Young WritersÂ’ Festival and Competition 2005 Officially Opens

Message from The Director of the National Literacy Trust in London! Neil McClelland, OBE, encourages all aspiring Young Writers to get writing in East Grinstead and the surrounding areas!

The newly launched Wealden House Young Writers' Festival and Competition celebrated a party for the advisory board, judges and teachers from local schools last night. The Director of the National Literacy Trust, Mr. Neil McClelland OBE, one of the advisors of the competition sent this special message to Wealden House ‘”The National Literacy Trust welcomes new and effective ways to link creativity and enjoyment in the development of literacy skills. I am therefore delighted to be able to congratulate all those at Wealden House who had the vision and drive to initiate this promotion and celebration of the importance and sheer fun of creative writing. I hope that all the children and young people who take part will not only enjoy crafting their contributions but will be enthused to go on and do much more writing for pleasure.”

Mr John Abbott, President of the 21st Century Learning Initiative that researches learning skills, spoke at the party about the importance of storytelling throughout manÂ’s history as a way of passing on education and experience and applauded the interest of the schools and local shops in promoting Young Writers to write!

Wealden House, The Centre for Wellness Culture and Arts has attracted many popular bestselling authors to partake in this Festival and Competition including Elizabeth Bailey, June Tate, Steve Alton, Kate Lee, Suzie Lewis-Barned and Elizabeth Arnold.

Cressida Elias, Co-ordinator of the Festival and Competition said ‘we are very pleased that so many of the schools in West and East Sussex are keen to be part of the competition and have agreed to their pupils to write take part.’
