Colorado Cosmetic Surgeon Completes 1,000th Free Facial Surgery in Vietnam

A Colorado cosmetic surgeon recently completed his 15th trip to Vietnam with his Christian medical relief non-profit organization, Face The Challenge, and had the honor of performing his 1,000th free facial surgery on a young Cambodian woman.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) August 8, 2007

For many people in developing countries such as Vietnam, even things like basic medical care can be a luxury. If a child is born with a facial deformity such as a cleft lip, or a young man is injured while riding a motorcycle, they often live with their deformities and injuries for the remainder of their lives. This can have serious ramifications on the person and their family.

One Colorado cosmetic surgeon set out 14 years ago to help change that situation. Randolph C. Robinson, MD, DDS, founder of Park Meadows Cosmetic Surgery, created Face The Challenge as a way of helping those less fortunate. And on May 2 - 13, 2007, Dr Robinson completed his 15th trip to Vietnam, a trip he had been looking forward to for a long time.

"I've always been proud and honored to bring Face The Challenge into developing countries, and offer needed services to these communities," stated Dr Robinson. "This trip was especially meaningful to me because with were able to help our 1,000th patient. Knowing the difference we made in her life, and to all the lives of each and every patient we've seen over the past 14 years is truly a humbling experience."

Face the Challenge is a Christian medical relief non-profit organization that Dr. Robinson, along with his wife Ginger Robinson RN, BSN, founded in 1993. The goal of this mission was to provide surgeries with an emphasis on Cranio-maxillofacial trauma and orthognathic (jaw) surgeries for people that would otherwise live life without correction, and to help train Vietnamese surgeons for future growth.

Dr. Robinson, Ms. Robinson, and seven other team members worked continuously throughout their 10-day trip, provided medical attention to 22 patients, and education to people within the community. They performed a variety of surgeries at the two main maxillofacial hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City, and provided educational opportunities to the Vietnamese surgical staff, sharing ideas in the areas of facial trauma, care for the patient during anesthesia, artificial jaw joint (TMJ) surgeries, and use of the Harmonic (ultrasonic) Scalpel.

"Helping not only the patients, but also educating the medical staff allows us to give back in so many ways," stated Dr. Robinson. "It's nice to know that long after we're gone, our gifts will be shared with many people over the coming years."
