empower economically disadvantaged students by giving them home computers that have been refurbished by volunteers.

“Bob’s extensive technology experience and affiliation with Consonus is a great fit for Kramden,” said Chairman of the Board and Co-Founder of Kramden Institute Mark Dibner. “We are excited to have Bob join the Board and look forward to his involvement in driving Kramden forward as we continue to grow and expand nationally.”

Kramden Institute is one of many charitable organizations supported by Consonus and a prime example of their commitment to good corporate citizenship. Consonus employee donations and corporate contributions have included: American Heart Association, Efforts for Haiti, Raleigh, NC Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, Share Our Shoes, and numerous local education and community projects.

“I am very pleased to become a member of the Kramden Board,” said McCarthy. “I believe that Consonus has an opportunity to make a significant contribution to Kramden Institute — it’s a perfect fit for us. As a technology company, Consonus has the resources and capabilities to support efforts that further Kramden’s mission.”

In 2011, Consonus is planning to host a Geek-a-Thon® event that brings together numerous volunteers to refurbish computers. Using a streamlined process perfected by Kramden, volunteers work to restore computers, getting them ready to donate to deserving students. Typically, 60% of the volunteers are adults and have a technology background. The remainder are students from the community.

Originally a small father-son project in the basement of a Durham, North Carolina home, Kramden Institute now has over 3,600 volunteers, generous donors, and thousands of corporate and personal equipment contributions that help hundreds of students receive computers each year. Recipients are awarded computers via a nomination process that offers principals, teachers, guidance councillors, and school social workers an opportunity to recognize hardworking students in need.
