Kennywood kicks off the 2008 summer season on Saturday, May 3. The front gates open at 10:30 AM and the rides, including the all-new Ghostwood Estate (http://www. kennywood. com/attractions/whatsnew. php), begin at 11:00 AM. (Closing time is based on weather and crowd size.)

Kennywood is 110 years old this year. Amazing. But what makes it even mroe amazing, is that in recent weeks two of the most highly regarded enthusiast groups, NAPHA (National Amusement Park Historical Association) (http://www. kennywood. com/docs/2008NAPHARelease. pdf) and DAFE (Darkrides And Funhouse Enthusiasts) (http://www. kennywood. com/docs/2008DAFERelease. pdf) have released the results of their member surveys and both groups find Kennywood their favorite amusement park! Wow! Those without a personal Kennywood experience may wonder, “Why?”

Kennywood General Manager Jerome Gibas believes the 110 year-old park remains such a favorite because, “Kennywood is committed to providing the very best experience possible. We painstakingly maintain some of the best classic rides anywhere. We also add the best of cutting edge amusement technology in new rides.” Kennywood’s brand new ride, the heavily themed Ghostwood Estate, incorporates both the classic fun of a dark ride, while using the newest in technology to make it an outstanding interactive encounter.

Guests visiting on opening day and beyond will also find new food items, including the U-Do-It Slush Factory where guests can be as creative as they like making their own Slushy. Secret Agents “in-training” can test their skills at BreakOut, an interactive laser experience. Younger visitors will enjoy the new game venue in Kiddieland.

Live entertainment abounds in 2008. Featured performances include the Scheer Lumberjack Show, located by the Kennywood Lagoon, and master entertainer Jason Pipatone at the Kennyville stage.

Kennywood’s FunDay price is $32, Seniors (55 +) $15, children 46” and under $19. After 5 PM NightRider tickets are $17, Senior NightRider tickets $9. (Sandcastle and Idlewild season pass holders may purchase NightRider tickets for only $8!)

Following Opening Day, May 3, Kennywood is closed until next weekend. The park is open Friday, Saturday, & Sunday, May 9, 10, & 11. Daily season begins Wednesday, May 14. Gates open at 10:30 AM; rides begin at 11:00 AM.
