Advanced Certificate Scholarship For Westchester Teachers
Beginning in May 2006 the Westchester Graduate Campus of Long Island University located in Purchase, N. Y. will offer its newest scholarship. The Westchester Teachers’ Advanced Certification Scholarship, will be available to full-time, certified classroom teachers from Westchester County public school districts who hold a master’s degree and wish to acquire a new area of certification. Westchester teachers, recommended for this scholarship by their building principal or district superintendent, are eligible for a 25 percent tuition reduction for every credit earned toward an advanced certificate at the Westchester Graduate Campus.

The Westchester Graduate Campus of Long Island University puts its money where its heart is -- and its heart is dedicated to improving the quality of education in Westchester. Beginning in May 2006 this University’s newest scholarship, the Westchester Teachers’ Advanced Certification Scholarship, is available to full-time, certified classroom teachers from Westchester County public school districts who hold a master’s degree and wish to acquire a new area of certification.
The Westchester Graduate Campus, located in Purchase, N. Y., has a long and impressive history of responding to the needs of local school districts through workshops, grant opportunities and cutting-edge graduate programs. With this scholarship incentive, the University seeks to broaden a pathway for teachers to become skilled in new areas such as literacy, special education, or TESOL and, by training significant numbers of teachers from high-need districts in the region, they hope to have a major impact on education for students in Westchester County.
Westchester teachers, recommended for this scholarship by their building principal or district superintendent, are eligible for a 25 percent tuition reduction for every credit earned toward an advanced certificate at the Westchester Graduate Campus. Teachers must enroll in a certificate program between now and August 2007 and complete it before August 2009.
The University offers many other scholarships to Westchester County residents. Last year alone, the Westchester Graduate Campus awarded approximately one-half million dollars in scholarship money. Their Purchase Community Scholarship provides a twenty-five percent reduction in tuition for graduates of colleges located in Purchase N. Y. who meet the University’s admissions criteria. In addition to offering merit-based academic scholarships worth up to $4,480 each, a 25 percent tuition reduction scholarship is offered to Westchester County and the City of Yonkers employees.
The Westchester Graduate Campus offers graduate degree programs in teacher education, school counseling, school psychology and business administration. Most classes are offered in the late afternoons, in the evenings and on weekends to meet the scheduling needs of working adults.
