CCEW applauds the release of the document, Dignitas Personae, newly issued by the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. CCEW recognizes that not all advances in biotechnology support human dignity and flourishing. We welcome the Vatican's affirmation that all human life, including the smallest and weakest among us, has inherent dignity.

Jennifer Lahl M. A., National Director of the Center for Bioethics and Culture (www. cbc-network. org) and founding member of CCEW said, "While I am not Catholic, I appreciate the enormous value in this document that is not only based on the faith tradition of Catholicism, but is also founded in reason available to all. Dignitas Personae, along with documents such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, reinforces our belief that all human life deserves respect."

Chair of the CCEW Task Force for Marriage, Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, also President of the Ruth Institute said, "The Catholic Church objects to artificial reproductive technology because it disrupts the organic connection between sex, love and procreation. Our modern world tries to reduce us literally to atoms. Men and women are not connected to each other; children are not connected to their parents; our bodies are disconnected from our souls and our actions. In Dignitas Personae, the Vatican offers a truly comprehensive alternative view of the human person, of human sexuality and how marriage integrates them."

Dana Cody Esq., General Counsel for CCEW and Executive Director of Life Legal Defense Foundation said, "Our Founding Fathers' creed was that all human life has inherent dignity, as first expressed in the Declaration of Independence and then the Constitution. Perhaps the universal appeal of Dignitas Personae will become a catalyst to restore inherent dignity for all in our country."
