On May 18th, more than 100 people will gather together for the Naked Development Forum at Serenbe in Atlanta, Georgia to kick off the first-ever open source design of a village, but thousands more will participate online at www. kaluyala. com in a grassroots and viral effort to change the world of real estate development. Through continual blog postings, video content and image uploads, Twitter and Facebook discussions, this event will come to life on the website for all to see.
This transparent and collaborative effort will utilize input from innovative leaders in organic farming, finance, sustainable architecture, community design, future residents of Kalu Yala and the online audience. The result is a living community model, able to evolve in response to the demands of its visitors and residents, and driven by social, environmental and economic purpose.
Through near live web updates, visitors to the Kalu Yala website will witness a continuous influx of content directly from the Naked Development Forum. Onsite technical experts will be releasing content regularly throughout the day with only a slight delay, including a variety of blog entries from attendees engaged in the conversation, video of the renowned speaker presentations, tweeting updates, pictures, and small interview clips from the day’s event. This will all be disseminated via www. kaluyala. com in conjunction with other social media services. This ongoing trickle of information will enable the participation of anyone interested in participating in the event without their actual attendance.

The May 18th Naked Development Forum will take place at Serenbe, a renowned Atlanta community that has become known for its sustainability practices and design. On May 18th, our goal is to raise awareness of these global issues and to begin to seek the solutions to creating a new model which can lead to more sustainable communities, ecologies and economics that can be applied not only to our work at Kalu Yala, but also to communities which already exist and those which have yet to be conceived.
This will be the first of several events to take place over the next eight months that will serve to define the community of Kalu Yala. The collected intelligence from this first meeting of the minds will seed the subsequent Naked Development forums. Each forum will focus on specific and relevant topics; the next is planned for August in Panama and will discuss planning for organic farming at Kalu Yala.
