After recognizing the shortfalls of mandated private security training based on classroom hours, law enforcement agencies conducted a Job Task Analysis (JTA) of law enforcement functions in the early 1990's. Based on the results of this JTA, a list of performance objectives was published, and law enforcement training was modified and realigned to teach to those performance objectives. Private security followed this lead with a series of JTAs starting in 2001, and publication of performance objectives unique to private security.
Automation Precision Technology, LLC has offered online courses since 2004 and was the first to offer on-line security training mandated by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services. Recognizing that many performance objectives, indeed, many training courses could be mastered by students without the need of attending a formal classroom session, Automation Precision Technology has taken this concept of skill mastery to the next level with on-line training.
