Port Townsend, WA (PRWEB) March 20, 2006

4-H News (http://4-hnews. blogspot. com (http://4-hnews. blogspot. com)), a new 4-H Podcast Video Blogging Club in Jefferson County, Washington produced "Johnny-on-the-spot" video coverage of the 2006 American Red Cross Olympic Peninsula Chapter disaster training exercise that was held on Wednesday, March Fifteenth, at the Washington State University Extension in Port Hadlock. The report was published the following day on the Port Townsend & Jefferson County Leader newspaper's website: http://www. ptleader. com/main. asp? SectionID=70 (http://www. ptleader. com/main. asp? SectionID=70)

March is Red Cross Month.

4-H News Reporter, Daniel Bryant, interviewed David Stanko, Public Information Officer of the American Red Cross Olympic Peninsula Chapter. The report reviewed the organization's full day of activities that simulated emergency response actions that would be taken if there was a massive fire that burned down 50 homes in the nearby community of Irondale. The thirteen year old correspondent then edited the exclusive coverage using Apple's "Final Cut Pro" software program and published the in-depth three minute news piece on YouTube, a free video sharing web community: http://youtube. com/watch? v=7qQa7yZCHjE (http://youtube. com/watch? v=7qQa7yZCHjE)

"The 4-H News program is a fine example of youth leading the way with new communication technologies," states Pamela Roberts, Jefferson County, WA 4-H Coordinator. "We are excited about the educational potential of video blogging and increasing public access to information on demand."

"Last week the Olympic Peninsula Red Cross held a three day disaster exercise in conjunction with National Red Cross facilitators." explains Phyllis Darling, Olympic Peninsula Red Cross, "The purpose of the exercise -- called Chapter Disaster Review, Exercise and Evaluation -- or CDREE -- was to determine how prepared the Olympic Peninsula Chapter is to respond to a Level II emergency involving the destruction by wildfire of 50 houses in the Irondale area. The CDREE involved a call-out of all disaster volunteers, the location and set-up of a shelter, provision of food, clothing, medication and basic needs for approximately 50 families, and communication with fire, police and the Jefferson County Emergency Management Office."
