Boston, MA (PRWEB) September 21, 2009

Explorica, a company creating educational tours that connect students to new cultures, languages and people, today announced the Explorica Treasure Hunt Challenge (http://www. explorica. com/treasure-hunt. aspx), a program that will provide $100,000 to schools for the development of experiential learning programs. Through the challenge, up to ten tour groups can take part in global treasure hunts that offer Explorica's interactive learning experience, coupled with one-of-a-kind programs designed to stimulate an immersive travel experience.

Student tour groups that partake in the treasure hunt challenge are eligible to win $10,000 for the creation of new hands-on, experiential learning opportunities for their school. Each customized treasure hunt will require students to complete challenges and answer clues on the region before and during the tour. Whether ordering gelato in Italian from a Roman street vendor, taking a glass-blowing class in Venice or studying shipping routes while enjoying a boat ride down the Seine on a warm evening, groups will receive points for each completed activity and correctly answered clue.

The Treasure Hunt Challenge is an immersive experience for students beginning the instant tours are booked by utilizing social media and online tools, such as Twitter and Facebook. Students can share information, learn about their destinations, publish content, and stay connected with those at home while traveling. All of these activities allow students to remain fully engaged at each stage of the travel experience and also unlock points that start students on their quest to meet the Explorica challenge and earn their schools $10,000.

"The Treasure Hunt Challenge has scores of rewards. Teachers get to stimulate interest in school related topics, students become immersed in the thrill of the hunt, and schools benefit with $10,000 to support a special initiative," said Olle Olsson, President and CEO of Explorica. "This program rewards students for actively participating in and learning about new cultures, and it gives them the opportunity to experience the region in a way that blows away the average sightseeing tour."

Tour dates for Explorica Treasure Hunt Challenges in summer 2010 are selected by the teacher/group leader, providing flexibility for schools to best incorporate the educational tour into the students' curriculum.
