Washington, DC (PRWEB) October 18, 2010

The Consumer Driven Healthcare Institute (CDHCI), the leading source for education, research, and information about consumer-driven healthcare, today announced results from its Q2’10 Consumer Driven Healthcare (CDHC) Market Data Advisory, which showed that in Q2’10 total accounts administered in Individual and Family Health Savings Account (HSA) programs accelerated their rate of growth over Q1’10. Individual HSA programs on average grew six percent quarter-over-quarter, up from four percent in Q1’10; and Family HSA programs on average grew five percent quarter-over-quarter, up from four percent in Q1’10.

“Following the passage of healthcare reform in Q1’10, consumer adoption of both individual and family health savings accounts again began to accelerate,” said Steve Parente, PhD, Professor, Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota and CDHCI Academic Advisory Board Chair. “As healthcare deductibles continue to rise and consumers become increasingly responsible for out-of-pocket healthcare costs, we believe this trend will continue with consumers seeking ways to maximize their pre-tax dollars for use in current and future health-related spending and investment.”

The CDHC Market Data Advisory provides critical market data on a quarterly basis on growth in HSA balances, along with details into HSA account characteristics, HSA spending, and health investment accounts. The CDHC Market Data Advisory also provides a quarterly Policy Synopsis on legislation impacting the CDHC industry. Additional findings from the Q2’10 CDHC Market Data Advisory showed employers on average contributing 152 dollars each month into individual HSAs and 160 dollars into family HSAs. Employees, on average, contributed 174 dollars each month into individual HSAs, and 302 dollars into family HSAs.
