Take Heart Kicks Off an Indian Summer with its ‘Rural meets Raj’ Themed Annual Fundraising Ball on June 26th 2006

The UK's only entirely student run international charitable organisations hosts their annual fundraising ball at the Kensington Roof Gardens on 26th June 2006.

(PRWEB) June 25, 2006

On 26th June, the UK’s only entirely student run international charitable organization – Take Heart India will host its annual summer ball at London’s Kensington Roof Gardens. Last year’s event was held at London’s top nightclub Movida and was covered by Tatler and attracted among others, pop star Tyler James, the Krug family, members of the England polo team and son of the PM Nick Blair. This year’s ball will be bigger and better, with headline acts including Robbie Craig (The Artful Dodger) and a celebrity hosted auction.

There are live music performances spanning a rich diversity of musical styles, from soul with Robbie Craig to jazz from the Anna Higgs Jazz Quintet, to salsa with hot Spanish act Solenca. Bollywood Grooves are performing a ‘dance off’ adding to the exotic feel of the evening.

Take Heart India has taken music to the heart of its organization and is working with the groundbreaking fair trade music label Worldwide Aid Recordings (W. A.R). In 2007 W. A.R will be traveling to India to record the orchestra at Anandwan, the world’s largest leprosarium and center for those with disabilities. Further details of the Take Heart India and W. A.R partnership will be announced during the ball and at a press conference scheduled for July 2006.

Take Heart India

With thirty-five student committee members strategically placed at universities across the country Take Heart may well be the UK's only entirely student run international charitable organisation. Take Heart stands out as rather unique amongst the other 188,452 charities registered at the UK charity commission. We are also a small grassroots organisation with no employees. All those volunteering do so without pay, which means that 100% of the proceeds go directly to those in most need.

Founded by Count Arthur Tarnowski in 1962 Take Heart is a visionary charity that has provided aid and rehabilitation to the physically handicapped people of rural India. After meeting the legendary Baba Amte, Count Tarnowski set-up Take Heart in partnership with Anandwan and the World recognised Maharogi Sewa Samiti (mss. niya. org); the institution founded by Baba Amte. His Holiness the Dalai Lama is a close supporter. Since then Take Heart has run in close partnership with the MSS. All proceeds from Take Heart have been passed on to certain projects within the MSS institution. Take Heart has established a working future for thousands of people.

Since 2003 Count Tarnowski's sons, Lucian (22) and Sebastian (24) have taken over the running of Take Heart and established it through the student university population.

Lucian explains ‘although we are a 'charity' we firmly believe 'charity destroys, work builds.' Take Heart aims to help people regain their sense of dignity and self-worth in life. This is achieved through practical job training and education. The wage generated by their skills in handicrafts result in the people no longer having to resort to begging. One cannot begin to describe this as charity; ‘justice in action’ would be far more appropriate.’

The focus of current Take Heart projects has been emphasised on practical education and environmental issues. Many students currently feel that above all these two issues are the most pressing in our global society to date. There is an emphasis on computer training as well as education about current environmental issues. The students of today will certainly have to provide answers tomorrow. It is vital that the younger generation of both the UK and India hear, learn and react to many of the current global issues. Take Heart presents a new way of giving, a new approach to charity that can enable both the student volunteers and the less fortunate in rural India. Take Heart is more than just 'students helping students'.
