Hull Barrett’s Thomas L. Cathey & Chris Driver sworn into the South Carolina Bar

Augusta, GA (Vocus) October 4, 2010

Hull Barrett, PC is pleased to announce that Thomas L. Cathey and Chris Driver have been sworn into the South Carolina bar. The South Carolina Bar began in 1884 as an organization of approximately 200 lawyers. Today the Bar serves more than 13,000 members through a variety of programs and services designed to advance justice, professionalism and understanding of the law.

Hull Barrett, PC now has 13 attorneys who are licensed to practice in both Georgia and South Carolina. “Real estate and labor and employment matters are important issues to businesses in South Carolina and Georgia,” said Rand Hanna, senior member at Hull Barrett. “Having more attorneys who can provide representation in both states in these and other related matters helps our firm better serve the CSRA area and outlying areas in both states.”

Tom graduated cum laude from the University of North Carolina at Chappell Hill School of Law in 2000. Senior member of Hull Barrett’s labor and employment practice group, Tom is licensed to practice in Georgia, North Carolina and now South Carolina. His practice focuses in the area of general civil litigation with extensive experience in employment litigation, governmental liability and public employment litigation and worker’s compensation law. Using his vast knowledge of state and federal employment laws and keeping up to date on current employment trends, Tom is equipped to counsel a number of public and private entities in employment and personnel matters, including employee discipline and termination issues. From his first hand experience and to better serve clients, Tom has drafted employment policies and handbooks that meet the business needs of the employer and comply with state and federal regulations. He also assist employers during investigations by the EEOC or Department of Labor and helps employers navigate personnel matters with attention to the intersection of worker’s compensation laws, the American with Disabilities Act and the Family Medical Leave Act.

Chris graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2002. Since joining Hull Barrett, he has practiced in the areas of construction and real estate law, both transactional and litigation, with a focus on the use and enjoyment of real estate, including land use, zoning, eminent domain, and property rights. He also practices local government law and has been Columbia County’s primary counsel for its right-of-way acquisitions and eminent domain litigation. Chris is instrumental in working with both large national employers and small local businesses for their transactional needs and provides counsel to help prevent litigation. He is a member of the institute of city and county attorneys and currently serves on the board of the Kiwanis Club of Augusta.
