Tampa, FL (PRWEB) June 10, 2010 —
The Children's Cancer Center (www. ChildrensCancerCenter. org) has announced that it is seeking applicants for its 2010-11 Scholarship Program. June 30 is the deadline for submitting an application.
The Center sponsors the advanced education scholarships with the support of the Ackerman family in memory of Jason Ackerman, a University of South Florida student who was a volunteer at the center prior to his death. The program is also made possible by contributions and grants from the community.
The Children's Cancer Center is located at 4901 West Cypress Street in Tampa and serves the Greater Tampa Bay area, particularly those children being treated at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg and St. Joseph’s Hospital Tampa.
“Diagnosed Children and their families endure many challenges,” said Patricia O'Leary, Chief Operating Officer of The Children’s Cancer Center. “Scholarships help with the financial burden many of these young adults and their families are faced with”
The newly appointed COO brings more than 20 years experience working with children and their families in academic crisis. After earning her degree in education, she spent the last decade as the Executive Director and franchise owner of Huntington Learning Center, a supplemental education program. She has directed schools in New York, Seattle, Orlando and Tampa.
With her experience as a parent, a career in education, business background and understanding of matters involving children and families, O’Leary has brought a new vision and direction to the center. She said that one of her key goals is to make the scholarship program a top priority.
