McCall, ID (PRWEB) March 4, 2004 -

– Mill Park Publishing of McCall announces the publication of a fun and educational book for Idaho children, parents, teachers and caregivers. The Magic Potato – La Papa Mágica is a story and coloring book written in English and Spanish.

The read-out-loud story describes the adventures of children who ride around Idaho on a magic, flying potato named Russet. The 20-page book includes original illustrations for children to color. The text includes days of the week, numbers, colors and key words in both languages. Direct from the publisher, the retail cost of the book is $2.95, and discounts are available for wholesalers and bulk orders.

Bilingual education is a statewide and national priority as the Hispanic population continues to grow. According to U. S. Census Bureau estimates, the Hispanic population increased nearly 20 percent in certain areas of Idaho from 2000 to 2002. The Kaiser Foundation notes that almost 9 percent of the Idaho population is Hispanic.

“Mill Park Publishing is focused on encouraging all children to read,” said Michael Romano, publisher. “This new activity book will be enjoyed many times as students, parents, teachers and caregivers read, learn and color together.”

Mill Park Publishing is a member and supporter of Buy Idaho, Inc. Elaine Ambrose Romano, author of the award-winning childrenÂ’s book, Gators & Taters: A Week of Bedtime Stories, wrote the text. Emily Brooke Nielsen, a 1996 graduate of Bishop Kelly High School in Boise, wrote the translation. The editors and illustrator are from the University of Idaho and McCall.

Idaho First Lady Patricia Kempthorne reviewed the book and endorsed it for inclusion in the Governor’s Roundtable for Families and Children in March in Boise. “The Magic Potato - La Papa Mágica can be incorporated into the various celebrations around the State for the Day of the Child - El Día de los Niños celebration on April 30,” said Ms. Kempthorne.

The debut of the new childrenÂ’s book will be Friday, March 5, at Pioneer Elementary School, 13225 W. McMillan Road in Boise, at 1:00 p. m. The author will read as part of the schoolÂ’s annual literacy program.
